flashing roms - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

I'm new to Xiaomi phones. But from what I am seeing is, you have to format data Everytime you flash a rom to avoid boot loop. Is this true?

I only format the data when I change from global to eu rom. Within global I or within eu rom I only wipe data and it boots fine. In fact between eu roms and aosp roms like RR, Xenon,... I also only wipe data. You also have to wipe system, cache, and dalvik cache.

- i am on 7.11.6 global beta
- as revovery, there is twrp installed
i cant update with the update app, because i have twrp installed.
My Question: how to update without loosing my data? Just download from miui.com and flash with twrp? And which version i have to download?

You should first backup your 7.11.6 global to the micro sd card just in case. You can only backup system and boot. I do not think you can backup your data. However you can just wipe cache and dalvik cache then flash V9.1.1.0.NDEMIEI (MIUI9) global. You can then keep your data. If you flash the eu rom you will need to format the data. If this is the case you will lose your data plus the content in your internal memory.

I forgot to mention. When you flash V9.1.1.0.NDEMIEI (MIUI9) global. Your twrp will be replaced by the stock recovery. Before you boot up you should backup this recovery for future use. If you ever get boot loop with the recovery you can get into fastboot then use the command "fastboot format userdata". You rom will then boot up normally.

Questions about LVM and flashing ROM

Hi, I have an Oppo Find 7 model X9076 (monitor 2k) with original ColorOS v2.1.5i (android 5.0) and unified partitions (32 GB total space not 3+29).
I wanted to upgrade it to omni-7.1.1-20170402.
I have TWRP installed and I have the following zip files: "removelvm_find7_FULL_WIPE.zip", "setuplvm_find7_FULL_WIPE_09012014.zip", "omni-7.1.1-20170219-find7-WEEKLY.zip" (i also have the latest one), "open_gapps-arm-7.1-micro-20170223.zip" (i also have the stock one), and "UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip".
Question time:
1- I tried flashing supersu (version 2.46), everything goes fine, i clean chace/dalvik than reboot, I start the supersu app and it asks me to update , i try updating but always fail and the phone keeps being unrooted. How can I solve this issue? Is it possible to upgrade to omni 7.1.1 without root?
2- In order not to have issues do i have to flash omni than flash the lvm zip or viceversa?
3- In order to have one single partition of 32GB which file do i have to flash? setuplvm or removelvm?
Thanks everyone for helping such a noob-modder.
Flash latest twrp image. If you already have unified partition through colorOS, then no need to flash setuplvm or removelvm. Just wipe data, system, cache, dalvik and flash latest Omni followed by gapps and then in the end flash latest SuperSu 2.79. Reboot and pray for yourself
Hello I have an Oppo Find 7s x9076 too.
I don't have unified storage on my phone.
My question is, what I have to do to get lvm?
Is something like that.?
Steps:
1. Nandroid backup,
2. flash setuplvm_find7_FULL_WIPE_10282014.zip
3. Reboot into TWRP
4. Flash OmniROM, gapps and superSU (can I flash the 3 at same time?)
Or I have to make a full wipe before all this steps?

Pie Firmware Rom?

I just unlocked my Mix 2, but doing some looking before rooting. Is there any Roms that will work on Miui Beta Global 9.5.16? If all custom Roms are using 8.0 firmware, i guess i will wait to root this phone. If there is a Rom i can flash being on 9.0 firmware please let me know where to find it. Thank you.
Use the xiaomi.eu Roms, they are original Chinese MIUI Roms, but without any Bloatware Apps

If you browse through the forum you will find that most pie rom's have moved or are moving to pie firmware.

How do I flash this rom? I never had luck with Xiaomi.eu roms but this time Imma do it again if I find someone who has working instructions.
Which recovery do I need? I'm currently on TWRP 3.2.3.0 (the official one from TWRP website)
What I do is
Wipe Data, Cache, System, Internal Storage everything. Even format data. Then copy the rom over into internal storage and flash it. Wipe cache again. Reboot system.
It always is stuck in loading.
Edit: I'm on Havoc OS-Pie currently.

Im on 9.5.23 eu, just wipe data caches system. If you are encrypted format data(im decrypted so i dont format sata) if you format sata reboot recovery and just install the zip. First boot may take longer than usual.

Wiping partitions

I have a Mi 9 se and i don't understand how the partitions work on this device (coming from mi 5) If i wipe system or cache or formate data from recovery after first flashing twrp it reboots into fastboot and i need to do a full rom flash again via mi flash tool. Can someone please explain to me what the go is?
Ok so after more attempts. Obviously you need to let it boot the rom before flashing twrp, but wiping system causes twrp not to boot still, can someone explain? thanks.
Thanks
System is where android is installed. If you wipe this it can't boot into android because it's not there so it boots into twrp instead. What are you trying to do?

I do realise that but wiping system shouldn't be an issue as the new rom will install the system right? The issue is that wiping system causes it to reboot to fastboot not recovery and i can't get into recovery again without reflashing the rom from mi flash and installing twrp again.

That is odd, you can can flash the rom without wiping system though I think as the rom will overwrite system anyway

Does it matter if system isn't wiped when moving between a MIUI based rom and an AOSP based rom?
@morgs640, it does: wipe is necessary. Some install-scripts contain a 'wipe system', otherwise you've to do it.

How to install xiaomi.eu when coming from an AOSP custom rom

How do i install xiaomi.eu when coming from an AOSP custom rom?
I was using Paranoid Android Quartz 4 (AOSP) for a good while now but it i want to go to xiaomi.eu because of the better battery management and other features.
I wanna know what's the right procedure to flash the rom. I am going to include the rom and custom kernel plus magisk on top.
Im confused as to which to wipe and/or format. Like which to do first and such before flashing the rom, kernel and magisk.
I'm using OrangeFox recovery because TWRP doesnt work on mine. Phone is ginkgo.
Thanks for the response
Wipe dalvik, cache, system, vendor, data. Flash rom, magisk. Reboot. If you face bootloop (most probably) then format data partition. You'll be okay.

Should i format data partition before flashing rom or should i do it after i face bootloop?
Thanks for replying
Format after flashing ROM. Formatting before flashing will wipe out internal storage.

TWRP Data encrypted. (Didn't have any lock pattern or code)

I tried installing Corvus OS 14.5
Here's what I did;
1.Downloaded and placed rom .zip into my phone files.
2.successfully Installed TWRP 3.5.0_10-UNIFIED
3.Wiped: Dalvik/ART Cache, System, Vendor, Cache, Data
4.Went to the install section, all folders in random letters and numbers.
Help!
And how do I get out from this situation.
Reflash stock ROM (MIUI 12) and try again with TWRP and Custom ROM.

I already did. Though, I think I should find a method to prevent this.
