OOS 5.0 (Oreo) which TWRP and which SuperSU - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Today I installed Oreo and am now stuck with default recovery. Did someone manage to install TWRP and SuperSu? Which versions?

Latest blu_spark TWRP should work. For root, I'd recommend Magisk (latest beta) rather than SuperSU.

What is the advantage of Magisk over SuperSu? Or simply because it works?

It doesn't break SafetyNet so you can still use banking apps etc. Plus it supports modules which can bring some addition functionality. And it simply works [emoji4]

Which version do I need? 14.0 from here?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Or a newer?
I found a how-to-install, but it sounds like rocket sience compared to SuperSu:

Sorry, I can't provide more info at the moment as I haven't tried this myself yet (still on AOSPA).
It seems that it is a bit more work right now to get Magisk working in Oreo, but if you follow that guide to the letter it should be fine.
I'm planning to flash OOS 5 and Magisk tomorrow so I can report back then.

latest 14.3 beta
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589
that thread is out dated, the current OOS Oreo now supports Magisk latest beta
so just flash rom and then Magisk 14.3 , and if you want custom kernel do it after that...
after flashing rom flash TWRP again then reboot to TWRP again and flash Magisk and anything else you want.

Use the 14.3 beta version and simply flash it. That tutorial was for Open Beta 25 or 26 when Magisk was broken on those builds. Open Beta 27 and up fixed that so now you just need to flash it. Don't know if 14.0 works but I wouldn't try it.

I just installed latest OOS 5.0 with blu_spark TWRP 8.52 and I rooted with latest Magisk beta 14.3. Everything working well.
*Before starting I backed up all the data on my 'internal data' partition.
1. Booted to recovery
2. wiped everything EXCEPT for 'internal storage' and then restarted to recovery
3. Copied full.zip and magisk.zip to internal storage
4. Installed full.zip and magisk.zip, in that order
5. Wiped dalvik and cache and then rebooted to system
In the security & fingerprint menu, the phone says it is encrypted but I still have everything that was on internal data partition.
All the best

root with Magisk on Oreo.

I was trying to get help on Reddit but I wasn't able to get any help.
I was able to find the Twrp image to Boot into but Magisk isn't installing when I go to try to install it.
I'm using 13.4 for my pixel XL and I tried 13.3
Any ideas why they aren't working? No errors in Twrp when installing.

Hello,
Not sure if Magisk is even working on O but you would want to flash a kernel like ElementalX first or the modified stock. Flash the kernel, then Magisk but again I am not sure if it is actually working yet. If you do get it installed and working be sure to report back to all. Also if you had SU + SUhide prior then you will want to flash the Magisk remover first, then kernel then Magisk.
Cheers

Yup. Just verified it doesn't work. I booted into twrp, installed ElementalX, then Magisk 13.4 and rebooted, still doesn't work.
Then I booted into twrp, installed ElementalX and Magisk 13.3 and rebooted. Nothing.
I also installed TWRP RC2 and it works fine. If you want I can upload the bootable image for twrp and RC2 that I used. At least now I have a way of testing it out (well, to keep testing it out, when I'm at work).

Correct
I'm using a 6p with a pixel on the way. I had it working on the 6p with Oreo. I'm pretty sure I had to download an apk as well as flash the zip. Have you done this?
the pixel has a special magisk version because of boot a/b system stuff from my understanding. So it doesn't matter if it works on any other google phone.
It sucks too because i heavily rely on magisk due to how good it is on hiding...goodwin_c is my only hope. hanging on a thread here...
If you mention other root hiding methods just know that no...they all suck lol

Magisk on the OnePlus 5T

Anyone had any success flashing Magisk on the 5T yet? I've tried + it flashes fine, but WiFi doesn't work; neither mobile data.
Semi solution:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/development/rom-freedomos-2-0-2-t3709708
The ROM comes with Magisk (I can't say first hand since I don't have a phone yet)
Yes magisk working but dont Format Data.
Hmmm, I have it without issues (I think).

@Theberge43 on the 5t not the 5 right? Did you flash v14 or v14.something i.e the beta version? Thanks!

@Theberge43 nice thanks! About to try
@Theberge43 yup that worked thanks! No idea what happened the first time - possible corrupt zip or faulty flash I guess!
Maybe I spoke a tad too soon. If I reboot, the modem goes again. If I then reboot, it comes back, etc etc. Weird!

At what point should not format the data? If you are on the stock rom, you have to go on recovery and directly flash magisk?
(When i flash magisk, i reboot always on recovery...and i can't flash FreedomOS with modified TWRP or Blue_spark....)à
I actually flashed the official version and not beta. Works perfectly fine on OP5T (latest OxygenOS update).
No problems at all with magisk. Not using any guide, just flashed twrp, dm-verity patch from jcadduono, magisk 14.0
Both 4G and WiFi work as expected.
v14.3 here with no issues. Was just in a badspot for the first screen shot. Went right back to LTE

Thanks for helping me, i tried Blu spark and magisk from your link, i'm getting bootloop again, No luck
for me - coming from a custom lineage 7.1.2 rom - it worked the following way (but it completely formatted the phone due to an encryption issue)
- flash blu spark TWRP for Oreo
- wipe system, data, cache, dalvik
- flash OB27 ROM
- flash blu spark again
- reboot to recovery
- flash magisk 14.3
Are you having a boot loop (phone reboots again and again) or is it booting up forever with the boot logo on the screen? you are describing both in your post.
I'm using 14.5 and ask works great here on OP27 Oreo was using 14.3 and that all worked great too and did nothing special part from install
Ok, i have the same problem, I am on OB28 and working SU root. i want to change to magisk, so I completely unrootet the phone and tried to flash magisk via newest twrp. But it stuck at bootlogo. do I really have to flash for magisk the twrp.enkgst? will it work then?
OK, solved, flashed spark twrp flashed magisk uninstaller, flashed magisk 14.5 I'm fine

[MAGISK] [8.0] ARCore with modded Google Camera

Hey,
I've created a small magisk module, with that you can use the Argument Reality function inside the Google Camera.
It works on AOSP 8.0 Beta and Stable, maybe it also works on nougat.
When you want to test it on other devices than the Mi A1, please don't forget to make a backup even if bootloop and such things are very unlikely.
Wehen you have a device where it also works you are allowed to create a thread, only condition link me and very important Arnova8G2 because without his work it would not be possible.
Installation instructions:
The modules can easily flashed inside the Magisk Manager or with TWRP.
To get it fully working you have to flash both modules

Which magisk version??

[Q] Magisk Error 1

Good evening guys
I have a Xiaomi 5s stock rom MIUI9 with TWRP 3.2 (capricorn)
I was using the old supersu.apk to have root privilegs. I remove it completly to install the Magisk but I'm getting error 1
Follow the pictures...
As you can see I have the unlock boot, twrp, stock rom and not rooted... Tried others topics and tips to install the Magisk but It wont work...
What should I do?
(Xiaomi forum I saw a guy he installed the stock rom and full restored and he continues with error:1)
Resolution:
Change TWRP 3.2.1-1 to TWRP ZCX
Download stock rom (same as you're using)
Open the .iso with winrar or other software
Get the boot.img and put it in smartphone sdcard
Reboot in the recovery mod
Select install and change to install a IMG
Select boot.img and the partition BOOT
Install the magisk (feel free to put any version, I used v14)
Reboot and enjoy!
PS: You dont need to unistall first your root because it'll be replaced when you install the stock boot.
Use magisk 15.2, make sure zip file not corrupt.
Even better use TWRP 3.2.1.1 and flash Magisk 16. That combination has some serious bugs ironed out.

I'm using the TWRP 3.2.1-1 is the same thing, I saw in Xiaomi Forum about the TWRP ZCX but I dont know what is the difference...
Does anyone have a fix to it?
Resolved, tip in the first post.
You could try the Xiaomi.eu ROM which has better support for rooting and adds some polish to MIUI (and also implements every weekly beta release of the official repo). Does require a clean install though.
