Quick Charging Power Adapater - Razer Phone Questions & Answers

Since the 17th every night when I charge the phone it makes a very low humming noise and its at its louldest when the between is low. at 25% if become a little better and after 40-50% its not so noticable however I just wanted to check if this is normal as i am getting mixed views from Razer Support.
Is it normal for the charging block to make this humming noise?

I've got the same issue. I have posted all the details on my other post check it out. I think razer have flopped with these wall chargers and/or usb c cable. Its not quick charging although it states rapid charging and having gone through two wall chargers already, first one was quiet and this new one i have has that humming noise your on about.

I've got 2 phones, neither charger hums, 0-50% in about 30-40 mins, 50-90% in about 40 mins, 90-100% 30 mins. 0-100 takes about an hour and 50 mins. (well, it was at 4% to start)

That's fine I'm glad it wasn't just me being that fussy guy I've read online it's not much to worry about as I had a coiling graphics card which made the same sort of hum but eventually that went away or I got 1-2 months older and my hearing couldn't pick it up anymore.
Razer have now said they will send me a replacement charger out to test and will give me a self address package to return the charger - so let me keep the one that works better.
Shipping from HK they still want it back to make sure I'm not claiming a free charger from them.

I finally got the replacement charger from them which did fix the problem i was having with the noise coming from the charger block.

I also received the replacement charger, seems to fix the noise issue. However I am yet to understand the Quick Charge on this phone. It says charging rapidly but it definitely does not charge rapidly. Charging at 1900mA throughout is not quick charge technology.

My original post has the details.

Got some more info here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/razer-phone/help/audio-volume-reduction-fix-usb-c-cable-t3721761

apart from the noise issue i had with the original charger the charging time itself im failry happy with along with the all day battery life even with a little gaming and netflix/youtube streaming.

Odd. I plugged my phone in at 15% when I got the warning, and I am looking at it now and its fully charged. I want to say it wasn't even a full hour but... I confess I didn't look at the clock.

[Q] Charging Takes Forever???

Hello,
So I was at about 10% when I went to bed last night (around 11 PM). I plugged my phone into an outlet charger (the one that came with my old Nexus 4, not the one in the G3 box) and when I woke up (645 AM) the phone was only at 65% charged? I can't imagine that it would take over 7 hours to do a complete charge. Has anyone else experienced this? The only thing I can think of is that my old charger produces less output than the one in the box, but I haven't tested it out yet.
Lou
Try it again with the actual g3 charger so you can know for sure if it's a phone issue or a charger issue.

Over the past few weeks I have been testing all kinds of chargers and cables. I noticed that the G2 charger is the closest to G3 but not as good. The issue is the cable itself. Kopi 20awg with oem charger, g2 will work, charges at the same speed as the original one.

Did your phone stop charging in the middle of the night? That happened to mine on the first night when I used an old iPhone (1000mA) charger. It just quit somewhere in the 60% range. Switching to a higher powered charger (iPad - 2100mA) it charges very quickly. On my desktop at work, the USB3 port I have charges at an abysmally slow rate (prob 500mA or less, and in a lousy reception area so it's burning 100-200 of that just keeping the network alive).
The boxed charger, btw, is 1800mA.
Thanks for the responses. I will try the charger that came with the device overnight tonight and report back in case anyone else has similar issues.

The phone/battery are literally 2 days old. Can't imagine it's the battery already. I will do some more troubleshooting since is obviously not a common occurrence.

try wiping battery in cwm if helps, and install super charge as some custom build roms are buggy.
My Xperia ZL wouldn't charging from getting too hot in the middle of the night. I would wake up to a very low battery. Between the screen waking up, trying to find a signal, and covering it with my pillow it would get too hot. Haven't had the issue with the G3 yet but I have woken up to the screen on and that stupid battery fully charged message.

my scren doesnt stay on when battery is full. it will light up for a brief period of time and then turns off. the green led stays on.
The nexus 4 charger is probably rated at a much lower amperage 1.2A actually https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_4_Power_Adapter?id=nexus_4_charger&hl=en
However your cable will also play a big role in this. The rating on the cable will determine whether or not it will actually allow that much current to pass through it. The stock charger works great, it chargers in less than 2 hours from 0 to 100%. I only use my nexus 7 charger to charge my spare battery on its cradle which is no big deal because it doesn't need to be fast.
Mine takes about 2 hours and 20 min for 0 to 100%
That charger may also be sending dirtier power because it's older too. I'm amazed at how fast mine charges. I haven't timed it, but it has to charge over 35% in an hour if you start at around 20%. Hell, I have started wirelessly charging with a Powerbot (connected to official charger) at about 15% at night and woken up a few hours later and checked the time and the thing was at 100%.
RESOLVED
OK, this is resolved, seems like the issue was in fact the charger I was using. I used the one that came with the unit and it charged up no problem. At least that issue is solved in case anyone else runs into. Thanks everyone.

[Q] Slow fast charge?

Is everyone really getting the 50% charge in 30 mins? It feels like I am getting about 1% per 1 min of charge time on average. Not sure if that is normal or I have a defect somewhere? Also, is fast charging safe to use for every charge session or is it meant to be used once in a while for emergencies? Thank you.

Really? Did it charge like that from the very beginning or did it take a few charges to get to that speed? I think it takes me like 1.5-2 hrs from real low to full charge with fast charge enabled.

I used to get those insanely fast charge times; however, recently my phone has been charging slower (with fast charging on). Not only that, but, for some reason, the original wall adapter stopped working twice now. The first time it freaked me out because I thought my phone was messed up, but it turned out that everything was working except the adapter. Then later, I found out that if I reboot my phone with the adapter plugged into the wall, the charger will magically start working again! This worked for one or two charges. Today, I found that my phone was, again, charging extremely slow. Not only that, but my phone stopped charging after around 50% and the adapter is broken once more. I've tried the reboot thing three times and it didn't work again T: So now I'm kind of worried my phone might be defective?
Has this happened to anyone else with charging issues?

I haven't ran into anything like that yet. Who is your carrier? Maybe you can take in your charger and battery to get it replaced? Can you try charging with a different quick charging phone or something to narrow down if it's the phone or charger's fault?

Although I am fairly certain that my issue was the wall adapter portion of the charger, I just found it strange that the fast charging function failed to work properly around the same time when my wall adapter started to fail. Hopefully I am right and nothing else was wrong, but I thought that I would say something in-case I was wrong
As for getting it replaced... I bought my Verizon Note 4 at BestBuy off-contract and when I went there, they claimed to not have any in stock. They never really bothered to ask if I wanted to replace it even though I brought all my receipts and junk so I just took that as I wouldn't be getting a replacement haha :crying:
If anything I'll probably end up just buying another fast charger from samsung later, but for now slow charging is fine I guess. The fast charging did make both my device and charger hot, so maybe that was the problem?
edit:
I do not have any other quick charging devices (to my knowledge), but the wall adapter - combined with various other cables - continued to fail with my other phones as well.

Weird, I need like 1.5 hrs to get from 15% to full on fast charge and about 1.75 hrs for 15% to full on slow charge.
i timed my 1st charge. 57 min from 0 to 100. phone turned on and screen off.

Do you know if it's safe to use fast charge for every charge up? If it shortens battery life over time, I'd like to know this now and only use fast charge sparingly.
Yes. It shortens battery life. By using the only charger they give you, you essentially cut your battery life in half. It's a conspiracy by Samsung and the makers of the materials used the batteries

Pretty sure that was sarcasm. I'm less sure about your comment, though. ;P
I read it in American Android, first December issue. They did a study. Only way to avoid the battery dissipation was if you only used the fast charger at night, and Sundays after noon, but before 1pm PST. fascinating article. It's amazing what a group of students at Yale who love Android can actually accomplish.
I think I can work around that charging schedule. I am also going to subscribe to that magazine now.

Very slow charging

Anyone else notice that with the supplied charger charging ins't what it should be. My iPhone 5 charged almost twice as fast as this phone. I find it kind of annoying. I did order one of these chargers hoping that solves the issue.

No its not. Especially when your using the phone and its on 5% plugged in. Takes forever to reach 6%.
I'm having literally no issues with charging from dead to 25% in about 15 minutes. 2 hours to 100% im very happy with the speed of charging and this is using my m8 charger as the m9 one is still sealed in box.

I've been using the GS4 charger, with a high output cable. The Samsung charger is 1.5A where the HTC m8/m9 charger is 1.0A
the supplied charger is definitely giving 1.5 amps to mine. charges up pretty quick. with a quickcharge 2.0 charger it's crazy fast to charge.
One thing to note is it will take a faster charge the lower the battery level is, which means more heat. if you're also gaming with it, you could be bumping against the battery charging cutoff temperature. I only ever saw this happen on my Tegra HOX+. IIRC HTC has the notification LED blink in alternating green and orange/red when this happens. I'm guessing you would have mentioned temperature in the OP if this was the case, but I figured I'd bring it up.

Sorry, meant it was 1.5a for HTC and 2.0a for the Samsung one. Didn't have them on hand to check.
iPhone 5 battery is 1,440 mAh... M9 battery is 2,840 mAh. 50% charge of Iphone battery doesn't equal 50% charge of M9 battery, in terms of charge time.
I believe the rate of charging to decrease while you use it to prevent the phone from overheating. (My M8 does this as well)
My stock charger is fast, and my quick charge 2.0 is crazy fast.

Yeah, this. I got an HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 for it just to be sure since I knew with certainty it's Quick Charge 2.0. In retrospect perhaps not the best move considering I'm essentially incentivising HTC for not including one in the box from the get go, but whatever.

Yup i got the same issue gonna take me 6-11hrs to charge and its very slow charging
I had a similar problem to OP. The second night I had my phone I plugged it in at 11 pm with about 5% battery left and went to bed. At 5:15 the next morning (6 hours later) it was only at 85%. I can't tell if there's still a problem or I just think there is because I'm paranoid about it now. I haven't run my battery down that low since, and looking at the charge current with Ampere seems somewhat inconclusive. I may have to run it down and then keep an eye on it while charging to see what's going on.
Something IS wrong with SOME M9 phones (I think)
I have one of the "bad" ones. Mine takes hours and hours to charge, whether on the cable and plug that came in the box, or on any others that I have around - some I know are 2 Amps. I think there is something seriously wrong with some of these phones, based on what I am reading in this thread, and on my own example. I have had my M9 for just a few days.
I'd like to post a follow up to this thread after having the phone for a couple of weeks now.
I've had several occurrences where my phone didn't fully charge overnight. The worst was a few days ago, I plugged it in at 5% and the next morning (6-8 hours) it was at 1%, it actually lost charge. I noticed before unplugging it so I looked at the history in Battery Widget Reborn and it showed the battery level just slowly dropped from 5% to 1% without any jumps or dips. The battery icon at the top of the screen showed it was charging but it died at that point so I didn't get a chance to open Ampere.
I think it's the charger (and/or the cable) that came with the phone. I've tried several other chargers that have all worked reliably:
- The QuickCharge 2.0 charger that came with my wife's S6 charges my phone really fast.
- I have a Kmashi external battery that also seems to charge it relatively quickly.
- Two older chargers that are several years old (both rated 5 volts at 0.7 amps) charge it from around 30% to full in 3-5 hours.
At first I thought it might have been a wakelock problem, but the battery has been dropping so slowly when the phone is just sitting in my pocket that I'm confident now that it's not wakelocks. I don't know if HTC is likely to send a replacement, but I'm going to stop into the Verizon store that I got the phone from to see if they'll replace it.
Gilligan
My phone is also odd when charging.
Half of the time it takes 6 hours or more to charge. If I look at GSAM battery monitor it shows a charge current of around 350mA. If I then unplug the charger and reconnect after 15 seconds I get over 1300mA charging current, most of the time. (It takes GSAM a while to show an accurate reading). Occasionally it will take a few tries to get it right. Once I get a good reading over 1300mA the phone will charge in 1.5 hours like it should.
Something very buggy about this phone's charging circuit. I get the same behaviour with all chargers and cables, even my battery bank.

Make sure the charger you received has the output at 2A. I've seen some come with 580mA (I don't know why.). It should be 2A, and charge quickly.

That's correct. I don't know why it's taking so long to charge for you. It should charge a lot faster. I put mine on the charger at 48%, and it was at 93% an about an hour. Maybe it's a defective charger, or even something wrong with the outlet. Does it happen on all outlets you plug it into?
yes i have tried all outlet but same effect on every outlet!
my friend have the same device it does not have any problem at all. so i thought exchanging charger now i have to wait to until the battery is empty.
hope this will work
Fast charging or quick charging can be affected by either the wall charger or the cord itself. Since the specifications on the wall charger look correct I would suggest try another cord.
A lot of the ones you buy at say a gas station, or a grocery store or just poor crappy cords, and only really meant for charging and not even data throughput, just your "basic" charging cords, meaning no fast charge or anything so it can take forever to charge your phone.
I had this issue where had a Samsung fast charge wall charger, that I use on every phone I get, and yes it does work on every phone I have tried it on, so I know it does fast charge.
What I ran up against was the cord being the problem, I went thru like 2-3 different cords before I found one that worked right, and it took me near a month of frustration and trying things before I finally figured out it was the cord, not the wall charger.
I have the same problem too, my moto E4 plus take more than 4 hours to charge (20%--->100%)
I use too the original charger and cord.

What's up fellas? I just got one of these yesterday and it's having some serious charging issues. In my case, it's not the charger, it's the phone. I think the problem is that I just got it and I'm not leaving it alone while charging. Too much setting up going on and stuff like that. Not to mention, I'm a Real Racing 3 junky. When the phone gets hot it slows down the charging to try and stay cool. My 2 amp charger is working fine, but the charge rate the phone is allowing is only around 300-400mAh when it's hot. I was wondering if one of you guys who's phone is charging very fast could try charging it under stress and see if it slows down like mine does. If yours still charges fast while hot, then I'll know that mine is defective and I'll take it back. One quick and easy way to tell is with the Ampere app. I actually made a little review/tutorial for it on YouTube if you'd care to check it out. Anyway, I'd sure appreciate if one of you could let me know if I need to exchange this one. Thanks a lot guys. By the way, I know it's not the charger because it's putting out 1800mAh when I plug it into my S5. Thanks again.

My e4+ took 2 hours with the 10 watt (AC) fast charger that came in the box with it. I'm using a much slower DC USB 2.0 charger in my vehicle and it normally stays status-quo while charging. I can go a solid 4 days between charging, but I normally re-charge the device while I sleep.
I have been using moto e4 plus from last three months and it usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours to charge 100%.
Hope It helps.:good::good:
My moto e4 plus suddenly stops charging at 80% i put it there for half an hour then I change the outlet, then it charged very fast 80-100 in 20 mins..What is the reason behind this?

This is driving me mad, no more super fast charging?

I charged phone previously and after 70 mins, it was fully charged. Today, left it in to charge and returned after 80 minutes expecting it to be 100% as usual.
But now it was as in the image. What is going on?
And yes, obviously, this IS the factory charger.
Very odd. 13 minutes later, charger is very hot... And not it jumped from 44% to 70%.
But the estimate is still 37 minutes, which seem to be very long time.
I thought the super fast charger is the 45w charger that you need to buy separately?
No, I meant then fast charger, the 25W provided with the phone one.

The charger is receiving an improper voltage from the outlet, either that or it's not plugged in all the way.
I plugged in my Note last night and it started heating unusually, same for the wall charger. Come to find out the wall charger came loose and was halfway into the wall so it was giving an improper charge and making both the phone and the charger heat up. It was reading "fast charging" but not putting the regular ETA of around 50 minutes that it usually takes.
I put the charger in a much better placed outlet and made sure it was in all the way and the problem went away.
This might be the case. I heard the charger or the socket making funny noises so I reconnected it and it went to normal.
I was wondering these days about it and I think the estimated time was wrong... Today I tested it having 80% battery with the original 25W adapter and the out-of-box cable, it took about 15min to reach 100%, but until the 90% mark, the AOD indicates 33min to 100% and it jumped after to 22min and 8min when 97%...
So, IMHO, the problem in with the charge time estimate...

The charger is receiving an improper voltage from the outlet, either that or it's not plugged in all the way.

Check that outlet! Sounds like a neutral/ground fault!
Ground wire is acting the neutral return.
All the fast chargers slow down when they reach about 90% charging to keep safe the battery. In any brand of phone.
