When I shut off "say okay Google any time" under settings > Googe > search > voice > voice match, it seems to disable hotword detection completely.

Okay Google Everywhere

hey everyone
i am currently trying to get the okay google everywhere function to work. i am running a hispasian 4.4.4 rom which works great. i have tried the tricks posted online and i get nothing.
i am running the 3.6.14 version of google now and google play store 4.9
on my google now app it shows okay google detection in the settings and when i click that all i get is the from google search app ( say okay google to start a voice search from the app).
but when i back out of that i have the audio history feature which says required for features such as using ok google to start a voice search from any screen. i have that feature turned on.
i dont know if im doing somethin wrong or if my play store needs to be updated or what?
thanks
- dan
only update is i can set up my voice to record it with the ok google 3x.
the app says its all set after i do that but i cant turn on the feature in the ok google detection. it keeps saying from google search app.
i even updated my play services to the most current that came out on 10/2

I'm running the same version of google now. From the "OK Google" Detection screen, there should be 3 option boxes. Sounds like you only have the 1st one, From Google Search App. You're missing From Any Screen and From Lock Screen. Maybe uninstall and reinstall Voice.
From Any Screen messes up my voice (chipmunk like) in programs like Skype. So it might not be a big loss for you.

[Q] Ok Google hotword detection not available from every app on SM-T800

So in the settings under Voice, "Ok Google" hotword detection from every app just does not show up as an available option. I have tried with S Voice installed and not installed. I have triedthe searching for "Ok Google everywhere" trick. It just won't show up as an option. All my voice and speech settings are in US English. I'm running IronRom v.1.9 but I've had this problem on ThunderRom as well.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?

OK Google anywhere detection after 5.0.1 update

I could have sworn that before the update I could use the ok google detection anywhere (after I enabled it search settings). I tried it again, and it's grayed out in the Search, Voice settings in Google Search. Only the top main option to enable OK google voice allows me to toggle it on or off.
Are you sure you weren't using Google Now launcher?

Disable S Voice in app management, reboot, then go back to Google Now settings. It shouldn't be grayed out anymore.
Woot! Your response led me on the right path. I am and was using the Google now launcher, but the reason I kept referring to Google Search (which is actually just called Google in the app store) is because I thought it was a separate app responsible for the search functionality and that it hooked into the Now launcher. So I uninstalled the standalone Google app, rebooted phone, and now the option is no longer grayed out in the voice detection section of the Now launcher settings.
I think it's strange that Google allows the Google search app to coexist and override the built in Now launcher search functionality (or at the very least seems to pull the standalone Google search app's settings when I try and configure them through the Now launcher)
I'm sooo confused right now. What I uninstalled was just an update. The "Google" search app is still installed and asking me to update it, which means it came built in to the firmware. Aarrghh!
I updated it, and the option for OK Google functionality anywhere in the phone (different apps, screen off, etc) now became grayed out again. So its' at least linked to that it seems. I also don't get the ability to train the OK Google voice recognition (also grayed out) with the updated Google (search) app. The stock, original firmware version of the app does allow it. Aggravating!
Yup I noticed the same thing, the ability seems broken after the update.

I followed the advice to disable the s voice app through the application manager, rebooted... And forgot to check it till today. Yes! Its working. I'm 99% sure it was disabling s voice that did it, and 1% possibility it was an a background google update... So I'm leaning toward the s voice fix.
Thank you to the 2nd poster above with the recommendation. Fixed it.
Hmm. My svoice is enabled and I am able 'ok google' from anywhere. Including the lock screen. I haven't actually used svoice since the update so I will try it and then see if ok google still works from everywhere.
I can 't force stop or disable S-Voice and OK Google options are grayed out. Any ideas?
In the past I was not able to disable s voice through the application manager, but this time I was.
A couple of possibilities I can think of. In the s voice settings, disable any available options that may be enabled, such as activating it via home button, etc. (Don't recall all the various settings now because it's gone completely from my application settings section)
Also, go into the Security settings of the phone and make sure s voice is not listed as a Device Administrator. I've noticed that apps can't be disabled or uninstalled as long as they're listed in this section as device admins. As usual reboot after just in case, and check if you can disable it then.
I haven't modified anything on the phone other than manually disabling a bunch of apps through application manager and replacing touchwiz with the Google Now home screen.

I think this might be due to doze. Could you change the setting to "Don't Optimise" for the Google app in Battery settings?

I can't because google is not listed there only non system apps. When I went to apps to see if I can change there there was no option there.
I've ran into the same issue unfortunately you have to wake the screen up to call Google, kinda defeats the purpose
There's also another setting in the Google app under voice called "Voice Match" and there's an option to unlock the phone with it. Try that?
EDIT: I would try this on my phone, but I've removed the Google app from system so I'm not sure if it will work for me.

If you download any of the new Betas, the voice match is in there, but it's really just the new title for Ok Google Detection. And I still can't use it with the screen off which is ridiculous.
I've had the same problem after recently upgrading to Oreo stable release, Oxygen OS v5.0.4 on my 5t. And after some troubleshooting I was able to fix my issue. I'm sharing it here so it would help someone else as well.
Below are the exact issues I had.
1. OK Google voice detection was not working.
2. Voice input using Mic button on Google keyboard was not working.
3. Voice training was not working during Google assistant setup.
Troubleshooting I did:
I checked if there is any hardware problem with my phone's mic by using voice recorder app, it turned out I was able to record voice and playback well without any issues.
Then I searched on oneplus Forum and found out a testing code that would help to test mic using phone's built-in manufacturing test following below instruction. It was successful as well.
Dial *#808* -> scroll down to "single MIC recording test" there you can test all 3 microphones
Finally I went to apps and uninstalled "Google" app. This won't totally uninstall the Google app but will just revert to an older version. And that miraculously seem to have fixed my problems.
After the step 3 all the issues I have mentioned above were fixed and now I am able to open the Google assistant using "Ok Google" and I am able to use voice input in Google keyboard and also I'm able to train my voice in google assistant. Not sure where and what's the bug. Could be that OnePlus's Oreo update was faulty. I'm Just relieved that I didn't have to go through oneplus online support to reflash my phone's OS or to return my phone for service centre as suggested in some of the oneplus forum threads. In fact I am typing some of this messages using my Gboard voice input. I hope this helps someone else too.

First, get rid of hivoice via adb. Then make sure that you have all necessary settings under Google account. Go through it one by one.
Make sure that you have the latest Google app installed. Give it all permissions and check settings.
Do not install any additional assistant app. It's under Google. Set it as a default assistant.
Now go to the Google apk and set under battery usage details App launch manually for all 3 counts.
Finally, go to open apps and lock both settings and google apps as you see on the attached picture (the lock sign is in a void place on the right above the window- push until locked).
Now you'll have your assistant always on when the screen is on if you don't kill it manually.
The Google assistant is not a native app for Chinese phone. Therefore Huawei aggressive app killer kills it after certain inactive time. Basically, locking it prevents that action.

so, you mean the google app has to be running in the background to keep assistant operative.
Exactly. I have it in background and since then it is always operative.
