LG G3 change camera resolution without touchscreen? touch is broke in that spot. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My LG G3 has part of the touchscreen not working. I want to use it to record 4k video, but the camera settings icon is on part of the screen that doesn't respond to touch. Rotating the phone does not rotate the camera icons. All I'm mainly trying to do is switch the video recording to 4k. It's currently on 1080p.
I've tried 5 or so camera apps, and a few of them will put camera settings in the middle of the screen, but as far as I can tell, most 3rd-party camera apps can't record 4k video. Their settings menu comes up in the middle of the screen, and I can choose 1080p and lower but not higher. If those apps are supposed to be able to record 4k, then I guess there's something else wrong with my phone, because they don't give a 4k option. I've never tried 4k on it before at all.
I've read CameraMX can record 4k video, but it uses the same camera buttons as the stock app, so I still can't press the settings icon button.
Is there some other way to switch the recording to 4k mode? Edit a file somewhere or something? Or another camera app that can do 4k and also puts the settings menu somewhere besides the upper-left of the screen?

...Of course! I forgot all about that kind of thing. And now at midnight I dug around in my boxes of random computer parts knowing there's an OTG cable in there somewhere I bought years ago "because you never know when you'll need an OTG cable."
BOOM. Changed to 4k.
4k video recording was going to be the main use for the phone now, and I was getting ready to sell it because it was stuck on 1080p.
I was focused on this specific camera problem and didn't think to try a more generic search of how to access a dead screen. That might have made this thread unnecessary. Oh well.
Now to look up how to increase the recording bitrate. Thank you.

[Q] Use Laptop Dock to display videos?

So I've converted some files to mp4's, and had previous mp4 files before, but whenever it's in the webtop display, I can't mirror the image to the Laptop dock. Had the same issue with my HD TV. The screen is completely black and when I close the monitor down, the phone shows the remote (like you have when connected to a TV) and it's blocking the video (I can barely see a row of pixels moving at the bottom) which leads me to believe that the remote thing is covering up the video somehow. Is there a way to fix this?? I can't understand why they wouldn't allow you to watch your videos on a bigger screen. Is there a setting I just need to change or is this working as intended and I need to get some kind of hack for it? I just wanna be able to watch my anime I convert to mp4 on the laptop dock screen. I tried to mess with a video player through accessing my phone via webtop, but it's such a small resolution and looks terrible. Any idea's??

Video recording while screen off possible?

Is it possible to have the defy recording videos while the screen is off? I would like to document longer hikes and such and the screen is the biggest energy-consumer while doing so.
There are apps which can turn the screen black but i havent found any which let you disable the screen completely.
Whats the matter? Can it be hacked ?
Also is itpossible to record the sound through a headset-microphone while recording videos?
I would prefer using a dedicated mic as wind-noise is pretty strong while riding a bike and i think a headset-mic could work way better.

Sharing Video to Smart TV?

I am trying to play my video from my SGS3 to my smart tv. When playing a video while on the same wifi as my tv, there is a little icon at the top of the screen on the phone that allows you to pick your display. When I pick the "Smart TV" display, the video is sent seamlessly to the tv. However, I am having a problem with orientation. Videos downloaded to my phone are perfect, but videos I record from my phone are not. A video taken in portrait mode shows up on the tv sideways, and a video taken in landscape mode shows up upside down. It displays normally on the phone. Anyone have any ideas?
Another question: Does anyone know what needs to be installed for this to work? I'm guessing it uses dlna via allshare, but when i put a custom rom on the phone, I no longer have the option to send the video to the tv.
FYI: For those of you that do not have a smart tv, but do have pc or something else running XBMC, you can also use this feature, but I'm guessing you have to enable dlna in XBMC. Works great! (Same issues with orientation though)

Thanks for the response. I installed bubble upnp and it does the same thing. However, I did take a few more videos and noticed the way you hold the phone matters. If I take the video in landscape mode with the home button on the right, it displays perfectly. If I have the phone in landscape with the home button on the left, the image is inverted when played through upnp, but normal on the device. Also, if the video is done in portrait mode, the orientation is rotated 90°. Is this what happens with you?
Also, if anyone else has any suggestions for upnp apps, please post them here.
Try Twonky Mobile or Twonky Beam, theses are the most reliable for me, with the added bonus with Twonky Beam to be able to send any video from the web.

Video Camera and Allshare

I just tested the 1080p video camera and was surprised to find that I can actually pause the recording, move to where I need to be, and continue to record so that when I am finish, I get one continous file. This is like analog or DV tape. If you stop the recording then you need a video editor to piece the footage together, not to mention that if you record 5 secs at a time and play it back on the pc, you get just that 5 secs and have to open the next file.
Now you can record for 5 secs, pause, recompose, start recording again, pause, etc... and you will have one continuous file. I wonder if the file size limit is 4gb if you format your external SD card to fat32.
Also, I have two Samsung SMART LED TV, one is 2010 C series and the other is a 2011 D series. If you have those, then you know about the allshare feature that allows you to send pics, music, video straight to your TV without the need for wire or that $99 Allshare Cast. Now while musics and pictures can be sent to the TV wirelessly without lag, 720p video can not. I couldn't do it with my EPIC 4G touch without experiencing buffer just like a youtube video is buffering. That is with both TVs so I figure it must be my slow network at home but I upgraded to Gigabit ethernet and that still doesn't help. I figure the problem is that the 720p video from the Epic 4G touch which is recorded at 17mbps is a bit too much to send over wifi to the TVs.
So I recorded some 1080p this morning. BTW, as long as you keep the camera still, the video is very sharp. Do a lot of panning and the camera has trouble focusing sharply. Stop and touch the screen to do selective focusing, like on a flowers that is not in the center of the screen. While the video bit rate remains at 17 mbps, the resulting video is very sharp on my 55 inch LED TVs. Almost as good as my Canon HFS10 but the details are much better on the Canon.
So I sent the 1080p video via allshare to my 2010 C series TV(which is hard wired to the router) and I still get buffering problem. So I figure the bit rate is too high to send over wifi. Then I went upstair and tested it with the 2011 D series TV and surprisingly, no buffering or lag. And the TV upstair is wirelessly connected to the router, not hard wired.
So I took a 24mbps 1080p video that I recorded on my Canon DSLR, which I transferred to my phone, and tried to play that using the built in allshare feature of the TV and my Galaxy Note 2. Surprise surprise, no stuttering or buffering either. No need to connect the MHL cable or remove the microSD card to play the videos on TV anymore.

Any experience with chromecast?

I saw there was a thread back in November about chromecast issues, but no responses, so I thought I'd start a new thread.
I don't have any issues casting issues with streaming video apps like Fox Sports Go or a Watch ESPN. No issues when casting "local" videos from my SD card within VLC Player (using the cast button in the player app) . No problem with VLC Player with the HDMI connection - but it acts like it is casting (video only shows on the TV). Mirroring the screen looks fine with HDMI. Swiping screens is smooth. I can see the top and bottom of the screen. Audio apps like Pulsar Music Player and Pandora also cast fine.
Here's where it gets weird.
1) When I cast to the TV from Google Home, I get a message that my device is not optimized for casting. Then the mirror mode cuts off the top & bottom of the screen, and the casting is choppy. Swiping from one screen to another is laggy. When I cast with SmartView through settings, no message, but still cut off at the top and bottom, and choppy / laggy.
2) When casting local videos in mirror mode, both with chromecast and hdmi, MxPlayer is _terrible_ distorted and choppy. MxPlayer is fine when not casting.
3) When casting with Google Home or SmartView, VLC Player is choppy, but nowhere near as bad as MX Player
Because both the players work when not casting, it doesn't seem to be a problem with video codecs (although I have no idea which codecs I should use for MX Player - I haven't had any playback issues like I did on the S2).
Anyone know why the issues with chromecast? There were no issues casting with my Tab S2....
Thanks,
Joe
Where is the cast button in VLC? I didn't think it could do that, I just looked again and still don't see it. App is up to date.

Should be on top, right hand side.
I'm using the beta version, 3.0.94 from Jan. 15th. The beta, at least, has supported direct casting from the app for many months.
First enable casting in settings, in the extra settings section - casting is between audio and advanced. Then you'll see a cast icon at the top right of the screen.
Also after a video starts, press the screen to bring up the video controls while the video plays. Again, there will be a cast icon on the top right of the video screen.
This feature may be limited to the beta.
Joe
I have the beta as well latest version I see casting in settings and enabled it but no button on top right.

So I'm new to xda, but I tried attaching three screen shots of vlc, with the cast icon showing in the corner of the first two and the third where it asks which device to cast to. I'm not sure how or if I can embed them in line, but they are hopefully attached. I don't know if it helps you or not. (yes, Browns Hard Knocks... I grew up in Cleveland, a cross I have to bear)
Back on topic,
Is anyone else having issues with mirroring?
Good luck,
Joe
So I've used this more. Smart Cast and Google Home continue to be crappy for mirroring.
SmartCast is choppy, really bad contrast and distorted.
Google Home tells me "your device is not optimized for casting", the contrast and distortion are not so bad, but video plays choppy. Then after 5 minutes it drops connection. Every time.
While it is true that mirror casting is about the worst way to put content onto the TV, there are some apps that just don't support casting. This is a disappointment. You'd think a tab as expensive as this would be best in class.
