Unlockable Bootloader? - Razer Phone Questions & Answers

Anyone hear anything on this yet?

Haha you have been a little bit faster than me xD Would have been my question as well, are there any information about this?

Razer already stated it would be an unlocked bootloader. Can't find video but it's mentioned in one of the first hands on

Uhhh these are great news! Would be nice if they had a similar warranty policy concerning this as OnePlus...

To me, that sounds more like that it is going to be unlockable but it won't shipped unlocked.

I saw somewhere the bootloader can be unlocked via the developer options menu? iirc In a menu though..

It ships _carrier unlocked_ (sim).
Bootloader is unlocked by the user in dev options on the phone, should the user so choose to do so. Voids the warranty.
Rooting the phone is up to the user, but also voids the warranty, as the reply in the image says.

There will maybe a option to enable unlocking the bootloader.
This will not unlock the bootloader, it will only enable the command to unlock it I think.
Like on the oneplus.

If you live in the EU, unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone - wont void the warranty, if you have a hardware related fault.

I do find the EU has better consumer protection than the US.
What companies can do here while taking your money? Uh ya, that's one reason I bet the USA is becoming a big laughing stock of the world.

YMMV But from what I've seen with a few other companies, if the repair is hardware related and not software they almost never actually care if its bootloader locked or not. Can't say Razer/Nextbit would be the same though.

Ya I've not dealt with razer for the laptops. I know for my mouse and keyboard record, they're good on responding, synapse updates happen fast enough to almost be annoying, hardware seems decent, though about 20% fails after the first year. (though I found out later the mouse doesn't actually fail, it's electric "char" that builds up on the metal switch internally because it's so thin)
Got the phone otw though, pretty excited. Can't wait for the analytics to start trickling in to see what we can do with this beast.

I have one already. It works. Just tried it. Bootloader unlocked.

Sweet! Thanks for uploading this.
Now if we can figure out how to root it while we wait for a TWRP Port.
Looks like all we need is a copy of the boot.img. Then we can patch it using Magisk.

That's not how you unlock the bootloader, that setting is part of the process and enables the ability for you to unlock the bootloader via fastboot.
I've made a thread on how to unlock the bootloader and linked it below

You would not be able to select that option if the bootloader was unable to be unlocked. It unlocks the first key. If that key is unlocked, then fastboot oem unlock bootloader can work. So it is valid proof that it's unlockable.

Right, I didn't dispute that but he said "Bootloader unlocked" which at that point, it was not. If it was, that setting would be greyed out and it would say "Bootloader is already unlocked"

The three questions I asked when the phone was announced, and finally weeks later they are answered

From website:
It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty. Please note that unlocking your bootloader does not mean that you will be able to unlock the SIM lock. Unlocking your SIM lock is at the discretion of your operator/carrier and is not part of the bootloader unlocking scope.
Our devices have been designed with our hardware and software specifications in mind and unlocking the bootloader will change the software and may cause unexpected side effects. It is impossible for HTC to ensure the proper functioning of your device after this. In the worst case scenario, it is possible that your device may be physically damaged due to overheating or the behavior of your device might be altered including, but not limited to, hearing aid compatibility (HAC) and specific absorption rate (SAR) values.
Some content on your device may also be invalidated and cannot be accessed any more because of invalid DRM security keys. This includes content that you may have purchased through a 3rd party vendor and through HTC. Furthermore, although you will still be able to receive updates to your device via FOTA (“firmware over the air”), we do not guarantee that updating your device via FOTA will not render your device unusable. Please understand that you will not be able to return your device to the original state and going forward your device may not be held covered under the warranty for all claims resulting from the unlocking of the bootloader. HTC bears no responsibility if your device is no longer usable afterwards.
HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, due to some of our carrier customers concerns, certain models with specific restrictions may not be able to be unlocked. Please refer to our list of supported devices to see if your device is eligible for unlocking the bootloader.
We strongly suggest that you do not unlock the bootloader unless you are confident that you understand the risks involved. This is a technical procedure and the side effects could possibly necessitate repairs to your device not covered under warranty. If you are still interested in unlocking the bootloader, and you understand the consequences both to your device and to your warranty, then you may refer to the following pages where we have provided the unlocking instructions.

This looks like it only for the China Telecom version. HTC will only unlock devices with carrier approval. I haven't tested (already S-Off), but I don't believe it will work for the US version.

It's all good, you should NEVER rush anything with root. You most likely skipped over the part that if it did work, there is no way to reverse it, AND since they now know you are rooted, warranties are voided, and they can probably know when you are stealing wireless tether.
Not too mention, we got root, awhile ago.
And if its anything like the htc evo3d unlock its not really a true unlock. I know some of the evo guys that went the official route could not even flash kernels. Just my two cents but i would use revolutionary or xtc clip

yea it isn't a full nand lock like say the XTC clip, the sim is still locked.
Yes that's what I thought. You willingly void your warranty and you don't even get the full advantages. If I wasn't rooted and my phone came with 2.3.4 I would wait on an exploit or use a clip. But to each his own I guess

It's Offical below:
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

Only sim unlocked phones can use the sony bootloader unlock service, you will have to pay one of the people here for a remote unlock if you want sim/bootloader unlocked.
Thank you.
Just a nother quick question...
since i have a 4G AT&T xperia play i can acctually unloack the bootloader and by re-flashing the ROM actually preform a SIM unlocking like it discribed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034371
????
will this work on my AT&T 4G device ?

I'm gonna use Alejandrissimo in the general forum to unlock my phone tonight...
ok ... so just to make sure i got it right:
1. i need to first unlock my sim
2. i will be able than to unlock the bootloader

[astralmaze05]: ok i understand, if i sim unlock it using the online unlocking services will it also unlock my bootloader automatically?
[Logseman]: No. However, the contrary is true: if you pay to unlock your bootloader your Sim lock will vanish as well.

Here you see that it was said that unlocking the SIM doesn't mean that you can unlock the bootload...
any response ?
I insist: unlocking your sim won't unlock your bootloader, you will have to unlock it separately.
However, unlocking the bootloader automatically sim-unlocks the phone.
Thus, save yourself the grief, contact any of the unlockers mentioned in the thread of my signature, and just unlock the bootloader.
I will since i'm seeing it getting more complex then i wanted.
but still i want just to understand if unlocking your sim won't unlock the bootloader but, after the sim is unloacked then i could use the bootload unloacker online from sony, no?
No, you can't. The official Sony bootloader unlocking method is only valid for phones which were sold originally Sim-unlocked. Sim-unlocking an originally Sim locked phone will not make you eligible for the Sony bootloader unlocking method, so you would have to use Alejandrissimo's bootloader unlock method anyway.
Thank you ! now i got it!
i hope this thread will be a good use for others as well.

Different bands is only difference afaik, but it is enough. ROMs are not compatible out of the box, and if ROM contains baseband, it screws up the frequencies. And if someone announces new update, it is only for X720 OR X727, not both.
Has anyone else noticed any differences in the camera picture quality at all? I used mine for Xmas pics and got a lot of mixed results but most of the indoor shots came out pretty bad on default automatic modes.

This is already a twrp flashable zip. However, it will work only if you have a unmodified system.
Can somebody confirm/reject the assertion that 20s can still be unlocked? If it cannot, does anybody know how to cancel the update? My phone is telling me that it'll update if I reboot it...I haven't rebooted it specifically to avoid the update, but "never reboot your phone" isn't a very good long-term strategy in my opinion.

Return to stock issue - "bootloader is already unlocked"

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to re-lock my bootloader but the OEM Unlock toggle is stuck to the left position whilst displaying the message "Bootloader is already unlocked".
If I try to switch the toggle to the right position, the device will factory reset and then when it powers back up, the toggle is in the left position again.
Is this a result of knox being tripped?
In DL mode it displays both FRP and OEM lock as OFF.
Thanks for the help!

So, the bootloader is unlocked, have you guys tried flashing the Odin files with a newer revision of the bootloader?
Thanks for your answer! I have tried to update it, to make a downgrade, to wait 7 days ... and nothing, everything remains the same. The bootloader is binary 6, and the only move I have been able to do with odin is update and donwgrade in the July and August updates. Maybe if Samsung updates the bootloader to binary 7, it will be solved, it is honestly the only thing left for me to try.

Question bootloader on android 12

hi. i got interested in this phone and seems to have decent rom support. since the last update i have some doubts with unlocking bootloader:
first, people is panicking this update broke many things, and users are not sure bootloader is unlockable anymore. this is a must for me, please confirm me if that got ruined for this update or still works.
second, people also mentions about a code and i'm confused. the pinned guide says is as simple as one command, but users report they are being requested an special code the phone gives you. chow does this work? if i want to get the phone from a previous owner would it mean i can't access that code? what oneplus asks for exactly?
thanks for your time
I don't know what code you are talking about. Just follow the guide, be sure what you are doing and be sure how to get things right if something is going south.

I couldn't tell you all the OEM's that wouldn't allow unlocking, I think T-Mobile in the US is one but mine (from Three UK) isn't limited in that way.
If you reboot to bootloader and run "fastboot oem unlock" after enabling that setting above and it fails then your bootloader is locked by oem

Generally, if the phone is SIM-locked the "OEM Unlocking" will be greyed-out and you can't toggle it until you SIM-unlock your phone.
On T-Mobile, for example, once you SIM-unlock the phone, you run a command in Fastboot to get your phones unlock code.
Once you have your bootloader's unlock code, you submit a request on OnePlus' Unlock Token page.
Devices bought directly from OnePlus should be unlockable out of the box.
Hope this helps!

hi. i got interested in this phone and seems to have decent rom support. since the last update i have some doubts with unlocking bootloader:
first, people is panicking this update broke many things, and users are not sure bootloader is unlockable anymore. this is a must for me, please confirm me if that got ruined for this update or still works.
second, people also mentions about a code and i'm confused. the pinned guide says is as simple as one command, but users report they are being requested an special code the phone gives you. chow does this work? if i want to get the phone from a previous owner would it mean i can't access that code? what oneplus asks for exactly?
thanks for your time
