WiFi strength, range, and throughput - LG Stylo 2 Real Life Review

Rate this thread to express how you think the LG Stylo 2's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?

Slowness
So, I've noticed that for some reason, my YouTube app runs very slow when connected to my home WiFi. My girlfriend has a Galaxy S9 and she can watch 1080p videos while I can barely stream a 480p video My home WiFi is 50 Mbps so I should have no problem streaming these videos! I have noticed that if I turn my phone off for a few minutes or restart it I can stream 720p for a few minutes, then it starts struggling. I've uninstalled some unneeded apps, cleaned the temp files but nothing works. I can stream 4k videos on my PC so I should have no problem streaming a 720p video. Any help would be appreciated!

I am having the same problems with this metro version.
I am sitting next to my ATT U-VERSE ROUTER and The phone is only receiving half the signal it should.
Right now trying to fix or more simply put, find out why the radio signal is so low without rooting the phone.
Last night I learned a lot about thw phone by reverse engineering the apps to discover what dialer codes are actually inside.
OH BOY DID I SCORE!
There are a lot of codes in this phone and I will be compiling a list soon.
If you cant wait to mess with the inner Workings of your phone use the app mixplorer, add on metadata, and whatever extras you can. If you cant find the free versions I have them stored in google drive and can provide links.

Is wifi issue resolved? I am having same issue.

Upload video

How do I upload video to internet/SoMe?
You cannot directly upload a video from the phone as far as I have known and tried...
However, the videos are very easily synced with your computer of choice using Zune, and you can upload them to any video sharing service without alterations.
Not able to upload a video, without a PC! Incredible.
I really hope they add that soon.
Sent from my Samsung Focus using Board Express
I really don't think there is any option to do that. Not even in email.
But, don't forget, wp7 records 720p video, so, size of that video will be huge.
With iPhone, you can send video with e-mail (I think) and upload to YouTube.
I spent a good 2 hours yesterday searching trying to find someway to upload video from my phone to facebook. Every app i tried just did pictures. I eventually just did a sync w/ Zune and then uploaded it that way. Only then i became aware that the 3 minute video was 150mb. That would have taken forever on my phone. That is probably why that havent included that in some default setting. With the new data caps and everything, it would be very dangerous to allow video uploading of this size.

On my other OS phone it warns me that I should use Wi-Fi instead of data connection to upload large vidoes to youtubes, but it's not even an option on wp7

iPhone has uncapped upload speed on AT&T (1 to 2 mbps upload speed). All other phones on AT&T are capped at 300kbps upload speeds.
Anyway, upload a few hundred megabytes of video through phone data connection is really a waste of data bandwidth, battery and your time.
not to mention that if you're on the move you can easily go into a dark spot and the video upload would die, meaning you wasted all that bandwidth for a video that didn't even upload fully.
^What phone does that? They pause, then resume when network connection is established again.

droid does.... sorry couldn't resist. there is an application called "andftp" that can resume an upload if needed. i've had youtube videos resume uploading (i have no idea how) after dropping out of wifi range. walking around the house while uploading a 1.4Gb video and forgetting it's uploading isn't really helpful.
as far as uploading (anywhere, any type of transfer) a video, it seems trivial. sure 720p is large in files, but it should be up to the user to decide how to use their bandwidth.
one of the users mentioned iphones being 'uncapped' and uploading at 1Mb/s. that's incredible, as i've -never- seen any actual uploads or speedtests that showed that kind of UP speed. sure, it may be a 1Mb connection, but upload is usually 100-200K in my experience.
for the majority of my pictures and videos, i use wifi ftp. there are proximity apps that will turn on wifi/bluetooth and sync (rsync) directories to home computers, and they absolutely ROCK. now, where is my automagical air-charging station that feeds microwaves through the house to charge the phone.
It should be my choice if I would like to upload a video or not.

It is reported by speedtest app on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. It is not the theoritcal connection speed but real world upload test. And also, many AT&T Captivate owners can reach the similar upload speed when using non-AT&T modem firmware (it seems AT&T intentionally disabled HSUPA in the firmware). And AT&T openly admited that fact.
You won't see that speed on anything else, certainly not WP7 phones AT&T released.

That WP7 is probably a wrong phone for you. Most of the features in WP7 are not user selectable.

My guess is that video uploading will come to WP7, but that it is not near the top of Microsoft's to-do list simply because it doesn't provide that much benefit, due, as others have said, to the often huge file sizes.
It's not often one gets that desperate to upload a video that one can't wait until one gets to one's PC. Photos, different ballgame.
I'd love to have it, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
I think I've sent or uploaded a total of 2 or 3 videos from my previous phones. Resolution was small, and it still took forever. That was with EDGE though.
I really would like to see Skydrive store video. But if it doesn't come until the end of the year, I don't think I'll really notice.
With HSUPA disabled on these phones, upload speed on 3G (200 to 300kbps) is not much faster than EDGE.
I can't even send video with MMS.

Unusual High Data Usage Reported

Hi,
I am currently using Samsung Focus Flash on AT&T network. It shows I have used 45 mbs in just over 3 days and most of them like yesterdays nights 12:48AM 21mbs are at odd times when I am at home and on wifi. I previously used Blackberry Bold 9000 and never exceeded 100mbs of usage per month. Before that I had iPhone and it too stood around 120-140mbs per month.
I mainly use it for mails and hardly any multimedia. One thing I suspect is when downloading podcasts its not considering Wifi, as other then that I can not think of any other reason as I do not use it for any video streaming like intensive activities.
I came across few threads but all from early 2011 like on engadget etc. Few suggested it has something to with Yahoo mail. I have one yahoo mail account.
To debug this for now I have turned off cellular data as will be home over the weekend. Please suggest.
Thanks

If you don't have it plugged in, you aren't on WIFI. WIFI turns off when the screen goes off unless the phone is plugged in to power.
Please ignore will monitor and update if still an issue
how are you able to tell when the data is being used?
I did notice that this month, my past bill was pretty high on usage. I usually don't ever use more than ~200 mb...this bill, i hit over a gig...don't know how
I can check minutes and data used from AT&T website as well as their mobile apps.
Thanks
It might be AT$T cheating u on ur data. I have Tmo and I don't notice any leaked data usage.
Thanks, I have done complete reset of phone and started with minimal settings to narrow down to leak if possible. Does any one of you download podcast directly to phone ? As that is only thing which would have bandwidth, but when downloading I was always connected to Wifi so should not have been charged to Cellular data.
Yea there is a setting that will make it only download podcasts over WiFi.

I download a lot of podcasts to my phone, using several different Apps including "Bringcast", "Podcasts Pro", and "Podceiver". As someone else pointed out, if your phone is not plugged into usb or wall charger and receiving a charge, as soon as your screen turns off, the download will revert to cellular data and stop using your Wifi.

I think i know what was my jump in data...that damn game Fragger. I remember the install was 85 MB's and it wasn't coming down correctly. I kept having to retry the download and it was telling me to get on wifi,,which I was. I bet those hiccups caused the jump for me last month
After rest usage went down but still between 12-1 in morning I see few mbs used. I have connected phone to fiddler2 to monitor the network usage, and shut down cellular data. Will update my findings if anything serious.

looking for a good media players that downloads & caches while connected wireless

Hey everyone - I'm tied to the crappy 2GB data limit with AT&T. While at the gym I like to be distracted and watch movies, and listen to music while walking/running around. However, especially with video, I am always capping out my data limit way early.
I'm looking for good apps that can download video and/or audio and cache while connected wireless, so I can go my merry way and not use cell data. I ran across Slacker Radio for audio - does anyone have opinions about that one, or recommendations on others?
I'm not too hopeful on finding a video player that does this, but I'm ever hopeful. Right now I've just been bittorrent-ing them to my home computer, transferring them to my S3, and that gets around using cell data.
With the AT&T 2GB limit, I can stream only about 2-3 movies before that data is gone - ouch!
Thanks for any thoughts/opinions/whatnot!
Uh, wow, my answer may have just been given! Just ran across this. Guess I may be moving back to T-Mobile, after about an 8 year hiatus.

YouTube Says T-Mobile Is Throttling Its Video Traffic

T-Mobile is beginning to circumvent the net-neutrality rules. YouTube found evidence that the videos were being throttled, whether the customers have the "Bing ON" feature turned on or not.

The buffering has nothing to do with the phone itself.
This should stop the buffering.
Log in to My T-Mobile.
Click the menu icon in the upper right.
Click Profile.
Next to Binge On, select if you want it to be ON or OFF.
Turn it OFF - It can take up to 24 hours after disabling it to become effectively disabled.
Good luck,
Have a very Merry Christmas Holiday.

Yes, I turned it off already to no avail.
If you have read the Wall Street article before making the post, you would have learned that T-Mobile is throttling YouTube whether Bing is turned on or off.

Sorry I didn't read the Wall Street Journal.
But to be honest with you, I watch a a lot of YouTtube and I don't see or notice any buffering.
YouTube streams video just as good and fast as when I watch a movie or TV show on Netflix.
Good luck,
Have a very Merry Christmas Holiday.

Seriously old info there. It's a feature you can turn off and THEY tell you about it.
If you want to watch YouTube and NOT want it to use your data, leave it on. If you need it to be a higher hd (ie 1080p) turn it off but will use your data.
Honestly, do you need anything higher than 480p on your phone?
Furthermore, I get all the EFF and FFTF newsletters and also have my Guy Fawkes mask at the ready but sometimes (especially FFTF) they don't read all the info start screaming fire when someone says fire extinguisher.

Problems with Whatsapp calling and casting to chromecast

Hi
I've had my Redmi Note 8 for almost a month now, and I'm generally very happy with it.
However, when I tried making a few whatsapp calls over the last few days they were a total disaster. I experienced one way sound, and the app repeatedly said "trying to reconnect you". In the end I just had to give up.
I tried it again this afternoon using mobile data and that worked considerably better.
Another thing I had trouble with was casting video to chromecast. I have a video file stored locally on my phone but when I tried casting to the TV in the living room, which is where the wifi modem is, it buffers and freezes every few minutes.
I have fibre internet, which the laptop tests as 65mbps, so I can rule that out, and I'm not trying to do anything that my previous phones were unable to do, and they were far lower specced than this one.
Speedtest from phone attached, and is somewhat slower than my laptop.
Has anyone else had problems streaming or whatsapp calling?
I spoke to Xiaomi support this afternoon, and they advised me to do a factory reset, but that seems a bit OTT for a 3 week old phone.
Are there any fixes for this?
