sharp edge on side bezels? - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Hey there,
just received my phone and i was a little dissapointed how the side of the display feels. Do you guys also have a sharp plastic "bumper" surrounding the display? Especially on the corners it stands out. does not feel very premium.. Already thinking of helping with a cutter knife
Is it only me?

The pre-installed screen protector??? Is that what you're talking about???

No I removed that allready. Between the glas and the metall frame there is a plastic filling which will work as shock absorber. This is normal. But is feels like it is too high. So I feel it when moving my finger over it as a sharp edge especially on the corners.

Ah ok. Sorry, mate. Mine is perfect with no sharp edges. Just checked. Sounds like dodgy build quality on your particular phone.

very strange. wonder how it even is possible to make quality differences there... would kinda feel stupid sending it back for a reason like that

I cannot imagine there can be such a flaw. Are you sure that its actually sharp?
There is a flat part to the metal before the plastic starts but its perfectly aligned.

On my phone it's exactly the same. The plastic is "sharp".
To be honest i can live with that but it is interesting that most devices don't have this problem.

Really odd. Maybe other just aren't as sensitive as we are..

I know exactly what you are talking about. Between the glass screen and the metal body, there is a plastic gasket that sits ever so slightly above the glass and creates a sharp feeling.
I'm not sensitive, but I do notice it. Especially near the corners. BH

At least good to know I`m not alone. Biggest Problem ist not the feel of it but that this narrow gap which is formed between the glass and the gasket hold dirt easily and looks preety disgusting

Build quality can differ quite "sharply" between devices. I remember when I got the iPhone 4 on release and it had holes in the rubber seal between the screen and bezel. A replacement from the same shop that day had no such issue but had uneven screen placement and light bleed. It happens.

As I see it the problem is not with the gasket but the glas. it is more rounded on the corners.

Not only does it appear to cover the light sensor on the front, but the back of the case also appears to be covering the speaker. I picked up the Tmo case in store and really like it.

can you describe the one that you got at the tmobile store? is it a hard case or just the silicone one? how much was it?
im going to stop by the tmobile store today to look for a hard case and screen protectors. although people in the screen protector thread said the screen protectors from tmobile sucked. any suggustions that dont require me putting water on my phone like the clearfreak screen protectors?
btw, i am looking for something like posted above, but dont want to wait till mid august

There is a light sensor and a proximity sensor in front. Might be another one. I see 3 small dots on the front.
I've heard you're better off covering the front facing camera, at least it keeps you from thinking you can actually use the thing. (I don't have one, but I've heard in several places it's pretty much worthless).
The FFC is near worthless without Fring/Skype. You can chat with QIK but that's about it, the other stuff is worthless. So much for it taking over.

[Q] Metal part surrounding camera lens scratches?

I just unboxed a new steel grey s2 that now, unlike the platinum version, has a silver coloured lens surround on the back. I noticed that there appears to be several "scuffs" on this part, at least i think they are scuffs. I say "think" because they are only visible at certain angles. Im thinking it may be the etched pattern is different in spots giving the appearance of scratches...any thoughts?
Do they look like rings? If so, they're just part of the camera design.
Not really...
I think I know what you are referring to. But these look like little scuff marks and are most apparent on one of the edges. Truly, it's so likely nothing but I'm kinda anal...

Ah. My Hercules also has some scuffs on the edge of the camera, but it's because I use it a lot. Maybe even though T-Mobile said the device was new, it really was a refurb.
That's all fine dandy but if it is refurb it should not cost as much.. just my 2 cents

Xperia z compact left side slightly misaligned?

Hi, I just got the phone yesterday and right away I noticed that the left side of the aluminum framing is a little off?
It's hard to notice but if everybody can please take a moment and look at the left side, where the magnetic charging port, does that section tend to extrude a little more than the rest of the frame? Compare that part to the port flaps on top from an angle and you should see that the charging port section is extruding a little more ?
Thanks for your time and replies.

hmm, 50 views and nobody replied, does that mean nobody is having the same problem? just a defective unit ?
There is in other z1c devices too. Not all. Don't worry, I don't think it is a defect. Everything works as it should including magnetic charger and water resistance!
So in some devices, they aluminum frames are perfectly aligned while others are not and it's not considered a defect? I don't quite follow the logic here. Anybody else has a slight misalignment? It's not major but on an angle you can tell that the Magnetic charging port is slightly different compared to the flaps on top.

Have I offended you in anyway? In my post, I wasn't refering to your logic that I didn't follow, I'm referring to Sony. If there are obvious units out there with perfect alignment and some that aren't perfect, Sony should refer to those as defective units and issue a recall to fix it, no? It's a premium device after all. Didnt mean to offend you if i did, I'm sorry.

So post one that highlights what you're talking about, i.e face on.
I don't have the phone with me at work today, but those of you who have the phone with you, maybe you can pick it up and view it a little. The frame where the magnetic charging port sits, seems to protrude a little more than the frame near the flap areas.

If I stare at mine hard enough, I think I can see the part around the charger protruding slightly more than above and below it. But the difference is very small and not noticeable unless you're looking for it.

Look at angle from slightly bottom up, it's very minimum but once you find it, you can tell that the flap areas are more indented than the magnetic charging ports. I saw it last night once I got the phone. Try to turn the phone a little while you're looking at it, if the phone is sitting down on the table its very hard to tell. You have to be holding it and looking at the frame while moving the phone around. I just need to make sure that it'ts not a defective unit and that's how these phones were made. If not I'll return the phone for a replacement. All else with the phone is fine though. I'll also stop by a local store later to check out the z1 and z1s to see if they have the same problem.

okay here are the updated photos that i took. notice that on the left side, its not completely straight because of the extra protruding from the magnetic charger port.
I was kidding earlier with the OCD .
To be honest, I do not see anything wrong in the pictures. Maybe I really can not see it. You need to get right the reflections in order to evidentiate such think in a photo.
Bottom line: if YOU do not like it, go ahead and exchange it or return it. Anyway, the small, fine details, that you are looking after, will not be at the level of an iPhone. That's a fact.

I don't see anything either in those photos.
To be sure that you're not just seeing an optical illusion from the reflections of the changing surface along that edge, why not just take a ruler to it and measure? Or place on a piece of paper and trace an outline? Does it wobble if you rest it on that edge?
You'll never be certain if you just rely on your eyes.
This is mine.

The way you've applied your screen protector would be more annoying. Lay the left side on a flat surface and that will highlight it more, but to me it looks like the protective plastic is giving the illusion that it is.

Perfect Solution to Buff Scratches on the G4's Plastic

I just stumbled upon this when I was fixing up my fingernails. I wondered to myself if the polish side of the multi-step nail filers would buff out scratches. So, I tried and it got rid of every single scratch on the sides and top of my G4. Thought I'd share it with the community. Hopefully everyone knows what I'm talking about. I can take a picture of what it looks like. Be careful not to use any of the other abrasive sides. I'm not sure what the material is made up of, so be warned that if they're all made differently. I just figured some users would appreciate it for resale value or just reviving the frame of the phone.
EDIT: Now that I look at it a little closer, you can still see some of them, but it cleaned them up very nicely. The longer I do it, the more scratches disappear. Worked nicely on the plastic cover over the laser as well.

If you go into a retailer, go to the beauty section and look for something that has something that says step 1, step 2, step 3, etc. The last step of the filer is supposed to polish/shine nails. Sometimes they will look like a block of foam with 4 sides.

That's how people fix plastic crystals on watches and also how people remove scratches on the iPod Video when those were very easy to scratch.

I hope that from here on out, all LG flagships will include as much metal as possible. The ONLY complaint I really have is the easily scratched frames and lens glass cover. I was never the type of person to shun plastic phones, because they can look as good as metal and it doesn't hinder the phone's actual performance, but now that I've had the G2 and G4, I'd like to see more durable construction, given that the phones are fairly expensive.

Hopefully, that was the reason I used to always owned Motorola because of the like a tank build quality until the non-removeable battery models were just glued on back covers that came off when the battery got swollen, maybe it's a safety design.
I've still no idea what you're talking about OP, can you elaborate? I'm getting a case for mine soon and it'd be nice to get some of these surface level scratches out beforehand.
Also confused and interested.

I Have said this for years. Sucks how information gets lost in the abyss. I started doing this back in my Droid 2 days. Once I got a galaxy nexus, I even began using some acrylic filler and buffing that as well.
I do get what you mean, with those 4 in one (or more commonly 3 in 1) nail files, its super easy to make a mistake. Just go to sallys beauty supply where you can buy the shine files separately. I would advise taping the display with masking tape if you do not use a screen protector.

[Short Review]Recommended Fully Adhere - Tempered Glass

Hi all,
We all know how hard it is to find a good Tempered glass for a smartphone with curving edge display,
That also the case with our Pixel 2 XL
Luckily, finally i managed to found tempered glass that has full adhesive, case friendly, and doesn't break our bank account,
Here's the product : Tempered Glass for Google Pixel 2XL Screen Protector FULL GLUE Case Friendly Premium Screen Glass Protector For Google Pixel2XL
http://s.aliexpress.com/qqYVbYFZ?fromSns=Copy to Clipboard
(from AliExpress Android)
Price : $11.77 include free shipping,
It took week till it arrive to my door. Item shipped from Hongkong, am living in Indonesia
Packaging : its good and safe. Tempered glass placed inside a sterofoam box .
Installation : Now, this is the tricky part, although it has full adhesive, the installation wont go as simple as installing other (ex iPhone) full adhesive TG. It (the adhesive) tends to spread unevenly causing bubble.
The trick is to go from the corner, while keep the other corner floating, press the glass with two or more finger ensuring no bubble appear in the process.
It will take sometimes till you get it right with zero bubble,
But the result is rewarding. It perfectly fit, and can be used with cases as well. I use it with original google fabric case.

It was quite gambling for me as well, lol,
But since i have no other option available in my country, u guess i have nothing to lose for 12 bucks.
Now am waiting a case to arrive
Looks good. I just don't understand why they make the top and bottom black instead of clear if it is full adhesive.
I'm guessing this is the same product as HeroShield. Looks the same. My HeroShield should arrive in a few weeks, so we'll see.
Does it have a cut out for the proximity sensor? I don't mean just a transparent window, proper gap/no glass bit over the sensor. I can't see from the photos
how is the screen feel and oleophobic coating? Does the finger glide eaily on the screen?

Its because although the adhesive on the display area is full, there's lil gap on the edge area where it doesn't have the adhesive, i guess due to the curve, it still not possible to create fully transparent glass protector with full adhesive. I never seen one for popular phone like iphone either. All iphone x glass protector has coloring as well.
The only real transparent protector with full adhesive is whitestone probably, but thats using low viscosity loca to begin with, so its different story, not to mention the skyhigh price.

It doesn't. It have a transparent window with adhesive under . It stick perfectly though, thus no interference to the proximity function. I try make a call and place finger over the sensor, it work normally

Nothing extraordinary regarding the coating i guess. Finger glide nicely just like on original screen. But it collecting fingerprint overtime. (Am one of those guy who have wet hand all the time though, so my experience with fingerprint might be severe than how it should) :silly:

btw do you have to tear it out to re position it when you are applying on the screen?

You need to lift it off if you already stick large area of it prior to reposition,
Positioning is quite easy though, the harder part is to push the glass slow and even.
I'd almost be interested, but I try to stay away from protectors that cover the proximity sensor. I know it works sometimes, I've just been bitten by it too many times on phones where it causes issues.
Here's HeroShield's install video. Seems like they include a squeegee with theirs to help with the bubbles.

Can see from the video that it has glass covering the sensor, so it will be hit or miss. Some will have no issues with the sensor. Others will.

Hi OP... Are you able to post some picts of the top and bottom edge of the phone? Or a pict that can somehow show the gap of the side of the protector to where it meets the screen. Just curious to see if there is a slight gap as there is no adhesive there. Since I go case less, I am afraid I will always crack the glass because of this gap. Thanks in advance!
Something like this ?
Those picts are good!!! thanks!!!
