[Q] Improve Sound quality in videos? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Has anyone been able to improve the sound quality of videos? Possibly figuring out a way to turn off noise reduction completely?

[Q] Snapchat recording time jacked on CM based ROMS

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this problem; but on any CM Rom I am having problems with Snapchat in terms of recording time for recording time. For some reason it is not maximized (or doesn't go to the time allotted). The video stops extremely short, and only gives about one second of recording time. Does anyone that uses this know why?

I'm also having this problem, mine just records about 5 seconds and plays back like 3 seconds.
Has anyone found the fix for this?
This is still a problem!
Has anyone found a fix or a workaround for this problem?
Bump!! Running uXylon. Very short Snapchat video recording with both front and rear facing cameras. And i'm not sure if this is could be related but the video recording quality in Instagram is terrible -- very pixilated.
Sorry to bump this thread, but I've found the fix is to go into the settings and change the video quality from standard to low quality. Hope this helps everyone!
I have also found you can set the camera quality back to standard after performing the previous fix and the issue seems to disappear.

All you have to do is change the camera settings to low, and the camera orientation to 180 and it should work! I had this problem as well.

This does not work!!
Had a dream about this... Try going to Camera app and go to video setting, in the recording setting change the video to a lower one. Then go back to Snapchat and see if that works for you. Mine was at 1080p and when I changed it to 720p it started working amazing. Try setting it lower if that doesn't work for you. Mine was only recording for 1 second and would stop, after this I can record the full length allowed now. Let us know if this works for you

Tried this. Did not work.
Also, the in-call sound have kept disappearing, so I can't hear the person I'm talking to.
I'm changing rom to Jedi X today, excited to see if all of my problems will be solved.
Did anyone find a solution? I'm having the same issue and none of the solutions above worked for me.

I want to fix the speakers

Upon using this device for few days, I found out how bad the speakers sound. The highs are extremely muffled out. I also found why it sounds this bad. There is a significant bass boost effect already applied, and you can't un-bass-boost it. You can check this in the equalizer settings in Google Play Music. In fact, after I messed around in the eq app I downloaded, turning the highs way up, it sounds significantly better. But still, it can't give the same effect as reverting the bass boost effect. That's why I want to know if there is a way to override the factory settings and revert back the bass boost effect. And yes, I don't mind the root methods.
Try V4A?
Hey there, we're going to make some audio adjustments so sound should be a markedly better.
When should I expect this update?

Very keen to know when this will be released as well. Just using basic notification sounds, I get dreadful 'hissing' as the sound file tails off. Its really bad. Vibrates like crazy watching videos. It's definitely over eq'd and/or too much gain.

Is that gonna be a software update?
Right now, we're not sure if this audio tuning will make our next MR update, but indeed it is a software update that can help with the audio.
It's been a month. Do you guys have a plan for the next update?

I'm also excited for the next update. Sounds like you guys are fixing all my issues at once (camera, speakers, and heat). Basically waiting for that before I sell off my nexus 6p.
Received the update! It's freaking amazing how much the speakers and the sound output has improved. Didn't expect this much of improvement. Thanks guys!

Yeah I hope so too. I use an eq app to turn the volume down. Also is it just me that the left and the right channel of the audio switches for a split second randomly?

Does anyone here have a successfully working plan for Viper on Robin? I've ended up having to adjust the CPU through Kernel Adiutor in order to eliminate crackling/popping while on ViperAtmos Stock 4.7. I just want this phone to sound great. Otherwise, it's perfect. Thank You!

What adjustments did you make? When playing music and screen turns off music stutters horribly. Unbearable.

well when zooming it tries to get sound from zoomed place i think as long as you dont zoom in concert its okey.. but say you takinga video to a person talking just one and zoomed on him you get better sound and louder it tries to catch the sound from zoomed placed or person on screen. thats a feature thats how it is.

A scam?
Im lost, was there a link that was removed that i cant see?
The video that was posted (That i can see) definitely seems like you have excess white/background noise. Are you running a kernel? if so return to stock. It seems almost like a noise cancellation error, you can read about it in a few places, just google "pixel microphone problems"

Do you mean excess video noise or sound noise?
In lowlight, you can't expect the video to be free of noise. It has to boost the ISO to keep the video going at the full 30FPS, boosting ISO leads to visual noise.

I think He's talking about the audio noise. When you listen to that video, It sounds like his phone mic is in front of a fan.

Video Sound quality

Hey guys,
anyone else experienced bad video sound quality? I found out, that the phone saves videos with 96kbps sound, wich is an explanation why the sound is that bad. But can we do anything against it?

I too am experiencing this issue. Not sure if a fix currently exists. On another note, when I purchased this phone i was hoping for more development support! It may still be early, but not too impressed so far!!
I also just got bitten by this crappy audio when recording videos. It absolutely sucks! Will using a different camera app fix it?

I dont think so as I am already using cam mod.
There must be some audio postprocessing going on. When I record audio with an app (Easy voice recoreder) and choose microphone "Main (unprocessed)" the sound is good. If I choose just microphone "Main" the recording is very bad (the same distorted sound I get in video recordings). So the phone can record good audio. The question is how to record unprocessed sound in video.
The bitrate is 96kbps with no way to change.
I have logged a bug here:

Please confirm the bug and it will get the attention of the team at Xiaomi
i have found a possible solution on the post below, see if it helps (by Callemusicman)

"So I've found a solution, or at least a temporary one
Get the camera app called Lgcamera. In this app you can manually set your audio settings.
Set it to AAC and set the stereo option to On (this did it for me atleast).

I made a little video about it since I couldn't find this solution before, hope it helps!

soo.... to answer to myself it does not work, the audio quality is still 96kbps, I had an idea to record audio separately.
if you start recording only audio with an app like "easy audio recorder" and then you go to the video app and record. the recording audio app won't stop recording its quality is gonna change to 96kbps (bad)
EDIT: yeah, it sucks, only xiaomi can fix it.
I have found a trick to record good audio see my post below.
