Coming from N6P - Can't restore apps, no "Which Device" screen during setup - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Hi all,
got my OP5t and initially set it up without my gmail account because I did not have my 2nd factor with me. Now, I wanted to restore apps and settings from my previous phone (Nexus 6P that hard-bricked itself).
Doing it the "official" way, there should be a screen saying "Which device" during setup so I can restore apps from my prev phone. So I factory reset the 5t to go through setup again. However, this screen does not show up at all. I checked the backups on google drive, and the N6P backup is definitely there. I tried to reset the 5t to factory settings and run through the process again, nothing...
Is the reason that my N6P backup comes from an oreo device and the 5t is "only" nougat? No backwards-compatibility with backups? If so, any ideas on how to "fix" this? Or am I missing something else?
Thx

No ideas as for the problem itself sadly (as everything google lately, it's a bit buggy f'd up...) but can you restore thorugh nfc / bluetooth ?

Unfortunately no since my N6P hard-bricked itself So I'm afraid the only way to get my original data would be through the backup on GDrive

Same problem here. I had to create a new device.
After some try n6p find the op5t, but no backup.

[Q] TWRP problem with Copilot & Whatsapp

I made a nandroid backup with TWRP, it backed up fine and restores fine, but 2 of my apps Copilot and Whatsapp don't work properly after the restore, I have to re-verify Whatsapp because it thinks it's on another device, a message says that it can only be installed on 1 device per phone number, and Copilot just tries to start up and then dies, the only way I can fix it is to delete it's sd card folder first, then it opens and has to be set up and maps downloaded again as if it were a new install, so it looks like that also thinks it's on another device.
When restoring I clean/delete everything first, (factory reset/system/cache/dalvik cache), as I have always done, had no problem with doing this on my last phone (Galaxy Nexus), also using TWRP, and with 2 other phones (Galaxy S2 and HTC Desire), both with CWM.
Has anyone else expereienced this ?, I suspect there's other apps out there that will do it as well, it seems to me that the device id is changing, but then Titanium backup would recognize that and offer to restore it, so there must be something else that's either not getting backed up or not getting restored or both.
I was thinking of switching to CWM and trying that but thought I'd ask on here first, because I don't want to switch unless I really have to, so any idea's comments would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Dave.

Still working on mine running 5.1.1, also. Aside from the fact I can't find the 'no lock screen' app, or whatever it's called, FoxFi is working AOK. I even did a factory reset, even though the phone was working fine, to try to confirm a battery issue I think I was having where it would seem to drain a bit faster after upgrading from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1 with a slight layover at 5.0.1, where if I remember right, I didn't unplug the phone, I think, before moving on to 5.1.1. I'm copying the backup I made of the internal storage back to the phone right now, and after that I'll perform a full apps+data restore with Helium, since the internal storage is where the backup is. Hopefully, that 'no lock screen' thing will either reappear, or I'll find it again on my computer or here on XDA. The last time I had to deal with using FoxFi unlocked, it drove me nuts not being able to the lock screen I prefer.

Thanks for the link. As soon as I clicked download, I found the thing in my OneDrive downloads folder:silly: By the way, if you've never used Helium to backup/restore your apps before, it'd kind of goofy. For some reason, whenever I use it, it sometimes wants to make me run the procedure multiple times. Like earlier today when I performed a full apps+data backup, it did the whole thing in one go. But when trying to restore them, it wanted to hang on a certain game for a while, after which it stopped with 88 apps left to restore. It should all still work, but this is the first time I tried restoring a backup with Helim, so hopefully the way it's making me work it right now won't be a problem. If it does, I may just have to resort to using My Backup to backup the apps and Helium to backup the data, unless there's a better backup/restore app that does what Helium does, but a bit more reliably.
Is working now, I did a factory reset and reinstall everything . I backup everything first with Helium....

Bluetooth not working after restore

Hi Guys,
I had to flash a restored backup after my Google Play Service crashed so hard that the only chance to use my phone in a proper way was to restore an older backup.
After this my bluetooth didn't work anymore. No chance to start it. So I opended settings => apps and couldn't even find the bluetooth apps. Only app related to bluetooth was the widget app.
I think the problem began when creating the backup and something went wrong so the bluetooth apps weren't included. Yesterday I did a factory reset but without success
Is there a way to re-flash these apps/drivers or will I have to flash the original Software and loosing all my settings and so on?
Thanks for any help in advance :fingers-crossed:
Stock 5.0 / 5.1? Stock 6.0? CM12.1 ?
sorry, I forgot to tell you my OS
it's rooted stock 6.0
How did you create your backup ?
If you used TWRP, did you wipe Dalvik Cache between flashes?

I've had exactly the same issue. (also after a nandroid restore) RUU'ing the phone did the trick for me.

thanks for your answer
I'll try it within the next days
I also realized that boom sound isn't working anymore. I guess this is the same problem as the bluetooth issue
just did the nandroid again and bluetooth seems to work again *crazy*
Now I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if it really works with my car's audio system
edit: after two days of testing I can confirm that bluetooth is working without any problems :highfive:
but boomsound still is not available. But this is something I can live with

Question issues backing up my Pixel 6 pro to google one

anybody else having issues backing up their pixel 6 pro to google one
Heh, you're right, same here. I hadn't noticed. Stuck on "Starting first backup..." (that I started yesterday). Same after a reboot, stuck on "Starting first backup..." and unable to choose "View details".
not seeing any issue here, backed up 54 minutes ago.
I just tried reboot, clearing app cache and storage for "Google One", and I manually ran the app again. So far stuck again on "Starting first backup..." with a grayed out "View details" button.

I also had this problem on my first day and couldnt manually force it. Then after one night on the charger with wifi on, it just automatically did the backup and now it works (shows backup completed).

I got the phone two days ago and I started the first backup after the OTA, all apps were updated, and I had unlocked the bootloader. I had no idea it thought it was still showing as doing that first backup and hadn't rebooted since that first day. https://one.google.com/home does indeed show only my old device. Weird. I'll check back in a week.
Edit: Interestingly, my wife never manually opened her app until I just asked her. It was weirdly defaulting to show her Yahoo email address, but she switched to her GMail account, proceeded the rest of the way into the app, and it shows her that the backup of her Pixel 6 Pro is complete as of 22 hours ago.
Yup....same issue here.
Also can't get messages chat features to show connected.... Been saying connecting since yesterday
I just checked and the Google One app now says that my most recent backup completed four hours ago.
I had this issue too but was able to fix it by going into Google One > Settings > Manage backup settings & turning on "multimedia messages" & then hitting "backup now" & it now seems to have now completed the first backup.
My phone will not back up.
I'm rooted with canary 23013 & UNSF 2.2
On Google One, call history device settings have 0 data. I think the SMS backup contains media only, since SMS was 0 KB until I enabled media backup.
Anyone else having this issue?

How long has it been like that? If you only first noticed the problem today, check back in a couple of days. Mine's been backing up regularly at least once a day since mine started working two days after I noticed it wasn't working.
It's been like this for 6 days. I'm thinking about wiping and troubleshooting as I add on mods. Usually I rely on Google backup to restore all my settings and I might have to do a clean wipe and rely on TiBu to restore what I need. Anyways I appreciate the feedback! Thanks

Aigh! Sorry to hear that. Good luck troubleshooting, hope you can either narrow it down or get it solved one way or another.
The weirdest thing is that it asks me to enter in my passcode when I back up through settings, but not the Google one app. That's probably where the issue lies. I'm guessing it's a permission issue that's not allowing The backup manager to read SMS, call history, and the device settings.
Factory reset resolved the issue

Probably, a glitch at the time to tried to.
No issues with Google one on my P6P either. It says last backup was 12 hours ago.

Tell the setup that you don't have the old phone to restore from (via cable). It'll then proceed to offer cloud restore.

Question Data restore after wipe

For some reason I'm unable to find restore backup, where do I look for this? You would think it would be beside backup but no, and can we not back up all our apps?
There is no separate restore. It will (should) offer to restore during the initial setup after a wipe. Supposedly, it will also restore when you sign into your Google account. More info here.
And, Google incorrectly calls it a backup - it isn't. It stores info on what apps were installed, and re-installs them from the Play Store. If you sideloaded any, you have to do it again. You also have to re-login to most apps. Finally, it will only reflect the state at the last "backup." If you want to go back to what you had a month ago instead, you can't. If you had older versions of some apps, because the newer were broken or whatever, you're SOL. It will restore some settings, like wallpaper, the position of app icons, SMS messages and call logs. But overall, you will still have a lot of work to do to get your phone back to the same as it was.
If backup is "really" important, would you recommend and give a "thumbs up" to the Swift Backup application ? Recently, I woke up and discovered my old backup ( Titanium ) was now failing in its job and transitioned to Swift.

During the initial setup of the phone, at the point the phone offers to have you physically connect your phone to your "old phone" via USB-C, there's an option to click telling it you don't have the old phone available. Once you choose that, it takes you down the path of restoring from the cloud backup instead.
Naturally, you have to have it connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data before that point, preferably Wi-Fi but should work either way.
