Motherboard replacement - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I will explain as fast as possible : I have 2 OnePlus 3. One with a freeze problem (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/strange-issue-op3-t3699715=) and the second one with damaged screen but everthing working. So what if I put the motherboard of the broken screen one in the model with the freeze problem. Do you think it can works ?
Thx for reading ! And sorry for the english.

Watch JerryRigEverything teardown videos and try it and keep us updated I'm curious of the result. It'll probably work because basically what you're going to do is changing the broken screen with a solid one. (Changing motherboard will be about the same i think.)

Yup, this has to work.

Okay thanks guys ! I will keep you up to date.

It has to work but when I tried to separate the screen Bloc with the metal case it was very very hard, I used too much power and broken the screen... That was crazy.
But I have to work.

So, what did you do in the end? buy a new phone? I saw the jerryrigeverything teardown..he did it with such ease.. I was hoping it would be the same for me.

I watched his video too, for me it was a LOT more resistant.
And finally I bought another phone (still OP3) and I'm still using it.
I tried to open the old phone again and I managed to do it using the jack connector, I used a screwdriver and levered in the jack connector (and the jack connector is still working).

Necropost! C'mon really? I'm closing this.

Need help with Defy.

Okay, so I really need help with my Defy. A few days ago, when I was washing my Defy(yes I wash it), the usb covering came out and a little water went into the usb port. It was fine for an hour or two, but then the phone went into landscape mode and refused to budge. I was on CM7 and thought that there must be something wrong with it so I switched to the official Froyo. The problem was a bit better on Froyo but it remained as irritating. Now, when I press the home button, it takes me to the dock app. Also, whenever a call comes, it automatically puts it into speaker mode as if it was connected to the docking station.
Is there anyway in which I can possibly fix this? I really need help. :/
It's waterproof , but not up to that standard.....you might need to dry the parts before using it again.....
Try using a hairdryer
Herpderp Defy.

Did that quite a few times.
I think the usb area got affected the megnetic sensor for the docking which you're experiencing now.. I must be from the water penetration. Have you tried to uninstall the dock apk and see..

Obvious troll is obvious.
Okay, I installed CM7 for now. How do I go about fixing it from landscape mode?
I don't know if this has something to do with your problem, but have you tried recalibrating the compass?

Thanks but it did not work. I think that there's something wrong with the default orientation. Can you calibrate/reset that?

I think you should remove or uninstall the home dock apk as the magnet always triggered forcing your phone into lanscape.

There is no dock app on CM9. The phone is just stuck on landscape. It's the same thing with CM7.
Maybe this app can help you.
Although I would suggest you to disassemble the phone as much as you can and put the entire unit in tight raw rice container.
Next day, put it in the sun. (Just to make sure that there is no chance of water inside.)
P.S. : don't you have warranty left

Um, I want my phone to auto rotate again so that app isn't much help, but thanks anyway.
About the rice and sun trick, I did that yesterday but nothing came of it.
Also, I do have warranty left but I don't trust Motorola with my phone. Well, that's saying something but anyway. I'd like to give it a try and see if it's fixable at home but I may just be forced to give it in. Oh well.
Guys, reply please. :/

Have you checked which rotation options are selected at cm7 screen preferences?

Okay, so basically I've narrowed down the problem. It's something with the magnetic sensor as the phone thinks it's connected to a dock. I know this because whenever a call comes, it goes to speaker and the orientation is stuck on landscape like on a dock. Now, there is NO dock app on CM7/CM9, so is there anyway by which I can calibrate the magnetic sensor or is there any other fix?
Bump, really need help here.

Sounds like your ph is fubar ^^
You could just tell everyone it's a small tablet ;-)
& never wash your ph again :zoinks:
Okay, I've managed to fix most of the problem by uninstalling the dock app and the dock service on MS2Ginger. However, calls still get directed to speaker. Is there any way in which I can fix it? Also, I need a more permanent solution to this if possible. Thanks.

[Q] Opened phone, now my soft keys don't work

This phone isn't my daily driver and I got a skyrocket on Ebay but it came without volume buttons. Being an idiot, I figured same phone same part....not the case. Long story short, My phone turned back on after putting it back together and my touch screen works but none of my soft keys work and they won't light up. Phone is running stock, non rooted.
the hell did I do? Did I break something or did I just knock a cable loose? Should I be checking for anything specifically?
Thanks in advance.

All the ribbons seem to be plugged in. I think I broke it, but how?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! I'm not really worried, i'll just throw it on Ebay; I just don't know what I did wrong. Well, I opened the phone, I know I shouldn't have done that. Any idea on what ribbon cable I should be looking at specifically?

Make sure the ribbon cable isn't torn.
The attached image should help.
Also, Each carrier specific phone will normally have different hardware inside.

it's the Sprint variant.
Edit: I tore the cable, didn't even realize it until you posted that picture. Wow, I really shot myself in the foot here. How difficult is it to replace?
thanks for the info.

A whole new screen assembly is needed... It is very hard to replace just the soft keys. A heat plate or heat gun is required to separate the glass from the screen to get to them. Much easier to just get a whole new screen/digitizer assembly.

Sell it in separate parts. The mobo and battery will pull the most money. Don't even bother to keep the screen on it. That will lower your total price to maybe $75 at the most. You can easily pull that on just the motherboard alone. the battery can probably be sold for 10 or 15. and the other stuff will vary as well.

[Q] Unglued cable digitizer Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Hello!
I just finish to "unglued" my digitizer cable on my note 2 ,
Please, just take a look at the picture, maybe can I do something to put it back.
Look like unglued..have you any idea if that flex cable it's glued or soldered ?
Thank you very much.
Wow.. I just did the exact same thing yesterday.. same spot on the cable and everything. I did it when I was replacing the glass.. I've tried taping it back.. and now I've tried gluing it , the touch kinda works but really inconsistent and annoying. I've spent way too much time trying to fix it and think I'm just gonna sell as parts now. What did you end up doing? Any luck getting it reattached? If you were successful please let me know what you did.

For me, was no way to put back this flex cable... and I think its close to impossible to make something good with this display.
I just stored that display ....for don't throw it.
Good luck!
this is a usual ribbon cable. i teared mine replacing the screen... will try to replace it and report back.
maybe it will require light smd oven soldering and that will suck big time. maybe i can just pressure it down somehow. your cases are much better, you still have the original cable and half of it is already soldered making it much easier to solder the rest.

thats not the same part, the part u listed on ebay is for the stylus. U can easily tell its not the same part as shown in the original post. Check out this youtube video at the 20:50 minute mark, it will show u the exact parts and u can tell. Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxgZeb5QytM
Unfortunatly the part the original poster pictured is part of the digitizer and is near impossible to fix once ripped. all ive been able to find online is that ribbon cable being sold with the digitizer itself. If anyone else actually finds the part shown in the original post please do post back.

[Q]What went wrong?

I have a huge problem, basically I was sick and tired of my black housing for the phone, so I ordered the white one from ebay. I was so happy it came that I forgot to shut down the phone, well during half way of the work, while I was trying to pry it open I remembered and turned it on and it worked I opened it a bit more open and it suddenly went black and since then everything is working except the LCD.
I have no idea whats the problem is the LCD broke or what?
Also when it shut down and me trying to reconnect the LCD flat cable to see if thats the problem I was nervous and did that which you see in the picture. Now my issue is what if I buy a new screen connect it and it doesn't work because the FPC connector?

The connection pins themselves do not look damaged, on the plastic shroud. The socket should work fine.
It's a little hard to make out fine detail in the pic...take a magnifying glass to it and check for cracks or splits in the pins.

Hmm it seems like it goes one small one then longer one, its hard to see from he picture but I think two of the longer ones are missing. And what should be the problem with the LCD because that happened before I damaged the socket.
Between thank you for the fast reply.

Well I don't see any missing pins, but you'll have a better view.
As for you LCD...no idea. Generally it's a good idea to turn everything off before you open electrical equipment. You could have caused a short in the process of opening it live.

Would that be on the motherboard or the LCD, basically should I bother repairing it or just sell it for spare parts thats my issue right now.

Like I said earlier everything works, I can still receive SMS, phone calls (I can answer them since the digitizer works), e-mails, Facebook msgs, vibrations, sound, microphone... Everything works except the LCD.

You might try replacing the LCD and hope you haven't damaged the connector. If you have, a self-repair is unlikely given its size and that of the pins.
Or you dump it and buy a new phone.
Either way it's gonna cost you money. The first is cheaper but may not work.
I think that's your only options.
Yeah I knew from the start it was gonna cost me money, but I wanted the cheapest way out
Thanks a lot for the help I think I am gonna try to fix it. Get some experience while doing it too
