Mi Mix 2 display problem? Ghosting / glow when scrolling. - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

After a while I used the new mix 2, I noticed that the text smears when scrolling. There is a glow behind. As if there was a problem with refreshing (?). In my previous Lumia 950 xl phone with amoled, nothing like this happens.
Is this a faulty display? Maybe installing another rom will help?
After the first switching on, the system has been updated to 9.1.2.0 global stable.
Display code: jdi fhd video dsi panel
Did you have such problems? Video below.
Thank you for the advice.

I did it but it did not help. I also tried to force the GPU in the develovey settings.

This is just what an IPS display is like. AMOLED has significantly faster pixel response time, IPS has significantly better color accuracy. I came from an AMOLED phone myself before getting the mi mix2, but I've been noticing it less and less as I've gotten used to the phone. If it really bothers you and you're able to return your phone, you definitely should because this is just what the display will be like forever.

I've noticed the same issue.
Did not have this with the original mix.
It's really annoying.

I same problem with Mi Mix 2
But did not have this with my Mi Mix 1.
Note: Mix 1 , Mix 2 same IPS panel
(

Is this present in all mix 2 or are some displays ok?
I've had several phones with ips-display, including Xiaomi note 3 and 4, and I have never seen smearing this bad before!
Too bad no reviewer picked up on this...

Image Retention

Hey guys, got the phone for a few days.
already got burn ins from whatsapp. the white textbox is two times burned in (keyboard/without)
if u open up a dark grey picture u might see it as well.
just have seen it by an accident when opening "simple gallery", its base backround color was grey, so i found the burn ins.
i am not sure if all displays are affected by the burn ins, i will return mine :/
oh no. can u install aida 64, click on display, whats the panel id.
I've been using mine for almost 1 month and I have no image retention (btw it's image retention, it goes away . Only amoled's burn -in)
tianma td 4310.

I got the tianma td4310 as well.
Thx for your answere. This morning it was a way better. I know that only amoleds were known for burn-ins. so yeah, seems like it´s only "image retention", anyways for just a few days usage i am pretty disappointed.
will keep the phone for now and hope that it´s not getting worse

Are you on MIUI or some custom rom?
If you are on a custom rom, go to display and then to live display and then to colors and from 100% go to 95% to all of them. This happened to tianma panels on Redmi Note 4 too on custom roms.
This also happens to every LG since G4. Low-quality LCD Panels.
There is nothing wrong with your phone , you can rest assured.

atm RR, so far the best rom i guess. but still the only one i tried. had the RMN4 as well, but never issues with the display (except yellow spot, soon warranty/repair)
i just hope for some aosp roms in the future like AEX and custom kernels
but atm the phone is pretty new on the market and we need to wait a little bit
Yeah, it would be nice to have selection of different ROMs.
Can someone post a picture of burn-in...

actually it´s image retention, not a burn in. so it´s not good, but it seems to be okay.
i am not able to take a photo, cuz u would need a better camera for it.
i guess it depends on the apps that u use and how often.
if u want to see if u got it as well, you could try to download a simple grey picture.
for me grey/dark grey worked good to check it. then open it in fullscreen. u might see the buttons from the navbar slightly.
i´ve been using whatsapp a lot the last few hours, so i could see the white textbox.
atm i am on RR and i recently found out that u barely get max brightness on autobrightnes maxed out. after using max brightness (manual) it seemed to be better. dunno why may be on max brightnes, the pixel get "reset" better. i don´t know.
all in all. it´s okay for me and i guess if u got it, u can recalibrate it.
I installed aida 64 from playstore but I don´t get any panel info in "display"... where do you guys find that Info about panel manufacturer?
Everything is going to be alright. It's just a low-quality screen, nothing can be done except:
Go to display, live display, color tweak and tweak the colors. From 100% go to 95% and voila, everything is going to be normal. Tinama screens are pretty bad, you can go to the redmi note 4 forum and then look for image retention. There are a lot of topics about that and it seems that only tinama screens are affected.
tl;dr: nothing to be worried about. You probably wont have problems on MIUI because the screen is calibrated

Completely false, I have official MIUI 9.5.6.0, I have the phone for 2 days, it created image retention like crazy, god fing damn i didnt expect xiaomi to have such **** panels, so disappointed
@Kusie
Open Xiaomi dialer app and type *#*#6484#*#* and click "software version"
Tianma 4310 display as well. 7 days of usage. 22,75hr + of total SOT. Auto-brightness enabled. Contrast mode : high. Colours mode : standard. Mainly using tatatalk with night mode anabled , XDA labs with dark there as well and SimplePro for FB with white theme. Google keybord green theme. At late night hours auto-reading mode kicks in (100% set)
No image retention/tiny and barely visible navigation bar (or it's just placeboo).
Interesting. Some people here with the same panel face instant burn ins and some don't...
It has to be connected with color schemes of apps, which you are using or brightness levels, which you are mainly on

I saw image retention the first day I got the phone. Changed the color settings to cold (MIUI) and no problem since then.

And why should we be forced to use ugly Cold mode? We lose color accuracy just by doing that, along with the screen having an unnatural blue hue which is also bad for the eyes, I want color accuracy not a screen looking like it's frosted
Hi,
i am on "Linageos 15.1" and today i saw that the color of the screen went to dirty. Before i had very good color representation and now it is like gray, no saturation, no big hue.
While rebooting the phone i saw the last Apps i was running. I can see the Statusbar while i am on bootloader-animation.
My phone runs for about 1,5 months and this issue appeared immediately from one second to another.
So there is no solution to get the display working as it should?
So i have to buy a new phone?
I got a replacement device b/c of the image retention. The display manufacturer is not Tianma anymore but Shenchao. The model number stays the same.

Screen Retention and WIFI problems!

This is my second Redmi Note 5 after my first one that got replaced and I'm having issues with the Screen sometimes burning in and my WIFI disconnects when it's being used and reconnects again.
Does anyone know how to solve the WIFI problem?
Is it my phone or router?
Image retention in the Xiaomi redmi note 5 is a common problem all of them has it, but many users don't say it, don't know why maybe it's their proud or people don't use a app with static images for longer than 15 minutes.
Use a static app, let the screen on for 15 min, and u got image retention aka ghosting.
People complain massively when it happend on the LG g5.
It is quite unacceptable these days, Xiaomi make nice phones but use horrible screens.
Mi mix 2 and the Mi mix 2s no burn in but much motion blur when scrolling
Redmi note 5 servere image retention.

Display Issue

I just discovered this afternoon, when I have my display set to minimum brightness, images seem to bleed when slow scrolling. This is particularly noticable at the boundary of white and black. The "bleeding" looks like dripping ink. Has anyone else had this occur? Is this normal for this display or is my device defective?
https://9to5google.com/2017/10/23/pixel-2-xls-poled-black-smear/
Has this gotten resolved with the newer device builds, or is this universal for this phone?
Pretty sure it's a universal issue for all Pixel 2 XL phones. Although there was one member here who denied having it.

Whats wrong with the S10+

First off I don't post often, so forgive me if I break rules. This topic is for discuss of current problems with the S10, S10+, S10E and there varients (Carrier/Unlocked). I will make some good points about the phone as well. Take it with a grain please.
I have the S10+ from Verizon and my phone is up to date as of March 8 2019, the day I bought the phone.
I have noticed a large amount of problems within 2 days of owning my device. Note, I switched from my Note 9 for this.
Here are a list of problems I have noticed, and how I remedied them.
1. Call volume - There is no more sound boost, and calls generally result in low output of the top speaker phone, resulting in a very hard time for me and no sure way to cure this problem as of right now. Note, I have hearing damage from the army, Note 9 was fine without call boost on.
2. Full screen for games is a now hidden feature almost, after some reading and digging, the solution I found is to manually go to phone settings -> display -> full screen apps -> select the app -> change auto to full screen default. Annoying given that my Note 9 and other Galaxy devices all had a toggle option inside each game for full and non full screen.
3. Substratum, A fonts do not install overlays anymore, Andromeda will bootloop your phone. Why... ?. Now I know this is more of Google than samsung, but man does it suck not being able to choose my favorite font and use flux for substratum to change those ugly indicators at the top. No solution, hopefully someone will find a workaround. I don't mind buying something that looks good, but theme store is literally filled with trash, Sorry.
4. Heating, pretty much all of my other phones never got anywhere near as hot and as often as this device did... I'm running the same settings and everything for the phone its self and for games themselves as well. My phone is constantly hot and even when not in use I can feel the warm device on my thigh whilst in my pocket. Solution, nothing.
5. Even though there is a indicators for the new fingerprint scanner under the display, it sometimes doesn't show and even if it does it's still hard to find. I find myself guessing most of the time with hope to get it right. Better indicator would be nice.
6. Fingerprint scanner, I have put several fingerprint on file of my right thumb and still have issues picking up the fingerprint to unlock without smashing down on the display for a clean crisp pickup. IDK what to say here. Kinda sucks but I still love it.
7. Display brightness outside, I cannot see the screen at all! When I'm outside and Max brightness is on. Help.
Nothing more as far as right now that's it.
Here is some ups thought.
1. Man that HDR 10+ is nice, I notice it right away with games and watching movies, YouTube, etc. Even with low lighting on my display, I can still see colors vividly and distinctly. GJ Sammy!
2. Better audio then the last as usual, distinctly sound with smooth crisp quality from both speakers. Makes great for gaming and movies ?
3. Fast fast fast fast, I noticed the difference and it is very much faster then the Note 9
4. Them cameras though.. ? dare I say more...
Not much more to say, again grain of salt. This is my first big post, let me know what you think and how you feel. Could any of these issues be fixed that I haven't already and how? Note, this was written on my S10+ so I'm gonna go put my hands in ice. ?
Get a replacement it should not overheat just be warm, especially if you are holding the device without a case and have max brightness the device is so thin you feel the heat from the display it is not overheating. if it is then get a replacement
My Full screen apps was on by default not off
Dude its a brand new device substratum and the separate theme developers will have to update there themes and app / service to work with it , it just came out and people that pre ordered not all have even gotten them yet. Be patient and substratum will come this is not the devices fault besides Samsung doesn't even want substratum is third party software not installed by default not a part of Samsung and cant blame the S10 for that its just a brand new phone. give it time and sub devs will fix it.
Dude you can easily see the screen in max brightness is on, in the most sunny situations, you must have poor vision I do too and can still see it or you've got a faulty device and need a replacement.
I have vision problems and I can always see the fingerprint sensor indicators it only shows on the lockscreen if it is on why would it show when the display is off, this is user error not device error.
I'm not a **** I just have autism.

Display Problem
When I use Natural Display mode Everything is fine, But When i shift to Vivid mode.. Images get washed out and pale(Characters).
I tried multiple devices in the stores to check if that's only for me and realised its the same for all devices.
The S9 Image result is better than S10 plus(I was Shocked)
And then When i use Video Enhancer the Videos also get washed out
Frustated me tried to figure out the problem.
Opened an image in instagram, and the same image in Chrome(web insta), and one in GB insta(Mod app) The mod app looks closer the the real image. And When i open an image in Google Drive it was fine but when i download and open in photos app it has the same problem.
PS: its an image rendered personally by me. not a weird image that has some format issues
Tried to record a video with the difference, but it was not showing up on the video.
Did anyone have this issue?????
Can't see any query regarding this

1. Call volume is fine for me. Just as loud or louder than the 9+ I came from.
2. I'm not much of a gamer, but clash of clans worked just fine when I loaded it up. Also worked fine using a game cloner with clash of clans.
3. This right here is why I stopped using things like substratum, magisk etc. Google ends up breaking them every update. With OneUI dark mode, I no longer feel the need to theme.
4. I have zero heart issues. In fact, even when I'd have heat issues on the 9+, I don't have them on the 10+. That's despite them shoving everything into a smaller phone with a bigger battery!
5. My fp icon works just fine. The only place it doesn't is using the Goodlock lockscreen.
6. The ASAB update helped a ton with the fpr. It's very finicky when it's wireless charging though. I'm using the pre-installed screen protector. I'd try turning on the display sensitivity.
7. Mine is perfectly bright enough outside. I'm using Lux for controlling screen brightness but it shouldn't matter.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
Skins look very pale compared to my Note 9 and iPhone XS. I'm frustrated with this phone.

I've been using the S10+ (Exynos) for a week and I'm very disappointed. I did an extensive comparison against my Note 9 and honestly I don't want to switch.
1. CAMERA: The cameras on the S10+ are worse than the Note 9, specially in low light conditions. Poor detail and blurry areas. Note 9 has Sony IMX camera sensors while the S10+ has ISOCELL.
2. DISPLAY: Not as bright as my Note 9. Whites are very muted and reds look yellowish/pale specially in human skins.
3. BATTERY: Definitely not better than my Note 9.
4. THERMALS: It gets hot so easily even when using low demanding tasks.
5. GAMING: It's impossible to run games at truly full resolution now that Game Tuner is gone. Also, in PUBG I notice constantly frame drops while in my Note 9 it's a smooth experience.
I'm sad. This device is so beautiful but it's a shame that Samsung didn't care about the actual performance.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's discovered that they are again placing different screens and camera sensors as in previous generations...

So I have an Exynos S9+ that I can compare to my Snapdragon S10+ for this.
1. near identical for me, but I'm not a shutterbug. I do really like the ultrawide angle, though.
2. So I set my screen mode to vivid, and then all the way to cool. I can still see a warmer tone on the S10+, but it doesn't bother me. I almost prefer it. Brightness looks the same to me, but I have no way of measuring this. the other stuff, I just do not see.
3. Battery is waaaaaay better, but my S9+ has like a 3,500Mah I think.
4. Thermal feels fine. Didn't measure. Just seems okay to me.
5. I had this issue with every Exynos phone. My SD S10+ runs PUBG at max settings with zero stutter. My S9+ dropped frames a lot.
Honestly, if you're happy with your Note 9, save your money, but part of your issue may just be Exynos, not the S10.
I'm comparing to my previous S7 Edge, so the difference in generations is noticeable compared to people switching from the S9 or Note 9.
SPEED: The SPEED of the phone is truly amazing. No lag, no stutters, apps start very very quick. I don't do a lot of gaming except some card games and the phone never really gets hot.
I also noticed that there is no slowdown while charging the phone, which was a real PITA with the S7.
DISPLAY: The display is AMAZING, but compared to my wife's S9+ there is not that much of a difference. They're both great screens.
BATTERY: I had an ageing phone with a smaller battery so the endurance of this phone is stellar for me. I can easily survive the day. And because I charge the phone wireless in the car when going from/to home I never run out. I never charge above 80% btw to avoid battery wear as suggested by the developers of AccuBattery.
UNLOCKING: I'm not happy with the FPS. I was hoping that the new ultrasonic technology would work flawlessly, but I'm having 50% chances to unlock. So I use the (not very secure) facial unlock for now.
CAMERA: I don't really use the camera that much except for some occassional snap with friends, but I can still see the huge improvement over the S7. Not that much over the S9 though, although like I said, I don't really use it that much.
I've got the Exynos s10+ andhave come from a note 4 so everything is a pretty big upgrade.
My two gripes: the fingerprint reader is frustrating, but more importantly - no notification LED! I thought that edge lighting was going to be the substitute for that but apparently that's not how it works. Any solutions there?

I honestly don't know. Everything I do is blazing fast, no stutters. (Except the FPS which is slowww).

So it's just me that sees lags then. Or is it because I'm coming from the OnePlus 6T. Fluidity King.

Turn on the profile GPU rendering and shows us your lags then.

My S10+ SD is One of the sleekest fastest feeling devices I've handled! ?
1. Call volume is fine for me.
2. Notch affects some games, but can adjust most by NOT selecting full screen. SOME don't work full screen even when toggled on
3. I have zero heat issues because the battery is SO BAD it doesn't last long enough to create any heat.
4. The FP is simply UNUSABLE! It's so unreliable it's easier to have it off.
5. Screen brightness is fine for me in direct sunlight , with sunglasses on even.
6. Noticing lagginess also the more I use it, specifically with the browser (chrome). Never experienced this type of lag with the previous 5 Samsung devices??
Kudos to anyone willing to wait through hopeful software updates, apply tricks to TRY to get he phone to work the way it should out of the box. I'm not that guy. This is going back. It's far more hassle to try to use it the way I'm used to. The Note 9 works much better than this crap.

Geekbench GPU benchmarks / Note 9 (Snapdragon) vs S10+ (Exynos)

unlocked bootloader and easy root must be available out of the box !!

Question Possible screen dimming / heat issue ?

Hello everyone,
I have seen tech youtubers test the F3 and some mention that it will dimm the display quite a lot when gaming. (also another one did 4k video shooting for extended time and seen the same thing)
Do you think this is because the SD870 really "could" have an heat issue in the F3 and the software is protecting the AMOLED from damage due to overheating?
However I am still looking forward to receive mine, I just want to utilize the bright display at least during normal usage
Not sure what happens, I'm seeing the same stuff on diferent video reviews of Poco F3, the thing is, Poco X3 or Redmi K40 Pro usually go even beyond 10+ºC higher and do not suffer of such dimming issue. I'm guessing it's something software related.
Yes agreed, the SD888 devices get hotter and do not show this behavior.
Let's pray it's a software issue.
Could also be that the E4 Samsung panels really do need to derate because of their really high brightness. Even a 50% reduction would be as bright as my F1's screen at max. brightness
I am reading in local Malaysian forums they talk about comments in Xiaomi forum for k40 having such issue. I don't understand mandarin I am based on what they said its an issue with K40. Let's hope software upgrade could fix this issue.
Saw the same problems in some reviews yet a member of this forum who already has it had some issues with haptic feedback others have battery problems. I think I will buy another phone

Well quality problems exist everywhere. Check out the S21 Ultra forum, there big discussions about poor camera quality are ongoing.

Yeah don't get me wrong, only having a slightly noisy haptic feedback motor is not a bad result. When I bought my Oneplus 3 back in the day, the USB-C port was slightly offset, so the cable wouldn't fit snugly and dash charging wouldn't work. I've reported my problem with the haptic feedback motor on another forum and people seem to agree it is slightly noisy, but other than that the phone works like a charm for me (so far).
@Kom_zo That is reassuring to hear, glad you enjoy it
Maybe this was Xiaomi's design intent all along to have a more "audible" motor.
I will check it out once I have it here.
Did you experience any high heat and unintended dimming so far?
I have not had the chance to use my phone intensively yet, just some light browsing and Youtube/Netflix. I have however just made a video of the haptic feedback sound and I can tell you that this is not by design (the popping noise is coming from the phone, not the recording)
@Kom_zo Thanks for sharing!
Agreed, it definitely sounds not normal - somehow like a hollow "clicking".
Is it bearable or will you return it?
I have haptic feedback turned off by default, but my phone will vibrate for alarms/notifications and calls. As of right now it might just sound broken, but it is a moving part that could cause more damage to the internals of the device. I will try to swap it for a white model in a few days, but I think I will return it either way.

I agree with the statement from the Malaysian guys, it makes sense.
However there is a video from the same youtuber which shows Black Shark 4 vs F3 and the BS4 doesn't dimm the display.
Though I don't know which brand/type of amoled the BS4 uses.
Edit: Found it, watch from minute 2 onwards:
Is there any green tint with low brightness?

Shouldn't happen, since the F3 uses PWM for the amoled screen which eliminates color shift at low brightnesses.
This problem happen too when you off auto brightness ?
I think the tech youtube has set it to manual max. brightness.
I can only assume it will limit brightness at high temps regardless if you are on auto or manual.
I might get bashed for this but you can underclock and undervolt the GPU with KonaBess: https://github.com/xzr467706992/KonaBess
It's worth a shot if you don't game a lot, it'll likely not overheat causing the screen to dim as much.
I still feel the screen dimming will be reduced with the upcoming MIUI 12.5 update for the F3.
POCO said on a live stream that they are working on the dimming problem.
