5T camera vs 6p - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 21st regardless of the camera. Just not that important to me. For my wife, it's a little more important. She's happy with the nexus 6p camera so how do we think this one stacks up specifically against the 6p? Roughly the same, worse, slightly better?

This is the same question I want to ask.

Doing the same, but for me. I'm on Verizon with my 6P, but probably going to T-Mobile. If there was no chance of switching, I may have gone with the Essential.
Had the Pixel 2XL ordered & then cancelled it the day it was going to ship. I'm glad I did because of the cost & issues.
I'm hoping the 5T camera is just as good as the 6P or better. I'm hoping better since the technology is a little older in the 6P.

on Nexus 6P you only have to point and shoot but on OP5 it's different. I don't think OP5 can match Nexus 6P in term of quality but it's not day and night different. For normal usage it's not a problem.

i have the same doubt, but i'm hoping the hdr+ ported camera should make it comparible !

Has anyone used both the 5X and 6P?

So here is my dilemma, just playing with the 6P a bit and i love everything so far about it no issues as of now im still not a fan of AMOLED but its not as bad as i thought it would be but my biggest issue is the phone is massive I have small hands and im not sure I can ever get use to a phone this size, btw im coming from the M8
So I know the 5X is a plastic build, smaller battery and only 1 front speaker these are the things that matter to me but it has the same camera which is one of the main reasons I want to replace my M8
My question for anyone that has used both can you give me an unbiased opinion on speed of the 5X and battery or any other important issues. I just want to know if maybe i should give the 5X a shot
I have Nexus 5X and like it.
I have not used Nexus 6P and although it could be a bit faster, have more RAM or stereo speakers - the size of it is the problem for me. Aluminum is slippery especially if the phone is big and not comfortable to hold + more expensive. I am happy with Nexus 5X and and it completes my daily tasks just like any other flagship device out there. For you, I would suggest, to get 5X, but don't return your 6P just yet. Play with both and return one of them.

I bought both and used them and decided on the 5X. The 6P outperforms the 5X pretty much everywhere. But the 5X feels so much smaller/lighter/better in the hand. I tried my best to love the 6P but in the end, it was just too big. The 5X definitely feels cheaper, but I kinda like that. In the end, I kept not looking forward to actually holding the 6P in my hands. As I wrote to someone else, holding the 6P was a bit of a chore. The 5X is plenty fast in performance, but not as fast and smooth as the 6P. Coming from my Galaxy S4, the 5X flies.
This topic is very helpful. I currently have the 6p and trying to determine if i should return it and get the 5x. I love the 6p with a case on it but the size is my main complaint. It is fast and great for watching videos and browsing the web at home. Speakers and camera are good. I have a difficult time when I am active moving around or using in the car. It doesn't fit in my cup holder. I have almost dropped it a few times when trying to use one handed.
I am constantly thinking that I will be happier with smaller phone. My current phone is 4.7 inches.

I had both for about a week, and now it's been a week since I returned the 6P. I must say I am not regretting my decision at all. Even things like hitting the fingerprint sensor are better on the 5X. And I must say I definitely prefer the LCD on the 5X to the amoled on the 6P. Movies are the only thing that look better on the 6P; everything else looks better on the 5X, as far as color goes. I did prefer the 6P with sRGB color enabled. If only the 6P was, like, 5.3-5.4 inches and not as heavy. Not only is the 5X easier on the hand, the thing is light as a feather.
Haven't used the 6p, however I'm coming from a 4.7 inch nexus 4, and I was always scared for a screen bigger than 5 inches, but after getting the 5x it fits very nicely and not as big as I thought

I have used both for about a week each. My observations are as follows:
Battery Life - The 6P seems to last a fair bit longer than the 5X, for me at least. Even with the same set of apps on both the 6P lasts me a day whereas the 5X requires a top-up mid afternoon.
Screen - Personally I prefer the larger more vibrant screen of the 6P. The other advantage is that the UI seems a bit small on the 5X due to being scaled down compared to other 5.2" phones I have used like the Moto X 2nd Gen. Probably an age thing though, I never used to have a problem with smaller text!
Speed/Performance - Both are fairly fast and responsive, however the 5X tends to get bogged down for a few seconds from time to time. The 6P doesn't seem to do this.
Weight/Size - This is the killer for me. Although I prefer most aspects of the 6P it is just a bit too big to be comfortable in most of my trouser (pants for the Americans among us) pockets . It is worth noting that I didn't have any problem with the size of the 6P while in use - I could type fine one handed using a swipe keyboard.
As had been said many times elsewhere by other people, the phone I really wanted was a 5P..... Ultimately though I have settled on using the 5X for the moment, in the hope that one of the updates will help in the battery life stakes verses the 6P. The 6P just seemed like too much of a hassle to carry around.

This is the exact reason I didn't even give the 6P a second thought. After owning the Nexus 6 for many months, I just never felt comfortable with it and ended up back on my Nexus 5. Using it was definitely a burden, especially on the go. I learned first hand that a 6" phone is just too big. I was never able to get used to it. Quite frankly, I don't see how enough people find it to be a good size, thus making manufacturers continue to build phones that big. 5.2" - 5.5" is the sweet spot. Any bigger is just too much.
I ordered both, and I'm returning the 6P
Main reason:
6P is too big, slippery and heavy making one handed use almost impossible.
Secondary reasons:
Pricey.
810 woes. I could feel it get quite warm, although not unbearably so. Again, with the cost in perspective, I would rather wait for a better processor in a 5 inch phone.
I really don't do anything demanding with my phone. I mainly care about the unlocked bootloader and good s/w support, which any nexus would provide.
I still get some mileage over 5, notably wifi calling and band 12 support for t-mobile when it arrives. Combined with the early bird google play promo, I think I paid pretty much the same price for pretty much the same phone, which is fine. I really like my 5, and I'll give it to someone in family. Also, for what it's worth, the 5x should hold better value than 5 since it works with all the carriers in the US, should you choose to sell it later.
I have owned two Nexus 6Ps. The first had a green tint on the top half of the screen and the second had a red tint on the top. Granted, they were minor, and the vast majority of people would never notice the tints, but I'm extremely picky when it comes to displays. I returned multiple Galaxy S6s earlier this year for the same reason. AMOLED screens just seem to have poor uniformity and so I generally prefer LCDs. So I ordered a 5x today and it already shipped. But it's going to have to beat my Moto X Pure (Style) if it wants to stay in my pocket. I'll share my thoughts next week after I get a couple days to compare to the 6P and Pure.

My 5x has a barely noticeable tint near the bottom half, almost like a gradient on white displays but as you say most people probably wouldn't even notice it. I guess it's not just an AMOLED thing. I did an RMA but the replacement is completely yellow unfortunately, not sure if it's even worth trying again at this time.
My friend got the 6p and I got the 5x. No doubt the 6p is the more premium offering but in day to day use and holding the device the 5x wins hands down.
So I got my 5X today and love it. I will be returning the 6P. I will miss the slightly better performance of the 6P, the larger battery, and the better speakers, but I prefer the screen on the 5X (I'm an LCD and accurate color fan) and most of the experience is the same. Oh, and the camera cover glass on the 6P gives it really bad reflections in photos when the sun is out so I'm hoping the more standard looking lens cover on the 5X solves that.

I have both the 5x and the 6p. My 6p has a pink hue I'm waiting for them to release the hold on the first one I returned and I'm going to get another. Besides having the pink hue on the 6p I love both devices for different reasons. I do find myself reaching for my 5x more just because it's more comfortable. I currently have my phone sim in my 5x and my tablet sim in my 6p. I do use both every day though.

It is. Selling the Moto X. I heard so many complaints about the 5X being stuttery and slow, but those people must have defective units or a rogue app constantly running because I can barely tell a difference between the 5X and 6P, sometimes not at all. The 5X is no faster than the Moto X Pure, but scrolling and animations are much smoother.
I have the Nexus 5X and a co-worker of mine has the Nexus 6P which he allowed me to play with for a while. The Nexus 6P is just too big for me. One handed use and comfortable pocketabiltiy are high on my list. I did like the build quality and I prefer the more life like colors and deep blacks of an AMOLED screen(although I'm really happy with the Nexus 5X screen too). As far as battery it seemed to me that while browsing using Chrome the battery on the Nexus 6P dropped at about the same rate as my Nexus 5X with similar conditions and similar results in the battery details screen but I don't do a very accurate test so I can't say for sure but it seems that it's comparable to the Nexus 5X or maybe just a bit better which is what I would expect due to the much higher resolution.
Don't have 6P but N5X is definitely a welcome change in terms of weight and size after spending a year with Oneplus One. I never got used to 5.5" device and having weightless N5X puts it several notches above 6P for me. Besides, with encryption disabled this thing is plenty buttery, so no complaining here.
I've used both and I'm very undecided...
Display - Tie
Nexus 6P pros here are the bigger AMOLED screen. I'm typically an AMOLED fan over LCD and I actually like the over-saturated colors. That said, the LCD on the Nexus 5X is more accurate and has very even blacks (they are still gray compared to an AMOLED, but the screen doesn't have any bright spots/backlight bleed). Also, even though I know AMOLED screens have improved on this front I was still always worried about burn-in since it does start to get noticeable over time. It's nice to not have to worry about that on the 5X. I'd say it's a wash.
Audio - 6P
No contest here. My 6P had slightly imbalanced speakers so I ended up returning it but my wife's is very close to balanced. But even with the balance being slightly off the sound on the 6P is much better than the 5X. The 5X is actually worse than my Moto X 2014. Headphone output is about the same on both.
Performance - Tie
Haven't had any performance issues on either device. The 6P obviously has the faster processor but they're both "good enough" and neither lags in normal use.
Quality Control - 5X
Both 6Ps I've used have minor issues like the screen being seated improperly, the speaker balance being off, etc... The 5X doesn't have any minor imperfections like that.
Battery Life - 6P
No contest here really. The 6P has much better battery life both on standby and when actively using the device. The 5X is "okay" but I barely make it through a day of heavy usage (ie, when I was traveling yesterday) while the 6P can easily handle it.
Usability - 5X
Wasn't really sure what to call this, but the 5X's size just makes it easier to use with one hand. It fits better in your pocket, etc...
Camera - Tie
I haven't seen any observable difference between the two.
So overall I have 2 wins for each and the rest are ties. Obviously it depends on what you prioritize but it's making the decision very tough for me.
Just to follow up on my earlier post (quoted below) I have been switching between the two devices more often than I thought I would. While the size of the 5X is preferable to me the battery life just isn't working out as well as I had hoped, given the the same usage and apps on both (light to moderate usage).

I have returned the 6p and settled on the 5x. The 6p is a beast of a phone, speed, screen, build, etc etc. However, i just could not get personal with it. I am so much more happy with the 5x. A true 5 upgrade. Speed wise yes maybe a bit of difference, but im on my second day and its as fast as my 5 if not faster.

Would you change a Nexus 6 to get a Nexus 5x?

Hi, I have a Nexus 6 since a few years ago almost, and I think is time to change it, also, if I wait more time it will be hard for me to sell it at a good price. I've seen both the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5x, but I don't want to spend a lot of money when both devices does not seems to have a MAJOR difference, in a daily usage I believe the performancen is not drastically noticed between the two of them.
I like the fingerprint reader, due to my job's policies, I need to keep my phone with password, and that would make it more comfortable, also, the 6 cores processor, but is it true that the resolution is better in the Nexus 5x compared to the Nexus 6? the colors on the Nexus 6 are a little bit bright for my taste.
What about the camera? I've heard that is also better in the Nexus 5x. I would appreciate your comments, thanks a lot!!!
The camera has more features on the 6p (240fps, burst, EIS). The 5x is going to be a big change in size coming from the n6. I'm actually in the process of making the switch myself but my 5x doesn't come until thursday but it should be a big improvement in many ways but will be smaller and less ram the n6 will. I thought about getting the 6p having used one briefly but the price I paid for my 5x was just too good to pass up on.
I came from a Nexus 6. It was the right choice for me. Here are my personal findings.
Pros:
- Camera is a HUGE upgrade from the 6. I take pictures more often now because of it. I never cared for this feature at first but I find myself taking a lot of photos.
- Fingerprint scanner. I personally like that it's on the back as I take it out of my pocket and it's already unlocked.
- Way lighter than the 6. I actually like the weight of this device even though it may feel cheap to some.
Middle:
- Battery life seems to be roughly the same.
- Specs? However from my experience the phone runs really well. I am using PureNexus ROM and Xposed right now.
Cons:
- USB C? Since you're coming from a 6 you're going to have a change up your connectors which will be a pain at first.
- Speakers. They're not great but it's front facing at least and they have mods out there to support stereo sound using your audio jack and earpiece.
Can't think of anything right now but that's all I can think of coming from the 6.
Thank you both! Nexus 6P is not an option for me, I've been paying a lot for my previous phones, but now, I just want to get rid of my Nexus 6, without having to pay more than I want, mostly because the 6P does not offer a lot of options compared to the Nexus 6 and Nexus 5X, nothing really BIG. I used to have a Nexus 5 and I admit that I've always liked it more than the Nexus 6. So, in summary, the change of phones is a good option isn't? Thanks!
I would keep the Nexus6. The 6 is a nicer device than the 5P. Custom ROMs will keep it running nicely for the foreseeable future as well. Hell, even my N4 runs smoothly right now.

Personally I didnt like the large size of the 6p but it was a decent phone. I returned it and got the 5x. Much more comfy to use and hold. So either is a good device.
Yeah, I get that, maybe it's because I really liked the Nexus 5 with the size + quality combination. and I don't see a big difference between the Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P to pay approx $500, while I will pay like $40 in difference if I get the Nexus 5x. Until the next phone with a major improvement shows up.
With a horse on a donkey, 6->5X. Price explains everything, but n6 is one year older phone.
6P only as a reasonable transition in my opinion.
Bad speaker, suspicious SoC & build quality, battery smaller capacity, 2GB RAM+64bit OS=extra ram management [emoji23] , free space memory... Overall quality of Motorola and LG phones....hmm

Thanks for your feedback, and I get what you're saying, but the 6P is around 550 bucks on the web, and I don't feel like paying that amount of money for such small (in my own opinion) improvements over N6, while getting a N5X will be almost "free" once I sell mine; maybe it's just that I felt N5 was a better phone than N6 and the N5X feels like the same N5 with improvements. I might be wrong of course.
Regards.
I took an N5X since my N6 died on me.
I must say i'm very pleased with performance of it, and the size is very comfy too. (back when i had a Note 2 i thought it was too big, then went for Nexus 6 cause reasons?!)
I wouldn't buy an N5X over the N6 though, it seems like the pro's and con's rule each other out pretty much.
My verdict: Stay with your Nexus 6 as long as it serves you well. Cherish the awesome build they did on it =)

Mr. Torque!!!! Sorry couldn't resist....cause....REASONS!!!
I just ordered the 5x for my wife to replace her G4. I might get one as well depending on how it attacks to my Note 5. I want to get the 6P though but we shall see. Have to cut monthly costs unfortunately.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions! I actually read some reviews about the Nexus 5X and it looks like it's not the best move to switch from N6 to N5X, mostly due to audio, overall performance, and phone design. I decided to upgrade directly to N6P knowing that it's going to be hard at this point to present something different in the next nexus phones, so I hope this one stays with me pretty much like N6 did. Thanks a lot guys!!!
I would, and I did. I went from Nexus 6 to OnePlus Two and now Nexus 5x. What a difference

Going for the OP3 (6P Owner)

Hello everybody,
I currently have the Nexus 6P and a little bit tired of dealing with its own flaws (overheating, mediocre battery life, ****ty DAC...).
My only pro over the OP3 is the 6P's camera. Is the OP3 camera comparable?
Would it be worth the upgrade (not only camera-wise)?
Note that i'm a ex-owner of the OPO and sold it just to upgrade to the Nexus but this phone is disappointing me.
Would like to hear your general opinion about battery life, DAC quality...
Thanks in advance!
the sound is very good, you can also boost it up with arise mod or other sound mods.
Remove this post please
My 2 cents OP3 camera is pretty good with a 3rd party app can get some good shots from it but the 6P is better Audio isn't amazing If you're big on audio go for a ZTE Axon 7, HTC 10 or LG V20
I come from Nexus 6p to OnePlus 3. First and most I love the design of the phone and it fits perfectly in my hand. 6P was great but I just felt it was a little big. Also, thanks to snapdragon 820, this thing is fast and it does not get warm like the 6p thanks to the 6gb ram. The battery is great. I get 1 day and half but it depends on how you use your phone. The dash charger has changed my life of how I use my phone now. I no longer worry about charging my phone overnight. Thanks to dash charger this thing charges so fast. I am not a big fan of phone cameras but I think it's great. I was tempted to get Axon 7 but the development is just dead for that device. With OnePlus 3, you get updates from the company every month and just check out XDA section, you will know what I mean . Tons of Roms and mods and growing very fast.
Man I have changed to the OP3 coming from a 6P and I am in love with this phone Dash charge and 6 hours screen rock
It's so hard to compare the two phones objectively as we each have different expectations of our devices, but in terms of the camera I'd say while my old 6P could produce some excellent pictures, those I get from the the OP3 are still very, very good. I think the OP camera has more features however and is certainly much faster.
On the hardware side, the OP3 is of a much better quality in the hand and far better built than the flimsy 6P with all those bending in the pocket reports. Dash charge is a revelation as others have already said. The screen is also great. Even though the resolution is lower than on the 6P, it just looks far better overall in my opinion. The colours are much more vibrant and brightness is excellent in daylight situations. Like others have said it's also a dream phone for anyone that wants to tinker and install custom software with great community support.
Having said this if software stability and a stock android experience is important for you, you may be frustrated by OnePlus's software. For me and many others the so called stable builds are more like nightlies or beta builds in comparison to Nexus updates. So many OP updates seem to fix some bugs but consistently bring yet more new ones. OnePlus's community builds may be even worse and have caused big problems for some users. In OnePlus's favour is the fact that they work fast to fix the big problems. However, if stability is your thing, the OP3 won't compare to a Google phone.
The biggest issue for me that was never a worry with my Nexus is that OP are now committed to a new course where they are hoping to add more of their China market apps and features to the stock OS they ship in the West. In their community builds, they're messing with the default system colours and beginning to replace some of the basic system apps like the dialer with their own lesser offerings which I certainly don't like. Although there are great custom ROMs out there like CM13 and 14 that can ensure I will retain a stock android feel, none of them can offer the same camera quality I get with OP's own software. Overall that makes me feel I will be trapped with the software vision of a company that isn't so good at producing software as they lead us all into the unknown with ever more pointless changes that I never wanted in the first place. For a former die hard Nexus fan like me that's a very big deal and if it continues I may be tempted to jump to the Pixel XL in the not too distant future in spite of its ludicrous and frankly extortionate price tag.
If you can get the Pixel then buy that over the OP3, it's a better 6P basically minus the front facing speakers. The reason I say this is OnePlus doesn't have the greatest track record for software updates unless you install CM. If that's the case then the Axon might be a better buy. Also, screen uniformity is a big issue on the OP3. I'm getting mine RMA'd and pray that they bless me with a good screen. http://i.imgur.com/KMpsmuG.jpg I'm actually thinking of getting the 6P since the prices have fallen and since the Pixel XL costs so much.

6P vs Pixel XL

I have a ROM problem.... T-Mobil is giving a $325 rebate and wondering if worth the upgrade $$ ? Thoughts?
I like the 6p over the pixel in terms of build quality but pixel just slightly snappier but you'd be Happy with either one
One of my best friends has the 6P, and I have the Pixel XL. The pixel is a little faster than his 6P, but the screen is slightly smaller. He wants a pixel, but decided he would wait for the pixel 2 because 6P -> Pixel isn't that much of a jump.
basically, pixel is a little faster and ive noticed better speeds when connected to the same wifi network when streaming videos (honestly negligible difference). The camera on the pixel is way more detailed/
hope this helped.
I agree I have both the 6p and the Pixel XL and while the pixel is a little faster the 6p is no slouch. Now that I have both I'm amazed how smooth the 6p still is. If you can wait just wait for the 2. Either way, though you will be happy. Now if you want a better camera then the pixel definitely has that over the 6p.

Meh... With that amount of credit I would go with the Pixel XL.
The camera is awesome.. The screen is great... Its the fastest Android phone I have owned.
I say go with Pixel XL
Just for the outstanding looking and ultra fast system I think Pixel wouldn't disappoint you.
What about developer support ? ROMs, TWRP, etc? I tend be bounce between Pure Nexus, Linage, etc.
Screen brightness is much brighter on Pixel if that matters. Especially after using Flars HBM mod.
I had to change when I jumped to verizon (long story). Really miss the 6P. Pixel XL is okay but doesn't feel as solid. Can't root the stupid Pixel XL either.
I have 6p and pixel xl, as you have read before, I feel the build quality on 6p is more premium and solid than the pixel, i miss the loud speakers, custom ROMs and mods varieties on 6p,
in contrast, pixel XL screen is brighter, system speed is smoother and snappier, the camera is awesome, and the best thing in pixel XL that it has a great battery life..
the worst thing in pixel XL that i dont feel it as a major update from 6p ( remember, we paid worth of 860$ for pixel xl)and I feel it will have a dark future in customizations and development which is the opposite in Nexus family..simple things like installing Roms and rooting are really pain in the neck... honestly...despite the advantages of pixel xl..im thinking to return back to 6p..

I've come from 6p also, Development does seem a little slow in comparison. I think it's mainly due to the high price of the unit for starters.
Then there's the new partition layout which has understandably slowed things down.
Also a lot of developers are posting their builds outside of XDA now.
Let's hope that things pick up here.

What do you mean you cannot root the Pixel XL?
Is this because you have a verizon model with locked boot loader?
My experience has varied compared to some of these posts. I had the 6P and switched to the Pixel XL because of a problem with the noise cancelling mic on the 6P. (Google finally agreed to replace my 6P after I bought the Pixel)
I like the Pixel XL slightly more than the 6P. Not enough to switch if I didn't have an issue with the 6P. Both devices were smooth. I feel like the Pixel has a better build quality. The aluminum on the 6P seemed to dent easily and the buttons weren't very sturdy. Don't get me wrong, the 6P is a very sturdy phone but the Pixel seems to be sturdier. The screen on my 6P was brighter. The Pixel is hard to see in the sun whereas the 6P was not. The 6P has a 64GB option which is what the Pixel should have started at IMO. I had a 6P charging port go bad and had to get that replaced then the replacement had noise canceling mic problems (software issue on stock Android for the 6P) causing an echo for whomever I was talking to. This issue wasn't fixed after 3 security updates so Google replaced it. I haven't really used the replacement yet. The AMOLED screen on the 6P seemed to be affected by screen burn-in from the notification bar and navigation bar rather quickly (probably because it was brighter). Both have really good cameras but the Pixel's is better.
Besides that, the phones are pretty equivalent for everyday use. Both even handle intense use pretty well but the SD 810 in the 6P throttles the speeds regularly under heavy use when the ambient temperature is warm. I haven't experienced throttling on the Pixel.
I don't think upgrading from the 6P to the Pixel is worth it unless you can get the Pixel for the price of the 6P at the time you bought it. IMO, the big price difference isn't justified by the small performance difference.

The main reason i shifted to pixel mainly because of current bad battery life of 6p, i bought a new pixel XL 128 gb for 700$ ( someone bought it and then he is broke so he needs money) its true that i bought it at a good price, but i still feel its expensive and not convinced worth of upgrade

I forgot to mention the battery life. The Pixel's battery life is probably the one thing that blows the 6P away. I actually get through a full day with battery to spare. That rarely happened on the 6P... even when it was brand new. I can get 6+ hours of SoT on the Pixel and was lucky to get 4 on the 6P. If battery life is the absolute most important factor when considering an upgrade, the Pixel is worth it. The battery life is equal to, if not better than, the iPhone 7 Plus. Pixel has longer LTE web browsing battery life while the iPhone barely beats the Pixel on WiFi web browsing. The Pixel wins or they are tied in every other category.

Thanks for the great info around this, with the tmobile rebate and selling my 6P it is 100 delta. Plus battery life and screen brightness is an issue for me during the day outside.
Cheers,
-RE
I had the 6P for 360 days, when it went into the famous bootloop. Just watched a video on youtube, and it suddenly rebooted, and never got out of it. I saw the warning screen, the google logo for 2 seconds, and puff, reboot, then warning, google logo 2 seconds, reboot.... ..... That was my 4th android phone, but the first one that just broke (even the first phone ever that broke). I loved it, I loved big phones, I loved that it was a nexus, it was thin, fast, and I almost cried when it became a brick. I was astonished, when i discovered, that i'm not the only one. Many people, talked on many forums about the same issue (or about the battery dying at 50%), there was no solution, but to return the phone. I will never buy a huawei again. Never....
I returned the phone, and got my money back (on the same day when the guarantee expired....), and I have put some more to it, and bought a 128GB pixel. Yes, the small one, because who the hell has 1100-1200 euros for a damn phone ? (and also because there was no 128GB pixel xl around at that time ).
Where do i start ? This little thing is better in every way, then the 6P or, any other phone I held, or used.
Speed: The 6P was fast, but the pixel is 10 times faster. Everything opens in a moment, even pages in chrome, I can scroll a still loading page. Try to open this xda page in chrome, and scroll a bit down, then back up. The 6P lagged like hell, but there is no lag in the pixel. Try to copy files from the 6P to the computer (i know, who cares, but this somewhat benchmarks the internal memory speed), I was jumping like a monkey when i first saw that I copy files with about 30-40MB/s from the 6P. I did a backup of the pixel and I copied with 140MB/s IN..F*CKING..SANE! No wonder it is faster in every day usage... Ok. Speed is done. It is just faster, no lag, no thinking, loading, nothing. Just does eveything in the blink of an eye. Really.
Sound: The 6P sounds like ****... (I know there is the stereo front facing speaker, but who listens to music on the phone's speaker?) I use headphones, and I listen to music through those. And the 6P was **** even with mods (viper, dolby, .....) The pixel has the same DAC (digital audio converter) like the HTC10, which was famous because of that. And boy, does it sound good. The same music, same headphones, same mods, and the difference is night and day! Eargasm
Build: Just the most premium feel on a phone until now. It is sturdy. A little bit thick, but feels like it can't be broken. That Jerry guy on youtube bent the 6P in half like a piece of paper, but he couldn't bend the pixel. Only a little bit, so the the glass started to shift away from the housing, but it went back to normal when he released it. You could see his fingers shake, and going all white while he tried to bend it. Really. It feels premium. The metal, the glass, I love to hold it.
Screen: Now this is something I don't know. I own the small pixel, which is 5" and "only" full HD, but I must say the colors are much more vivid and the brightness is higher than it was on the 6P. I love the little screen though... It may vary on the pixel xl....
Battery: My god! I never tought this is even possible The small pixel has a 2700MAh battery, a lot smaller then the 6P's but man! I am an extreme user. Not playing but listening to youtube, twitter, browsing, listening to music through a ****load of mods, using at least 2 cpu cores all the time, using the camera, bluetooth/wifi/sync always on, auto brightness set to 50%.... The 6P was great, because I came close to 3hours of screen on time. I loved this. It was my first phone that I only charged once a day. But it was always empty at the end of day. The pixel? Same apps, same usage, same protocol all day, and it has half the battery at the end of the day. I can almost use it for 2 days. Okay, 1.7 days I have reached 7hours of SOT. it is usually 4-5 hours, but in some cases I can even go beyond that. During the night it drops 1%, or not even that.
Processor: I was afraid of the SD810 when i bought the 6P. I read all the articles, but said "**** it! It can't be that bad!". But it is It is ****. If the 6P had the SD820, or 821, It would be on the same level as the pixel, but with that crap, it is worse in energy efficiency, and performance. (and everything...) The SD821 is lightyears away!
Camera: I loved the 6P, because it took very nice pictures, even in low light conditions. I'm not a photographer, I know almost nothing about it, but when I shot my first pixel photo, I have **** my pants It's just awesome. In the dark, in sunlight, the colors, the sharpness, the details, there can be shades, and total sunlight on the same photo... Oh yes, and people who might know some things about photography, said that it is the best camera on a smartphone
Some small things that come with it: I know, it is not a good point, because you can enable it on any phone now, and even before, but google assistant is awesome And there is the unlimited photo/video storage, in original quality. Or that the support for the 6P will end soon, but you win an additional year with the pixel, because it is newer. The VR readiness.. And many many small things...
I wanted to keep the 6P, and I was angry at google when they announced the pixel with these prices. But now, I wouldn't go back to the 6P.. Never. The pixel is worth the damn high price. It is awesome already because it is damn fast. I love to use it. Sometimes I just turn it on, and open something just for fun, and because "maybe this will be the first time I see a lag, or stuttering, or something other than opening it in a damn moment", but it never happens. It just does it without any problems.
By the way, the community is also great, you have the same ****, PureNexus, RR, mods, same kernels (franco, elementalx), everything like the 6P, but I'm getting old, and in my experience, stock is always better then the things that are stuffed with "extra settings". Especially now, that stock android has multiwindow, and many great features from old times. I am only rooted because of tasker, titanium backup, and my music mods. The rest is stock.
It costs a lot of money, but it is worth all of it.. I would totally buy it again, If someone would ask me.
@gubacsek, Welll said, I couldn't agree more.
The Pixel XL is a stunning device, and I have no regrets switching from 6p.
Unlimited photo storage at full quality was an amazing bonus for me, as I take a ridiculous amount of photos and 4k video.

Pixel 2 XL to OnePlus 5T

I was wondering if anyone made that move ?
I am considering doing so, however I'd like feedbacks from people that might have done that move.
Cheers !

This is what i'm thinking of doing too. Might be worth buying one to test for yourself and send it back if you don't like the 5T? It'll be interesting to read others users thoughts on this.
Sorry, I moved from galaxy s8+. Other than the camera, I am loving it!

Hey I love the 5T...the Pixel XL is junk, well, at least the screen is. It has issues no doubt. 5T screen is better IMO. Camera, obviously not as good. Neither has an external SD Card?!?!?! Why!!!!!
Anyway, for the money, 5T is hard to beat honestly. Dev support is descent, but not like HTC or Pixel/Google phones.
I had an S8+ for 1 day. Of course, since you can't root without breaking everything like Android pay and Safety Net...no thanks. The S8+ is a near perfect phone, but their abillity to allow you to unlock the bootloader and customize...is nonexistent. Got rid of it. I'm in the US, so the exynos won't work in this country which does allow bootloader unlocking...ridiculous.
I've been an HTC fan for 8yrs now. Just sold my HTC 10. The camera on this OnePlus 5 is better than anything HTC has produced ever. The camera isn't that bad. The OnePlus takes photos as good as my daughter's iPhone 7 Plus. And that camera is no slouch. In fact, head to head, my photos are often better with the 5T.
Anyway...I can imagine the 6 and 6T are going to be a pretty nice. Snapdragon 845 already confirmed for the 6 in a few months they claim it will be released.
Otherwise, I'm not personally dropping $800+ on a new phone no matter who makes it. Which rules Pixel, Huawei, Samsung whatever, and Def iPhone garbage out of the picture. I never spent more than $500-600 on any phone the last 8yrs. HTC resell is pretty good, plus I would wait about 4-6 months after their premier release version to buy it and it is discounted.
Also, my HTC 10 charge port started smelling like burning plaster and wouldn't charge. I had to send it back, and it could take 4 months for them to "evaluate" the burning in Taiwan, then send it back to Seattle, where they say they might not even replace it. They just want to examine it. It is under their uh-oh warranty...so don't know WTF they even care what has happened to it, they will give almost anybody a replacement phone.
Oh well...saw further below that you got the 5T and are keeping it. Version 6 will be out by end of March...so, take it from there. So far, really like the OnePlus...just wish it had a slightly better camera and an SDCard slot.
I was using a Pixel XL for a year and pre-ordered the Pixel 2 XL on launch day.
I got my Pixel 2 XL on October 18th and used it for 2 weeks and there were a lot of good things about it that I liked. It only had a few issues that I could not overlook:
The screen was of poor quality. I'm not talking about unsaturated looking, either. It had harsh blue shift that was impossible not to see in normal day-to-day usage. It also had very poor picture quality when used in a dark room at low brightness. Like everything was too dark yet bright parts of pictures were very bright. Like the contrast of the screen was junk. This was also apparent when viewing pictures at full brightness, but only if I held up my Pixel XL next to it and compared the two. Again, very apparent at low brightness, not as much at normal brightness. Since I like to use my phone at night in the dark, this was a huge pain point. I had no burn-in or noticeable grain in the screen. I was worried moving from a Pixel XL with a quality Samsung panel to a Pixel 2 XL with a questionable LG panel would be a problem, and I was 100% correct.
The battery charging speed. This was something that the Pixel XL wasn't very good at, and I couldn't even get 1% per minute. The Pixel 2 XL was in the same boat, slow charging. Even slower than my old S7 Edge with a larger battery!
These two things were just too much to accept with a $950 device. I returned it to Google for a full refund. Bought the 5T 128GB model on launch day and received it on Black Friday. The 5T has a good screen (like the Pixel XL) and the fastest possible charging option. I also saved like $400 buying the 5T so I got a PS 4 Pro with the extra cash. It's been the best decision I've made since buying the original Pixel XL which was a great phone.

At first I got OnePlus 5T.. in this phone everything was great, except for camera. Camera is a complete disaster - I do not know how people can be taking decent pictures without optical image stabilization. In my case when you look carefully at edges - there was a blur. Tried many camera softwares - the phone simply can't take good pics without OIS. Based on rumors, OnePlus 6 doesn't intend to include OIS in the camera either. Which is sad, as camera modules are about $15 a piece.. likely OIS would be a few dollars more. So, in summary:
OnePlus 5T:
Pros:
- Everything about the phone, screen, performance, development community
Annoyances (not a deal breaker)
- Separate switch on the side of Do not Disturb, Silent, Loud mode. Why on earth this can't be done via volume keys (Mute -> Vibrate -> Loud) and perhaps few other modes?
- Fingerprint reader., especially in the middle of the screen. Mobile device makers are attempting to convince us that bio-metrics are safe, while even US government wasn't able to prevent breach of biometric data of its own employees..
- Mobile camera in the corner, not in the middle of the back panel - in place of a fingerprint. Sometimes camera is obstructed by fingers, perhaps it is just a matter of habit.
Deal breaker:
- Crappy camera with lack of optical image stabilization. No matter what software does via EIS - it is not the same
Outcome: OnePlus 5T returned.
Then - decided to get Pixel 2 XL, hoping that it would get better shots. What a disaster of a phone it is.. around 1,100 Canadian - that is on sale.
Pros:
- Perhaps camera, but in two days took some photos, they didn't look nice either
Deal breaker/disasters:
- Screen - non bright, cheap looking
- I also didn't like the curvy screen. No benefits, as the image is displayed on front of the screen, not on the curves. Only adds to ridiculous and unnecessary cost of the device.
- Screen edges - round. Maybe this is Google's "Style", but falls into a complete disaster category in my book. Even worse - initial version of the software had these roundish corners on top, and at the bottom had three white software keys on black background. Of course when the menu was on, lower corners were squared. When you look at combination of round above, and squared below - you feel like you are not seeing right, and time to visit a nuthouse.
- Even better - with the update to fix burn in issue - menu became lighter / grey color, with transparency - with white buttons. When you are hitting the soft buttons - your mind registers as if you are hitting background.
- Support.. Google won't admit that they include screen burn in issue as part of their warranty. But they do - it took > 10 minutes in chat with Google Support to squeeze out of them the simple confirmation that burn in is covered by the 2 year warranty. So if you are unfortunate to end up with Pixel XL 2 and can't squeeze the confirmation from Google - IM me, and I will gladly share the conversation transcript
- Even better.. when you tap on the phone while it is off (and on too) - it is making hollow sound in the middle, hollow surface is approximately 2./3 of the width of the phone (in the middle) and 3/4 of the phone vertically (in the middle). This gives a feeling of a very cheap and uneven device which doesn't feel solid.
Outcome: Pixel 2 XL returned..
But the phone is still needed.. I looked on Ebay - there are many brand new Nexus 5 and 5X for couple of hundred bucks.. Also, yesterdays hardware is dirt cheap brand new. E.g. Lg G4 is $120. Yes, G4s randomly die, not all of them can be rooted, but still.
Nexues run Camera NX.. Also, just realized, that before Pixels, Google used to publish their camera software without limitations to their own hardware. APK sites should have old versions of the software. When you are looking for older hardware, remember that Camera NX needs 64 bit CPU.
If you are still on the fence, good luck with the choice! And remember that if you do not need latest and greatest - you can get solid performers (models from a year or few ago) for 1/5th of their initial price.
You may consider the camera.
Went from Pixel 2xl to 5t.

In hand the 5t feels slick and lighter than the 2xl. The 2xl I had it without a case and was able to grab the phone a lot better than I could with the 5t without a case. That being said yes both phone have fallen from my hands or from my lap when I get out of the car. The 5t is able to take a hit better than the 2xl. The 2xl casing cracked, the 5t casing only has scratches. Also, ive actually dropped the 5t in the bathtub of running water as I watched better call Saul while showering. I did Grab it quick but it was fully submerged. Phone still works. Sweet.
Didn't notice much screen size difference.
One other thing the lowest screen setting isn't low enough when laying in bed at night time, you'll need to download an app to make it lower. My wife has the pixelxl, her screen goes much lower than mine.
I grew up Google fan from original Nexus to Nexus 6p, pixel XL, pixel 2 xl. In an attempt to sell my slightly damaged p2xl someone offered me this new 5t in box with $300 cash in addition. I figured why not... I'm glad I did.
I stopped flashing ROMs due to always coming back to original stock with magisk.

Great, and regarding the screen quality / colors / contrast & black crush ?
I went from 5T to first gen. Pixel XL. Simply put, 5T camera is crap. I got a feeling that the problems with the camera wont never be fixed properly. If good quality photos are needed, I cant recommend the 5T.
Otherwise 5T is a great device and I liked it.
I'm switching from the 5T to a Pixel 2 XL (ordered with a good deal) just for the pure Android/fast updates and better camera. 5T is an awesome device specially for money.
5T is amazing. The biggest and pretty much only downfall is the camera between this and pixel XL 2, and I personally am talking from coming from the original pixel XL, which camera was also better there. If you can get past the camera, 5T is the way to go.

Also came from the 2 XL and I'm not one to try every flagship on the market before deciding which one to keep.
I had exchanged the 2 XL for defects twice. From touchscreen issues to dead pixel clusters. I eventually decided the display wasn't worth the price of the phone.
The blue shift is way over blown. Two of the devices I received had it and one didn't. It's not something that bugged me or noticed in daily use.
What did bug me was horrible brightness uniformity and graininess. And between receiving 3 different devices there were massive variations in display quality (color temperature, graininess, digitizer response). So it seems like buying one is like playing the lotto.
I miss the camera and the front facing speakers (no where near HTC m7,m8, m9 quality but better than the 5t).
It's a nice phone but it's not worth $1k.

I came from an original pixel to the 5T, yes the pixel camera was better but imo some pictures look more natural looking with the 5T camera. I guess it's down to personal taste. Low light photos the 5T isn't as great as the pixel but it's still a good camera on the 5T.
I came from the 2nd gen Pixel and would not hesitate to recommend the 5t. The screen on the 5T has better color saturation and higher max brightness. Scrolling/smoothness isn't quite as good on the 5T, but it flies just as fast. Dash charge is insanely fast. The camera on the 5T can perform just as well as the Pixel under the right conditions but I wouldn't count on it for every point and shoot situation like you can with the Pixel. I snapped the attached pic a couple of week ago and thought it turned out great with absolutely no editing. The Google cases were cool, but the OnePlus Ebony wood bumper is the best I've had on a phone and now that there's a sandstone white variant, it looks just as good without a case. The biggest reason for me to switch to the 5T was the developer community. Since you're on XDA I would assume you're in to ROMs and customization which has already exploded for the 5T only a month or so in and for the Pixel is pretty well nonexistent. Phones are pretty much expensive toys for me and the Pixel was way more expensive, offered a great experience, but was ultimately way less fun.

That's an awesome shot indeed, and a lovely looking dog
I think I've got a pretty rough idea of what I want in a phone, and sadly as of now, there is no such thing.
I'll probably be taking a 5T and see how I like it. I know the camera isn't gonna to be as good, but I've seen like every YouTube videos that exists on the subject in the past few days and I think the only way I can decide is to try by myself.
I will keep this thread updated when I'll be receiving mine if I indeed do take one, so that the people that are in such situation, having a supposed superb flagship and that are disappointed can find a bit of information switching to a supposed "worse" phone.
