Overall happy with V30 - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

Coming from the S8+ and I could not be happier. The camera just amazes me. I forced myself this weekend to use the modes. What a great phone.
Thoughts?

Yep, best phone out right now. It'll probably be the best phone of 2017. LG hit a home run with this one.

I agree. It's only missing two things in my opinion.
- LED indicator
- Better front camera
I also didn't realize the benefit of having the headphone jack on the bottom until this phone.

Yeah I also prefer the headphone jack to be on the bottom.

Wow I feel like verge doesn't make sense anymore, "screen is bad" is just too much, you might have received a unit with issue but you can't call the v30 franchise bad

Yeah this makes no sense. I'm not married to this phone and want the best I can have. I honestly love this phone. I've considered sending back to get the XL 2 and that's merely for software updates. Not worth the lack in hardware, imo.

I ignore anything from the Verge. They are just stupid.

I thought it was weird as well. I think I read that they were testing a Korean version for whatever reason. I'm guessing it's all that they were able to get a hold of while they tested, but it seems a bit unfair of them to not wait for a US carrier model like every other reputable publication.

All it takes to prove this right is a quick read of their opinion regarding the V30 audio/headphone jack. I know of basically a whole forum of people who would kill for a phone that has awesome audio and headphone jack. Problem is that the manufacturers can't seem to build a phone with that and everything else.

I was a "never again" LG guy ...
So far, so good. Very happy with the V30.
In fact, for the most part, I actually like their skin over the stock Android from my Nexus. Few tweaks would really make it more useful, but no issue.

My last LG was a G5 I returned it after 2 days due to the build issues. How is the V30? Really interested in the camera and audio output

Camera is great, but not the best and audio output through the headphone jack is the best. I say the camera is not the best overall, but for me it kind of is because I would rather have the wide angle instead lens of 2x zoom.

Picked up my V30 from T-Mobile last night. My immediate impressions, coming from an S8 and previously a Pixel XL are that this phone is great but does have some immediate flaws.
Some initial thoughts:
- The finger print scanner is blazing fast. On par with my old OnePlus 3 and my Pixel XL. In comparison, the Samsung S8 fingerprint scanner is slow, often unresponsive, and in a horrible position.
- I work from my home office full time and I spend A LOT of time on client calls. I often have headphones plugged into my phone for these calls. I just got off of a conference call and could immediately tell that the audio output through even pretty basic in-ear headphones is significantly better than my S8 was. Voice clarity is much improved and people sound more like they are in the room with you, rather than on a conference call. This is HUGE for me. And I imagine that music quality will see this same improvement through the headphones.
- I was happy to see that there was SIGNIFICANTLY less bloatware to uninstall/disable on this phone than their was on my Samsung S8.
- The overall UI is extremely fluid and fast. The speed of opening quick settings and the notification drop down, navigating through settings, and swapping between apps is on par with my Pixel XL, which is a breath of fresh air coming from the S8. However, there is still some lag to be had within apps, but I'll discuss that below.
- The camera is excellent. I'm not seeing any blurry photos, as others have apparently seen.
The negatives...
- The stock LG dialer and messages apps are hilariously ugly. I was able to get a new theme installed, which cleaned those up a bit but it still doesn't compare to the stock Google dialer/messages apps. Future "Pixel" style themes for the V30 will likely fix this, though.
- I have seen noticeable and consistent scroll lag in some apps like Chrome, Instagram, Facebook, and even in LG's own themes app. I've changed animation scaling to .5x and enabled GPU rendering in developer settings but I haven't seen an improvement. I've only had my phone for about 12 hours at this point so I'm going to give it more time to adapt. However, if this doesn't improve and/or starts effecting more apps over time, it might actually be a deal breaker for me.
- I compared the Pixel 2 XL to the V30, side by side, in my local Verizon store. The front facing speakers on the 2 XL put the single bottom facing speaker on the V30 to complete shame. The downside is that those front facing speakers come with larger bezels, though. Unfortunately, in my short time using the V30, I've already found myself accidentally covering the bottom speaker more than once.
I still have my Pixel 2 XL on order and at the moment, I don't intend to cancel it. If I find that the lag I'm seeing in some apps does not improve over time, I'll probably return the V30 and hold out for my 2 XL. I don't want to give up wireless charging or the headphone jack. But I will if I have to, in order to get a 100% lag free phone. Especially at this $800+ price point.

I'm starting to experience lag and stuttering also. This goes away with a reboot, but I don't really want to be forced to reboot several times a day. I've tried LG's cleaner app and that doesn't help. I've tried enabling the force GPU rendering, and that doesn't help for me either. I'm hoping that future updates help out. This phone is the perfect size and feels so nice in the hand. I really don't want a different phone, so I'm going to wait and see if it gets better.

@sn0warmy...you can find the stock Google dialer on APK mirror, I posted a link in a thread about the dialer. And you can download the Google Messages app from Google play.

He's saying that compared to the Samsung S8/S8+/Note 8 screens, the LG V30 screen doesn't look as good. I do concur with this. I wouldn't go back to the S8 because I much prefer the overall feel and UI of the V30. However, compared to the screen on my S8, the V30's screen looks noticeably washed out. My current long term decision is between the V30 or the Pixel 2 XL, which essentially share the same screen. So this is not much of a consideration for me. However, I could actually see this being a deal breaker for some.

That's right. Forgot about that. I'll try installing those. I'm just afraid I won't be able to truly replace the stock LG dialer/messages app system wide. But hopefully I'm wrong.

They do replace the stock LG apps. You just have to make sure and set them as your default dialer and message apps

Yeah, it's quite disheartening. I honestly think that if they went with 6GB of RAM, the lag/stuttering would be a non-issue. The lack of 6GB of RAM in these 2017 flagships, including the Pixel 2 XL, really has me scratching my head.
I believe this is the sole reason why the Note 8 (with 6GB RAM) crushes the V30 in Phonebuff's head to head speed tests. For instance, the V30 beats the S8+ (with 4GB RAM) in the same speed test.
If OnePlus can easily do it, LG and Google should be able to, as well.

My G6 has weird, terrible lag sometimes too. A reboot does fix it, but waiting a while sometimes makes it go away too. I know this is a V30 forum, but sad to see this issue persists across these 2 devices. Its not a deal breaker for me, but sure is something that I experience way too often on a 2017 smartphone.

should I swap my m9 with G4 or keep it?

So I am trying to get all the information I need before jumping from M9 to G4, I generally never change a phone before a year cycle, but the M9 poor camera in low light, very warm temps in summer days, and more specially the small screen (for my astigmatic eyes) are pushing me toward a bigger screen and some goodies lie better camera, so the G4 is here for that.
But in another way I red so many reports about touchscreen issues, and lately people are saying it could be hardware fault, and the volume of the earphone is not impressive, that I don't now anymore!
Today a dude was ready to swap his only 1 week old G4 with my M9 for only 40$ and because I hesitated he sold it to someone else, now if I want to swap it it will be with a new unit and I will have to pay about 100$
I don't see other phones incoming that could suit me, note 5 will be very expensive and no sdcard, motorola phones are not sold in my country and Nexus 5 2015 will not have sd card too.
So is it worth it to swap my M9 to G4(and pay 100$)?
I plan to install Xpirt Sense 7 ports, I prefer Sense launcher.
Still have a last question: is the BT autoconnecting? I mean my M9 autoconnect to my car's BT everytime I start the Car app, it was not the case with the S6, I tried numerous car apps with autoconnect option but the S6 BT didn't want to autoconnect, I hope the G4 is like M9
I'd wait for the new nexus honestly, but I swapped from the m9 to the g4 and could not be happier, other than the terrible music quality this phone has been better all around. Also the sense launcher can be installed on any phone, there's an xda thread about a port for all phones somewhere.

Terrible music quality or volume?
Of course coming from the number 1 as smartphone audio I have found a lack of volume and warmth on the G4, but I think it's fixable using apps like V4A, no?
I came from the m8 to the g4 so not quite the same comparison.
Please bare in mind that there is mention of the latest firmware update in the g4 general thread with people suggesting it fixes the touch screen issues.
I'm not sure about BT but I don't think it does auto connect from my limited BT use.
Overall I would say this is a great phone, but I would also add that I found that ease of install and quantity of roms was much better with the m8.. This may come with time but hinges on getting the bootloader unlocked...
My Bluetooth auto connects when I get in my car everyday.
I've been using Dolby and its improved it a lot. However sound is still disappointing, at some point I'll try viper but I'm lazy and haven't flashed it yet.

Will you be getting the H815 variant ? check out the G4 videos in this channel
You can also talk to your fellow country man, XDA staff, riro
in general somebody complaining about lag.
- was a nexus user ? ignore
- was a htc or xperia user on a tricked out rom ? ignore
- some random wierd **** ? G4 locked to a carrier ? which carrier ? ignore because they get updates much later.
- is a unlocked or intl. variant...listen then decide if you can live with it.
problems have been addressed with updates, this is the same old with every device when it comes out, some stink is created and then it gets (mostly) fixed but the comments and videos remain on the internet for ever (!) course these people move on to other devices but always repeat their outdated experiences.

If i understood you right....this strikes me as a setting, BT autoconnecting means it keeps searching every few minutes. if you set it to try only once when you switch BT on it will be better for battery.
Since you are swapping why not ask the seller to come over and try with your car.

THe latest update fixes touch issues. The phone will fix your camera, temp and screen issue no doubt. For my personal use I have no issue with the audio but I am not picky. The phone itself is pretty good and from what I see after the update it is near perfect. I for one am still excited to see the moto x and the nexus but the G4 is still pretty great.
Having came from an M8, to an S6, to a G4, I can personally say this phone is superior to all of them for numerous reasons.
1. Screen size/quality (LG > HTC) (LG == S6)
2. Audio is really good in my opinion (LG > S6) (LG == OR < M8/M9)
3.Removeable battery & SD Card, allowing for bigger batteries and extras alongside more storage cheap
4. Generally very fast, maybe not as fast as an M9 without a custom ROM but superior to Sammy devices by miles.
5. Stock experience is one of the best out there, vastly superior to TouchWiz on Sammy devices
6. Variety of custom back covers for the device (e.g leather, metal, plastic, varied colors, probably more from 3rd parties)
7. Camera is phenomenal, HUGE upgrade over M8/M9.
8, 9, 10 & 11 million. More than I can think of right now.
Also in my experience I have no problems with the touchscreen or anything else that was substantial enough to break the phone for me.

I read on many reviews that M9 is faster than G4. Did felt that?
Im in doubt between M9 and G4. Bigger screen isnt a must for me, and I dont play games too much (so, overheat is not exactly a problem). I had a very nice time with M8. On the other hand, swappable battery and the camera lean me toward G4.
Confused.
Honestly I felt like the g4 was faster. My m9 was always heat throttled when I just browsed the web, I've heard they did updates to help so idk how it is now, but the m9 was just so laggy it was awful. But if you are leaning most on camera then the g4 or s6 are amazing.
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
You convinced me to swap then!
I passed again to LG showroom today and tried the BT audio with my Sony sbh50, the volume was the same as on M9 BT, and when I installed Neutron...it was very loud without the muffling I get on the M9 + neutron + increased gain.
So I guess with V4A it will be perfect.
The screen of the G4 is so gorgeous! I could read all the text without problem very clearly while on the M9 the battery percentage is sometime foggy because of my astigmatism (know eyes problem with LCD)
Now I have to find a good deal
I have the same dilemma lol.
I'm wondering, is the G4 slippery with the plastic back? I think the leather back is more slippery because it's badly made.
My M9 is super slippery without a case and I can't stand the throttling or whatever it is. My Galaxy S5 runs faster and games run smoother (I tested both at the same time).
I'd buy the G4 from the carrier (it's cheap in Canada), because I want warranty with that phone, I don't trust its many issues.
Because of the on screen navigation buttons (I don't like them), the M9 is too small for me. But G4 is too big :/.
The overheating issues are very real with the M9 and replacement phones don't help. I had to fight with VZW for like 4 days to get into a new edge plan with the G4. Downside? Battery life is still pretty abysmal, but at least I can grab some extra batteries and switch it out if I need to. I am enjoying the G4 much more than the M9 even after just a week of having it.

I checked CPU temps on my S5 and M9 after playing the same 3d game. The M9's max was at 43C while the S5 was around 62C. Now of course the M9 was warmer because of the metal but the screen was less warm compared to the S5.
The S5 runs hotter but the plastic helps. However, The S810 is terrible, slower than S801 and the Wi-Fi reception on the M9 isn't strong and doesn't work with some routers (it keeps disconnecting and connecting every 5 seconds, really bad). I don't have an issue with S801.
How is the Snapdragon 808 that the G4 has?

My M9 would reach upwards up 120f and at 115 it goes into timeout. Always during GPS usage and very minimal other operations. Even charging was causing issues. The processor in the G4 feels good, but I don't do any crazy gaming or benchmarking. I lasted about 1 day before I got annoyed and rooted it. Got xposed running on it today just fine. As time goes on I'll have a better idea, but in terms of everyday operations, no hiccups with anything. The power and volume keys on the back..I would call...not ideal. It isn't irritating but I would definitely prefer a more standard setup. Just something to note. The power button placement on the M9 sucked though.

I hope you're right! It's a bit cumbersome in the car mount. The thing that exacerbates the issue is the lack of a power off nav button option like the M9 had. I was hoping someone somehow made more nav button options with root but I haven't seen anything yet. I'm using screen off and lock now, but it's not present on all screens.

You can also double tap the screen to wake, and double tap the status bar to sleep. I use greenify, which can be used without root, and have it override Google now, so when I drag up from the nav keys it just puts the screen to sleep

Disappointed by the LG Nexus 5X specs and price ... is the LG G4 still worth buying?

As the title says, I am really disappointed by the N5X price in Europe compared to the specs. Is the LG G4 still worth buying it?
Is the LG overlay acceptable? (This is the only thing which really holds me off buying the G4 at the moment, because I really love stock Android)
Is LG offering some stock Android experience? (like HTC did)
How fast the software updates get released?

This decision is really up to what features you find value in. I love my G4 and you would have to decide if you want a phone that has removable battery and expandable storage to say have fingerprint scanner and the latest OS. These phones are different in a lot of ways.

I picked up the G4 the day it came out,so I've had a good few months with it. Definitely no regrets. Coming from Samsung, it's a much less intrusive version of Android..... Than say... Touchwizz. It could benefit from extra features for battery saving mode like on the Sony or SAMSUNG, but it easily lasts me a day.
One of the best cameras, used it on my recent trip Italy, if you are into photography... You can have a lot of fun.
With every phone you will find +/-, but sure you can probably get a good deal on aG4, making it a real phone to consider.

I can answer one of those questions: the overlay is acceptable, because 99.5% of the time I don't see it because I use the camera/browser/gallery/app of choice, instead of playing with the settings. That might be different in your case, but since you asked I thought I'd answer.
Hell! I'd recommend the G4 over their 6P! For that European price, I'd 100% recommend the G4 over it!!! No doubt about it! You can get the G4 for 420 euros! The 6P will be 650 and I still think the G4 will compare just as well Or even better in the camera department and battery life. Nexus' aren't known for battery life. Neither is the LG, but hey! ...

no where as fast as you would get on nexus. they come in time though.
I'm also looking at ordering the G4 after the disappointment of the 5X, but it looks like LG will always gimp Nexus devices so it won't compete with their own flagship.
LG seems to be the only manufacturer left that give all the choices for users, even Samsung is going Apple direction.
I find LG interface to be much more bearable than Samsung which to me personally is unusable. This is helped by the fact of on-screen buttons. But I'm just waiting for CyanogenMod availability.

Then you are not a typical nexus user. You are interested in nexus only because updates are regular and this keeps the value of your device up.
You really prefer to have the extra 'features' every non nexus device offers.
So is this the same as the OP or not.

86 in photo and 79 in video for both but one has 84 points and G4 83 points, anyways DxoMark just sucks, a french reviewer... never in low light
I'm disappointed in the 5x because of the faux look of dual front speakers when in reality one is just an earpiece speaker, nothing more and lack of qi charging, and same outdated storage options. Really don't care about the lack of RAM, not like I can tell a difference going from the G4 to nexus 5, though all of it is hard to justify at $380 when you pay $20 more and get 3gb of ram, a 5.7 inch 2k screen, and an SD slot by choosing a moto x pure edition. 5x specs would be fine with nexus 4 pricing tiers
To answer your question if you're a purist like me, LG UX will drive you bonkers. So much stuff they changed just to be different that doesn't really have a purpose. I like it overall OK but have already decided I'm going back to a nexus or a moto next year. Also the memory leak is in full effect on it as LG has written 5.1.1 off as "too minor to even bother with" which means it won't get fixed until you get marshmallow which probably won't be until 2016

That was quick but the most interesting scores are the N6P is top for texture in stills beating the S6 & G4 and beating both again for Noise by 4 points.
I think the comparisons of N6P against S6/G4 are going to be interesting, hard as it might be to believe, expect the N6P shots to look slightly better in details than the S6/G4. How to counter that ? reduce to 12MP on both, now noise & details will look sharper and the difference will be hard to tell. Still, this is an achievement for the N6P. The 6S+ did not get there. The Z5 did.
In terms of video stabilisation its a good ten points behind the G4 so jerky video.
12MP and 1/2.3" rear camera.
The big catch is that there is no OIS in either N5X or N6P, pretty shocking considering N5 & N6 had it. Go to the trouble to make a good camera and then leave out OIS. Seriously WTH!!!! So like the Z5 except the Z5 will have more features ootb. You better have good handholds a la xperia or M9 to get clear low light shots with these nexii.
What will the camera interface be like, google camera has always been very limited. 3rd party cams will be essential. And then we will find out just how slow the shutter gets to.
They left out wireless charging on both ! ok, i get it that morotola is crap at wireless charging but LG already nailed it with the 5, two years ago.
Course for those who want sd & removable battery, software is not going to be able to fix
I've just returned my LG G4 to get the Nexus 5x.
I loved the G4's camera but the bloatware, bluetooth issues, buggy smart unlock, constant notifications of "NFC may drain battery" when using my car dock, the big when you put it on charge, the bing when it finishes charging, the bing when you turn it on, the bing when you turn it off.... it stopped being an enjoyable device to use and it was all because of what LG had done to Android.
So I'm going back to stock android. Originally I was going to wait for a G4 AOSP or Cyanogen rom but with the announcement of the fantastic Nexus 5x camera I decided to make the move while I still could..
The feature list is cut down compared to the G4 but it is stuff I am not so concerned with. I've not used expandable storage since moving to use Google music, Photo, Docs, Keep and Drive. I've never used wireless charging, and I don't game on my phones so I am not worried about the 1gb less of ram, especially when my Nexus 4 uses nearly 1GB of ram less than the LG G4 when idling.
I got the G4 after trying almost all other phones out there. I had Z3, HTC One M9, S6, Nexus 6, Iphone 6, and now G4 and the G4 blows them all away.
It is quicker than the others, has no memory or multitasking issues contrary to some minor views in this thread, the bluetooth, 4g and wifi work perfectly, smart lock works fine too, the camera beats all of the other phones I owned, and the battery life is equal to if not better than all at 5 Hours SOT at 60% screen brightness.
The new google launcher is AWFUL so wanting that is just nonesense, and the LG launcher has replaced Nova for me, because it's just as customisable.
Nexus fans won't want it though because they want Stock = Boring, and prefer the boring look to a decent camera and features. Anyone expecting the new Nexus devices to actually have decent real world camera is praying to the wrong gods.
I have no memory leak issues with my Verizon model, and love 95% of this phone.
Coming from a Nexus/Moto X background, I find LG's ui decent and mostly easy to use. There are 2 or 3 little annoyances in how settings are accessed, but Nova Launcher fixes most design issues - an icon pack and new screen layout, plus gestures to shortcut to the settings I use most.
I world consider rooting to clean up the other small issues, but I'm a regular Android Pay user do I'm holding off until that all shakes out.

I bought the g4 blindly to test the non nexus waters and this phone has blown me away especially after the updates and the camera is super amazing and no nexus can or will beat it. Dont get me wrong ill probably grab the new nexus 5 based on stock so i can have fun rooting and putting custom roms on it, but besides having cutting edge software it will be my secondary phone and ill stick with my g4 for everyday use. To be honest im a crack flasher and it feels good to not have that urge with my g4, i got root and thats all i needed to get rid of some things and add xposed to tweak it a bit. Very happy with my g4 and will likely get the g5 when it drops.

Yes. In terms of hardware, it's about even up. And the G4 also offers a miniSD slot, exchangeable battery, and nice back covers. Only possible drawback might be the battery live, probably mostly thanks to the G4's insane resolution.

I don't like the LG icons, but that can be easily changed by using a different launcher like Nova. Also, the colors for toast messages and quick settings are a bit bright (cyan). And the mobile data protocol (LTE, G3, ...) is displayed as own icon instead of small text in the reception bar icon. Most of the rest can easily be ignored or even be disabled in the settings.
But a lot of this (and more) can be modified even without unlocking the bootloader. You can flash rooted ROMs via the cable firmware update screen, and then use FlashFire to flash other ZIP updates like Xposed or themed variants (warning: very slow...).
With the European H815 version, you can also unlock the bootloader, but you'll lose warranty, and it can't be unlocked. But it'll allow you to flash "more AOSP" ROMs. (Official CM12 is work in progress, but there's an inofficial port available.)

Android M at least has been announced for the G4. I guess it's hard to tell even by LG's developers, as it depends on the changes made by Google.
But then, the changes made since Android 4.1 aren't that impressive anyway IMHO, and several recent updates had some teething troubles, so maybe it's not so bad to wait a bit longer...

Turbo 2 Camera Software

I've been going back and forth between the the Turbo 2 and the LG V10 for my next phone and one of the things that I'm torn on is the Camera. Even though the MP count on the Turbo is higher, all the "showdown's" I've seen on the camera seem to show better images coming from the V10. Do you guys think it's the Camera or the software? Have any of you tried any of the 3rd party camera software that helps get better images out of the T2?

I forgot to try (stock was good for me) ProCapture. This app works the best on my old phone (Razr HD). You may also try Camera/Cinema FV-5 and A Better Camera.
I have used most of the third party apps for the turbo 2. I typically end up coming back to the stock camera app for convenience of the double twist action. Unless doing a time lapse photo or photosphere, 90% of photos taken are on the stock app. That's not to say the stock camera has downfalls, LG's photo software is infinitely better in terms of there manual modes and ability to customize the picture settings. I have taken some awesome pictures on the turbo 2, but the camera could have definitely benefitted from manual mode in certain circumstances.

I absolutely hate moto's touch to shoot feature. I want to touch to focus, then push another button to shoot. For this reason I use Google Camera. No complaints at all... All pics have been stellar and my friends all love the pics I get w my camera.
That being said, I really am not a photo guy. If i take a couple pics when I am out, that is a lot for me. Someone who uses the camera more or in more diverse situations might have a different opinion. Coming from the Maxx, though, this camera is lightyears better.
that is one thing that annoyed me when playing with it in store. The inability to pick an area that should be the focus like in the LG software. The native software seems TOO simple and needs a "pro" mode.

The maxx got a bad rap. Sure it wasn't the best, but honestly I don't see a major difference between the two.
Will the Control focus/Exposure ring give you the choice of where you want the camera to focus, etc? I use that feature a lot.

I'm in the same boat. Been burned by Motorola a lot of times. A lot of bad cameras and the software is still not that great. All of the reviews favor V10 camera but the experience is better on T2 since it is stock with perfect amount of customization. Maybe a little less, but it gets the job done.
One has giant battery, one has reviews that tell you that it does in a day, easily. Sometimes less than a day for V10. You have to remember that V10 is 808 vs. 810. 810 may have heating and throttle issues, but it is a superior chip and may process the pics better if you find a good camera app.
In the end, it is a toss up, IMHO. That's why I'm thinking about Note 5 too.
I will say, the discount of trading ANY smartphone in for $200 credit increases the appeal of the T2 considerably. The broken screen Thunderbolt sitting here getting me $200 off is very tempting!

Right now the phone is $100 + they have the "UPGRADE" code for an extra $100 + the $200 Trade-in. I have my Thunderbolt that is 2 phones back that I cracked the screen on but it still fires up, and I have a Galaxy Nexus so I'm probably going to trade those 2 in for one for me and one for my wife. I've got a G2 but I'm keeping it to either sell it or keep as a back-up or video server (My Galaxy nexus right now acts as a link to my slingbox and netflix that I throw to my TV through Chrome so the G2 may move to that position).

If you enable the little focus/exposure ring in the Moto camera software, it allows you to adjust where the camera is focusing on. And since the focus itself is so fast, it's just as good as tap-to-focus.
On another note, can anybody suggest a good 3rd party app with manual mode and/or one that can shoot in raw mode? Those are the only 2 things I'm missing from the Moto camera app. Also, is it possible to set the double twist gesture to another camera app?
Afaik, Moto doesn't support the latest camera API (to get raw). Not sure is it corrected with MM.
Just testing several camera apps, unfortunately ProCapture is not supported anymore, Manual Camera (same dev) requires new API, Focal is not supported... but Open Camera works really well! And doesn't have limitation for 4K video recording. Definitely dev deserve donations

I decided against the dt2 until I realized I could get it for $124 on black Friday. Had it not been for that, I'd still be happily rocking my g3 waiting for next year's phones.
Buddy just got a V10. I have the T2 and almost got a V10. The Shatterproof warranty and now added SD card swept me to the T2. And the "design a new one at any time" feature of the 64GB one. Brand new phone 12 months from now? That's cool as hell.
But I gotta say... the V10 is very nice. The camera is just SICK. Even the front facer is really nice. Very impressive. I'm still happy with my T2... I suppose. No case is really nice.
But I would certainly have been more then happy with that V10 even with the LG Bloat....

I carry a LG G2 now so I'm used to the LG software and I actually disabled and hid almost all of it. If I really want, I can always use load up Nova Launcher or one of the others.
The things that draw me to the DT2 are the same things you're saying. TOUGHT phone with no need for a case and a free "refresh" at any time. The biggest things I like about LG are the camera (and the camera software) and the back buttons and tap features.

The pixel or the v20?

What's your opinion?
Pixel for sure. AI and VR are about to hit big time and that's a big part of what the Pixel is all about.
V20? Are you serious?
Ok it will have better audio-capabilities, but apart from that, it's crap compared to Pixels.
Starting with the awful LG interface.
Tough decision. Quad DAC, removable battery, IR blaster on the V20 versus a better smaller screen on the Pixel (in my opinion) and frankly an old school 2014 design but with pure Android. I am actually conflicted on which way to go since I have the Note 7. Its a valid question that many are trying to figure out (which is why Im here). The screen on the V20 will be the deciding factor for me and I will need to see it in person.. I like things about both phones. I wish there was a device that offered the best of both but not this year.
I preordered the Pixel XL but when reviews are out for one of both and one gets better reviews I stick with that one. V20 might have a better camera but could have short battery life and I don't care about changeable batteries. The Pixel has stock Android which is pretty dull after a while. Don't care about VR or personal assistant. That won't be big until I get my next phone anyway.
The Pixel SUCKS!!!!
Kidding... I don't know for sure, I'm just chiming in.
I'd personally choose the LG V20. I don't care about VR.
I just read what was captured from a Reddit post and the images from the Pixel look great along with the video/stabilization. The guy has cleaned all video and posts, seems like he got in trouble. He claimed he had 4 hours SOT with 53% battery left. I will need to see more reports but seems promising even with the bezels. lol, maybe you guys have already seen all that.
I watched a lot of V20 pre-release reviews on Youtube and got some hands-on time at an ATT store today. It seems like a very nice phone. For $830 (at ATT), I would rather pay the extra $39 and get a 128GB Pixel XL (I have one pre-ordered). I wouldn't take advantage of the fancy DAC on the V20. Removable battery is nice, but I never used that on my older Samsung phones even though I had an extra battery. I use to be a big removable storage fan, but with 128GB of fast memory in the pixel, removable storage seems minor. Updates will likely be much better on Pixel. Both phones appear to have a really good camera. I think the V20 would have to be about $650 or less to get me to seriously consider it.
Coming from the V10, I swapped batteries like they were going out of style, SOT wasn't great. I had never owned a non removable battery device until the Note 7 and made it work so,..There are so many "compromises" on all phones this year except the Note 7. Sad situation. I had the V10 so I am reluctant to go back to an IPS panel (personal preference) The Pixel is growing on me the more I see, not sure where I will end up at this point but know I have to take back my Note 7 so I need to figure it out.
I've had the G3, G4, V10 and my wife has the G5. Needless to say, huge LG fan. But, I have to root, go through all the trouble to ultimately make the phone more of a pure Google experience. Do not having to root to get a great UI, plus for pixel.
Next, I had the bootloop of death on my V10 two weeks ago so I got a Nexus 6p to try out while I waited for my replacement V10. That was it for me. I sat and watched all the security updates flow onto the phone! Wow, how impressive! Then got to use nougat pure and loved it. I didn't want to go back to nth V10. That's a tough thing for me to say as a huge fan of LG.
So at the end of the day, I'm going pixel. Here's my reasons.
1. Constant updates including security updates.
2. Purity. Maybe I finally won't have to root as phone!
3. Camera! Quality yes... But speed to take a picture! If it's anything at all like the nexus, I'm sold
4. I could care less about DAC. I haven't used wired phones in years.
5. 128gig, more than enough to not miss removable storage and let's face it, Google has been making consistently more annoying to even have a phone with it.
6. 2nd screen is cool but not particularly useful.
You are all right. But the nexus 6p had such a choppy expiriance.
The v20 is cheaper, same quality camera (more or less) and the IPS panel is great and close enough to amoled .
The issue is that we don't really know what to expect from the pixel.
Its a under clocked CPU with pure android and good camera. And there is a strong chance that most of us will will root it.
The v20 is cheaper with better sound qualities and also gonna be rooted to give us a pure expiriance.
Its a 5.7 screen and has an always on display.
Does the pixel really trump the v20?

I asked the same question. Don't let fanboys sway your decision. They both have pros and cons. I have had very bad issues wirh LG as far as text lag, screen throttle, scrolling lag, etc. At the same time, the pixel offers nothing new, no wow factor.
I chose the pixel simply becwuse I'm pressed to give up this note 7 and the pixel is available to order while LG, once again shows why they're not a serious player. They failed to take advantage of this Samsung screw up in the US where we still, a month or so later, have no release date.

Right, I am with you. Just returned the note 7 and I am looking for a replacement.
My wife has the LG G4 and she loves it and a good friend of mine has the V10 and he loves it.
I don't see a lag in any of them and when I compared the phones to my note 7 I was really jealous since the note has horrible lags.
You can buy the v20 unlocked at B&H and get a tablet with it for 870$, which is already almost 100 less from what I paid for the pixel. Plus you get a bigger screen with the V20, better audio, SD card slot, Dual camera (which will be pretty good and close to the pixel) and Nuget.
So at this point I am really baffled as to what I want to get.

T-Mobile had a great offer for the V20. 200 bucks trade-in for my old phone, free B&O headphones and a free tablet (which I don't need but will give to my nephew). The phone altogether costs me slightly above 550 bucks. In comparison to the almost 1,000.00 for the Pixel XL that seems like a steal even if I have to compromise with certain things. The Pixel has no wow effect other than some software gimmicks. I will get a Pixel 2nd gen next year. Hopefully then with some fantastic hardware.
I played with the V20 the other day in the AT&T store, it was just "okay" in my opinion. I am much more excited to play with the Pixel XL.

I played with the v20 and it was more than alright, its an amazing phone. I'm torn between the pixel and the v20 so I ordered both and will return the one that I don't want. The pixel will have my development by far!!!

To each his own, if you were digging it great, just didn't wow me. Now I am still mourning the loss of my Note7 so you know nothing is really exciting me now

I'm with you bro, hands down the note 7 is king. Remember that stupid saying " it's better to love and lost, rather than never finding love at all"... That's some untrue bs

HTC 10 or LG V20?

Hi everyone,
I need some advices. I have to buy a new smartphone, I had an LG G4 before but got the well known bootloop issue. It was 6 months ago.
Since then, didn't buy anything but really need one right now. So I have to choose between 2 devices: HTC 10 or LG V20. It's almost the same price.
I was an huge HTC Fan but got a lot of problems with their after sale services with my M8 and Desire Eye.
For LG, I'm really afraid of another bootloop issue with this V20.
I didn't find any comparison between these 2 flagships but I have a lot of questions.
First of all, on the video recording. On some YouTube videos, OIS on HTC 10 seems better than V20. Sounds recording seems great(if not better) also on HTC 10, or am I wrong? I really loved manual control on my previous G4 and glad that V20 got that on video recording, but is this really an advantage with this awful shaky OIS?(I hate the one on G4 and it's look like the same)
Secondly, the battery lifetime: on some reviews, I saw that V20 endurance was not so good, but how about the HTC 10?
And finally, on the headphone output: Is there an huge difference between the HTC 10 and LG V20? DAC or QuadDAC? Didn't find any comparison...
It's very hard for me to choose, it will be my daily smartphone for the next 2~3 years so I don't want to make a mistake. I love the 5.7" LG's big screen and removable battery but still love and really want to come back on HTC brand, Ultrapixel Camera render and Sense. Don't want to go for a Galaxy device....
So, if you had to choose between these 2, which one would you take and why? I'm waiting for your help and reply and thank you in advance.
1.heard some v20 user still had bootloop, but just a few
2. Photo quality is much better for HTC10, the V20 is really bad
3. Dunno about about audio quality on v20, but it said the quad DAC just upscale anything and not work in some case, at least HTC10 with the hi res headset are not bad too.
4. HTC 10 firmware make me feel it just beta quality, and if you use LG, Samsung, Nexus before you will say what the hell HTC still doing stupid things, such as very bad NFC card reading, VOLTE suddenly disappear, no RGB notification LED which can't customizable, bluetooth disconnect, not bright enough screen under sun. I can go for a long list what I hate on the 10.
I switch from Nexus 5 which had broken, so at that time I can only choose from Note 7, Pixel, 10, V20. pixel don't have OIS, V20 bad photo quality, Note 7 explosion, so I am force to choose 10 in terms for better photo quality.
If you really need a phone right now I will suggest get S8,or anything cheap such as MI and one plus. The soon release mi 6 is cheap and got 835, 6gb ram, but no ,3.5mm and only 1080p.

Thanks for the reply, S8 is a beast but it's so expansive. I found an One Plus 3T at almost the same price as HTC 10 and V20 but didn't really think about it. Is it a good one? And also have a look on Huawei P10.

It is a tough choice for 10 between 3T, for V20 I will not consider as I am afraid of if any bootloop issue in future and bad photo quality.
3T had touch screen lag problem, just fix in recent firmware but dunno how good it is. P10 totally against it, 1. it use 3 different kind of flash, from very slow to super fast, it like a lucky draw, 2. it lack of oleophobic coating, what the hell a modern smartphone lack of this? 3. CPU still not good enough for a flagship device
if you will flash custom rom then htc 10 is a good one, consider the hardware not so bad (except the nfc and weaker wifi reception).
If you go for 10, check the screen, it either Sharp panel or Tianma panel, talk about color accuracy (sRGB) the Tianma is better, but the Sharp panel is a little bit brighter and wider view angel, but will have some visible line on it. google the different before choose.
Actually the 10 will be my last HTC device, I can't understand how come they still can't fix the volte issue. I also have some app incompatible issue but not on my wife s7 edge.
p.s. It can't tell it is which panel until you look at the screen.

Ok, thanks a lot for taking time to answer me. I think I’ll go for the HTC 10, it was my first choice and I think I won’t be disappointed with.
only reason to choose the V20 over the 10 is if sound quality is one of the top 3 features you want from a smartphone. That said, if you don't have, or don't plan on getting, great headphones then the V20's sound quality advantage becomes irrelevant. The 10's DAC is great and is at the top in comparison to other smartphones, but isn't quite on par with the V20. In all other aspects though the 10 is a better smartphone

I just want to share my opinion about HTC 10.
HTC was once my favourite smartphone company, because of its audio quality and UI design. I used HTC one m7 for almost 4 years without any major issues and finally bought HTC 10 on November 2016, The performance was good and Camera is also good but not the best, galaxy s7 edge has better camera. but still audio recording and sound quality was top class. I updated to nougat on january end and it was working perfectly for about a month. however my faith in HTC has got down not long ago, ever since my HTC 10 became useless on the account of bootloop issue on february 2016.
I bought the device from another country and warranty is available only in that country, anyhow i had sent it for replacement and one of my friend who was in HTC service centre told me that he had seen 12 other HTC 10 phones sent for similar bootloop problems.
I'am waiting for the replacement of my HTC 10 for one n half months. When I recieve the device, first thing i'm gonna do probably is sell it !

And what do you think about the brand-new LG G6? Did you heard something bad or weird about that one?
In my country I could find it for 599 euros right now, one month ago it was 750 !!!! what's happened? Bootloop again ?

because outdated CPU + camera sensor, same as HTC U ultra
and for G6 you will not receive the full spec unless you get the US or korea version, as I know US got wireless charge and Korea + some asia country got qual dac, feel weird?
p.s. the HTC U ultra sapphire limited edition give a large discount even when pre order to make it cheaper then S8 in my region

As a music producer and audiophile, I totally agree. The V20 has made strides in mobile DACs and audio processing in terms of handling impedance and super low noise floor; needles to say it drives my HD 650's pretty well. I don't know if I would agree with the above statements on camera quality... it takes great pictures. I will say that the one thing that irks me about the phone is its UI. At times, it handles multiple applications well, and other times having a few music applications open as well as messenger applications is enough to frustrate me. Not exactly sure what causes it but considering a re-flash soon. I just don't want to risk loosing my DAC upon install of a new rom.

I don't have a ton of experience with LG's UI, but it seems to be almost as lightweight as Sense 8. A major problem with a stock version of Sense 8 is that HTC sets it's kernel parameters to be way too conservative which causes hiccups similar to what you describe on your LG. So it's possible the same thing is happening.
I did some reading on the V20 forums and noticed some saying the Lineage based ROMs still sounded great. None of them had any HD 650s, but, as I'm sure you know, audio "quality" is highly subjective so it might sound degraded to your ears. I'd try it and if the audio sounds worse just go back to stock.

Alright I'd be willing to try that! My only problem is I've always had issues reverting to stock after a flash. My Evo from back in the day was the worst at that.

All you'd have to do is make a full backup in TWRP before you flash a rom. Then if you don't like the rom just restore from TWRP
