Question about Custom ROM usage - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

Ok, I think this is going to be a noob question, but anyways...
I've seen the Moto G5 plus community making some custom roms for their devices. Since the G5+ is extremely similar to the Z2 Play when it comes to hardware specs, is it possible to just flash a G5+ rom into the Z2?
Since I only have one android device, I can't take many risks so I wanna know if someone has done it or is willing to do it
If it's impossible (I'm thinking it probably is anyways), how hard would properly porting it to the Z2 be?

Flashing that file on your system it's a good way to break your phone. Your question makes me wonder what do you expect to get from a custom ROM? Why you doing this because everybody else is? If it's your only Android phone be very careful. Moto mods don't work on custom roms.

It does not matter the reason, this was just a thought that came to my head a while ago, and made me want to ask a question here
I've always used CM/Lineage based ROMs, and although it became a habit, I still don't know much about the workings of software/hardware interaction on android

If you have the unlocked version which supports all major US carriers or you have a GSM only version then you might be able to find some help. Check the forums but there is not as much work on Z2 play as the Moto Z play. If you have the Verizon version then I heard that the bootloader is locked.

[Q] What happens if you use a rom that isn't meant for your device?

I really would like to use MIUI for my HTC Wildfire, which is why I rooted my phone in the first place. :/
It wont install / it wont boot.
Surely you must have seen the available ROMs in the Dev Zone if you were rooting only for MIUI?? MIUI being such an eye candy ROM is obviously designed only for devices which have hardware capable for it.
Haha, I looked up MIUI and thought that it was really pretty and found out it's only for rooted devices. I spent more time trying to figure out how to root my 2.2 device than even bothering to check if MIUI is suitable for Wildfire. Thank you for you reply.

[Q] Stock Galaxy T310 Wi-Fi only ROM?

Hello All,
I'm no Dev, I'm not claiming to be. I simply used ArchiKitchen to make a stock based ROM because the other ones supplied might have caused issues for me. Not dogging those other Devs but no matter which one I chose there were underlying issues that were persistent.
I'm asking if anyone would like me to upload and make available a Stock 4.4.2 UK based TW ROM with nothing altered in the build.prop. Rooted, De-Odexed, busybox, and zip-aligned. I can offer a full and a debloated version if this is of any interest to anyone.
IF I do upload this ROM, I do not offer any assistance and do not guarantee this ROM will work for you. I will not make any other varients, just the T310 WiFi version. Again I stipulate I am in no way a Dev, I simply did this because I wanted something as near stock as possible without any mods to the system or build.prop to try and eliminate whatever issues are being caused on my own Galaxy Tab 3.
I have been running a ROM I built in the ArchiKitchen for 24 hours without issue so far so I thought I would offer something basic for the community.
So.........?

A,
if your rom is square make it available. as long as you're not duplicating something that's already been done
someone may have a use/need for/of it.
Maybe in the process of maintaining it you will develop into a developer and come up with
new/useful/cool things.

Best LG G3 ROM

Hi,
I have the F400K variant currently running on stock Lollipop.
Just wondering what people think is the best ROM for me to flash.
I'm debating AndroidHD and CloudyG3 since those seem to be the big two, but would consider other ROMS like CM (but no official support at the moment).
ROMs nowadays have built-in updates without having the need to flash via a computer, right? I haven't used an Android phone since the original Optimus G, so I'm very out of loop.
Thanks.
There is no best rom.
ps. thread will get locked
"ROMs nowadays have built-in updates without having the need to flash via a computer, right? I haven't used an Android phone since the original Optimus G, so I'm very out of loop."
There's a very small chance somebody is going to spoonfed you every detail and everything you need to know about this device on the forums. Please look through the XDA forums if you have any questions or simply use Google.
Like DelBoy said, there is no best ROM because tastes differ. Flash whatever you like. There is no good or bad.

Hi,
I searched already on XDA as well as on the LGG3 subreddit and found no threads such as the like, and therefore made this posting.
In no way am I asking to be spoonfed "every" detail, I simply asked two questions.
But thank you for your insight. I'm going to give CloudyG3 a go.

Need expert help

I have this Lg Optimus G Pro just laying around and I want to update it from Kit Kat to Marshmallow or Nougat. The problem is I'm a newbie and have no complete idea to do this. So I want to use this phone to practice with. Can someone help with a tutorial or some links to custom ROMs, Recovery anything would be helpful. Thanks
Better first try building officially supported ROMs that already exist for this device (Kitkat or Lollipop ones) instead of trying to port it to newer android versions if you're a newbie. This device is helluva hard to maintain if you don't know what are you doing - Jellybean libs and firmware require lots of hacks and fixes to make it run on Nougat, there are issues with drivers and lack of proper maintenance/updates since CM11. Locked bootloader is just another thing to think about.

Question Custom Roms

Perhaps I am asking something that still doesn't have an answer. I am interested in purchasing this phone, but I am afraid because I don't know if there will be custom ROMs developed for it. I am interested in it because I don't usually upgrade my phone every few years.

Buy it if you like it, but custom roms will obviously be available and some custom roms have appeared

I am waiting for PE too.
Before anyone can develop a custom ROM we have to wait for the kernel sources to be released. It's hard to know when this will be as Xiaomi can be very slow sometimes, but I think it's a good sign that the F5 Pro/Redmi K60 kernel has been made available.
Wasn't that also the problem of the xiaomi 12 series? They're still waiting for that sources

I'm using that marble phone. As i know Until now, there isn't custom rom available yet.
For a while, i prefer to stay on original china rom. I still thinking about unlock the bootloader, because i don't have windows pc/laptop. It's complicated to installing eu rom on mac

You can actually flash the EU ROM because there's a new type for the flashable .zips where you can flash it on either a recovery or fastboot
