is lenovo z2 plus worth buying? - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

i'm planning to buy a phone to keep for atleast 2 years., and i got 3 options. MiA1,Redmi Note 4 and Lenovo z2 plus . The primary requirement are battery life, reliable performance and decent camera. Due to it's powerful processor i thought of giving z2 plus a shot. therefore my questions are how is the battery life really? i'm not a gamer and i mostly browse web. I heard that the camera lens of z2 plus is plastic and scratches easily and is lenovo providing any software updates as of now ? because updates like Airtel VOLTE is much important for me if i'm going to use my phone for 2 years .

Go for mia1(good camera) and z2+(performance)

First of all, to clarify, the camera lens on ZUK Z2 Plus is glass and not plastic, and matches the decent-level requirement you have. So you should definitely consider buying it over Mi A1 due to its superior processing power.

you sure it's glass? since the lens on mine has micro scratches everywhere, although it's not as bad as some sony xperia lens

I am using Z2 Plus and I would agree, MiA1 has much better camera but it's priced higher at present compare to Z2 Plus.
Given the price of Z2 Plus, it's a steal deal if you can compromise with night or low light photography since under daylight, Z2 Plus camera works just fine.
The main attraction of Z2 Plus is the SoC. Nothing comes close to SD820+4GB combo unless you spend at least 3 times more to get the nearest 800 series competition.

Go with A1. That's all i will say. I have Z2 and my sister has A1. The performance difference is really negligible between 625 with clean android build and 820 with crap OS.

I have the same 'problem' but between MiA1 and Zuk Z2 (the normal one, not the plus).
I don't know which buy but I like the 5'' of the Zuk

I've Z2. And if it gets bricked. I would buy it again. It's all a matter of priorities. If you use camera like 15 Pictures Daily, don't but this phone. But if you want to own Flagship grade specs, feel how fast is 2.1 GHz and how much is 4GB RAM, know how fluid Android Experience can get, then buy ZUK.
Since you posted your question here, you'll come to the difference between 625 & 820.

Well I think both models have the same processor, I don't really now which buy, Z2, Z2 plus or Mi A1

Just buy zuk z2.
Then unlock bootloader and flash any oreo rom with hdr+ enabled.
That ll solve your camera problem.
Camera is nt everything. Performance also matters.
And snap 820>>> 625

MiA1 very good camera avg battery
Redmi Note 4 jack of all, master of none, but good battery capacity
Lenovo z2 plus master of all minus low light camera and 5inch if you like,
you will have to use custom roms for updates and better performance at low budget you will get this.
so choose between priorities

Used RN4 first, it lacked the performance and camera. But had an awesome SOT 11HRS.
Then my friend's MiA1 for a week. The camera was awesome but battery was meh and performance was okayish.
Now rocking z2 plus, awesome performance with sub-par camera.

Experience and support for Mi Max

Good day. The reason for this post is that i considered to buy the Mi Max after 4 years using my Z Ultra. And needed some opinion on how the experience of using one....comparable to Z Ultra, i think this is a nice upgrade to my old phone considered the screen size and camera.
I also like to know hows the support from dev for Mi Max....

Being someone who had a Z Ultra as well (only for a few weeks though) I can say that any of these phones are better than the Z. The camera had no flash so in low or no light the camera on the Z was useless. The speaker was very low and tinny on the Z. The Z had huge bezels and the battery life was not all that good. Once Xiaomi releases the kernel sources we should have more roms. The Redmi Note 3 had the sources released and seeing as the Mi Max is almost the same phone but larger I would assume we would get the kernel sources soon. I would definitely upgrade your Z Ultra to a Mi Max.
Max price and size as well as decent specs puts it in for a long life of dev
There's Miui.en, Miui.eu, and cyanogen mod already. It's a great buy for 6+ devices. The device has THE best battery life in the whole world.
One criticism is average camera, but that's really it.
Sent from my MI MAX using Tapatalk
I had lenovo K3 Note very good device lots of support paid twice as much for the miui max for nothing too bulky and 0 support so I wish I had not bought it now just buy the Redmi note 3 pro it s cheaper better support I think cm14 is out for that device already but do your search it s not a as great as you might hear and that is just my opinion
Oukitel K10000 with its 10k mah battery is biggest battery in the world, but you never worry about the Mi Max battery anymore, especially if you have a quick charger plug, it lasts for a long time.

Which MI to get?

Hey everyone, I'm debating upgrading to xiaomi from my note 4. I could need some help deciding.
I don't really care which snapdragon it is. Both the 820 and 821 are a massive upgrade from my note and that's doing everything fine.
I'd like something smaller, but have no problem with 5,7" if there are benefits to it.
I'd like the opportunity for some kind of stockish rom. I don't flash daily anymore and am very familiar with miui since the original htc desire days. So miui is fine, but having the opportunity to go for lineage or aosp if i feel that way would be great.
So basically:
mi5s, mi5 or mi5s plus?
The mi5 64GB comes in at 277€
The mi5s 64GB is 307€
The mi5s Plus 64GB is 357€
Edit: I might also throw the Note 2 into the discussion. It's 200€ more expensive, but the bigger battery and the epic looks really are attractive.
My open questions: there is basically no development for the mi5s atm. Is there something to be expected? Is the mi5 still competitive or is it slowly eol? And for all options: Is the Ram upgrade to 4/6GB worth the price tag or is 3/4GB fine for you?
Any input to help me decide is greatly appreciated:good:
Mi5 has better camera for video (thanks to OIS) than Mi5s, otherwise they are very similar. Mi5 is longer out and thus has more chances for a custom rom. It does look like there will be some CM support (or whatever it is now called) for the Mi5s, there is one build here in the forum.
No idea about the 5s Plus.
Memory management is hard to say, but Android loves to have ram, so in general it's better to have more than less. Then again, this really depends on the ROM too.

If the screen doesn't bother you, I would buy the mi5.
: Better camera
Cm support
Deeper development here in XDA
PS: I have the mi5s plus 6gb 128 and I'm stuck in MIUI that I don't like very much. I going to continue to use my axon 7 until he has cm support

Mi5 doesn't have better camera than mi5s!
The mi5 has OIS but apart of that nothing else is better. The MI5s camera makes much better photos.
In fact it's so fast that I almost never have to make a photo twice, I very rarely get a blurry picture.
I would get mi5s 64GB. The materials are much better.
CM is still WIP but when Xiaomi releases the kernel sources it will be a much better phone.
With the recent Stable Global rom it goes like butter, didn't notice any problems.
By the way, the MI5 is 257$, the 64GB mi5s is 288$ and the 128GB is 348$

I'm with @dabyd64.
Mi5s has better construction than Mi5 (Aluminum vs Ceramic).
Mi5s is a little heavier (around 15g) and around 1mm bigger at 3 axis (difficult to tell a diference side by side).
Mi5s and Google Pixel have the same camera sensor, one of best as today.
Mi5s take better photos and regarding video Mi5s have EIS (at 1080) that is working better than Mi5 with OIS.
It could be better if Xiaomi invest on image processing algoritm like google did on pixel mobile.
Right now, Mi5 has better comunity support because was released first, more users, and kernel sources already released by Xiaomi.
I doubt Mi5s will have better support than Mi5, but i'm pretty sure we get the major roms.
Mi5 has infrared and could work as a remote control, this is the unique feature loss on Mi5s.
For me, Mi5s all the way. I would avoid Mi5s plus, if you really want a proper dual camera implementation -> Huawei P9.
We have to understand that a dual camera solution is all about image processing. For me, Xiaomi implementation was a failure.
If you need 5.5" screen size i would go for oneplus 3t.
Mi Note 2 has an oled 5.7" curved screen with te same 1080 resolution, so lower pixel density.
I really hate curved screens, and it's a pain to protect those devices.
It has a bigger battery, but generally bigger screen more consume, on the other hand oled consume less than lcd, you have to analyse sot.
200€ more relatively to 300€ it's significative, i would say put 200€ aside for a new one later on.
Not OP, but I would like to say thanks to @BPSoft and the other people who answered this question, as I'm in the same boat right now. Want to upgrade from my Mi4, and considering Mi5 and Mi5s. But the price is too close.
Do you think it is worth waiting for Mi5s price to drop a little bit more before buying? I am not very keen on using it with MIUI8 (jury's out for future MIUI 9), so I would be waiting for a custom ROM (CM, AOSP, ...). What do you think?
Custom, somewhat stable, ROM could be a way off for the Mi 5s, as the kernel source hasn't been released yet. At least there is a global rom now for the Mi 5s, but I'm not sure if that can be bought preinstalled. Not a big thing, but maybe waiting one more week (until CES is over) might mean a tiny bit lower prices.
Mi5s is at its lowest price ever, though (about 265€ for me). So many decisions... but I think i'll go for it.
Even if not preinstalled you can always unlock bootloader and install the global ROM, corect?
This is correct. Actually, if you run the official China build, you can simply download the Recovery Rom to the phone, open the Updater app, select the rom and it will flash it. No unlock needed. Works also with some, but not all, "shop roms" (globalized non official builds).
I want to thank everyone who gave their opinions. It's much appreciated.
So, if its xiaomi, mi5s it's going to be.
Currently the axon 7 is an option too. But, i'm debating squeezing some life out of the note 4 and waiting for those sd835 phones to hit the market. Might be mid year, that those come. And sure enough xiaomi will have a new mi with this SoC. Then, either it's cheap enough or the mi5s will get even cheaper... decisions, decisions.

For a 5.5" screen size, i prefer Oneplus 3T, huge support here at XDA, 6GB Ram, SD821 instead of SD820, 64/128GB internal space, but without sd card support.
See here for a comparison:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8416&idPhone2=8067&idPhone3=7260
Regarding photo quality:
http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=8416&idPhone2=8067&idPhone3=7260
As you can see 20Mpx says nothing about picture quality :cyclops:

I'm more optimistic, i expect "Mi6" release at March, like it was with Mi5. SD835 is expected. If i could, i would wait!

So it depends if you want OIS or faster capture. For my opinion cm development to mi5s Will take some time, soon we will have the mi6, so that's always the same thing , when we have some development there's another upgraded device that came out. We'll stay stock whit MIUI .

What I really liked is the screen / size ratio, I think it's one of the 'smaller' phones which still has really good specs, decent screen and of course dual sim.

Should I buy Lenovo Z2 Plus ??

Hey guys
So I'm here asking about the question in the title
I want to know whether the kernel sources are released by OEM or not ?
And I'm getting this phone for only 15K INR
Is there any android developement like custom roms possible on this phone ?? OR should I buy redmi note 4 which has a better support ??
I don't want to switch devices for few more years
Please help me here
That are two phones hard to compare.. snapdragon 820 vs 625, 5inch vs 5.5inch etc, fingerprint on front vs on the back etc... how should we know what you need or want?
Both are great..
And for custom roms > how about if you look into the roms, kernels, recovery.. section? Dont be so lazy man

Warning: Very long story
My purchase of 3Gb variant of Redmi Note 4 was final but could not buy it (everything happens for a good) as delivery was not available by flipkart in my area. I was very sad and finally decided to buy a new, seal packed Redmi Note 3 from ebay at Rs. 9300 (Rs. 10400 was listed price, after applying coupons it became Rs. 9300) as it had performance and recently got franco kernel too (previously available only on Pixels, Nexus and One Plus devices). Finally saw Lenovo Z2 Plus on Snapdeal for Rs. 12000 and immediately purchased it (was hesitant at first reading reviews on Amazon but could not resist SD 820 at this price).
The phone is great, no heating issues and was much better than Redmi Note 3 (Screen quality, camera quality, general performance, looks) when compared side by side as my friend had one. Battery is also good, I get 5-6 hours Screen on time on 4G network with hotspot on and around 7-8 hours SoT on WiFi.
About development, both devices have great roms but Redmi Note 4 has no custom kernel as kernel source codes are not released currently but may or will get them in future when sources are released. Also if you want to be like a trickster and change TV channels of any TV in lobby of any hospital/Hotel, go for Xiaomi phones as they have IR blaster.
The Z2 Plus recently got official Nougat whereas Redmi Note 3 and 4 are still on Marshmallow but that does not matter as you are planning to use a custom rom and all three have 7.1.2 Nougat custom roms.
Conclusion
If you like very good developer support with some good performance, go for Redmi Note 3
If you like development with superior battery life, go for Redmi Note 4
If you want a phone with sheer raw power and the one that does not slow down even after 3 years and a great value for money and brag among friends, go for Z2 Plus.
Currently Z2 Plus is available at Rs.13000 at Snapdeal but wait for amazon sale on 11th, previously at an Amazon sale, it was available for 12K and if you get any bank discount (sometimes 10 to 15% off on SBI Card etc during sale), you can get it for 10-11K too.
Go for the black one, it looks very good
Hope this helps
You can also watch reviews and comparison of phones on youtube for better decisions.

I am absolutely agree with hp5942's statements. Development for Z2 is only growing, it will be awesome in a few months. Note 3 has one of the best dev support and will have it for a long time. Note 4 is better looking and feeling than Note 3, but it is less speedy device.

My friend still has no performance issues with his Mi4 (SD 800, flagship at that time) even after 2.5 years.

Why do you guys confuse much. Its good phone for the price. For 13k you are getting snap 820

Why to get confused. There are minor software hiccups. As you are familiar with xda you can always use custom roms
Hardware wise there are no issues. Build quality is damm solid. I have thrashed my phone many times, but it still survives.

(Actually 11k - 1.5k cashback)
So wait for any amazon sale

For those not used to pimp their phones (unlock bootloader, flash rom etc...), i think Zuk Z2 is not a good choice as the original version is not perfect. But if you like to flash and customize your phone, so yes, 10 times yes,it's a very good phone (have it for almost 1 year and still happy with it).

Confused between Mi 5 & Mi5s

Dear All,
I need to buy a new phone & getting confused between Mi 5 & Mi 5s
Please suggest which one is better over all.
Mi 5 3/32 or Mi 5s 3/64 GB
Price difference is only 30$
Thank in Advance
Mi5s is a upgraded version from the Mi5 with a better build quality, bit faster processor and a better camera. So in my opinion it is really worth those 30 dollar with current custom ROMs making great use of these plus points.

MI5s ultrasonic fingerprint reader was advertised as very accurate and fast and you could unlock phone with wet or dirty fingerprint, but in real life that's not true. From the beginning speed and accuracy wasn't so great and few months ago my fingerprint reader just stopped working.
Google is full of links like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/5glh5l/xiaomi_mi_5s_fingerprint_sensor_the_worst_i_have/
I regret i didn't buy xiaomi mi5 or oneplus 3.
Which were firmware problems. Those were fixed recently.
/EDIT: To be fair I think for most people the Xiaomi A1 is a better choice. Excellent build quality, Android One, much better battery life, more network bands and a nice low price of 180 euro's at the moment. Unless you game a lot, you probably won't feel the difference in speed all that much.
Example (other shops have roughly same prices):

Or if you want better battery life you can go with Xiaomi redmi note 4 or Xiaomi redmi 5 plus, but they don't have band support like A1 and stock Android. If you don't game too much, everything with Snapdragon 625 or similar would be good enough for everyday usage and battery friendly. Also you can consider buying Huawei honor 9 lite or Huawei honor 7x.
Buy MI5s for its camera. FP is okay don't worry not as fast as others but if that is your main point I have to laugh.
Well, the build quality of Mi 5 is a bit worse.
I strongly recommend to buy Mi 5s instead of Mi 5. It's the improved version of Mi 5 with full-metal body, faster SoC, better camera sensor(same as the Pixel).
I'm using Mi 5s and I think fp is ok.
Better buy neither of them, they are both ****y phones, buy something from oneplus or mi 6/mix 2.

Oh, it's so helpful to writing this without telling any reason.
Battery in this phone is joke, fingerprint scanner works 1/10 of the time, ram management does not exist.
Again, just update the firmware...
It won't help, trust me
Fingerprint working near perfect on my Mi 5s with latest Global stable ROM. I really like my Mi 5s 128GB, only battery time could be a bit better, but that's the CPUs fault mostly.
Also have a look at the Mi 6 which offers optical image stabilizer, which the Mi 5 also has, but the 5s sadly lacks.
I have previously owned both 5s and 5s plus. 5s has good build quality and camera but bad fingerprint reader and mediocre battery life. The larger sibling, 5s Plus is much better IMO. More vibrant screen, slightly faster performance, much better fingerprint reader and battery life. The image sensor on 5s plus is worse but still takes good images if you install the ported google camera mod. I would also consider Mi Note 3 or Mi Mix 2.

The image sensor on 5s plus is worse but still takes good images if you install the ported google camera mod. I would also consider Mi Note 3 or Mi Mix 2.

Did you have the Mi5S long enough to install the firmware version of the first of March? That one has given the big change. Before that, the FP sensor was indeed not very good.

No, I sold mine in february this year. I am suprised that they finally fixed the FP-reader (one and half year after the release).
I think everyone is
Battery life and FP reader are solved in Miui Pro BETA by Belorus team. Non beta roms all have bad battery life anyway. I do talk here with gaming and without. Now i freely use it all day

A3 Let's talk

Here are the specs
https://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_a3-9769.php
What is your opinion, is this a good or bad choice ?
That moment when you record with selfie camera 1080p but your display can show only 720p
Do you think there will be A3 Pro ?
In my opinion Mi A3 is a step backwards.
MI A2 has a better display and a better SOC despite the fact that it's an year older. In-display fingerprint scanner and wide lens are good additions but simply it's not enough. Having an HD+ display in 2019 in a mid-range smartphone is crazy. Snapdragon 665 is worse compared to SD 660 in terms of Gpu performance. Very disappointed by Xiaomi.
Totally dissapointed. I will keep my Mi A2 with 6/128 gb.
I'm also disappointed with the A3 specs the cc9 on which it's based gets the 710 processor and 6gb ram so why is the A3 getting less? I'm still running an A1 which I've loved for 2years was hoping this would be an easy choice.
I'm also trying out Havoc on a mi pad 4 might end up with a Chinese market phone that havoc supports......
I have an A1 and was hoping that A3 would be a no brainer for me. I guess i'll stick with it for a while now... 720p screen is a no-go.
Let's wait and see if there will be any "Pro" version of this phone.. Even A2 Lite has a full hd screen.
Mi A1 still a decent device for me. It doesn't really look like an upgrade

Best smartphone under 300 PPI
I don't really care about the capacity, S660 is still good for me, but I've expected NFC on Mi A3 for Google Pay... :crying::crying:

They put the stupid infrared port instead of a NFC sensor. It cost nothing. Also 720p display.
It is a 2012 phone for 250 euros!
What about battery life? It must be interesting. 720p amoled display + 4000mah battery + energy-saver chipset must be good for longer battery life. A cant found any battery life test, and sot time info so far...

This. I'd take one if it has good battery optimization (*cough* mi8 w/ miui 10). I'll take better battery life + super amoled over higher res screen anyday.
Unless your usage revolves around an app/site that doesn't support zooming (ie. gmail), 720 vs 1080p has no noticeable difference.
source: current phones: mi8, a1, axon 7 mini, mi4c, nexus 4.

Yes its enabled, i saw one video where was checked Manual Camera Compatibilty app
Im thinking about ordering, but i need infos about battery life, but nothing was found yet
Ordered one (64GB)today on Gearvita for 237USD = 212€ with shipping to Germany. If somebody is interested, you get this price only with coupon code "ROMiA364G" wich you enter during checkout. Original price is much higher. I come from A2 and hope for much better Camera (perheps with Goggle Camera if API2 really enabled) and better battery life...
since on GSMarena Mi A3 and Mi CC9e compare almost equal, I wonder if the 128/6 GB CC9e would be able to run Mi A3 Android One and Mi A3 firmware. I also wonder if Mi A3 and Mi CC9e are A/B devices regardless of internal storage size.
@Dior DNA
Like previous generations, the MIUI counterpart (in this case, Mi CC9e) has legacy A-only partitioning scheme whereas the Android One variant has A/B one. Frankenbuilding should be possible, but complete conversion is a complicated job.
i think it's a marketing stunt - and if it's not, i feel real sorry for them. it's still a lousy move on their part.... as soon as they've pushed a first batch of converted cc9e-s (aka mi a3) they will magically release a mi a3 pro based on the standard cc9 which will be an awesome phone. it fixes everything bad in the mi a3. (screen, nfc better soc) while still keeping everything that's nice about the third gen android one. amoled, big battery.
even if they dont release it, if the cc9 gets good developer support (considering the sources are already out i hope it will) it's gonna be my next go to phone.
L.E. they only reason i see that they didnt use the cc9 is politics. with those specs it would directly compete with the pixel 3a at half the price.
