GUIDE: Make your V30 Faster and Smoother - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

I"ll keep it short, if you guys have more tips to improve on this please share.
I have been testing this for days on my wife stock v30 and mine. Both started the same with all bloware.
After doing this I actually get
-Better battery
-Less battery drain in standby
-Faster performance
-and MUCH SMOOTHER SCROLLING
It seems to be a few LG apps running in the backgroung that are causing the stutter and lag we have all experience,
some more than others.
Before doing this, go into different apps check speed and scrolling (Instagram, google home, gmail etc) so u can see the before and after.
READ THIS BEFORE DOING:
-LG KEYBOARD IS DISABLE, download a different keyboard (swipe, gboard) and have that already install in your device, if you already have then disregard this
-Also downloaded a different launcher if u are going to disable the stock launcher. I recommend using a different launcher other than the LG.
Let start.
1: Go into play store and download "LG package disabler"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lgpd.pmanager
I believe is $1.99 but well worth it for what u can actually do
The LG PACKAGE DISABLE is suppost to AUTOMATICALLY download thr plugin needed to have administrator right so u can disable apps. if it doesnt after installation. download it here.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.weblib.mdm
2: BELOW I have attach pics of all apps i have disable. disable all or just the apps u which to disable.
NOTE: I disable Chrome (using Samsung internet beta) which support ad blocker (highly recommended) you can enable chrome in LG PD
3: go to developer option and enable "force gpu rendering"
after all this, Restart your phone. It should be faster and smoother.
Theres a few things you might want ENABLE (like the floating bar) which I have disable since I don't use it.
I did not include the 0.5X animation trick since I like my animation to be at 1.0X (personal choice)

I just used that xml and so far things certainly feel snappier -- will test the battery tomorrow though.
I was getting almost 5hrs of screen on time before, I'm curious how much of an impact disabling all these packages will have.

save the xml. in ur device. open LG PD. on upper right hand conner u will see 3 dots. when u press that you'll see different options including "import from xml". choose that and select file.

So far so good, just had to re enable a few things that I use but its a lot snappier. Thanks.

i did this as well but now i cant seem to re-enable anything. I uncheck the box and it rechecks it. I imported the xml file

even if u delete the app and reboot?

I have around 20 apps disabled this way myself, and regularly get over 7 hours SOT. That includes spending 8 hours in poor signal areas and using WiFi Calling.

Right. Once rebooted it didn't work so removed and readded apps. Probably just my lucky day

V30 is great for battery life even with no app disable. This is more about making the snappier. i do get 7 - 8 plus sot on every charge.

I've done this on other phones, so I know how, but when I import and set, the apps don't get disabled. I have to go through manually. Any idea why?

I've been using this since this morning including the XML file. Seems to be working great although I haven't been paying enough attention to know whether or not battery life has improved. At the very least it's worth it to know that I can get rid of all of the bloatware.

Exactly. Just have to be careful that you don't disable too much. You can accidentally disable things that seem like bloat, but somewhere deep in the system settings, another app/feature could be looking for it. I played that game for weeks getting the debloat of my V20 ROMs just right.

the app doesn't work for me for some reason. I run it, import the xml file, it says "107 packages disabled" or something like that, then reboot my phone, and check how many packages are disabled, and it says only 3. Whenever I import the xml file I never see it actually put a checkmark next to any packages to disable.
Any ideas what's going on? I've already uninstalled/reinstalled and it does the same thing. Do I manually need to give the app certain permissions?
---------- Post added at 10:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 AM ----------
I now went through the steps to make the app an owner app from adb, and I successfully was able to run the command (removed all my accounts, ran the command, re-added my accounts). Still, nothing actually disables.

OK, just tried this with Package Disabler (not the LG specific one) and it bricked my phone. I'm now stuck on the white T-Mobile screen and the phone won't load. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Who can rut tests on just freshly unboxed V30? So we could measure if we can get it faster

You are not bricked. Not from disabling packages. You will have to factory reset to get back up and running,

AT&T Lollipop Update: Changes, good things, bad things, etc!

So, AT&T has started rolling out the Lollipop (5.0.1) update. I have yet to receive it. Guys/gals, please start posting your findings if you have already updated.
its taking forever to download!!
Lost blocking mode. Now you have to make a list to block numbers versus just blocking all numbers not on my contacts.
Edit: It has been changed to "do not disturb mode"
I'd be curious to know if ES File Explorer can write to the SD card in this update, if anyone gets a chance to try it.

Has the developer updated the app to write to SD card for Lollipop?
I know that when I was using ART runtime on kitkat, I had to wait a little while before booting in order to compile the apps. I guess they made ART more efficient because it no longer takes a lot of time to compile apps when rebooting. We also lost the ability to switch between dalvik and ART. I think its just ART now.

Yes they have, I was just not certain if Samsung and AT&T had done anything to screw with this functionality.
I'm have thinking about buying this phone. Is the recent app button lag still there? Does lollipop feel smoother or about the same? Thanks

i've only been using it for a few hours and so far it doesnt feel that much different (performance-wise). The recent app button is pretty quick, now. There's always going to be a bit of lag as it needs to pull in the recent apps list but i just tested it and it was only about 1 sec with about 5 apps listed.
I do know this . first couple problems I had to do 2 battery pulls . I had a lot of force closes issues . google launcher kept FCing . also , using recent apps button cause it to freeze up . After my battery pulls , no problems . Also , tested GPS and everything works still. Woohoo !
Just finished restarting.
Recent apps is definitely faster, though there just a bit of a lag. Haven't had a chance to really do anything else, though I really wasn't expecting much of a change under the hood for 5.0.
Now we can disable many apps that we cant on kk without a computer or a program like evernote...

Thanks, guys, for checking that for me!
Ambient Display
I'm disappointed to find that they didn't include Ambient Display. Is there somewhere I'm not looking? That was one of the big reasons I wanted this update.

in SECURITY, scroll to the very bottom.
I found that there is a setting to turn KNOX on and off under security settings On my sm-n910a. The knox setting is off by default, and my phone is noticeably faster.
I did the update from Kit-Kat (With ART Enabled). And it was worlds faster. Specially opening my 1500+ picture gallery.
After that I did a system reset just to start fresh, But even without that it was way faster.
Haven't had any crashes or force closes. And it looks better. So far I'm very happy with the update.
Everything looks the same(even the Settings tab, location tabs....) beside feeling a bit snappier. No fc yet

Package Disabler

For those of us not willing to root right now, I have to say using package disabler to turn off CleanMaster, S-Voice and S-Finder have done wonders in the last 48 hours for making this phone just as responsive as my 2014 Moto X was. I've been close to biting the bullet and trading it in for almost anything else, and this may have changed my mind.

Wow I can confirm. Worked fine before and now it doesn't work. Doesn't even let me active the pack disabled anymore. Smh.
What do I do about the apps I disabled?
Doesn't work, License server error before program starts.
Also very dangerous tool as it needs internet to work.
If you by misstake disable something that has to do with connectivity you will end up having to do a factory restore !!
If you by misstake installed this crap onto your device, you might notice that the de-install option is greyed out, don't panic.
Go into the security section and de-select the app under device administrators.
Now it can be de-installed.

Doesn't work and useless unless the internet dependency is removed.
Usually these kind of apps are being offered for free at XDA forums, but there's always somebody who's trying to
turn it into a buck, totally disregarding the people who d/l this and softbrick their phones...
Also the whole purpose and usefulness of the tool is defeated if you need internet access to d/l and use it.
Reason being the phone fills up with crap, the same second you connect it to the internet the first time.
You want to run a tool like this before, not giving the phone a chance to fill up with junk/updates.
Especially important is this in regards to OTA.
Disabled junk is still junk eating precious space on your mobile.
Package Disabler works fine on S6 5.1.1 Stock without root

I am not sure what you are saying about this app is correct! in Android please tell me which app do not require internet, and accessing internet is dangers then all apps in play store is dangerous. Debloater do not give any recombination for which packages to disable, if you disable system packages with Debloater the only option left is factory reset (I have to factory reset my Note 3 after using Debloater)

There is also coding to identify bloatwares. It will double your speed.

i haven't root my S6 edge and don't really want to yet. so i was looking for something like this.
yeah i debloated it with a few app i actually use, great thing about this app is that it shows you which app are "confirmed" safe to deblot. it actually debloted automatically like 140things from my system.
where can i get those codes i don't se it in any of the setting?
i was about to give up on touchwiz and this galaxy s6, since i got it touchwiz has been hell with the reloading of widget and icons, clear cache and data help but a few hours later the slowness would returned ( i already exchanged devices 4 times for other reason and all of them had the same problem), also phone would get hot, sometimes pretty darn hot.
This app has solve all problem (also a different launcher like nova solved it) but using touchwiz and this debloted app have giving me more battery life, super fast device, no more reloading, and it never heats up.
i for one would like to have a device from samsung that i would not have to deblot to get a lag free experience. i believe the only device i have never root from samsung was the note 3 which ran like a champ always.

Debloating

Hi, I just want to share with you the list of apps I have disabled using "Package Disabler Pro".
The app costs a couple of dollars and does not need root: it only disables apps and does not remove them.
I am attaching the XML file: you can either import this in the app (and modify the outcome) or open the file to see the list of disabled apps.
Two more apps that can be disabled are...
... com.sec.android.app.soundalive: the equaliser
... com.sec.hearingadjust: tweaks audio thru headphones based on an audio test
Be careful that by disabling get the following apps (list not exhaustive) you may get FC's in some settings:
- Themes (on top of the main settings page)
- Calendar, Messages (sms), Email (in sound settings)
Nothing to be worried about: it's just bad coding from Samsung

Be careful about disabling touchwiz. If you don´t have a launcher, you will end up in a reboot loop (read it elsewhere).
Btw, I am using it too. Will post the list briefly, but I am having problems: cant take any screenshots. Pressing the home button and power button simultaneously does nothing. Any ideas?

There is a massive thread going on for this with the note 5. I have been keeping track. But is the bloat carrier specific? I'm with 3 UK. I have package disabler pro and have done nothing with it as I'm worried running an xml for say an American bloated handset. Will cause issues. I don't like just turning of something when I have no idea what it's for.

Hi thanks for the list. I used the debloater app along with the list above to remove a boat load of apps.
I am removing a few more, will soon post a new list. Phone battery is now lasting a lot longer. Have also installed Google Launcher: it is a lot smoother than touch wiz, especially scrollable widgets.

Various LG V30 Tweaks and Modding - Discussion

I wanted to start an informal thread here where anyone could discuss various little mods and tweaks that any of us might be playing around with on our V30s.
I'm not talking major things like flashing a rom or rooting or anything like that. We already have super talented people that helped to make all those things possible and there are 100+ page threads about some of them. (Big thanks to all of you serious developers!)
Consider this a discussion thread for the "Tinkerers" though more experienced actual development is of course welcomed.
Personally I am always playing around with my device just to see what I can get it to do, or access or change etc. I use apps like Preference Manager, and Shortcut Master to play around and discover the "hidden" stuff that you aren't supposed to get to, or at least not yet. Sometimes this gives me a sneak peak at some beta feature or adds a setting I didn't have, or a UI tweak etc.
I figure that a bunch of you probably do the same things and thought it would be cool to have a thread just to share those little one off things we discover that wouldn't normally warrant a whole post of it's own.
Maybe you want to share what substratum build is working well for you.
Or maybe you found a magisk module that wasn't built for the LG V30 but works great (Dialer and contacts for the one plus worked great on my device)
I'll kick us off with one little tweak I never see posts about.
Using Shortcut Master I have changed some of the LG Home App settings in order to have a modded home launcher. Basically I'm using some of the features LG chooses to keep hidden. Some pics of the menu are below. Minor changes but I've had the Google screen to the left of my home screen for a while now and I don't have to use Nova or something else to get it to work.
I've never really seen a post on what all of these check boxes do, so I've played around with all of them and can report that most are minor, and some will ruin your day, so Tinkerers beware if you decide to emulate.
Here's another example of the kind of stuff I mean. Does anyone actually know what High Lux Mode does? I've enabled and disabled and don't really notice a difference.
Maybe a thread like this will help shed a little light on something we can all use.
I want to share that anyone on rom without Qlen support can co to system/build.prop, find "lge.support.lglens=not-suppport" change it to support and reboot

That's probably because those screenshots are from older versions of Android. Or he has some theme applied.
It looks like the screenshots where it's been talked about in other threads, especially the Shortcut Master Lite.
You can still download a copy of Shortcut Master (Lite) 1.2.4 from APKMirror. It disappeared from the Play Store about a month ago - I'm not sure of the reason.

Not positive and can't test for it because I don't yet have a V30, but I would guess this toggles the phone's ability to use fullbright/sunlight/etc mode.
Brightness is usually capped below 100% to increase panel longevity; this limit is bypassed with high enough light levels hitting the light sensor next to the call speaker. Last I heard you need VERY bright light with the V30, and the high threshold makes it flicker on and off a lot; this could give some people bothered by it a bit of relief.

Thanks again for this info. I would appreciate if you can assist me in enabling the swipe left to Google on home page of lg stock launcher(no app.drawer option)
Swap Torpedo (Magisk Module): It flushes your stupid stupid compressed ZRAM/Swap. All of your apps will load faster and smoother.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-swap-torpedo-run-faster-reliably-t3766883
Reasoning: You don't need freaking swap on a phone with 2 GB or more. V30 has 4 GB RAM. Never run into any issues with this. Flash and forget.
fstrim (Magisk module): trims your phone when it has been idle for more than 5 minutes.
https://github.com/GreyLeshy/magisk-module-fstrim/releases
Reasoning: Right now your phone only trims when it has been idle for hours and is charging which is almost never. You will notice the difference. Things will write faster to storage. Read and write speeds are faster in general. It's a very simple script that you don't need to check for updates. Flash and forget.
RAM Manager (Magisk Module): Reduces app refreshing significantly.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/ram-manager-magisk-t3816986
Reasoning: V30 has very aggressive memory management which works for most people but gives trouble for heavy multitasking. This is fixing the issue. Everything stays in memory until it's absolutely out of memory. Then it starts kicking things out. Flash and forget. Note: If you want to use this with Swap Torpedo you must install Swap Torpedo first, then RAM Manager.
None of these tweaks consume battery, in fact they save you battery. I used to tweak my previous phones a lot but after many tests I've realized that the V30 is incredibly optimized. No need for L Speed or Kernel Adiutor or any of that nonsense. Storage, CPU, GPU and battery performance are super optimized on this device. It even puts some flagship phones with SD 845 CPUs to shame. LG devs did an incredible job and pulling out ALL of the stops to make it run smooth. Read ahead is already at 4096 kb, no need to tweak! Storage is mounted relatime so it won't waste write and read. All partitions are already aligned perfectly. LG dedicated some space for overprovisioning so nothing to tweak there either. On a good day my UFS 2.1 storage read speed is more than 740 MB/s and write up to 300 MB/s. More than my SSDs in my computer. Incredible work by LG. Battery life is tweaked to the maximum as well and so is GPU driver performance. Do not touch those things especially build.prop. Every other tweak I have tried has introduced some issue somewhere else. This is a phone that you leave alone and be happy that the devs optimized it so well LG has people smarter than us working on these and who fully understand how the device works. The era of complex kernel tweaks and scripts is officially over.

Swap Torpedo (Magisk Module): It flushes your stupid stupid compressed ZRAM/Swap. All of your apps will load faster and smoother.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-swap-torpedo-run-faster-reliably-t3766883
Reasoning: You don't need freaking swap on a phone with 2 GB or more. V30 has 4 GB RAM. Never run into any issues with this. Flash and forget.

Thanks for the tips on the other 2 but I just wanted to chime in on swap torpedo or getting rid of the swap on the V30. Doing this made a pretty big difference on my V20 but I noticed on my TMobile V30 that it actually was making me reload certain apps quite frequently. Now I didn't do very much testing with it but I noticed that when I got rid of swap if I had one of my more intensive 3D games running and I switched over to the camera or vice versa I would have to reload the app that was switched from. With stock swap settings I could switch back to the previous app (game or camera whichever) and it would still be open and ready.
Now take this with a grain of salt obviously because there are too many variables but I'm sharing my experience and so far mine has been better with stock swap settings on the H932 at least.
For those who don't frequent the Q&A section, @rollingstone321 figured out how to force quick-charging while the screen is on;

Ok after searching a long time I have found where lg did hide the charging restriction
Sys/module/lge_power_class_charging_controller
If you put the parameter for restricted_charging to LCD OFF you will get quick charge when also using the phone.
But Android changes this parameter back once the device goes to sleep. How can I make this parameter stay or even remove the module?

Try setting it to read-only. I'm not sure if this will persist the setting after reboot, though. This might also have the unintended effect of forcing the charging restriction to happen while the screen is off, as "LCD OFF" suggests; have you tried seeing what happens if you blank the setting instead?

Leaving it blank freezes the phone, same with '0' or 'disable'. So LCD OFF is only option for now. But I rather have fast charge while I m using Waze in the car and be able to charge till 100% fast, and slow charging at night.
...
Seems like changing the parameter to LCD OFF and setting the file to only read did the trick.

As bolded, setting it to LCD OFF and making it read-only might make the phone slow-charge while the screen is off. Having something (Tasker, AutomateIt, etc) set it each time the screen is turned on is a better solution if you want all QC, all the time, since it'll reset itself on screen-off.
If someone wants to go digging in LG's kernel source to see what the valid parameters are, figure out the proper setting to just disable the limiter and set it to read-only, that'd of course be best.
I went digging myself using Lunar kernel, and it seems this is read and limit set based on it, not the condition under which the restriction is imposed as I first thought.

Keep in mind that fast-charging alone creates quite some heat, and doing it while running the SoC under load will increase the rate that your battery ages. It's hard to say how much, since there are so many contributing factors to battery wear, but one thing is true regardless: li-ion batteries don't particularly like heat. Charge responsibly!

No I can confirm what you are saying. There is more reloading because LG optimized the V30 so perfectly. You really don't need the tweaks tbh. But that is why I use Swap Torpedo in conjunction with RAM Manager. I would even argue there is not enough of a benefit that people would notice anyway but for me things like Nova Launcher run slightly smoother. It might even just be placebo and there is no tangible difference. Either way V30 is so well optimized out of the box, I personally believe it's a waste of time and resources to use tweaks even if I use them. :good:

Reasoning: Right now your phone only trims when it has been idle for hours and is charging which is almost never. You will notice the difference. Things will write faster to storage. Read and write speeds are faster in general. It's a very simple script that you don't need to check for updates. Flash and forget.

Isn't this actually bad though? You don't want fstrim triggering 24/7? I know on an SSD that counts as writes and you only get a certain amount until you kill the lifespan.

RAM Torpedo is actually good. Just look for yourself. Screenshot of before and after.

Ok using torpedo swap, it's actually horrible for multitasking. I'll have only 1 app open, ( line chat) open chrome for a link, copy and go back to line chat and it wants to reload.
Total crap. Never had an issue till this mod. It's also the only mod I've ran.

I've never really seen a post on what all of these check boxes do, so I've played around with all of them and can report that most are minor, and some will ruin your day, so Tinkerers beware if you decide to emulate.[/QUOTE
How do I navigate to these screens? I have shortcut master and can't find them. I want to enable support for Google now launcher.
Thanks

How do I get good battery life

Hi guys,
So around 1 month ago now, I got myself hands on a Note10+ (N975F)
I have been noticing screen off time drain, it is around 1.8% for me. I have tried using greenify, optimizing the settings, battery saving mode etc.
It hasn't really been working for me. Screen off time is really important for me, even more than screen on time.
So i wanted to know, how could I maximize the battery life of my Note10+? Is there like a custom rom you could recommend, like Lineage or dr ketan?
Knox is already tripped bcz of the previous owner, so that is no problem. Or a other custom rom or just with rooting something.
If you know anything, I would appreciate it if you could tell me,
Kind regards,
Crewz
First, you can select apps that you dont require to be always running, to be dormant, look for this option in settings, also you can install galaxy labs, there is a similar option there also, I disabled several apps via CCSWE, that have the undesirable behavior of being always running and accesing internet, such as facebook, chrome, youtube, operator apps, etc, also, with CCSWE you can deprive apps of certain undesired services that eat batt, this a process that takes some time, as you use the device, you can obseve and decide what to disable, to uninstall, or control via ccswe, I have my note 10+ since Sept 6 2019 and the battery lasts thru the whole day, I get some 7 hrs SOT on normal std use, when I play intensive games,, that is another diferent thing

Hey thank you for taking the time to help me. I have tried what you said, I went into settings and I went through my apps and selected those that don't need to run in the background. I also downloaded CCSWE from the playstore, i saw like 500 applications, but only disable or clear data from the application.
Are there any other device settings you recommend changing?
Thanks for your time.
Decide if you want to root it, if so you'll have many more options and tools to work with.
Otherwise get PD MDM to block apks from running at boot and disable them.
Use Samsung Device Manager and set to Optimized in main window. Toggle on fast charging but don't enable any other off the top 3 dot menu. You can then disable that app too. 3rd party power management apps including Samsung's can screw it up. Cloud apps, Goggle Backup Transport/Backup Framework are big offenders on my stock 10+
Disable Google, Samsung and any carrier feedback.
To hell with Bixby except Bixby Vision/Vision Framework which are needed by the cam for full functionality.
Play with it.

Hey thanks for your reply. I would want to root it, I am not sure how. I have owned a oneplus 7 pro where it was much easier to do.
If I would root, what other options and tools could I use?
Also, I did those settings things from the battery, thank you.
Not sure what you mean with Google / Samsung feedback.
For bixby I disabled almost everything except vision and routines.

Don't disable Bixby Framework either.
The feedback options are buried in settings, you'll run into them.
I'm not rooted so I don't spend much time looking at what I could do. You do have real time cpu/power usage capabilities with it for weeding out the hogs... for one thing.

Hmmm, can't really find those feedback options. I will enable the framework again.
I guess I will root when it is really needed to. First let's see what I can do without.

In the Goggle and Samsung account settings.
If it's a carrier phone one of the advanced network settings. Carrier phone; disable remote support, updates (unless you want an update), and all their software.
Keep Samsung account and apps related to Galaxy Store/Themes as you want to be able to download themes, icon packs and apps from there.
Excellent free icon packs... and the Good Lock family of apps.

Should be about 1% when sleeping with AOD on.
Keep the AOD to a bare minimum though ie just a clock no images.

Galaxy labs, Battery Tracker is useful.
See if Google Backup Transport or Framework are the culprits. If already package blocked clear their data and the data on Goggle Play Services ie gms.
It can be hard to ferret out as many apks simply are thrown together under Android Services.
Worse some Google apps falsely show under Transport etc even when its blocked. That why you clear the data of gms.
Use the factory load of Samsung Device Manager to globally clean caches. Reboots seldom help.
Turn off location, bt and wifi if not using.
Do not let Playstore run or Samsung updates unless your using them.
When running clean its ide current with screen on is typically in the 100-200 ma range. A few lower and higher. If you're getting a lot of spikes 400 ma and above at idle something is using a lot of the cpu resources...

So I installed Galaxy Labs and Battery Tracker.
I noticed that Google Foto's was on top with 7.1%.
Followed was whatsapp with 6.3%
And google play service was 3.78%
I haven't seen Google Backup Transport in the list.
Would there be like a way to turn off location automaticly when I am not using it, for example that it would only turn on for google maps or something?
Thanks for your time!

Alright i'll see how that goes. Also, I got myself the original wireless charger from samsung today.
Would it be okay if I just putted it down on it whenever I am at my desk? I mean battery wize.
