Pixel XL Headphone Jack issues with Earbuds - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Hello! I am having a problem with my Verizon Pixel XL, it seems that several earbuds/headphones I have do not work properly when used with the Pixel XL.
When using the headphones/earbuds the audio works in the speakers, but the microphone does not work. The earbuds are not defective as the sound and mics work on my Ipad and my Note 8.
I have this problem with (4) different earbuds I have purchased and it does not work on my Pixel XL or my brothers Pixel XL so it does not seem to be a problem with my specific device.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
MIC NOT WORKING:
Samsung ANC Earbuds
AKG Earbuds
(2) other cheaper no name brand ear buds.
WORKING:
Samsung earbuds which came with my NOTE 7.
Beats Earbuds.
Beats solo 3
Also the earbuds/headphones are plugged in all the way.

All headphones and earbuds i have work flawlessly, so this may be an isolated problem.
I do remember one of my older HTC phones having problems with certain headphones. It was along the lines of earbuds with only a mic and one button would work flawless. But the earbuds that ONLY had a mic (no buttons) or earbuds with multiple buttons (volup/voldown/etc) wouldnt work.
i ended up replacing the 3.5mm jack (which included a whole circuit board) which fixed the problem.
Try cleaning it while being careful not to push potential crud further in, and then attempt a factory flash, then i would suggest contacting Google support.

I have tested the earbuds in 3 Pixel XL now, all the same results. I have found oddly that if I do not push the headphone jack all the way in and it just "sits" in the slot without the normal click, then the mic and sound works flawless. However being loose this isn't a permanent solution. Once push all the way in until it "clicks" the mic no longer works but the sound still works.

I'm having the same issue, along with several coworkers so its not an isolated incident. Never noticed this until I got a pair of the samsung akg tuned earbuds. Mic didn't work with my oneplus 3t or pixel xl unless I do that trick you are referencing. I found that if you wait to hear feedback in your headphones and then slowly push it in, they work but only for that time. This trick does seem to be much easier to pull off with the 3t though. I had an old pair of htc earbuds a friend gave me and that mic works fine. As does a pair of sennheiser momentum. Its only the pixel xl or 3t that have these problems.

Not sure if everyone is aware that the pixel xl uses omtp standard, where most phones are ctia. Ctia earphones will not work in an omtp device. You can buy an adapter but that does seem like an elegant solution.

I have heard that. Everything works fine, sound and volume keys, except the microphone. Seems weird that would be the only thing affected. I'll have to look into this adapter. I've literally never heard of this before today and just assumed there was just one standard for the headphone jack.

same here, in excitement I purchased an AKG earphone but the mic is not compatible with pixel XL though both work flawlessly with other combinations (earphones and mobiles and vice verse)

[Q] Droid 2 Headset Support Problems

Hey guys,
Don't know if you noticed but the Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global are having some hands-free headphone problems. It seems that they don't play nice with certain headsets that plug into the 3.5 mm jack.
Most, if not all, of these headset were designed for the Iphone/Itouch. For example, I have the Klipsch Image s4i's, which work stunningly with my Itouch; however, the mic doesn't work with my Droid 2 Global and the volume up/down and center button don't act as they normally should.
I'm not exactly sure why, but I've tested many different headsets to make sure it wasn't my Klipsch headphones' fault. After searching other forums as well, it seems that other people are having this problem, but posters normally reply with "well, my 'such and such' headphones and mic work fine, it must be your phone" and they just shrug off the question.
I'm pretty sure this is a legitimate problem with the phone. Anybody have any idea how to fix this problem? I feel that there has to be someway to program the input from the mic and buttons to work with the Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global hardware.
I don't use wired headsets so I have no idea.
I don't think the iphone/ipod earphone's control is compatible with Droid. I've tried Apple MA850 and an phone-compatible in-ear headset from Denon, none of their control works
I'm still looking for better in-ear headset that works with Droid, any clue will be appreciated!

Earphone not being detected when mic broken

Hey guys, had my HTC One M9 a month and a half now and have been using the earphones that came with it a lot. Yesterday on my evening jog the music randomly stopped and i realised that the earphones were no longer being recognised. I tried plugging them into a laptop and a galaxy tab and they were working fine but on my dads old HTC One M7 they also were not recognised. Old apple earphones and earphones for samsung galaxy both worked with the phone. After testing the the jack piece with a voltmeter my brother found that the mic ring was faulty and I came to the conclusion that the phone recognises earphone connection based on the mic sleeve ring.
I was wondering if there was anyway to bypass this detection so that i can get my earphones to work again, I have no need for the mic anyway so it's not such a big deal.
another question is whether or not standard non microphone earphones will work with the phone as I'm considering purchasing RP-HJE120K from Amazon and they don't have a microphone. I've also read that HTC's support CTIA, does anyone know if the OMTP standard is supported?
Thanks in Advance,
Jas
I have a pair of skullcandy headphones w/mic and they work great so i presume any will do.. Tbh there are better earphones out there at a reasonable price compared to the htc ones..

Headphone jack ?

Has anyone had issues with their Pix C headphone jack?
I recently bought a new pair of AKG earbuds and just realised they dont work with my pix c. I then tried to test all the assorted earbuds I had at home:
Urban ears Bagis – works
Pair of decent but older sonys – works
but, the AKGs, a pair of HTC ones from an old phone, and a set of zero audio carbon tenores all DONT work.
any ideas? oh and FYI the urban ears are 3 rings, and the sonys are 2 rings.....the AKG is 3 ring, and the HTC and the Zero are 2 ring.
no issues here.

Could I ask which earphones you had tried? Have you used multiple units with success?
Perhaps my headphone jack isnt right...
Random, cheap $hit earbuds lol I think the pair that I was using yesterday were cheap Sony earbuds. I don't use the headphone jack often.
I use the Koss ProDJ100 headphones. I also have tested my Sennheiser Game One headphones on the Pixcel C too. Both worked great.

TESTED USB-C headset for 10$ that works

So, i saw lots of discussions around for a usb-c headphones that actually works with pixel 2 (mine is pixel 2xl)..
I ordered long time ago this usb-c headset from AliExpress, and forgot about it, then i received it today.. And it wooooorks.. Its actually really good (not saying high end headset good) but high volume, definitely noticeable bass, and very cheap (about 10$)..
So the secret was when i was searching for something that works with pixel 2 is to have CDLA (maybe a dax feature or a driver in it)..
Below you can see its picture and a link.. but also you can just search for usb c with CDLA on AliExpress..
The link:
Original Letv CDLA Earphone Letv 2Pro HiFi Chip Inbedded Continual Digital Lossless Audio Type-C for Xiaomi 6 Gold Galved Mic

(from AliExpress Android)
What i don't like (but can live with it since its that cheap) is that its not in ear, its more like the shape of apple's one's.. And the mic is on the wire of the left ear (strange given that am used to the mic being on the right ear wire)
Honestly, the main reason for me to use it is that am on the phone a lot, and i want a quick plug and play mono headset, so am going to cut off one of the ears speakers (mono conversion).. And with it being that cheap, i don't mind the cutting (at least not a 50$ plus for an earset that i will end up cutting)
BAHAHA Looks like they took their iPhone headphones and put a USB C on instead of a Lightning. But having used the apple ones I might be interested in a pair since I kinda like em.

Louder than any normal 3.5 with an adapter, clear enough (but not high end clear), with a very noticeable bass (which i like, but again not high end bass)..

You are better than the Verge staff!

The Verge certainly likes to bash the Pixel 2!!

Instead of a dongle it should be an adapter that is cordless. Just the input and output on each side. Probably lose it even faster haha

These are the same headphones that come with the LeEco S3, Pro, etc. I have them and they are very impressive. They truly sound better than earbuds in the $100 range.

Hahahaha.. But mmmmm should google pay me then ?
Back at low price, I'm going to buy it!
Music worked but microphone didn't. Anyone else have a similar experience?
Yeah..mic don't work properly during a phonecall. The other party I called said that there was a loud annoying buzzing electrical noise when I use this headphone. I bought 2 pieces and both had the same issue. Disappointed
This will change my idea... Damn
wanted to buy this until i saw the price.........
Yaaaa noticed that too.. Sometimes the mic doesn't work.. Agree with most here..
Other suggestion for type c earphones working with mic?
Can't get these to work on my phone. Is there an option I haven't enabled, or is Flash Kernel interfering in someway maybe?
Can confirm they work on my computer so its not the headphones themselves
EDIT: so interestingly I flipped around the usb cord and it works haha. Weird how it works one way and not the other.
Mine arrived yesterday and the microphone works perfectly.

Why do all my headphones not work, other than supplied Huawei in-ear buds?

I have got the official UK released Huawei Mate 20 X phone. When I go to use my Bower & Wilkins P3 and P5 headphones via the 3.5mm headphone socket, they work fine but once I put the phone in my jacket pocket.. they either stop working and the music plays out of the speakers instead, or the music pauses. The only headphones that continue to work are the supplied cheap Huawei in-ear buds. My phone has the official Huawei smart view case. I originally thought it was to do with the smart view case causing issues when I close the flip. Disabled the smart view function.. no difference. I then thought my problems could be caused by gestures, so checked settings. No issues there. I am using Nova Prime launcher, so I checked to see if any gestures were set.. none were active. I checked that the headphone jack hole set in the case allowed for a clean connection for the headphones.. no problems there. The headphone jacks on all the headphones all look identical. I have contacted Huawei, but basically they were unhelpful, simply stating that they cannot guarantee their products working with 3rd party headphones?!?! I have researched online and even installed apps that try to force the music to play through the headphone jack.. one would not work completely, the other states it will not work with Android 9. Summing up, I have expensive quality headphones that provide a far better audio listening experience, but cannot get them to play consistently. I have ordered a USB C headphone adaptor to see if I can get my headphones to work that way. This mystery is driving me mad, any advice to solve my problems would be much appreciated.
Using a case that covers around the hole?
No, that was the first thing I checked.
Mine works with any, I have 3 iPhone buds, two HTC buds and the one that came with the phone, all work, but the HTC buds work best IMO.
