Galaxy callisto in 2017 - Samsung Galaxy 551 Callisto

It's almost 2018 and I still think about this beautiful device every now and then. My first ever Android and will always be close to my heart. I'm honestly looking for one and it's really hard to find one in India. I'm more than willing to pay for it including the shipping. This is a desperate call for the sake of sentimental attachment. Anyone from India and want to let go of their Galaxy 551? I'll be more than happy to buy it. Thanks in advance!

There's one in my drawer - but rather distant from India...

Ok guys so i have a chance to sell my used Galaxy s 2 for 400$ and buy a new galaxy nexus in box for 425$!
Should i do it?! Has anyone used both?! Which is better?!
I have yet 30min to reply to the offer!
10x
You'll love the Rom community.
I haven't used both...really, anyway.
Two of my friends have SII's. One on Sprint the other T-Mobile.
They're obviously nice phones.
But so is the Nexus.
Personally, I feel like I'll never get anything OTHER than a Nexus after owning this phone.
But the decision is yours to make.

Which phone would you get?

Hey All,
I need some help making up my mind. I'd love to hear your input.
I moved to China in August. I had a Galaxy Nexus at the time. A bottle of vodka ended the life of that phone prematurely. I need to buy a phone to replace it.
I would prefer to buy a N4, but I don't have any friends or family coming to see me until the end of January, and I'm a little nervous about shipping a new electronic device into China.
I was checking out my options today, and it seems my best choice will come from the following: GNex, S3, Note 2, Meizu MX, or Oppo Finder.
If money were no object, and you were choosing one from that pool of devices, which would you go with? I'm having a hard time weighing the pros and cons of these different devices. And, as much as I enjoyed my GNex, I'm a little hesitant paying new-phone price for a phone that has some pretty old specs. Feel free to tell me I shouldn't feel this way. I might just need to hear it.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Depends what forum you post on. Since you are on the nex forum, that will be the one that gets voted. Move over to the s3 forum and guess what they will tell you to get?
Always the same back and forth arguing. I would just try them out if you can in the store and see which you like best. Personally I like the nex because I hate UI overlays put on top of google (sense/tw)
I thought I might get a more honest response out of this crowd, because we are mostly people who have seen other devices released since we bought this phone. I imagine a lot of people here are waiting to upgrade and have been eyeing other devices the last couple of months.
I also really prefer stock Android and the whole Nexus experience. But I also really like new and shiny.

Note 2 clone info...

I found this phone on this website...
http://www.chinaecarts.com/samsung-...-core-android-41-ram-2gb-rom-16gb-p-2802.html
But I'm not sure if it'll be what I'm expecting. I want a note 2 but don't really wanna pay a whole lot for since I'm gonna buy out right but at the same time I want one with the same specs as the original and be able to use cases that the original note 2 uses. I also want to customize the phone with custom roms as well. Does anyone know if this can be done with this clone?
Thanks!
And if there's any more info someone can share with me or an even better clone out there plz let me know...

Why would you expect support from a company that admittedly sells counterfeit products? And why would you support them?
My opinion, stay away, far away from it.

So basically you want to have the same specs, dev support and the whole package, with a cheapo clone? Read that again and see if that makes any sense at all.
If there is such a thing, why would we all pay 600$ and buy the original at all?
Well first off its just a question on whether or not the phone could do it. Secondly, I would pay the $600 when I have the money...I'm just looking for more inexpensive options. With today's crappy economy you can't blame anyone for looking for alternative options in things they want.

I live in a 3rd world country but can still manage to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Don't have money? Then save and get money.
Stay away from that idea you have now.

Living in China I bought some of these devices but you have to understand these devices are for LOOK. They LOOK like the original(if you're not to close lol) but the hardware is very different. They often perform surprisingly well but their camera are always crap.
Of course since the hardware is very different you can't come on the Note II forum to get help because your phone is NOT a Note II, it only looks like one.
Finally buying a clone is not an alternative of what you want. If you want a Note II, an alternative would be to buy a second hand, then you get what you want at a cheaper price. But buying a clone is like wanting a Ferrari but buying Go-Kart.
There is nothing wrong with having a clone, but the fact that you are expecting "almost" genuine product support is more than exaggerated don't you think?
Before we extend this thread with negative answers ppl will continue to give you, you should realize that a clone runs perhaps a very different type of hardware meaning the custom roms will never ever support. You could try them of course, but do not be surprised if your screen will never come back on, camera not working, mic, touchscreen failure etc.
DITTO with everyone here! I would just delay your purchase until you have money for your, "Want" as you stated.
To be honest, owning a Note II is a personal choice, and there are 25+ other phones that have similar functions that I would purchase before I got ANY clone. Keep in mind, support? Drivers? apps? insurance? warranty?
I agree with majority. (And if you wait on release of Note III, Note II will come down in price)
NOTE: I (or we) and not trying to talk negatively about you, just member love! There are therads, plenty of them, where members got ripped off on aftermarket clones (SanDisk Chips are big rip off from 2nd and 3rd party vendors. I have been following that big here as Note II can handle 64GB as I have).

Jrodbrown,
Your profile states your hometown as I United States? You can get unlocked amazon note II for I $499.00?
You stated money and economy, your rocking galaxy skyrocket now, thats a good phone! Keep it until you save?
Lastly, I see your new here? Make friends! I disagree with comment about not asking non-note II questions here, but I have met thru personal messages 50+ people here that will answer any question I have at almost any hour! He**, I still answer questions on my old Tilt, Fuze, and Evo!

Which would be the best buy among these?

I have a note 2 and I'm more than happy with it. My friend wants to buy a new phone. We have narrowed it down to : lg g2 note 3 s5 and nexus 5 with leaning more towards s5 since my friend is not very happy about the size and weight of note 3.
we checked all the things including battery, availability of roms, overall performance and still can't decide. it has to work for at least 2 to 3 years.
which one would you people suggest..
also, how much should we care about lte before buying a phone..esp in india
thanks.. please suggest any other phone if you think is worthy

There is always a possibility that anyone can get bored with any phone. When this happens, Samsung phones are forcing you to make a choice; either live with it or lose your warranty by flaging KNOX (or buy a new phone but that's not an option all the time). If we consider Samsung was the most open company in the Android world in the beginning, providing open bootloader with every phone and encouring people to install anything now it turned into a company that does NOT share any usefull info with developers and enabling the highest security on the mobile world even for a basic rooting process.. So basicly they are mocking with people by saying "we still keep the bootloaders open, you can install anything; ıf you CAN" as they get richer...
In my opinion that's scary. Watching what Samsung turned into in time isn't nice. Besides, their way of NOT giving updates to their old phones are making more poeple misarable. So, it's always a big risk of hoping a Samsung phone to be up to date.
On the other hand, if your friend goes with G2 or Nexus 5, then can say "What the hell" if the company decides not to give updates after a while. Actually, we all know Nexus 5 will be on the stage for at least another more year so no problem.. I don't think anyone would hope any less for G2 either..
Long story short, eliminate Samsung phones. They come with many features inside but even better alternatives are already out there for everyone to install any Android device.

On the fence about buying Le Pro3

Hey all,
I've been through a few phones nexus s, galaxy nexus, nexus 4, nexus 5 and now a moto x play but its starting to show its age. Ideally the pixel is my dream phone but the price tag is a bit too agressive for me. I've been looking at the Le Pro3 and it seems like a no brainer to me in terms of value per dollar. I just wanted to see if anyone could answer a few questions.
1) Will the phone work in Canada? I'm currently on Koodo Mobile (Same network as Telus). I was looking at the bands on Goldway's page for the phone and it seemed a little hard to understand what was going on with the bands... what was written is "B20:800/B5:850/B8:900/B4:1700/B3:1800/B2:1900/B1:2100/B7:2600 MHz TD LTE B38:2600/B39:1900/B40:2300/B41:2555-2655MHz" which I'm mildly confused by.
2) I'd really rather not use the stock EUI, I'm just too familiar with the vanilla android feel. What would you guys consider to be the most stable rom for this phone, preferably cyanogenmod kinda rom?
3) Anything about the phone you don't like or would like to change? Is there anything I should know before jumping on it?
Thanks!
I am loving this phone. Only thing I am missing for now is nougat but i believe it will be there later.

Get a nice case that covers the front edge of the screen, the included does but the camera bump is exposed a little
mine after month and a half is not working, burn charger and no help from customer service. I really recommend think twice about get this phone. money is not on the trees so if something goes wrong you are alone..
I'd say go for it

It should work:

There is official Lineage OS Support for the device:

IMHO best value for money at the moment, only the camera isn't very good. It's good enough for me, i only use it for snapshots form holidays or childrens birthdays and stuff like that,
but if you need a "good" camera this is probably not your next phone.

This is the exact reason I don't fast charge my phones. Anytime a phone has a sealed battery it goes on an anker smart charger. I have never had problems with a charger or battery when used on an Anker.
I highly recommend one. My girlfriend uses one for her Pro 3 and charges every night and we purchased it on release day and battery is just as good if not betted than then.
I agree with rootuser, if you are willing to accept pictures at about average quality and to spend 2 hours on installing TWRP and, my recommendation after 4 custom roms, yesterday's new Lineage build, there is no better phone out there for the money.
Get off the fence bro.
Im in canada and interested in this phone for SO. I have an Axon 7 and if it would go on sale again, I would buy that. So -
Has anyone had warranty work done on this phone, and how was it?
Where's a good place to buy in Canada that will retain warranty?
If I ended up buying at bestbuy in the US, can I retain warranty in canada?
Guys, why thinking about buying blabla?!
This is a great phone with a great price, and finally the Roms are getting great... The devs jumping on the train and this phone gets even better day by day....
What are you searching for? Support? Service stores? Go get urself an Apple or Samsung and pay 800 bugs.
Power, community... Direct contact and support of devs...?? - this is your phone! Never mind behind which border you are located....
