Anyone found a recovery.img yet? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I've been searching for one with no luck, I've tried unpacking the boot.img and can't find one in there, if I'm not mistaken, that's where it was on the OG Pixel phones, never owned one though so not too sure.

Have you looked in the factory restore package? It's typically a separate file.

Stock flashable zip usb broken

Hello guys, i have a problem with my nexus 5X: the type-c port doesn't work anymore for pc transfers (i tried with 3 different cables and 2 PCs), i guess that only the data rail is gone because the charging still works.
My problem is that i don't have the stock rom and i need it to send it back for warranty so i'd like to ask if someone can give me a link to flash the stock rom (and recovery!!) to flash everything through twrp and if it is possible.
Thanks, Luca

What you're asking for only exists in one place.
https://developers.google.com/android/images
Your main option is to download the latest factory image. Unzip the archive so that you have the system, boot, and vendor images available. Boot into TWRP 3.0+ and do a factory reset then select Install/Install image to flash those three images individually. Bootloader and radio cannot be installed in this manner.
Your alternative is to use the Google stock Full OTA images:
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Then use Flashfire to install this image:

Yes it can. Btw, stock recovery will replace TWRP on reboot if you flash Nougat images for boot, system, and vendor in TWRP.

Pixel XL 8.1 Developer Preview Stock Recovery Image

Where can I find this, exactly? I looked through the 8.1 image, and while I found the boot.img file, there is no recovery file anywhere inside it.
Can anybody help me find this please?

Phone stuck at boot animation after flashing factory image

Hi guys,
Today I've decided to update my Nexus 5x to the last Oreo official update.
I've flashed with fastboot the last factory image, and the modified "boot.img" for 4 cores (to avoid bootloop).
The phone booted but it's stuck at the spinning circles animation for almost an hour right now and I don't understand what I did wrong.
Before the flashing, I was running an old version of Pixel Rom (based on nougat)
I haven't used the 4 core boot.img but I do remember it was updated whenever a new image came out. You might check the thread for the 4 core boot.img to make sure you're using the one for the image you flashed.

I'm pretty sure that I've flashed the right boot.img for the factory image I've installed ..
Should I try wiping everything and re-flashing the factory image? How do I do it?
Use the flash-all batch file in the extracted factory image. That will wipe the device and flash all the partitions.

I did that half an hour ago but the phone is still stuck at the boot animation .. Should I try flashing twrp and an unofficial rom based on 8.1? Which is the best rom for the phone at the moment?
Here's what I would try, keep in mind I don't have the boot issue on my 5x so haven't had to face this problem. You may have already done this, but:
Flash each partition of the factory image separately with fastboot.
Then boot into the recovery provided with the 4 core image files, fastboot boot recovery.img (recovery.img is the full name of the recovery.
Copy the 4 core image file to your device while booted in to recovery. I'm assuming the recovery image is a modified version of twrp.
Then flash the boot image file in twrp
Cross your fingers and boot into system. Note that you'll still have the stock recovery (you haven't flashed it yet)
Indeed, the previous post summarizes the correct procedure.
Be sure to grab all the files (factory image, boot image, recovery image) for the last distribution from this post, and follow the previous post.
Flash factory image with flash-all, reboot (should be boot looping, so go to the bootloader), flash boot, flash recovery, wipe cache (not needed, but preferable), reboot and enjoy.
That did the trick for me just yesterday, while I had a similar problem to yours, where I tried flashing the boot image, and the phone was simply showing the animated android dots for hours. I'm not sure which step I missed, but this fixed it immediately (I did not wipe the cache).
Good luck.

I have something to say.. so like.. I tried to put many (ROMS) on my phone (Nexus 5X) right? found out lots of things.. I've bricked my phone, I've currently got a "your phone is currupted, blah blah blah" after I just installed android 6.0.1 very funny, cause it works almost fine... till it just keeps going to the boot animation, and starts... lolll I'm learning.. ill figure it out... just letting you know google.. has currupted (OTA Updates) LMAO, the latest one from them is fine, I'm probably gonna get AEX ROM though after, if I can get it to work (Edit.. like 5 mins later) I'm now flashing android 8.0.1 to install AEX.. I knew I was but didn't know when I was going to...

Unlocked for a whole , what, 3 hours , and you brick already.
Sorry had to do that.
I don't have mate , but 7x the roms are supposedly basically the same. At least the 7x custom roms work on se.
I have boot image uploaded , along with the the rest of the partitions , as separate files. On Android file host. You can. Try to use that.
As far as mate back up I have found one, but it is whole backup.

Thanks, I actually found a boot.img for a 7x that I fastboot flashed but it didn't help. I am downloading a Full TWRP backup for the Mate SE that I found but my internet at my GFs is real slow so gonna take a couple hours. I'll update.
What Roms for 7x work on SE? Maybe I will just flash one of those? My phone wasn't on Oreo so I don't imagine an Oreo ROM working,
Oh and I bricked by flashing Magisk and no-verify 4.1. I knew I shouldve stayed away from Magisk and just flashed SuperSU

Ok. SO after I unlocked my bootloader I flashes TWRP 3.1.1-0. I can't find 3.1.1-1 for the 7x even tho that is the one ppl say to use since it supports decrypt.
Then I flashed the latest Magisk and no-verity 4.1. When my system didn't boot I tried n-verity 6.0 then 5.1 as I thought I was using the wrong version but it didn't help.
I did try flashing the uninstaller for Magisk but it fails to flash. Can't find /Vender it says. Honestly I should've just flashed SuperSU.

i bricked mine within a day, same reason: magisk + no-verify. Can't say for sure why, I installed magisk ok, no-verify had zip error, but installed anyway, then I wiped caches. result = no boot. Maybe I shouldn't have wiped?
I was able to recover using someone else's backup imgs and part of the process here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/how-to-to-stock-emui-5-0-flashing-twrp-t3679985
I used fastboot to flash the system and boot imgs and used twrp to flash the vendor img. I think that was the trick, just using fastboot to flash the vendor resulted in the black screen with nav controls only.

ID10T Error - NEED HELP!

So I messed up my Pixel 3 XL. When trying to root, I flashed TWRP on the device and it gave all kinds of problems. I could not boot at all.
I then flashed what I thought to be stock boot.img. Now it boots (only while unlocked) and takes me to the welcome screen. It boots with no issues but now the touchscreen doesn't work.
I've tried to revert back to stock many, many times using the guide here & factory image. All is successful except the boot.img - says FAILED.
I suspect that I need to flash boot.img again but no clue how....
Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can't flash a binary. They're there to build custom roms. I always ask because so many people miss this, but do you have the latest sdk platform tools, r28?

... slow down and read more. double check the basics... and for God's sake stop re-locking the bootloader! Leave it unlocked or you may very easily brick your device. ONLY re-lock the bootloader when you know exactly what you are doing and have a good reason to do so. With your bootloader unlocked, plenty of folks here can help you and there will always be a way out. :good:

You may need to re setup fastboot and adb again. I would delete all files that you have and then setup with a new install.
Use the tool to have it setup adb for you so that it is up to date.

Once you get adb set up again go to google firmware: https://developers.google.com/android/images
download and extract the file and then open the file. Extract image file. Open the image file and drag boot.img to your fastboot folder.
Run both commands in fastboot:
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
Then this should start up your phone as it will wipe out twrp. Hope this works for you.

On it and no I have no sim in it currently. The only step I haven't done in that article is the boot to safe mode. Those instructions def dont take me to Pixel 3xl safe mode. I tried to boot in safe in recovery but there isn't an option. I don't believe it can be a 3rd party as I have wiped it in recovery multiple times.
