Headphone + power USB C adapter? - Google Pixel 2 Accessories

I have searched around and found no definitive answers.
Has anyone found an adapter which allows Pixel 2 charging + 3.5 headphone adapter simultaneously?
I am not looking for Bluetooth or other solutions. Only 3.5 headphone jack + power at same time. Thanks

The "Made for Google" Moshi USB-C to 3.5 mm Adapter/Charger seems to be available if you buy it from the Moshi website. I didn't go all the way through the purchase to see if it was on back order / out of stock, but the site does not initially indicate that it is, so...

£40! Wow. Thanks though. I am hoping a cheaper and more portable solution comes along soon.

Wow I went through the motion of buying it and I saw that expedited shipping cost the same as the actual product. Unless this is being shipped directly from China that is unreasonable. Damn thing can't weigh that much

Too bad the speaker dock is over priced (compared to Amazon). After tax, shipping, and 50% off, it comes out to $73.28.

Too bad they don't have the keyboard case either. Makes me wish THAT was a motorola product.
I was also confused about the shipping since when you add the item to the cart it says you can get free two day shipping and to select that option at checkout, but it still charges you for it.
cool, still worked, but not many accessories. Such as car charger, other gel case colors, etc. But otherwise I will try at a STD dock to hack and a keyboard for that price.

keyboard = $70
speaker dock = $130
car charger = $ 30
camera kit = $20

they take off an extra 50.00 because the keyboard is a bluetooth accessory

Wow, pretty nice deal. I want another AC adapter so I went to see how much it would be. Check this out:
$29.99 adapter

---------
$20.32 total
Now, if I just go to Amazon and look for the same product I can get it for:
$15.99 adapter
$4.48 shipping
---------
$20.47 total
... almost the same price. Too bad the coupon code wouldn't work on that one.
I looked around to find out more about the "Camera Kit Adapter". From what I can tell, this is an OTG cable and as long as you have Honeycomb 3.1, you can use it to connect a mouse, keyboard or game controller to your Xoom. However, you will not be able to connect a USB flash drive because the USB Host interface does not have the software support for USB-keys. A rooted Xoom with a custom kernel (I assume... but maybe custom ROM too?) may be able to support flash drives. Motorola may also add it in at a later date too.
Can anyone confirm or deny any of this?
I ordered an OTG cable from eBay, but of course it will be a few weeks before I see it, so I was thinking about ordering this too.

I currently use a flash drive on my Xoom. I'm using a custom Tiamet kernel and I'm rooted. It works awesome. I carry my Music and N64 ROM's.
Anyone know how the additional $50 off promotion works? I can only get it to work with the keyboard, but I already have one (which I dont need anymore anyway since I got the verizon folio keyboard case). I tried a set of bluetooth headphones, thinking it might be a "bluetooth" deal, but it didn't work.

Pixel 2 Does Not Allow 3rd Party Headphone Adapters

Info from Ohgami_Ichiro on compatible Pixel 2 headphone adapters:
There's more options now it appears.

These 4 appear to be the same with different brand names on them and they use a Realtek Chip compared to the Geekria one that uses a Conexant one. I don't know what the Google one uses though. Slight update it looks like the Razor one will be compatible so there's that plus the ones for the HTC U11 are as well although there is debate as to whether the one for the U11 and the U11 Ultra are the same with a new case design or us a different chip. But either way the HTC ones have a DAC in the adaptor so that makes it compatible.
So far the current list is:
Google OEM
Essential Phone PH-1 adaptor
Razor Phone Adaptor
HTC U11 https://www.htc.com/us/accessories-b...-3-5mm-htc-u11
HTC U11 Ultra Adaptor https://www.htc.com/us/accessories-b...mm-htc-u-ultra
Geekria https://www.amazon.com/Geekria-Headp...dp/B073Z47PSK/
I bought some $0.89 USB-C to 3.5mm adapters off of AliExpress, because they're dirt cheap and I know for a fact I will lose the one that comes with my phone. After receiving my Pixel 2 yesterday and plugging one into the phone, it says "Analog audio accessory detected - The attached device is not compatible with this phone. Tap to learn more."
I'm a little peeved that they decided to take the headphone jack out, make you use an adapter, and even more specifically make you use their adapter. I switched away from iOS specifically these kinds of reasons..
I assume the only way to remove this restriction would be via root?
Pixel 2 and 2 XL requires a digital adapter, which means it needs a chip inside. The one on the google play store is only $9, is a digital adapter, and also contains a DAC. There is no restriction that you can't use a 3rd party adapter, you just need to use a digital adapter.
USB c allows analog and digital audio, the pixel only does digital, your adapter is only analog (which is why it's so cheap).
https://www.androidauthority.com/3-5mm-audio-usb-type-c-701507/
This is very interesting! As is known, Google is focusing hardcore on USB C compliance. I was under the impression that since the pixel 2 does not do analog audio, it broke the spec, and was a bit confused why.
As per the error message you are receiving, it is clear the USB C port is reading the SBU pin's correctly, there is just no DAC connected on the other end. So i guess technically this is compliant...

Lack of analog does not break the spec, AFAIK. The spec allows, but does not require, analog pass-through.
I wish they did allow it, so we could buy cheaper adapters. However, that would require another DAC and amplifier in the phone.
Google made the right choice
Google made the right choice here. As not all USB C devices do not do analog out it is better to only do digital out. This is so you can use your USB accessories with other devices. Not allowing it is actually more complaint in google's mind then doing analog and digital out.
I tested the adapter that came with my Essential phone in the Pixel 2 and it worked fine. It has a dac inside it as well

I tried some el cheapos that also didn't work on my Essential phone, so I went ahead and ordered 2 more from google since they dropped the price to $9 a few weeks ago. Mind as well roll that into price of the phone if you insist on wired like I do. Sucky thing is they're not slated for delivery until Nov 17 – 18.
My advice would be if you need another adapter to buy the official Google one and not a 89 cent China eBay special. You must remember that embedded DAC is solely responsible for making sure your audio doesn't sound like ****. Don't cheap out and get a quality converter

Agreed the price sucks. But I'm cautiously optimistic that Google will drop that like they did for the regular adapter right before launch. (fingers crossed)
As per usual, Google pulled a Nintendo and did not make enough of one of the most sought after accessories for their flagship phone. The adapters are out of stock and any orders placed for them while they where in stock don't even ship until mid November. Lame.
Does anyone know if the Razer Phone's adapter will work on our Pixel 2? Would be interesting to try that THX certification out if Razer were to sell this separately from their phones.
Nothing looks simple, but i have found some things like this

I'm using a Dragonfly Red with my Pixel 2 (via an Anker USB-C to A converter) without issue, aside from the known low volume problem with the Red (which isn't as much of an issue for me as I mostly use sensitive headphones.)
I can't personally vouch for this because I haven't got it yet... but this adapter appears to have a dac.
Its pricey, but there if you need one before Google can get them back in stock.

This one is good. It was referenced in the 2XL forum. A user there did testing of audio quality and his result was it was just a little bit less than the Google supplied one.
Post for reference: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74352935&postcount=26
I have scoured Amazon and really at this time The google one and the Geekria one are the only one at this time. As more and more companies release phones without 3.5mm there should be more options. One other option I brought up was also that the iPhone adapters also have DACs in them so there is the option to get one and get a Lighting to C adapter.

I see that thing is BT 4.1. If it's low latency you're after, look for something that supports BT 5.0. Also if you're looking to use a BT receiver for music or the highest quality sound available right now, look for ones supporting both BT 5.0 and APTX HD.

I saw several options in the thread, but any of them are from amazon. I personally prefer the source - China, where everything from amazon actually is manufactured. Just've got car charger with dual sockets - USB-A and USB-C. It cost me $4.99 at sale, now $6.99:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Baseus-30W-Dual-USB-C-PD-Quick-Charge-QC-4-0-Car-Charger-For-Mobile-Phone/32919769665.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.17524c4dQHBim9
It's Baseus 30W Dual USB C PD Quick Charge QC 4.0 Car Charger. Nicely packed (perfect as a gift). Checked how it works - perfect for Pixel 3 and Pixelbook. Tested both sockets, no surprises, it USB-С rapid charge, in USB-A just charge. It comes pretty fast - ordered Dec 29, delivered Jan 11. It's not overnight, but you know - time is money. About phone folder I use simple one, without any build-it charger for $1.59 or even $1.19 for weird color:

Pretty strong spring, good grip. Again, similar thing at amazon cost way more. This is why if I see something interesting at amazon, I search similar thing at aliexpress and almost always find exact the same thing at approximately half price. Hope it helps.
Agree with Che. Most things on Amazon are overpriced. There's pro's and con's to buying overseas though.
My biggest concern when going through stores like Aliexpress or Wish is quality and customer service (in case you have questions, received the wrong product, etc.) They either take a week or more to get back to you, or don't get back to you at all.
The other issue is the obvious one. Shipping speed.
Other than those things, I've noticed the reviews on those sites seem completely fake. There's a lot of the same type of comment, someone's verbatim, for certain types of products. As an example, check out the comments for bluetooth receivers on Wish. It's easy to spot if you look for it.
Now even with all these things considered and even if they're all true, it doesn't mean the product isn't worth the price. It also doesn't mean the product isn't a high quality one. But how do you really know what you're getting?

The customer service is actually pretty good. Only twice nobody answered my questions, but they just silently refunded in full as I requested. Mostly they reacted literally in hours. I've never tried Wish, I use only Aliexpress or other sites from Alibaba group (you can see list of them at the bottom of their page).

Yeah, this is the real issue if you need something fast. Usually it is in a month, but in holiday season can be way longer (the worst case was 3 months, but I wasn't in rush). Again, as I mentioned - time is money. I was surprised this season - despite of warning of 60-day delivery, they delivered in less than 20 days (ordered Dec 10 2018, delivered before Christmas - wow!). Now many Aliexpress stores have warehouses in the US, so it can be even several days.

About quality and reviews - just use your common sense, like at ebay. As I mentioned, "if you see something interesting at Amazon" - so use Amazon's reviews to get a real review. The brandname at a gadget can be different, but remember OEM - they print whatever name you'd like, so if items look alike, they usually identical. Don't forget Google search, including image search. Also don't forget basic research of a seller - how long the store is active, how many positive reviews, what sort of negative reviews they have - some customers are just inadequate. Also positive reviews can be faked, negative - less likely. And. of course, you are right - it's easy to spot a fake one in both categories.
About returns - have never returned anything there, so have no idea how it works if it does. If something's wrong, a seller at Aliexpress in my case prefer to refund and leave you with a defective item. Once there was a shipping charge, so I discussed with the seller that issue and politely pointed that is illogical to pay for delivery of an non-working gadget and they agreed, refunding a half of the delivery charge, as I offered (I had two identical gadgets in my order and one was dead).
A little experience of interacting with Chinese stores - they value their names pretty much. They don't like to "lose face", so if you have a problem - contact them first instead of opening a dispute right away. Almost always we reached mutually acceptable solution. In case of Aliexpress, as I know, they have pretty strict policy there - if a seller hit 95% or less of positive feedback, Aliexpress will kick them out. This is why they are attentive, expecting your high (5 stars) feedback in return. It's better to lose some bucks, than whole business. Also keep in mind cultural differences - it's normal for a Chinese to see business relations as friend's relations. So don't hurt their feelings - it pays back. As everywhere.
Hope you are not bored to death by my long note.

I don't blame you there. I'd much rather go with something that is built in than an extra box you have to plug into a jack and hide somewhere.

Type c to 3.5mm jack.

All of us know that Type c to 3.5mm jack converter is not included in the box and i want to know that from where i'll buy it on oneplus.in it is out of stock & on Amazon some cheap companies selling it at high price. other than this the best substitutes out in the market.
[Update]
Purchased original one from Aliexpress arround INR250 and oneplus.in showing INR420
Buy it from any local shop. It will be much cheaper.
Take your earphones and test them on the spot (with mic/calling).
Regards
This bugged out even me. From what I've found out this adaptor has been out of stock for a very long time from the official oneplus store (There have been several complaints about it as this is something that is prone to breaking and getting lost).
In order to get them offline I tried getting in touch with the oneplus experience store. I tried calling them multiple times they but they never picked up. So then I went to the store personally only to find it was out of stock, and would take at least 2 weeks for them to get it back in stock(If that happens).
Then I tried my luck with multiple local stores but none of them had it.
Now, getting to the important part. I've been researching about it for a while now and might've finally found an adaptor which would most likely perform on par when compared to the stock oneplus adaptor and is of good quality. It's the Mi adaptor.

For Indian costumers: We can use Sharesave App to get the adaptor.

I have the Mi adaptor and can confirm that it works perfectly with Oneplus 7 and the sound quality via earphones is as good as my OP6 with 3.5mm jack. I got the adaptor from Xiaomi Store for only 10RMB (around 100 INR) while visiting China 2 months back.
Ordered from eBay some cheap cables. As soon as I get them, I will let you know. They are advertised to work with OnePlus 6T, 7, 7 Pro. I can't see a reason why it won't work since OnePlus 7 has an analog connection, DAC is inside, unlike other phones that has digital one. It's like before, when the phone had a jack 3.5mm, only now the connector is different.
I got this from Amazon :
https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07T3V8LTM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2zknDb9N1375W
However, others are not able to hear me talk while using the headset's mic.
It's way too low they say.
I use Sennheiser cx275 s. I've been using it fine since 3 years. I tried the adaptor with another headset. Same observation.
Is anyone else facing any issue when using the headset mic connected to adaptors?
I bought a local adaptor but i was barely able to hear anything the other person was speaking and it was the same on the other end too.
Official Oneplus 3.5mm to USB was available in stock yesterday and day before but now i see its out of stock. I did order one yesterday and should receive it tomorrow.
I saw it in stock about a week ago. And it was in stock till yesterday, I guess. I have my 6T's adapter which works just fine on the 7. But ordered another one, just in case.

Bro.. i m new to this forum kinda things hence if any issues found please ignore & sorry for late replyin
What kinda earphone you are looking for .... if in-ear earphones is your priority then purchase a connector of oneplus only as the sound quality delivered is very good and also it is very good in quality and usage.
If in-ear earphone is not your concern then buy LETV earphones with usb type C ( which is white in colour ) which is very good in quality far more better than oneplus bullets and it has Led light in its earphone which is an added advantage ( it looks very Unique ).
Hope i solved your query ..
Cheers:good:
I ordered a Type C to 3.5mm Jack Adapter today from Oneplus.in,
So anyone in India can check out oneplus.in as it might be still available on oneplus.in

Any Amazon adapter to recommend? Something that can allow to listen to music AND charge the phone at the same time?

Yes. Same issue.
Tried different adapters, different headsets.
Tried the DAC adapter too.
One common issue across all adapters is that the opposite person gets to listen to me in very low volume.
This is a big big problem. Still trying to find a solution.

Type c dongle and headphone cable not working

Not sure if I'm missing something. But I've been trying to get my shure se535s working with my note 10+
I first bought a type c to 3.5mm dongle which didnt work. So I then purchased a rather pricey type c to mmcx cable to replace the entire cable for my monitors. But that doesnt work either. Device just plays audio out of the speakers.
The provided headphones work just fine (be it they are runnish).
Anyone got any ideas?? I wasnt bothered about the headphone jack removal at first as I had 2 options but neither of these seem to work
I plugged in the headphones that came with the phone and the connection was horrible. I literally had to hold them in because if the phone moved it would disconnect and then my phone call would come out of the speaker not the headphones. I just think the typs C connection sucks.
I have the Shure BT cable and I use BT most of the time. I purchased it off of Amazon. Works great. I also suggest getting Comply replacement foam tips.

You have to get a certain kind. Some brands of adapters don't have a built in DAC. Go get a Samsung branded one from Best buy and see if it works. That's what I had to do.
Isn't there a DAC inside the phone?

Have to have an adapter with a DAC. my $10 one off amazon works fine.
I use this one and it works great:

Apparently not. I asked the same question on reddit and people said the same thing. Samsung didnt put an in built dac to convert the signals over. So cheap dongles dont work. And nor does my over prices $90 shure cable... but a few people recommended the google branded one used for the pixel. And amazon reviewers confirmed it worked with the note 10+

I can't comment on that one, but since I've dealt with this issue from my Pixel 2XL, there are adapters with both the DAC and a power in, but with both ports on the end of the box. That side mounted power input looks awkward to use.
I bought this one, but I'm trying to find it to test with the Note 10+. So I can't confirm it works just yet. But anyway, having both connections on the end is much easier to work with.
There are also others with slightly smaller "boxes" or different shaped boxes, so pay attention to that as well. When I find this one and test, I'll update.

Edit: I confirmed the one I linked above works with PD, or at least it says fast charger connected and estimates 34 minutes to fully charge from 79%. So far, all the adapters and headsets I tried that I bought for the Pixel 2XL have worked with the Note 10+. So I think when shopping on Amazon, things that are compatible with the Pixel 2XL are compatible with the Note 10+.
I personally hate that they do this. They have to convert the audio for the speakers and then they just got cheap on not doing the same straight pass through connection for the USB C connector. Those USB C adapters are dirt cheap, though the ones with a DAC chip have come way down from when the only major phones that needed them were the Pixel 2's and the Essential phone or whatever that thing is called.

I'm assuming it does. I usually get a "weak charging" message when I use non-fast charging-compatible chargers. I've not seen that appear on my 10+ yet.

I received the dongle you linked to, today. Fast charging works when you don't listen to music at the same time when charging. It doesn't bother me though. I'm very happy with it ?

Tried a a few cheap adapters. All won't work. I found one Basues adapter that worked but the sound either dies or becomes mono when you touch the metal parts of the adapter.
I have this 3.5mm to usb c dongle from galaxy tab s5e.
Surprisingly, it doesn't work with note 10+. Only works with s5e.
Not sure why.
Anyway, the usb c headphone works in both device. So I only carry one.
I guess people will need to buy dongle from samsung as usual dongle not working, even the only from samsung for s5e.

The connection is firm for me. You should get an exchange or something.
again use apples dongle. its working for me no issues and its 7 bux.
If you go on ebay you can find the razer phone adapter. That seriously has a punch twice as loud as other adapters and powers bigger headphones way better. The 24 bit DAC is awesome.

You can get it from the razer site. I'm in UK so here's the link for the UK site. I'm sure it's available on other regional sites
https://www.razer.com/gb-en/mobile/razer-phone-audio-adapter
You can also find it on ebay for cheaper.
I've tested on note 10 plus 5g, one plus 7 Pro and mate 20 Pro and mic and volume buttons work fine
