Unlocked Moto Z2 Play on Verizon? - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

Does anyone have the unlocked variant on Verizon? I'd love to know if WiFi calling works like the Verizon variant.
Thanks so much.

I do. No issues. Popped in sim from Moto X Pure Edition and set it up.
I have not used wifi calling.
I don't even know how to use wifi calling.
What are the advantages of wifi calling?

WiFi Calling Only on Verizon Variants
I have the 64 GB Unlocked Z2 Play on Verizon and no, there is no WiFi calling.
That option can only be enabled via settings options that are specific to Verizon's software. It is the one feature I really miss.

I have the unlock 1710-01. Put Verizon software on it and enabled wifi calling. Can't get video calling to work though.

Yes. Verizon firmware. You can't update it through the phone with a unlocked bootloader. Use Verizon's software upgrade assistance to update. It'll say it failed but it doesn't.

Thanks, but I'm not interested in VZW firmware.
You wrote "software" so I was thinking a Verizon app.

Just curious, did you go to MY Verizon, Log in, My devices, My Plan and Services, Manage Products & Apps, Free Products and see if your line is compatible, if so click the Git It Now button. See attached
Then, on your phone go to settings, Network & Internet, Advanced Calling and enable it there.
BTW, HD Voice vonly works (is noticeable) when you're calling another VZW phone with HD Voice (using the HD Codec).

My Z2 Play is not the Verizon version XT1710-02, but the US Unlocked version XT1710-01.

Complete firmware using fast boot. After that, you can use the software upgrade assistant.

Yes. HD voice is activated. Just can't use the video calling with Verizon built in dialer. Have to use google duo.

Do you mean "Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant for Motorola"? I can't get past not having the "Software Installation mode" for the USB connection. Does my XT1710-01 (Android 8.0.0) need to be unlocked/rooted for this to work? Whatever it takes, I would really like to get this working.

Yes you will need a unlocked boot loader. You first have to install the firmware via fastboot. Then Verizon software can be used.

[X Force] How to Manually Flash Official Firmware

THIS IS NOT FOR DROID TURBO 2 I REPEAT DONT DO THIS FOR DROID TURBO 2
How to Manually Official Firmware on any Motorola Device
Requisites:
Unlocked Bootloader if you want to flash firmware from another country or locked bootloader to flash the official firmware from the country/carrier of your device
Android Studio or Minimal ADB and Fasboot (i personally recommend Minimal Adb and Fastboot because thats all we gonna need and its lighter than Android Studio 2 Mb vs 800Mb)
Official Firmware you want to flash
mFastboot (motorola Fastboot) i uploaded it for you: https://mega.nz/#!pI9iVZwS!CZTh_-wCl-qyta4Q0yZuPk_TB6Wq7Z4zElk6eArXrXk
RSD LITE is the fastest way if you want to install the official firmware of your phone, download latest RSD lite, download the firmware of your phone carrier/country, open rsd select the .zip and start flash, your phone will reboot when done, thats all, RSD lite doesnt work if you want to flash firmware from another country, just your phone default carrier/country firmware
Installation:
1.- Install MAaF
Install Minimal ADB and Fastboot
2.- Install mFastboot
Copy the contents of mfastboot.zip and put them on Minimal ADB and Fastboot Folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot)
Now you have working Fastboot AND mFastboot
3.- Copy Firmware
Copy the contents of your desired firmware to Minimal ADB and Fastboot Folder like this:
Now you are ready to flash!
First turn off your device and Put it on fastboot mode (Power and volume down for 2 seconds with your phone off)
4.- Get Detected
type
Code:
fastboot devices
on minimal adb to see if your pc detects your phone on fastboot mode
if you get some numbers and letters like the picture you are ready to go.
if not, you are missing drivers, looks for Motorola Device Manager
5.- Install
Copy and Paste these commands on Minimal ADB and Fastboot:
If you are upgrading to Marshmallow use this:
Code:
mfastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.8
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.9
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.10
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.11
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash bluetooth BTFM.bin
mfastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
mfastboot erase customize
mfastboot oem fb_mode_clear
mfastboot reboot
If you are installing a different firmware use this:
mfastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.8
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.9
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.10
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.11
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
mfastboot oem fb_mode_clear
mfastboot reboot
Click to collapse
check the amount of system.img_sparsechunk. your firmware has, if it has 10,12 or 15 add the extra lines required.
And thats all, as easy as copy from here and paste on cmd.
when your phone finishes flashing just press enter to execute mfastboot reboot and you will boot the new firmware.
Tip:
you can remove/skip the line
Code:
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
if you want to keep your custom recovery like TWRP
remember:
Flashing another firmware will erase all your information
i know that you can flash without erasing anything but that causes many many errors and inestability i've seen it a lot of times so i encourage to erase everything every time you flash a different firmware, better start fresh.
FAQ
i have a X Force and i want to flash Verizon (or another Firmware) will it work???
Flashing different Kinzie phones firmware will work and boot, however getting signal its another history, all x force are unlocked and there is no problem with them but if you flash droid turbo 2 firmware on moto x force you likely wont get any signal and have wifi issues.
Why i can't just flash it using RSD LITE?
Because somehow it detects the firmware you are on, so you can only flash your original firmware
Why did you not include gpt.bin in the flashing???
Because if you were on marshmallow, installed brasil or another firmware back to lollipop your gpt.bin version will be greater than the one you'll try to flash and it will FAIL TO FLASH, dont worry just skip that line.
Why If i flashed UK/Mexico/Brasil Firmware it says the name of my original Firmware???? did it failed??
Motorola Somehow stores in a separate partition your original firmware name, even if you flash another from another country it will say the name of the original firmware you had, dont worry it doesnt affect anything.
Can i go back to lollipop if i flashed the Mexico or Brasil stock marshmallow???
Yes you can flash back to lollipop without risk of brick if you flashed the mexican or LAT firmware using the method of this thread.
Where i can get my official firmware???
you can get it in another thread i have: [All Kinzie][Official] Stock Firmware Moto X Force / Droid Turbo 2
Im in mexico or brasil Lollipop or marshmallow how can i get root?
Just boot or flash TWRP and flash Super SU for android 5.1 or 6.0.1 by chainfire.
Protip: (my view on flashing soak test on locked devices)
DONT YOU EVER EVER EVER FLASH A SOAK TEST IF YOU HAVE LOCKED BOOTLOADER OR DONT WANT TO UNLOCK, GPT.BIN AND SOME OTHER BOOTLOADER FILES WILL BE UPDATED AND WILL FAIL IF YOU TRY TO FLASH BACK TO OLDER VERSIONS YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE FIRMWARE TO GET OFFICIALLY RELEASED AS A FULL (NOT OTA) AND EVEN THAT ITS NOT A GUARANTEE THAT YOU'LL HAVE YOUR PHONE BACK WORKING, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE, UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER ITS BEST TO TRY FIRMWARE.
this is a Q&A thread, so if you have any questions just post them here!
i took my time to upload and write this guide for you, so...

it was motoboot because im actually mfastboot not regular fastboot but i'll change it anyway, should be the same.
if there's no radio and you put the command it just continues, theres no danger on keeping it there.

im avoiding flashing NON-HLOS.bin because it bricks your device if you reflash a older version and has compatibility issues with some firmware, it doesnt affect anything.

I am just following the guide, unlock oem -> mfastboot -> reboot -> wifi issue (in marshmallow)
With all my respect to OP, but considering people having issues with WiFi after manual flash, it makes me think, that the key for successful upgrade is in the list of commands. When I did it on my device ,I flashed every single command from flashfile.xml , starting from line

What do you mean by "Unlocked Verizon device"?
Anyway, don't even try to flash any Force firmware. Turbo 2 and Force are very similar but not exactly the same. Radio/modem is different, Turbo 2 has locked and unlockable bootloader, some additional apps for Verizon, etc.
If someone find exploit to unlock Turbo 2 bootloader then you may get custom rom or modified Force rom for Turbo 2.

Dude, read again or search and educate yourself. Turbo 2 is sim free, sim unlocked or whatever you wish to call it but has LOCKED bootloader. That's not the same thing. I was using Turbo 2 with non Verizon sim in US on At&T.
Compare your and mine sig. xt1585 vs xt1580, Turbo 2 vs Moto X Force.
Btw, why you didn't order Force instead? Much better device for any non Verizon network.
P. S.

The fact that you bought Turbo 2 from Moto web site without a sim card from Verizon doesn't mean that the device has unlockable bootloader. The majority of Verizon devices are compatible with GSM carriers (so-called world phones) and can be used on their networks , but their bootloader remains locked, unless your device is XForce, which is GSM only and has unlockable bootloader.

Moto E4 Qualcomm (Owens) completely back to stock

WARNING: if the gpt.bin flash did not work, please stop and do not continue with the rest of the commands. It has been brought to my attention that software upgrades to the phone has changed the gpt and may not allow you to go back to the original stock firmware.
For all of you who DID NOT do a System image backup in TWRP and then found out your backup doesn't work.
First get your stock firmware here, the only place to get Moto stock firmware!
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto E4 Plus/Stock/
Then get fastboot. Google fastboot or grab the one from here: This one still works:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
If your fastboot directory isn't in your $PATH or you don't know how to do that, then copy fastboot into the same folder where you unzipped your stock firmware.
Got to the folder where you put everythig, open up a command or powershell prompt. Hold down shift, right click, "open command window here".
Now for the fun. You veterans can just look at the flashfile.xml to see the order. Those of you who are new, here are the commands you need to do. You could probably copy the entire thing and past it in your command window at one time. But I like to type it out.... line by line. You know, old school.
Commands:
Code:
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash gpt gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem hlos.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase ddr
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
the command to erase ddr will probably fail, but that shouldn't affect anything. I have tested by bringing my Moto E4 Plus that was running Lineage OS back to 100% stock. Of course, then I went right back to Lineage
Outstanding. Thank you for the post. I'm sure this will get used quite a bit. I did do a backup but it's always nice to have contingencies at the ready.

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but which firmware package should I download and use for the Device purchased straight from Motorola? There are quite a few there and I don't want to flash the wrong one. This device was supposed too work on any US carrier and I would like to keep it that way, but my carrier is Verizon. All I had to do, when I got the device was install my Verizon Sim out of my Nexus 6 and it worked great. I do test for Cricket network too and that is a GSM radio so as I said, I would like it to have the firmware that would have come right from Motorola for this specific device. Thank you in advance.

All I had to do, when I got the device was install my Verizon Sim out of my Nexus 6 and it worked great. I do test for Cricket network too and that is a GSM radio so as I said, I would like it to have the firmware that would have come right from Motorola for this specific device. Thank you in advance.

Thank you very much. You sir are an awesome person.
I have another question and forgive me for being a pain but all steps went ok but at the end where the re-boot takes place it just keeps flashing back and forth from a black screen with "Bad Key" in the upper left corner and then to a screen with a colorful circle that says "erasing". I figured it was just doing a factory reset but it just keeps flashing back and forth between the 2 screens. Any idea what to try ? I tryed to boot to recovery and get the same thing. Thank you for any help.

Did you remember to do an fastboot OEM fb_mode_clear?
no I didn't do that. I will go back over your instructions and re-do it. Thank you again for your assistance. I usually don't bug people for help and try to fix things on my own so I really appreciate you help.

Actually that is the command input right before the reboot command so I guess I did do that command. I will research this more and thank you for your help once again.

The cmd commands above aren't written correctly for carrier unlocked E4 Plus's. Hlos.bin isn't in the unlocked stock ROM, NON-HLOS.bin is. Also, "flasty" should be flash. Here is the correct commands. This worked on my unlocked phone.
Code:
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash gpt gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn

For OP @zerogun & those of you wondering which stock ROM Firmware to grab for Boost Mobile's XT1776 (owens), I used this one and it worked 100%. The Fastboot cmd list in the 10th post or so i nears perfect, (all the rest is Golden) except that for the Boost Mobile FW's:
fastboot flash oem.img
..needs to actually be:
fastboot flash oem.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash oem.img_sparsechunk.1

I haven't had that problem. Have you scanned your PC for virus/malware?
I would like to relock my bootloader but on this firmware it says the boot is not signed. Can I relock it after I do the ota as they should be signed then right?

I read in another thread that it was possible by using a Custom ROM but haven't tried it myself..
Although the Custom ROMs should work on several Carriers, this is a "Completely Back to Stock" thread..

For all of you who DID NOT do a System image backup in TWRP and then found out your backup doesn't work.
First get your stock firmware here, the only place to get Moto stock firmware!
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto E4 Plus/Stock/
Then get fastboot. Google fastboot or grab the one from here: This one still works:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
If your fastboot directory isn't in your $PATH or you don't know how to do that, then copy fastboot into the same folder where you unzipped your stock firmware.
Got to the folder where you put everythig, open up a command or powershell prompt. Hold down shift, right click, "open command window here".
Now for the fun. You veterans can just look at the flashfile.xml to see the order. Those of you who are new, here are the commands you need to do. You could probably copy the entire thing and past it in your command window at one time. But I like to type it out.... line by line. You know, old school.
Commands:
Code:
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash gpt gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem hlos.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase ddr
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
the command to erase ddr will probably fail, but that shouldn't affect anything. I have tested by bringing my Moto E4 Plus that was running Lineage OS back to 100% stock. Of course, then I went right back to Lineage

The rom which came with your device is called stock rom. You can find it here
https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/foru...l-stock-moto-g5-cedric-firmware-t3733897/amp/
You can flash the old rom but you should not flash gpt and bootloader. If you flash bootloader and gpt your device will get hard bricked. So I suggest you to don't flash gpt and bootloader if you're having old stock rom. If you having latest stock rom then you can flash bootloader and gpt.

Ok I flashed the original stock ROM and I ended up getting 0 IMEI and no network. I followed your guide :
It seem like many of are not getting imei after doing this also.let me explain you in a clear way
Step1:-run on a custom rom such as lineage,aosp...
(Note:-if you have 4g/LTE in custom rom then skip step2)
Step2:-turn off your phone and get into bootloader and run the following commands
Fastboot erase modemst1
Fastboot erase modemst2
Step3:-make a back up of efs in Twrp 64x bits(save the efs in external memory so it will not get erased) and erase data, cache only
Step4:-now flash 32xbits Twrp then
Step5:-flash stock rom using following commands
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.o
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
fastboot reboot
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
Step6:-now reboot your phone
Step7:-you will get the Imei and 4g/LTE
Step8:-don't use OTA, use adb you can download updates from here
https://drive.google.com/drive/mobil...Py?usp=sharing
Step9:-reboot to stock recovery and select apply update from adb
Step10:-run the following command to apply update
Adb sideload filename.zip
Step11:-In may security patch you may lose imei
Step12:-now install Twrp 64x bits and restore efs from it which you have make it before
Step13:-reboot your device.done
Now you will get the Imei,4g/LTE and latest update.
Let me know if it works for you.

This didn't work though, I have been messing around and finally got IMEI and 3G back again by reinstalling pixel experience ROM. But 4G doesn't even come up anymore when I select it in the Android network option, It just stays 3G when i select 4G, before it would say 4G with a X through it at the top of the home screen.
I have some questions, why do you need to flash 32bit TWRP because after you use the commands to flash stock it wipes thw TWRP anyway? also where can I get the 32bit as I can only find 64bit version.
Is that the reason why I got 0 IMEI because I didn't use 32 bit TWRP?
Finger print and loud speaker is now working but I REALLY need 4G back, please tell me how I can accomplish this?
I backed up my EFS AFTER I used the following commands:
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
But all that did was remove my IMEI.
I am lost how to get 4G back
Restoring EFS does nothing....
Thanks

Now your in which rom stock or custom??? If you're on custom rom just use this command's
fastboot erase modemst1

If you are in stock you need to go back to custom check if 4g is there if not use the above command and then come to stock without using this codes
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
And gpt, bootloader.

I am on Pixel rom with 3G only, no 4G, I just used those commands and rebooted the phone, it wiped my IMEI and gave me no signal..... so that doesn't work....
I then had to install stock rom again (without the above codes and gpt/bootloader it didn't give me imei stilI) So I wipe data, reinstall pixel custom rom and still no imei or 3g, I then installed Oreo soak test with all the commands (including fastboot erase modemst1/2 and gpt/bootloader) then flash pixel again to get my 3g back... I think I am doomed and 4g doesn't work anymore, many people are saying the same thing. Even on this guys video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmKg84IXEbo
I also can't restore my EFS file as when I try to it says some error about a partition?
Apprently the only way to fix it is install official android 8.0 that guy said? is this true?

Not sure, I did use 32bit twrp for something I can't remember what though, it wasn't stock rom as I used the commands to flash stock rom.
Also tried this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/how-to/how-to-recovery-4g-moto-g5-t3787208
But that didn't work either, using the erase modem commands just wipes my IMEI. I tried this on Pixel rom though not the DotOS, surely that doesn't make any difference?

Using Sprint Z2 Force on Verizon with Verizon Firmware

My friend let me have his Gold Z2 Force for around $50 since my phone broke. He never used it, like new condition. Sweet.
Anyway, I am on verizon, he's on sprint so it's the Sprint Variant. I was searching around before I bought it, and I heard that I could unlock the bootloader for this specific model of the phone as opposed to the Verizon one which has a locked down bootloader. This is great, since I would want to root it.
Here is my question, after looking around it doesn't seem that I can get a clear answer. Would I be able to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP, and flash the verizon firmware onto the phone? I've already checked, the LTE bands are supported (Bands 2,4 and 13 along with the now legacy af CDMA fallback that is probably dead.).
I know you can use the Sprint version, on Verizon as it is, so even if I can't do all of this I can still use it with no issues, which is a plus.
Edit, steps further down below
I've got a Razr HD (XT925). After unlocking the bootloader, I could flash the Verizon fw to it. Flash a variant fw to an another unlocked-bootloader one (cross-flash) is capable. I cannot unlock my ATT one so I dont know exactly. I can only guess. Dont try to kill your phone :"(

I'll try not to, lol.
That said, I either suck at finding it or just can't find it, but would you be able to point me towards where I could find the Verizon FW for the Z2 Force? I've tried searching but can't find it.

Actually, shockingly, yes. I was. And it works. I did **** up the first few tries through trial and error, but currently I am using the Sprint Z2 Force on Verizon, running Verizon firmware with everything running. Glitches and all the same from a Z2 Force that would come with Verizon. Hell, you even get their bloat! Truly the Verizon Experience with the addition of Root and an Unlocked bootloader.
Doing this, I'd assume you have sim unlocked it and unlocked the Bootloader of your Z2 Force . Also note that this wipes EVERYTHING, SO BACK UP.
Also note that considering I was stunned when it worked, it's possible I missed a step while writing this up so again, have a window of time to be free. And a backup phone of possible.
The way I did it, is first prepping to have a few hours of your time because it could take a while. Set up like 2 or so hours where no one is going to call you on your phone since you'll need your Sim in the Z2 in case anything goes wrong.
Then, you need to download the latest Verizon Z2 Force Firmware. You don't have to technically do this, but updating is going to be a pain since you aren't going to be allowed to take OTA's (more on that later.) So just get the one with the January Security Patch as that is the most recent one
Here is the Verizon Firmware. Just sort by date to the most recent one for this year, there is only one lol.
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/nash/official/VZW/
Next is download the flashall utility. You aren't going to use the flashall.bat, but adb is in there. Extract the Verizon firmware into that flash all folder. From there, assuming you have adb debugging and all, boot into the bootloader.
Once you have everything prepped, follow this guide here. The first one, with wipe
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-play/how-to/fastboot-rom-flash-update-stock-rom-t3838213
But, if you don't want to open another tab, here are the instructions. There is an important thing to note. The Verizon Firmware has it's OEM in 2 chunks, as opposed to the single .img file the others do. In this case you would run the fastboot oem, drag oem chunk 0 into cmd and run it, then run fastboot oem again and do the same for oem chunk 1 from the folder you are performing everything from. I also think we are missing sparsechunks 6-10, so just follow the steps for what files you have and ignore the ones you don't. We also have system sparse chunk b's, two files, to flash as well. We seem to have a few files others don't.
Run these commands one by one.
fastboot getvar max-sparse-size
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash oem oem.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash oem oem.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase carrier
fastboot erase ddr
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
Do not forget to run fastboot oem fb_mode_clear, otherwise you will boot into fastboot at every reboot.
After that, everything should be working. It worked for me I'll try to help if anything goes wrong but I hope that doesn't happen.
That said, an important note about updates and OTA's. Our Z2 Force is not a real Verizon Z2 Force. Something internally, most likely the fact it's not certified and is the same reason it doesn't show up in Verizon's site as an offical Z2 Force, is the reason we cannot take OTA's. If an Update were to come out for our phone, we would need to download the latest firmware. Once someone can get the latest OTA from Verizon for us, we then have to use the same ADB method to update our devices.
The steps for updating without deleting data are in the link to the thread above, but here are the commands for doing so without wiping data. Again, reminder that our flash oem is in two chunks, And we don't have sparsechunks 6-10.
fastboot getvar max-sparse-size
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash oem oem.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash oem oem.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase carrier
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
Again, do not forget to run fastboot oem fb_mode_clear. I cannot stress this enough because I nearly said "**** this ****" because of this simple command that I forgot to copy in. This is what puts our phone into it's state to flash firmware. So disable it once you are done.
I would assume that this would also work for flashing the Sprint to a true unlocked version. I was tempted to test it, since the unlocked retail versions get updates first and are already on the latest March Security patch. But, I was stopped because I could not find the retail firmware anywhere. The link for the retail in this thread 404'd, so this is the next best thing.
I did encounter an anomaly once everything was said and done. The phone app wasn't showing up once I had all my apps set up. I had to find it, clear the cache, and for good measure disabled and re-enabled it and it never disappeared/stopped responding again. I did end up using Magisk to install the Google Dialer framework and am using that with no issues. Aside the issue that I can't download it from the playstore, so I had to download it from a reputable site.
Note that I never had sprint service on it, so anything related to that or battery life on the sprint rom is something I have no clue about. But, I seem to get very good battery life on it.
I posted some screen shots below.
Just trying to understand something. Does verizon block sprint phones via a whitelist or via firmware?

I'm not sure, it might be the Whitelist. Since if you check your MyVerizon account it still doesn't believe its a Z2 Force. The phone's guts are the same but not all the IMEI numbers are registered.
Here are the VZW firmware. Android 9.0 1/31/2020 appears to be the most recent:

Sorry I'm not good at English
I have the z2 force xt1789-03, I flashed the wrong version of fw android 9 so I lost the baseband when I was in the android rom 8. I tried to flash the latest version but I could not get back the baseband. Please show me how to get it back to the beginning!

If you have flashed a Pie ROM to your device you will not be able to go back to Oreo and have a working device. Did you try to flash an official version of Pie that was released by your carrier or did you flash a version that you found on the forums somewhere?
Getting baseband back and making wifi and sims work
I had the same issue and got stuck hopelessly but after a few hit and tries, I finally made my wifi and cellular network work on my sprint smartphone (baseband was gone).
what you need to do step by step is:
1. download pie variant of Verizon carrier from mirrors dot lolinet dot com/firmware/moto/nash/official/VZW/ (replace dot with . )
2. download latest pie variant of Retail variant of z2 force from mirrors dot lolinet dot com/firmware/moto/nash/official/RETAIL/
3. copy NON-HLOS.bin from verizon variant and copy it to retail variant of pie firmware
4. download any flashall file and rewrite it (open with notepad and edit, it is as simple as that) or run commmands in following order in retail firmware folder:
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot getvar max-sparse-size
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash bluetooth BTFM.bin
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system_b system_other.img
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase carrier
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase ddr
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot-bootloader
5. run flashall and let it boot.
6. enjoy
NOTE: reversion of baseband is not possible and maybe custom roms will work no more but you will get to make your device work.

Hi, excuse my English, I'm using a translator.
I have a problem, update my Sprint z2 force with a RETAIL firmware and all right just a couple of problems, the sim does not detect, I do not know if I lost the unlock-sim, because the wifi works perfectly, Will they know what it could be?
I did the above and it didn't work, it still doesn't detect the sim, should I flash the file of a Mexican company? I'm from México
Are there anyone has successful with this method ?

I read somewhere in this forum, your variant -05 can back to normal.
My variant -03 did not work with this method too.

Hi,
confirmed working on my xt1789-03, with the following considerations:
-> Wifi and bluetooth now working
-> Sim card seems to be detected, but no radio or signal.
-> IMEI remains 0
-> When boot a message appears: "Verity Mode is set to disabled"
So, little step to success. From now, I have a little tablet with wifi.
Many thanks to Muar_96
