How's the sound quality? I'm on the wait list, but am starting to have second thoughts. I was sold on the instant translation features, but am starting to think I should look at some more reputable headphones.

I was rocking Jay Birds that are extremely loud and seal your ear cavity and get uncomfortable after an hour of use. Compared to those, not heavy bass but good clean sound, loud enough but no Jay Birds. Solid connection to ear but light comfortable feel. You can hear outside sounds well when nothing is playing. I really like them m

For those of you waiting until December - you can order from verizon right now and get them on 11/29 - https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/google-pixel-buds-ga00205/

Strictly out of curiosity, what do you find 'amazing' about them?

I've had mine for a few days now. They are great! Google translate is so cool.

I have had mine for a days- I was surprised how comfortable they were once I figured out the loop and how good they sound, particularly the Bass. I was not really expecting great sound, but these are some of the best "buds" I have heard, though I normally use over the ear. Translate is really cool too.
I did have trouble getting them paired at first but now they are good

How's the bass with these things? been thinking of getting them but not trying to waste my time if the bass isn't there.

Finally got my shipped notice for mine ordered back on 10/5 (Black).... So, hope to see them Monday !

Had them about a week or so. Dynamic range and clarity are actually pretty decent (low to high); I'm not an audiophile, but I am pretty finicky relative to sound quality.
I have been using Sennheiser in-ear-canal type buds for several years (similar price range to these - $150). I find the Pixel buds comparable for sound quality, except for lack of noise isolation, but knew that going in.
Volume is good, even a bit LOUD at max range. I've read reports that people can hear what's playing on your Pixel Buds, so that might be an issue, say on an airplane.
My only complaint is the too coarse volume adjustment via swiping. Pixel 2 XL provides 25 increments, 0% to 100%. The Pixels buds only provide 7-8 increments. Way too coarse, resulting in a too loud or too soft result. I suspect this might be fixable in software (?). EDIT: I can press the right bud say "75% Volume" (even just "75%" will do it after an initial request), so maybe a good compromise.
My only other complaint is lack of a swipe gesture to switch tracks. I can press the right bud and say "skip" (even softly) to get the desired action, but I would prefer to simply swipe UP or DOWN to get this result. I've read this was the intended function, but might have been confusing for users compared with in-out volume gestures, and was disabled. I do like being able to say, "Thumbs Down" and Play Music will tag that song and skip to the next track.
Comfort for me has been good. The rope between the left and right buds is perfect. I'd surely lose them if not attached!

I dont understand why volume gesture couldnt be made to be up/down and track forward/back be swipe forward/back.

Appears there may be an issue with the Google Assistant not working on the Buds. Several Google forums are having this issue, as well as me. The Buds drop connection after 1-2 minutes and then have to be forgotten from the Pixel XL 2, in my case, then repaired. Once repaired the situation repeats itself. Contacted Google and they've heard of this issue. Supposed possible update comming but looks like they are RMA'ing the Buds. If you haven't used them in a while might want to check it out to see if you are having same issues.

Droid Turbo 2 First Impressions

I've been using the Droid Turbo since the original launch date. I picked up the Turbo 2 this morning on the way to the office. Here are my observations thus far:
Good
Turbo charging is much faster.
The screen quality is great (plastic smchmastic!)
Power and volume buttons are improved.
This puppy is fast!
Android 5.1.1 is snappy.
New Moto tools are nice. I'm fond of "lift for voice."
The form factor is an improvement over the Turbo.
Addition of the SD card is very welcome!
I prefer the soft touch material to the Kevlar or ballistic nylon options on the Turbo.
The camera is surprisingly good and has zero shutter lag. It took some good pictures in low light.
Drum roll please... The volume is excellent!!!
Not so good
Do they have to keep making them bigger?
Did I mention it's bigger?
A fingerprint scanner would have been a welcomed addition.
In case you hadn't noticed, it's bigger.
Silly little Verizon logo on the chin is unnecessary.
I'll update this list throughout the day.
Thank you for posting. I am planning on a trip to Verizon after work to take a look, possibly buying if they have color combos that I like.
My questions, if you have time.
Are the front speakers stereo and how well does it work with the bottom one cut in half?
How is the screen in sunlight?

Any chance you can post a photo/vid of the screens side by side on like min/mid/max brightness?
I have a Maxx, but won the DT2 during the droidseeker disaster yesterday
Sorry. I traded in the Turbo. Congrats on winning one. I got kicked out of the game 5 times with no success.

ah, damn. Would you say its comparable? Heard some questions about the increased "gap" between the front panels and the actual screen underneath.
Re: winning, i got really lucky got booted alllllll day, then around 10 ish i gave it "one last shot" & it just started working perfectly.
So screen ISNT a downgrade despite 500 layers of materials? Did you have a chance to put the Turbo and Turbo-2 side by side to compare? Thats one thing definitely concerning me.
Also, I assume the speakers, despite 2 grills, are NOT stereo, right? Can you confirm that? glad to hear volume is improved.

I can't speak to being stereo, or not. The sound is very good. The screen is much easier to read in daylight than my Droid Turbo.

Perhaps, but I can't find fault with it. Probably more black around the screen then some of the newer slimmer phones.

I've read reviews that say only the right portion of the bottom speaker bit is actually used for music/speakerphone. No idea if they knew what they were talking about though. Could the bit to the left just be for looks?

No, as far as I am concerned the screen quality is at least equal.
Yeah I'd say the negatives pretty much come down to:
1. Big
2. No fingerprint scanner yet
3. Screen size is not as big as it could be, verizon logo, lost some of the aesthetic appeal since the Moto X
Fwiw I looked at four different T2s and every screen was dark and dingy compared to my Pure with full brightness on all of them.

At the Verizon store last night. Thanks to a non-motivated sales person I did not leave with one, but I got mine ordered on Moto-maker under contract.
The screen was fine for me holding it next to a HTC One M7. I may be more forgiving than others so a personal inspection is a real good idea.
This may just be me but I was kind of expecting stereo speaker output and this is not the case. Youtube played from the lower speaker area on the demo units at Verizon.
Edit: On a side note, does Motomaker normally ship in less than 24 hours? I put in my order at 10pm and this morning Verizon sent me tracking info. That seems a bit fast...I hope they get my order right.
I overheard a sales person saying that they give you a code to follow up with Moto directly. No idea if this is true. Probably a lot of confusion with a new program.

I put a motomaker order in at about 9pm last night, by 1030, it was "being built." I could see it shipping in 24 hours based on this. I seem to remember hearing motomaker would be 1-2 days to build.
Against my principle of waiting for it to have android 6 (so I have no right to complain if it takes forever to get marshmallow... I knew better Lol), I picked up a turbo 2 today.
So far I like it a lot. I was worried about the screen being too detached with all of the layers, and while it does seem farther away than on my note 5, it isn't a big deal to me.
No fingerprint scanner isn't a big deal to me since I have a moto 360, and use it as a trusted device.

Picked up a dt2 today. Traded in my old lg g2. Loved my droid maxx and still have it as a backup phone. So far I'm really liking this phone. Screen is bright and ui seems fast. Camera is OK but I've seen better. Fp scanner would have been nice but not a have to for me right now. Under development option there's a unlock oem bootloader toggle. Not sure what's that about. It can't be that easy. Yeah the split grills at bottom are not too attractive but hey who really looks at your phone but you. It's not that big a deal to me. Sound is pretty good. Overall I'm happy.
So been away from XDA for a while but just picked up my Droid Turbo 2 and loving it so far... Nice solid build quality, solid reception, Ballistic material has a nice feel, cameras are typical moto in my opinion but good enough for my use... the front flash for the times when the gf wants a selfie is going to be a big plus... overall very pleased so far... looking forward to more time with this device....
Also OEM (bootloader unlocking) has a toggle under developer options so maybe it wont be so locked down...
Just ordered my Turbo2.
Considering I was able to get the trade-in promo of $300 value for my existing Turbo, and use account upgrade on the new Turbo2, I'm actually coming out ahead. Wow.
Awesomeness.

Pixel 2 XL Users impressions (Retail version)

Hi
I am still debating to buy Pixel 2 XL or wait for another flagship.
Since some of the lucky people received it already. Can you share your first impressions of the phone.
Thanks
I have to be honest. I am a little disappointed in the 2 XL I just received. There is nothing I don't like about the phone. Its a very good phone. However, other than speed, it's pretty much identical to the Nexus 6 running Oreo that I replaced. Not sure why I expected anything revolutionary to be honest. I guess that's the state of phones today. Much like computers.

Well first impressions were great, loved the look and feel over my old 6p, faster and I like the less saturated screen. Then today my first full day with the phone the I noticed that OK Google wasn't working and then I placed a test call and no one could hear me. Turns out after doing 2 factory resets that my microphone broke. Project Fi Support was pretty good and will be sending me out a new phone tomorrow but that means I won't have it in hand till middle of next week. Hope this isn't a sign of the build quality of this phone.

Hola
While we can look at the spec sheet and see the dimensions of the phone, my question is how much wider or narrower is the Pixel 2 XL compared to the 6P. My 6P died a few weeks ago from the dreaded bootloop issue and I won't be receiving my XL 2 until mid-November
I want to get a sense of how much does it compare in terms of holding it snuggly in the palm of your hand. The 6P is a wide enough phone as it is, plus adding a thin case increases it width even more...
Thanks mate.
I've had mine for a full day now, and I love it! It's incredibly fast, everything opens without lag. The screen is great (don't let the naysayers fool you). The fingerprint scanner works very well, although I had to delete it and do it a second time cause it wasn't working great at first. No problems now. The notifications are much better, the always on is awesome. I could go on and on. Love it.

Its about the same width as the 6p, it feels lighter and is thinner. The black pixel xl 2 I have has a nice texture on the back more grippy than the back of the 6P.

They're definitely loud. I had the HTC One M7 and M8, and the pixel's speakers are louder for sure. I haven't had a chance to really listen for sound quality though. I can't seem to find a quiet place at the right time. I'll try tonight though and reply back.

Speaker issues/low quality

Greetings, sorry if this is redundant thread but I feel maybe this would get buried under the RL reviews. I have seen this behavior on 4 Pixel 2 XL's so far, one being mine, one being my friends and the two other's being from Verizon and Best Buy displays. Rather than explain here is a small video, excuse the mediocre quality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7FoxEZjgi0&feature=youtu.be . Not sure if it's a case of small poor quality speakers and the volume is set too loud and will be lowered in a future software update? I'm wondering if speakers are just trash in general and it's either put up with it or return it? Or the slight possibility of a bad batch of devices? Or just some freak luck to see 4 units exhibiting the same exact symptoms. Video and music playback do have the same issue at louder volumes, just not to that extent with using the speakerphone with voice calls. Has anyone else noticed this on their new devices? Thanks for your input.
Based on what i tried at verizon and comparing to my iphone 7+ its not good. Not that loud and lack of bass

Yes, that's exactly what was going on to all four of the devices that I have listened to. My device, my friends device and two demo devices from Best Buy and the Verizon store. It seems to be most noticeable when making calls on speakerphone as was indicated in the video I posted. Music/videos it's still there but not as bad cause possibly the max volume isn't as loud vs a voice call. I'm guessing the speakers are too small and Google set the max volume way too high for what the speakers are capable of. Or could be something else I'm not aware of . Either way for $1k it's pretty sad.
Edit: Decided to get a replacement from Google. Hopefully the next unit isn't as bad.
Supposedly the corners of the screen are adhered to the rest of the phone using some kind of foam backers (look up the ifixit breakdown on this device). Because it's not a 'glue" and closer to a foam, this is apparently what is causing the perceived "buzzy" sound when the volume is too loud.
I will say I was watching videos on youtube last night while my phone was sitting on my dining room table, and it sounded crisp and clear even at 75% loudness. I did not notice any buzzing vibrations going through the display or the phone from the speakers.
Im curious if you hear more noise when pluged in for charging. This was issue when we had nexus 6 with stereo speaker.

I noticed this on 3 different Pixel 2 XLs as well. Does your replacement have it?
Mine does this as well. I'm pretty sure every one of them does. I called Google support last night and of course the tech was either playing dumb or hadn't heard of this but I really can't see how they don't know this is an issue.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I've noticed about 50% and higher and with high pitched tones on the bottom speaker of my pixel 2 xl gets like a weird vibration or rattle sound. Like something is loose or the speaker is rattling the screen.
I've been listening to mine with music full blast and no issues. Don't alter the sound with the equaliser and it's great. Bottom speaker is louder than the top, but no issues like these on mine.
I just got my 2nd RMA. All of the phones, including the original one, have exhibited the buzzing/vibration from the bottom firing speaker that you all speak of. There is a large thread that confirms this from pretty much everyone. It's very obvious at volume levels of about 80% or higher on my current device. I'm also starting to wonder if the earpiece is crappy too. I just made several rounds of calls and during each call, I could pick up a buzz during low pitched feedback from the other end.
Here is the other thread that covers this exactly. https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/speaker-rattle-distortion-t3699373

It's not noticeable when playing music, especially if it's something that's fast paced. Instead, watch a YT video with dialogue, i.e. Linus Tech Tips, at full volume. You'll hear it then.

Yup, I'm still on my original XL 2 cause there was dirt/dead pixels on my 2nd device. After hearing people don't have the issue on the speakers (which I find hard to believe). I would like to see someone without the issue supposedly doing a speakerphone call above 40% volume to show there's no distortion. So I have my third one coming and I'm pretty sure I'll end up keeping my original. I have zero confidence that I'll get a better or equal screen (w/o dead pixels or black debris particles under the glass). Makes you really think that LG has piss poor QC since the glass is generally fused in OLED displays so you would imagine they would be producing in a sterile environment.
Got one in the mail today and it sounds way better on speakerphone calls. Still has a little of the distortion at 100% volume but it's very minuscule compared to before. Manufacture date of 11/21/17.

Front speaker rattle/distortion

Does anybody else notice when watching videos, particularly, with people talking, that the bottom speaker rattles and distorts at higher volumes >50%?
I filed a RMA replacement for this very reason. My new device is shipped out today.

Do you think they'll do some kind of update like lower the overall volume to mask this? I've looked on reddit and a lot of other people are having the same issue.
I decided after posting here that it was bad enough that I would roll the dice on an RMA replacement as well. Anything above around 50% just sounds like crap and the entire glass surface kinda buzzes in your hand. I don't see that being fixed in software...

Let me know how your RMA device ends up. I was thinking that this could be due to the fact that the bottom speaker is louder than the top and that making them even would alleviate the problem?
Exact same issue. Also hope to hear how goes from those that RMA. I too notice it most with voices like the Google Assistant vs wider soudscape in music or video.
My speakers have very minor distortion on the highest volume, but any lower and there's none. Honestly the highest volume is much too loud for me anyway. These are the loudest speakers I've ever heard on a phone. They're just about as loud as my laptop.
No point in doing a RMA for this "issue" the volume is too high for the speakers. That or it's unbalanced, It's especially prevalent when you're making a call via speaker phone and ALL the volume is going through the bottom speaker. Both my friends units have it, I've been to three different Verizon stores and they all have it and same with the Best Buy units. Google will most likely lower the overall volume or correct the balance in a software update.
Shake, Rattle, and Roll.

I had the same complaint. RMA unit (that was brand new) also had the rattling. Annoying. Every tech I chat with has not heard of this problem but it is covered in the Pixel product forums and here. I'm RMA'ing this one as well for the hellofit .. and because I just love re-setting up the phone and my watch... etc.

I had the same complaint. RMA unit (that was brand new) also had the rattling. Annoying. Every tech I chat with has not heard of this problem but it is covered in the Pixel product forums and here. Honestly you're probably just wasting your time and frustrating yourself. Out of all the units I've seen around 8~ both pure black and panda they all had the rattle especially on speakerphone calls because all the volume is coming only from the bottom. It's probably just cheap ass LG speakers that cannot handle the volume that Google has set. I'm assuming they will push a software update to make speakerphone calls on both speakers and lower the overall volume.
Actually, the rattling on my devices was out of the top speaker... One of the speakers was tuned louder than the other. Can't remember which one.
I got a rma. Same problem.
This speaker issue is probably the final issue that will make me return this phone. The rattle is really annoying. The other big issue is color accuracy. Natural and Boosted are not sRGB and too muted. Saturated mode is like cartoon land and browns appear as orange.
These issues would be far less magnified if this phone costed $200 less. But at this price, it's just not worth it for me. Feels like too many compromises.
Yeah noticed the rattle too on the bottom speaker. It's very noticeable at the 75% or above. I don't remember my original device having this so I'm not sure if it was just quieter as this one does seem noticeably loud.
I spoke with Google about this issue today and they stated the upcoming November update should fix it. I HIGHLY doubt it's a software issue, but I figured I would give it a chance. I still expect to have to RMA this thing after receiving the update.

This is a hardware fault in my opinion if you so lightly touch the speaker mesh it moves around, and it doesn't seem very firm to me. Not to mention the dust issue, I had my phone for a day or so and already I can see the dust build up around the speaker mesh (I'm very clean I don't just put my phone in any place). Too much room around the speaker mesh is probably an issue for long-term
I have this issue with my pixel 2 xl. I rma'd it and got another brand new replacement. The replacement device has the same issue.
The Nexus 6p had the same issue when it was released, Google then pushed an update and or was all fixed. Getting in this RMA vicious is not going to solve it.

I have this also but I thought somebody on YouTube said that Google turned the top speaker down for this reason but maybe they didn't turn it down enough.

Muffled sound from speakers? 3XL

I know not many of you have your phones yet, but I got mine yesterday and noticed that the sound from the two front-facing speakers sounds muffled/distorted when at lower volumes (below 50% is around when I notice it). Has anyone else heard this on their Pixel 3 XL?
Thanks!
Matt

I also noticed it on my phone too. You're not alone.
I have a buzzing/distortion coming from the bottom speaker. There are more people or Reddit reporting this issue.
I also posted about it on Androidcentral.
I will have to get an RMA soon.

You might as well not bother with an RMA, Google has said that they designed the speakers to be garbage. I noticed the terrible sound right away. I will more than likely be returning mine. https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/10/18/one-pixel-3-xls-front-facing-speakers-much-louder/

It sure is! It's almost laughable, Google must think that we are complete morons. This sucks because I like everything else about this device.
Sounds like I turned on the audio and shoved the phone in a shoebox. Sounds horrible?

Lol
Yeah sound is not really great. Muffled and a bit background distortion. Hope they can fix this with an update.
I just started watching some YouTube and the distortion sssuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkkkkssssssss!!! It sounds so like some static material had a baby with whatever comes out of the drying machines lent trap. Hadn't noticed this particular issue with other forms of media. Regardless this is something Google needs to address asap
Any chance rooted users could fix this with viper? Also, I tweeted unbox therapy to see if he'd bring this to light the way he did with iPhone issues. Love everything about the device but the sound is just off.

I was also wondering if Viper could fix this. It would be worth a shot.
My experience seems different than others. The first time I crank the speakers I did feel vibration but I don't now. I'm listening to some pretty heavy Stoner Rock. Think fuzzed-out guitars, big drums and open hi-hats. Heavy Bass. So technically music that covers of broad frequency spectrum. I think it sounds pretty good, darn loud and no Distortion. Do I expect at the sound like my Bose system? No. But I'd be fine in a quiet corner of the meeting or hotel room listening to some music or catching a little Netflix.

Music doesn't sound bad to me, it's movies and YouTube. I noticed it right away when I was watching a movie on Netflix, the sound is just not good.

Yeah it's big time muffled below 50% above that it sounds good. But I can't even view Snapchat videos with out turning it up so everyone else can hear it too... I thought I had to RMA but looks like that's just how this phone is..
This sucks!

You may have gotten lucky and received a better device than me. I'm not being sarcastic when I say...I'm happy for you, and a little jealous that you may have better speakers than me

Or my ears are shot! Got my phone just in time for System of a Down concert. I also don't listen to much through phone speakers. I mean I take Skype guitar lessons that I don't expect high quality for that life type of setting. I generally watch Netflix through my television and music through my car stereo. A lot of YouTube might be how to videos but the people who post them aren't using high-end equipment or isolated microphones.
I found this online and it makes you install an equalizer and you can make some adjustments to mask the defects.

I has to turn 230hz all the way down to -15db. That hides almost all the distortion and vibration.
Not ideal but let me try it for a bit.

Gonna try this once I get into work and get my pixel on WiFi. Seems worth a shot but I’ll report back how it works for me as well.
