Custom ROM recommandations - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Unfortunately, my pixel C has now also got the problem that I can enter my unlock code on the lockscreen without unlocking the device. It's nice that the problem has been known for a long time and that Google is not doing anything about it.
Therefore, I now have no other option than to reinstall my Pixel C to get access to it again.
I want to switch directly to a custom ROM.
Is there a recommendation here? It should be stable and if possible, an update to Android 8.1 via dirty flash should be possible.
Is there a recommended ROM or should I take an 8.1 beta and update it later to official (dirty flash if possible)?
Do custom ROMs have the same problem to lock you out of the device despite correct unlock code?
Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator

I have always been disabling the lockscreen so i can't tell you about that, but i use Remix OS 3.0 (unfortunately not further supported and based on marshmallow) I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to you, but since I don't know if there is a fix for meltdown/sepctre you should wait till somebody will give some information to that in my meltdown/spectre thread.

Zuk Z2 incoming, should I flash a new rom?

Hello guys, I've just purchased a Z2 from Gearbest and was wondering whether to flash the existing rom or not. Out of your knowledge, which are the best roms available 1) for stability and home button funtionality (despite maybe having Android M), 2) best Nougat rom (is Unofficial Cyano 14.1 worth it?).
I am a person who flashes custom ROM on my AS SOON AS I get my new phone, like in the first hour here is what I've learnt and I would suggest to you:
1. Use your phone with pre-installed ROM for at least a week. Do not be bothered about software issues, but pay close attention to hardware issues. As I've learnt on forums, pre-installed Z2 ROM does not support OTA. If that's the case,
2. Go to official ZUK forums and download the latest official ROM and flash it. Use it for another week looking out for any hardware issues. You can also download phone tester apps from play store.
2B. If you find any hardware issues, make use of your warranty and get it fixed.
3. Only when you're sure that your new phone is free from any hardware issues, flash a custom rom.
In terms of ROMs, it's best to start with CyanogenMod (Now LineageOS) before you try something else. LineageOS builds have just started, but if you give it a week or two, Z2 builds should come.

Hi, I'm in the same situation as you. Purchased mine on January 16th also from Gearbest. It's been 10 days already and I can't wait for it.
I think I'm gonna flash the official rom first and then wait a bit. A lot is happening right now for this device, and many new roms are beeing released so we can be sure that we'll have many options in a few weeks. And since I'm seriously considering going google free with this phone I'll take my time.
Lets keep in touch when our phones arrive.
Cm is good , check Mokee both are good

Help setting up new device

I recently ordered a Lenovo P2 from banggood, and expect to get it still this week or the next. Meanwhile I have a few doubts, and I thought this is the best place to ask, so please bear with me...
1 - On the description, banggood says it's multilanguage (includes screenshots), but I can see no reference to it being a242 or c72. If it is c72, is there a way to change it to a242?
2 - Also, on the product comments, they say the device has custom firmware, which I don't really like, so I want to flash the most recent official firmware. Where can I find it?
3 - About boot unlocking: if the device is shipped with a custom ROM, should I presume the boot is already unlocked? How can I know if it's locked or unlocked?
4 - Lastly (!): what's the current best ROM for the P2, regarding battery (if not the official ROM)?
Thank you very much in advance for your patience and answers!
1) Yes, there is an thread explaining just that.
2) It will be available at XDA itself .Do some searching.
3) It probably is unlocked. It you want to check settings>about>build number (tap 7 times to enable developer options)>you can see the status there.
4) There are quite some ROMs for the device
1. Resurrection remix
2. AOSP extended
3. AICP
4. Lineage OS
But all the custok ROMs have LED and low call volume and no VOLTE support as a common bug.
But there is a third party solution for LED.

Upgrade from Nougat custom ROM, baseband update, Treble - Need some Help please

Hi Friends
I have been using crDroid 7.1.2 on Zuk Z2 plus for last 1 year almost. Tried a few ROMs at that time and settled with crDroid. Did not get much time after that due to hectic work schedules.
Now, I am planning to upgrade to a stable Oreo Rom. AEX and Jaguar seem most popular, but I would experiment with few others like crDroid as well.
However, I have few concerns and doubts where I would request your guidance and help. I did some research myself and went through lot of threads but still some questions remain:
1) I face two irritating issues on my phone. Not sure if it is a device issue or ROM or baseband issue:
a) While on speaker on a call, the person on the other side cannot hear me clearly. My voice is extremely distorted.
b) Same happens on call recordings even without being on speaker. My voice is totally distorted in all call recordings.
So, someone suggested me to update baseband by flashing ZUI 1.9 and subsequent versions. My current baseband is 1.76 Indian. Multiple doubts on how to go about doing this safely and efficiently:
a) Do I need to flash complete Chinese ZUI ROMs in this sequence? 1.9 -> 3.5 -> 4.0? Does the 4.0 ZUI support VoLTE?
b) How to flash these, QPST, TWRP, QFIL - See different options mentioned in different threads.
c) Also, saw some directly flashable baseband zips without the need to flash ZUIs or to flash baseband 1.70 chinese first.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...oreo-firmwarebaseband-twrp-flashable-t3776254
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-zuk-z2/how-to/baseband-radiomodem-z2-plus-twrp-t3749988
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75584934&postcount=9
Which is the latest and most stable baseband version. I understood that the baseband version number doesn't change but there are updates on each version of ZUI.
How to fallback to 1.76 Indian baseband in case something goes wrong.
Please suggest what is the best and safest approach. Not much awareness of usage of QPST, QFIL etc. Used TWRP before for flashing ROMs. Do not want to end up bricking my device.
2) If I flash these Chinese ZUI ROMs, I guess the bootloader will be relocked? I have the unlock_bootloader.img which I originally used to unlock the bootloader. Guess, that can be reused to unlock it again. Just wanted to confirm, no other complications here?
3) About Treble and Non Treble TWRPs and ROMs, which one is preferable? After flashing the Chinese ZUIs or directly flashing latest Basebands depending on outcome of point 1, I believe I will have to flash the latest TWRP (Treble / Non Treble). Also, accordingly I believe I will need to change the partition name: Factory2Vendor ?
4) Which ROM and Kernel combination would you suggest. Priorities are No bugs, good Battery life, VoLTE, Less heating, Smooth UI and customizations like in AEX / crDroid / RR etc. Gaming is not priority.
Also, in my current crDroid Nougat, although Magisk Hide, hides the root from most apps but some apps like Google Tez, Microsoft Intune Company portal etc detect the root and does not allow usage. I need to have my official mailbox setup via Microsoft Company portal and Outlook. Which is not allowed on crDroid Nougat with Magisk but works fine on my Moto G running on Lineage OS 7.1.2 (Unrooted).
5) Finally, anything else which I might be missing or not considering? Please suggest me high level steps for the above. Specially for point 1.
Kindly help.

I didn't read the whole post as it is really long.
But I understood it is about baseband.
You can flash the baseband and other firmwares from zui 4 without any problem via twrp itself.
But as far as I know 1.76 also works pretty well.

Thanks and Sorry for the long post. Not only about baseband, but I want to upgrade to an Oreo Rom.
Someone suggested to change the baseband as well as I am facing following two issues:
1) If I put the phone on speaker while on a call, the person on other side cannot hear me clearly. Extremely distorted voice.
2) My voice is very distorted in all call recordings.
So, I thought I would try updating the baseband by ZUI chinese flash incrementally.
Kindly check my main post and suggest the steps.
Also, if the chinese baseband doesn't works well, how can I come back to 1.76?
But as you suggested the latest baseband can be directly flashed using TWRP, shall I flash this:

Have you done the factory to vendor zip flashing process?

No. Not yet. Still on Nougat old custom rom from last year. If I have to flash ZUI then Factory to Vendor has to be done later I believe? That's why waiting to get more advises from this thread before deciding the course of action
This is my current setup.
This rom used to give excellent battery life and deep sleep earlier but now loses lot of battery overnight. Always awake

Don't flash zui.
Follow this guide
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-zuk-z2/how-to/z2plus-treble-roms-flashing-reverting-t3778287
Then you can install both treble and non-treble roms.
If you want to go back to zui then you can qfil without any issue.
Cheers

Need help going from AOSP to Stock MIUI

I know there is lots of Information out there, but since it varies widely and doing something wrong might brick my phone, i need some help.
My phone is unlocked, Anti 4 on Liquid Remix (9.0). I was on MIUI 10 Beta before unlocking. I now want to go back to MIUI 10 Global Developer Rom.
There seem to be two ways of doing it. Either TWRP or MiFlash. Also, there seem to be two sources for official Roms:
http://en.miui.com/download-341.html and http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
One being Fastboot Roms, the others not? Also, with the fastboot files, there is only a global stable option, no Developer Version.
So what gives? Which of those do i do? Can i still assume, that MiFlash will only flash something that won't brick my device? Any hint which Rom to Flash how would be highly appreciated:good:

Thanks, i just bit the bullet. The "Fastboot" Rom, latest Stable Global, flashed via MiFlash worked perfectly fine. Looks like MIUI 10 is now in the stable channel, so i'm back to 10.
On another note. While ARB isn't bad in itself, the uncertainty it creates in "users" is ridiculous. As a Sysadmin and XDAer (Romaholic) for over 10 years, i consider myself rather seasoned in those things. And even i can't get to the point where i'm 100% sure beforehand wether what i'm flashing is safe. Thank god all went well. And the Note 5 will be the first phone not running on AOSP for me. MIUI is that good.

Looking for stock, debloated, deodexed, microG-backed MIUI rom

So I came back to the forum after 6 months and was pleasantly surprised by the number of custom roms available now. From the few (currently trending) threads I checked out, I see that either there are still some kind of bugs are still lingering or the dev abandoned the project or the thread was closed or ... I think you get the point. For this reason, I'd rather stick with the official stock rom but I never quite liked the bloatware (both mi and google) and google tracking. To maximise performance and battery life, I wish to clean my rom of all of these stuff or, if possible, install a pre-configured one.
I have some questions though:-
1. Best way to debloat?
Yes, I have tried adb uninstall command when I first got the phone but for some reason, that didn't work. I saw a recent guide on the forum for this purpose that I could try later.
2. Any experience with microG on MIUI?
I don't know if it's possible/working on MIUI roms since this is my first Xiaomi device.
3. Recommended custom ROM?
I may have missed out on all the good stuff during my absence. If you could recommend a rom you find the most stable and clean, even if it is AOSP, it would save me a lot of time.
Look, you are probably going to tell me that I could have done a bit more search on my own before posting here. The thing is, I have returned to the whole modding stuff after 4 years so lest I might break/mess up things, I deemed it more reasonable to ask here.
Hope someone sees this. Thank you.
You're looking for the exact same thing I did.
For me the solution was lineageos with microg, magisk, fdroid store + aurora store.
Lineageos has some minor bugs for me, as well as cameras not working properly.
Reason for most bugs in the most roms is probably that they are based on Android 10,
the devs will probably be able to solve all the bugs as soon as Xiaomi releases miui 12 for this device, which will be based on Android 10.
What you are looking for is probably miui EU rom.
You can easily debloat most of the unwanted sofware with "Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot tools".
Your problems with ADB probably has to do with SU priviligies.
If I remeber correctly you have to use Xposed framework in order to get microg running on miui, I could be wrong on this!
Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks! I am more inclined to use vanilla Android than MIUI. At least now I know my desired setup is within the realm of possibility. Will surely give LineageOS a try.
