Really good 2X telephoto zoom portrait lens for Google Pixel 2 - Google Pixel 2 XL Accessories

I didnt expect much from this lens but it turns out it is really really good. You can use the Moment case with this lens and its much much better than the moment telephoto lens.

nice to see some cheaper alternative to moment lenses.
out of curiosity, since you have the pixel 2 xl and moment case, can i ask which screen protector you use for the phone if any? Not sure if anyone with moment case has tried the whitestone dome glass if the case pushes up on the screen protector at all or not. thats what i'm considering since i was happy with the quality when i installed on the note 8. any input would be useful.

I have the Skinomi screen protector and it works fine

thanks for the reply. i'm looking for a tempered glass solution. will wait for my case to arrive from Moment and might give the whitestone dome glass a try.

Wow the difference is pretty great. Sad that moment failed in the telephoto lens.

steinheil vs martin field vs boxwave

so i'm debating on which to get i heard they are all very good i just never used any one of them so i'm not sure. anybody have an opinion on which is the best hard screen protector?
Handhelditems - Anti-glare
Got a 3-pack with 3 day shipping for $9.
However, if I had to choose...I would go with boxwave
I was actually debating over the box wave and the Steinheil and ended up ordering the Steinheil just because from what i read and peoples reviews it seemed like a premium product for the same basic price as the boxwave one (although.. they are prob the same damn thing... just like Zagg vs others that are made from the same 3m product)...
I ordered the anti-glare and it shipped yesterday.. so will let ya know when it gets here.
currently i have bodyguardz and didnt like the rubbery feel of it... i ordered the steinheil crystal and will post up a review when i receive it
so it looks like everyone is leaning toward the steinheil more then? what i want to know is the cost of the martin field justified?
I just got the Steinheil today and these jackoffs didn't cut any holes in the shield for the front facing camera or light sensors making the shield pretty much worthless
Martin fields ftw!
martin fields is cut perfectly. even has a lens cover. crystal clear on the Evo (and HD2). steinheil was crap. would've loved to have supported a california based company, but they need to iron out the kinks in their screen designs.

Doubt it.. there are only so many manufactures of the material that these things are made of... its prob made from the same material.

Obviously you have never shopped for a real camera. I know the front facing vga is not super high quality, but in the camera world it's all about the glass. If you put anything in front of it, yes especially "clear" plastic, it will affect the quality. The light sensor though will probably be fine, but who knows, it could be enough to make everything brighter and look suckier.
not sure about that; I have a wrapsol ultra package on my evo, which, on the screen side, covers up the camera and light sensor, and, they both work perfectly..I have had lots of video chats, and my image is a clear as a bell, and the light sensor works perfectly

News flash... this is a cell phone... and these are 99.9% optically clear pieces of plastic... if you are trying to shoot the cover of glamour.. you might want to grab your dslr for that... Oh.. and you probably arent taking ANY pics with the 1.3mp in the front which is what this plastic covers up.
And yes, i do know about cameras, lenses and shopping for one.. but.. as i hope you are aware.. this is a cell phone (which was stated above just for clarification)

yeah, I was concerned when I got it that the front camera would be messed up by covering it up, but, that isnt the case....of course the back side has cut outs for the kickstand and the 8mp camera..

I have the Martin Fields and really like it - it's not the same as an Invisible Shield, since it's a rigid plastic not a flexible one. I tried a shield and ended up getting crap underneath - the fields one is washable with mild soap, so even if you get stuff underneath it's easy to deal with.

Is the camera lens made of glass?
I really don't want to put a protector on it fearing it would alter photos.

I'm pretty sure you won't find a protector that covers the camera. Both my front and back protectors go around the camera.
fairly sure the camera lens is glass- mine already has two small chips in it. Not happy about it, as this is my first of 5+ phones to have anything like this happen to the camera.
Doesn't seem to effect the images, but i am still not pleased.

sorry to revive this thread but is there anyone that knows for sure if the camera lens cover is glass of plastic? just curious because i have some scratches on mine that i was going to try to buff out with a plastic-x headlight scratch remover.
this stuff works great on hard plastic and just wanted confirmation before applying it to a glass cover. thanks

yea i just have some scratches on the lens cover and was curious of the material. figure if i did try to use the plastic-x i may do more harm then good but was just curious. a little ocd. i guess if they get significantly worse i can always replace the rear housing. thanks

Camera Protection?

Is there anywhere I can order a screen protector just for the cameras?
I already have a scratch and would like to protect them from future abuse.

Pretty much what I want, just not willing to pay more than I paid for two screen protectors. Hopefully others will start selling these at reasonable prices.

I'm using a medium-weight case on mine. No screen protector though.
On shopping markets like AliExpress or Gearbest you can find them. I think I'm also going to buy one
I just got my Nillkin protector and was a bit disappointed since the camera lens protector was just a plastic film instead of a tempered glass one. Though I must say it is indeed a high quality product.
Another option is a cover with cutouts for the lenses and flash. So nothing actually covers the camera lenses, but does provide some protection to glass area.

That's not a cover - that's an OEM piece to replace the actual lens glass if yours break.
I have a Savvies tempered glass protector on my G6. It didn't come with a rear camera protector and the cutout for the sensors also extends to the front camera, so theres no protection for the front camera either. I wish I'd known about the Nillkin protector before now, as I had a few Nillkin cases and protectors for my G4 in the past, and always found their gear great value for money.
I also have a Spigen "liquid crystal" clear cover on my phone. Its not the thinnest but it does seem like it will give some sort of protection.
Here's my temporary protection while I wait for the glass camera protector to arrive from China.

Yes you are absolutely right. I should have updated my previous post, but I decided to take one and bend it in half, it shattered just as you would expect glass to. So I can confirm they are actually glass.

Broken Rear Camera Glass?

I have been noticing these reports from people saying that their rear camera glass has been breaking on their own without the phone falling down the ground and having them in really good cases.
Imagine checking your phone out and seeing the camera glass cracked...
Anyone experienced this?

Let us know how good they are after hearing about the camera being shattered on there own i didn't want to take that chance at the moment I'm using a Spigen Hybrid Neo Case that i won. But will be replacing it with that case I'm getting for that camera protection but still waiting for it to get delivered.
If you drop your phone, its going to be 50/50 whether you break anything. Just don't drop your phone.
I would recommend a glass protector as the addition of a skin can reduce the brittle effect and absorb a lot of the forces
There are a lot of people also saying the glass broke without them doing anything. TBH I find this VERY hard to believe...

Same here I don't believe it looks like it was intentionally broken the hole where the cracks are look too precise.
I've applied a Spigen GlasR protector on mine. Works perfect, and doesn't introduce an awful haze to photos when using the flash either. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0844KGLZJ/
I've tried one other that advertised itself as being edge to edge but wasn't, and produced horrendous photo quality compared to the Spigen
Seems like a skin over the lens is a real sensible option. You don't have to worry about a glass cover that may affect camera lens clarity and you still get some protection to the overall camera system.

That looks like a really good lens protector how's the quality of the images when you use that zoom feature? i read on that review that it had issues with it on.
I just read an article on Techspot this morning for the days news. Some are theorizing there is some sort of gas inside the glass and it explodes outwards. If that is the case then no glass protector is gonna help with that problem. The BS part is Samsung saying its cosmetic damage and not covered under the origianl warranty. So that will cost you $400.00 dollars to repair. Or if you have Premium care it will cost $100.00 for the deductable. If it turns out this is a defect they should be fixing it free. I guess time will tell. As of now only a couple dozen have reported it.

The real question is though why would they put gas between the glass? I think it's time manufactures stopped using Gorilla Glass and use Tempered Glass instead.

No issues with the zoom. I fkd up the install of the first one, went on incorrectly and didn't line up. The second attempt was perfect and holes where they should be. No issues with image quality or pics with flash.
The only hole in the protector is for the mic, and so far has been no issue with dust accumulation, still clean as a whistle.

I noticed with the one i got from the Bay i get glare from the flash so might end up getting this one eventually.
This is why I rather use a skin or just be careful about how I use the phone/lie it down on surfaces. Because of the glare and other lens issues while trying to snap images. Rather not get anything in the way of the camera lenses.
I got a glass protector but it was really bad. So the skin should be a better solution.
Well, no idea how it can happen without dropping the phone.

Does camera lens protector affect images quality?

Thinking of getting a camera lens protector to protect it from scratches but worried it will affect the image quality. Any comments?
It sucks up 5% of the light, but the quality itself is not affected.
Might have some light reflections in your pictures when you use a cheap one.

where did you get the camera lens from man? Looking forward to buying one for me Xperia 5 too!
Am I missing something, isn't the lens already covered in Gorilla glass 6?
As long as your case lifts the lens off the surface when you put it down, you shouldn't need an extra cover.
Any extra layer over the lens is going to degrade picture quality.

I tested one and found it introduces both glare and tends to diminish clarity. I would recommend against putting one on.
This is also similar to tempered glass or hydrogel front screen protectors. The front camera is so poor IMHO that it needs as much light as possible and nothing to dimish clarity.

Yeap, anytime you add optic elements like this you degrade the performance.
Almost all smartphone cams have built in lens protectors. That piece of glass or plastic isn't the lense, it's the protector!
Get a good case with a raised guard around the cam module and it will be fine.
Replacements aren't that expensive anyway.
Thanks for the inputs. Previously, my old xperia z's lens got covered in scratches during one my trip overseas. But eventually I managed to rub off the entire coating hence removing the scratches. That's why i started looking into lens protector.
