Magisk - Unable to install modules - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hey all. Recently unlocked bootloader + root. Everything is stock. I'm a new Magisk user so hopefully I'm not doing anything wrong, but when I attempt to install a module, I'm presented with:
/data/magisk isn't setup properly!
Please install Magisk v14.0+!
failed!
Installation error!
Anyone ever came across this? On the main menu, my latest Magisk version is v14.4, installed Magish version is v14.4, 14.4:MAGISKSU (topjohnwu)
Edit: This happened with the Youtube background play module (iYTBP for Magisk) but I was able to install the Busybox module. So maybe it was just module specific?

I'm having the same problem. I was able and install busybox module but same error on YouTube module and unified adaway. I installed the YouTube module manually and adaway APK so I haven't worried about it much. Would be nice to know what the problem is though.

Ah good to know! Is there an apk for the Youtube module?

Super Mario Run

Just heard Super Mario Run has came out on android but its not showing as supported for my HTC 10 on the play store?? I tried the app from an alternative store and got an error message after being able to do the first level. Why would the HTC 10 not be supported. would a build prop edit make it work?
Edit: Looks like it might be because Im rooted, going to try Magisk.
Edit 2: seems to be working with Magisk installed, still not available on playstore though.
I installed it through the play store without any problem(root-magisk)

I'm glad this is working for someone.
Perhaps you could add some insight into what my issue may be? I'm sure others might be experiencing it.
I've Magisk v11.6 installed, "Properly rooted" via 2.79 SuperSu.
SafetyNet Failed: CTS Profile mismatch- is occurring though.
I followed these steps, but no success.
What could I try? Does anyone have advice?
I have downloaded it, and played the game successfully. I am stock, non-rooted. I have the unlocked version sold from HTC.

If you flashed Magisk, it would (attempt to) remove SuperSU and replace it with MagiskSU afaik. Incorrect on my part, apologies. It only removes SuperSU if it is not systemless.
If you have SuperSU, I think that may be the issue but I am not entirely sure. I remember issues with Magisk hide and SuperSU back on an earlier build.
EDIT: Have you togged Super Mario Run in the Magisk hide section of the Magisk Manager app?

Yes, it is working for un-rooted users. Rooted users, not so well in most cases.

Yes. I am able to run the tutorial level, then I receive error 804-5100.

you need magisk SU to be able to use magisk hide and pass safety net. supersu won't work.

First time Android user rooted with Magisk, but not sure how to proceed further

I followed topjohnwu's guide of installing Magisk Manager, managed to get it rooted and passed the SafetyNet check (Pixel 2 XL).
Am on v14.4 for magisk and v5.4.1 for Magisk Manager, when I pressed the "Tap to start SafetyNet check", it straight away crashes the app and then forces me to restart it. I checked my SafetyNet through root checker instead.
Also, I tried downloading v4a v2.5.0.4 but it says audio format is unsupported and not processing when I tried playing songs from Spotify, I need help to make this work. Many thanks for those who viewed and offers their opinion!
If you want viper to work you must set selinux to permissive.

The safety net crash is a know bug. Doesn't cause any problems. Tho new magisk update was just released. As stated above must be permissive for viper. Theres a magisk module zip to set permissive.
New version of Magisk (14.5) and Magisk manager (5.4.2) out.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Have you updated to Magisk 15.0?

This update seems like a big deal.
If you've installed this update, please relay your experience with it. Thanks!
Well, I reckon I'll be the guinea pig.
Downloaded, installed and rebooted.
Went from 14.0 to 15.0
Checked Safety Net.
Not sure what else to check, opposed to just daily driving it.
All seems to be well.
are you able to install modules in magisk 15.0

Kinda apprehensive to try, as I'm on travel away from home.
I could not install either Dolby Atmos, while on 14.0.
Let me see if I can find a small module...
ETA, I tried both Dolby Atmos and the Viper for Magisk 14+.
All failed.
If you want to successfully flash modules using magisk 15+ , you have to do a onetime install of the following f2fs workaround module (flash via TWRP)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ap...isk-official-version-including-t3577875/page1
How do we upgrade from the @juniorpassos Magisk 13.3 listed in this thread? Is there anything special that needs to be done if just booting TWRP temporarily and flashing a Magisk ZIP from the XDA thread? When I open Magisk on my phone, I see is a "Cannot check for updates, no internet?" message even though I'm definitely on WiFi.
Also, anyone that wants to save me time writing a post asking how to pass SafetyNet check wins my internet love.
Update: I just went ahead and did it. Looks like it's working fine and I was prompted to install something that now makes my phone pass SafetyNet.

YouTube Vanced 15.05.54 root - fail to install

Maybe someone can help me.
I can't install Vanced.
SAI is giving me fault: APK doesn't have any certificates
Removed Vanced from Magisk (ver 14.x)
With module smalipatcher i disabled apk signature verification
What I am doing wrong?
Let me know if you succeed. I'm back on magisk version after similar failed attempt

Did you try to enable sign apk before install in settings? Worked for me.

Tried with and without, no success
After few attempts I mannaged to install no root version
Ok. Have the soluion.
I removed smalipatcher, so the apk signature verification is on, and then in SAI switched on apk sign before instalation.
Vanced installed
Edit: but shutting down after few seconds
Why do you use the smaili patcher etc?
And why that version of vanced?
Latest installed through magisk repo is 14.21.54
For me on this device I simply installed the magisk vanced module through the download section of magisk, made sure any "updates for YouTube is uninstalled and it runs fine.
So is the problem getting vanced itself to run or to get that spesific version to run? Since it's not in the repo I'm assuming that might be the issue.
Is there may new cool functionality in v15?
Edit: never mind all this.
It seems that all that stuff is the new way of installing it and if you want the latest version I guess you're making the right attempts.
Can't help you as to why it's not working.
However I like the magisk module. Works perfectly. A bit of a shame I'm not on the latest vanced, yet at least it's running fine.
So if you simply want vanced to run I can recommend the magisk version?

Edit 2:
It seems your problem had to do with signature verification. You're following android 9 guide not android 10.
Here:
ROOT INSTALLATION GUIDE:
1) Disable APK verification using a Magisk module or similar app (this module works on Android 9 or lower). If you’re on Android 10, you can use Xposed + CorePatcher

How To Guide EASIEST method to unblock McDonalds app and many more

Hello everyone, after a long time of not being able to figure out on how to make the McDonalds app work on a magisk rooted phone with twrp + custom rom. I finally managed to do it.
I want to share my method with you, hopefully it will work for everyone.
At first, install the McDonalds app (If not already done).
1. Install app manager from play store
2. Force stop + clear cache
3. In magisk, enable magiskhide and follow the steps.
4. In the new magisk app. Select Systemless hosts
5. Also, enable denylist and add McDonalds to it.
6. Install Universal Safetynet Fix by kdrag0n from github.
7. After installing, the apps should work.
Good luck!
which version of magisk?
I don't know exactly, I am using the latest version. Should work on most versions that includes MagiskHide

Open magisk and it will shiw you what version you have
I'm using 25.2
can you show screen shot of your magisk and the magisk hide function, it is not in mine. i usually use magisk delta which does have magisk hide in it
Or just use the browser when ordering.
It still doesn't work I think they detect an unlocked bootloader even if you don't have root
I saw a module in Lposed that blocks root in the macdonalds app.
Thread '[MOD][XPOSED][4.1+] McRoot (McDonalds Global App)' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mod-xposed-4-1-mcroot-mcdonalds-global-app.4265069/
Hey, thanks for the "tutorial"! Kinda surprised that it works even on banking apps or it could be another thing that i tried before.
Edit: I think that you need LSPosed + Hide My Applist for the banking apps
