Nextbit servers are shutting down March 1st 2018! - Nextbit Robin

So its happening.
Hi Rebels,
We would like to sincerely thank all of you for using Smart Storage. The Smart Storage service will, however, be ending on March 1st, 2018.
What happens on March 1st, 2018:
If you haven’t signed out of Smart Storage, you will be automatically logged out of our servers. Images (thumbnails in gallery) and apps (cloud icons on launcher) that are archived and are not local to the phone will not be accessible through your phone anymore. This includes Apps in the FAB tab. All the images that are backed up until that point will be available on our tools https://cloud.nextbit.com. Only the content that is local will be accessible from the phone at that point.
If you want to keep app data, be sure to restore all of your apps manually, and pin them to prevent them from being offloaded.
Until the service completely ends, we have worked very hard to provide you a way to download your pictures. This is now available at https://cloud.nextbit.com. You have the option to select images individually or download all as a large zip. Please note that the download speed depends on your internet connection. Please use the same account to login as you have used on your Robin phone.
We plan to keep this tool active until April 1st, 2018. After that, all the personal information and data that has been collected from you will be purged and we won’t be able to recover your data. However, information that must be stored in accordance with applicable laws and regulations will be stored for the period specified by the relevant laws and regulations and then disposed of immediately.
Thank you so much for supporting our team and Robin.

Is it not possible to just use another server IP?

Double post

double post.

@LlanGboy
No, as it wasn't just a backup service.
Robin's cloud storage did more than just dumping data in cloud. Its cloud storage archived the media as to save space just like Google Photos does now. And it also made sure the photos which are old and not seen for long time are the ones only archived in cloud, this made sure that the recent and most viewed photos from your gallery would still stay offline for quick access and save data. And for apps the cloud storage not only saved the app but also its data while still keeping the app icon greyed out in your device so on tap it could be restored easily and quickly. This guaranteed it would open in the last state it was used. It was done very methodically which no other services does yet.

Right its more an issue with the method of backing up rather than the backing up its self, shame

no sdcard slot, doesn't support otg, and now cloud are shutting down..

Zune software saves and restores apps

I had several bugz on my HTC Surround. Marketplace stopped working, my email quit working, I couldn't fix or update anything. So I hard reset the phone and connected to the computer and to my surprise the Zune software reinstalled all of my apps (in the background without my knowledge) and everything now works fine. All I had to do was reset my email and other personal settings.
Well that's certainly good news, I was wondering how that was going to work with paid apps, especially since Zune doesn't show them anywhere.
well for paid apps even if you uninstall them, you can reinstall them later for free as they're tied to your windows live account. it's not like desktop software where you need a serial key, your windows live account is all thats needed as the purchases are kept on history. recently when i purchased an app, i was given an invoice a week later, and on there it also shows purchase history (including ones across xbox).
Your Milage May Vary
I have found that this is true to a point, I have had the HTC Surround, the Samsung Focus and Have finalized on the HD7 (To me the best for my usage/preferences) and excluding carrier branded apps, the Zune software saved & reinstallled about 80% of my apps (this is a guestimate derived from using the three devices and not a hard number based on any formal testing) it seems that some apps like Acrobat reader and Google search had to be reinstalled manually (I have no idea why but they were not part of the auto re-install). Anyway these are my observations so far.
Cheers
BR
Apps installed from Zune on the PC will automatically restore after a hardset. Apps installed from the marketplace directly on the phone will not.
I ended up having to swap my Surround for another Surround (broken camera button) and went through the same thing. It installed several of the programs I had, but I think it only did a few because the others I bought through the phone and never "synced" it again. That's my only guess anyway.
I'm glad once it's purchased, it is tied to the account!
And what about the app's data? When Zune restores the apps, it restores the app data also? Like, saved levels of a game, etc?
Unfortunatly, this does no happen on ZuneHD. Only the apps are resintalled, but never the data.
hopefully when we get the first update and Zune makes a backup, we can then do manual backups, or at least restores back to the last update.
I had a device where I conncected it in such a way that zune saw it and complained that there was no backup and the device would require a hard reset, or to get the rom from my maunfacturer or carrier, I don't remember the exact wording, but it did mention there were no backups to restore

Transferring apps between Wp7 phones

Hi im currently contemplating exchanging my hd7 for a samsung omnia 7 but I just realised, how would I go about transferring my paid apps from the hd7 to the sammy as there ain't no back up option in Zune as there is in itunes anyone know what I should be doing
If you downloaded them from the Zune software in the computer it should automatically re-download/install them. If you downloaded them on the phone then you'll have to re-download them manually from the phone.
When you click buy it should tell you that you've already purchased it and give you the option to download it again.
ok cheers was worried it would charge me again thx
Yeah, just make sure you sign in with the same Windows Live ID and all will be good.
Exactly, it's similar to the iTunes Store, the apps are not linked to the phone, only to the Live ID that they were purchased from.
Hoping they will add some backup functionality soon to Zune properly as having Zune put some apps on but having do some yourself via the phone is a tad annoying
The only problem is that you'll lose all application data and settings (e.g. login info for Google Reader, ebooks for your reader etc. etc.), and there's no [easy] way to back them up. You can probably unlock your phone, connect it as USB drive, transfer files, copy and rename them, but that's a major hassle and isn't guaranteed to work for all apps, so probably not worth it...
Yup, and that's one of my biggest gripes about this, I installed the HTC Notes app via Zune, put some info in there etc, then forgot before I redid my phone, Zune put the app back on but no sign of the data, stupid mistake, my fault, but come on Microsoft!
Yes, this is somewhat unforgivable especially given that it's trivial to implement in WP7 (unlike WM) since apps aren't allowed to write anything outside their sandboxes. You probably just need to copy the contents of the Apps folder, and maybe some licensing information elsewhere.
My guess is that there's no app backup simply because .xap files are so easy to crack once you get them, so once they get on your PC protection is removed in a matter of seconds. Not that keeping them on the phone prevents anything but still, it makes things a bit more difficult.
My take on this is that app backup will come when MS improves their protection system in Marketplace, which may take a while. Or it will be done unofficially here, it's not that difficult once a stable method of unlocking/getting access to filesystem arrives.
We really don't need App backup though, we need App data backup. The App and data are stored in different directories, so it would pose no risk to the DRM.
It'd make sense to have a backup option in Zune where it, as part of the sync process, once a week or so backs up all user-accessible data.
What I don't like is the fact that on hard-reseting your phone it will only auto-install apps "purchased" thru Zune (the desktop software) and not apps purchased directly from the phone. There doesn't seem to be a app-purchase-history available either, so in a few months I can foresee this being a big problem. You've gone thru hundreds of different apps and all of a sudden need to reset your phone; sync it back up with Zune and it starts installing all the apps you've ever bought/tried. There needs to be a history where one can delete apps (or at least select that they don't auto-install on reset).

You are right, backing up just the app data without the .xap files would work for me just fine, the backup mechanism could just launch installation of apps from the Marketplace, I wouldn't mind that.
This solution, however, would require some smart mechanism that would only transfer app data after respective apps are already installed, otherwise I would expect a lot of people getting confused and complaining a lot.
I haven't bought a single application via desktop Zune, by the way - where does it store the .xap files? What would happen if you just copied a .xap there?
from word around, when the first update comes out, it should bring backup and restore capabilities using zune desktop. this should meet all your needs.
vangrieg, in terms of downloading via the phone, i'm presuming it's the same as if you downloaded a zip file from the web and clicked run, rather than save, the xap is downloaded and auto extracted and installed, and then the xap is disgarded.

It doesn't. The process is; You "purchase" an app or game thru the desktop software and it's automatically downloaded and installed on your phone within a few minutes. The .xap is never downloaded onto your computer.
What I was getting at previously was that apps purchased directly on the phone does not seem to re-install automatically after a device hard-reset whereas apps purchased on the desktop does. There seems to be a disconnect between services here.
So Zune just automatically redownloads apps? Then it has to have a list somewhere, so I guess this could be worked around.

This is very annoying! I've flashed a few times and it will install all the apps you've installed using Zune and you cannot stop them. You cannot remove them from the list in Zune.

There is a list in Zune where you can see all the apps you've installed. Go to Settings (up by your login name) then,

Hi cloud on Honor 8 pro has only two items for backup

Hey fellow Honor 8 pro users
I have observed that honor 8 pro has Hi cloud but is only limited to contacts and call log. Is it same for you all or is there a work around to backup more items like apps, home screen state etc.
I once happened to stumble upon a more elaborate hicloud, could select more items but it was painfully slow and my ISP had to do some maintenance same day and it kind of got failed (after spending whole morning and noon backing up fhe data)
I cannot find that option again, it allowed me to back up contacts, call log, apps and app data, homescreen state and photos (except for the camera forder perhaps due to the large size of the pics... idk why the omission)
All I can find now is a message that says this isn't enabled for your region.
I like inhouse cloud apps because it automates the restoration after a flash or factory reset. Convenient and no need to bother about forgetting an item or two during backups because it is a one time check. And the phone returns to earlier state with all your customizations.
Note I want to collect as many responses as possible and forward this to Huawei so they can implement a full fledged cloud backup in India. So please be vocal.
PS : This is only regarding 'HiCloud', yes there are third party apps but I like inhouse cloud backup like icloud, Xiaomi's mi cloud etc. So please do not start with who uses that anymore when there are this and that.
Thank You.

Space on Google Drive

Hi all!
Since 2015-01-04 I was given 1Tb on Google Drive as a bonus since I was a local guide at level 4+
Yesterday, my space ran out. (Does anyone know btw if there will be more bonus for local guides?)
So now I have two option. Pay for the drive or remove all my files.
My mail wont work again until I do one of the options.
Since mostly of my files (292,79 GB) are photos and film in originally quality. Should I remove all files and upload again? I have the originally files in my computer. Most films are in 4K, so films on Google Photo is converted to 1080p.
What should I do? Wich is the easiest way if not paying for more space?
My LAN is 1Gb down and 500mb down. It should take long to upload everyting again.
What's going to take the longest is uploading through the Pixel (as it has limited space). But you have less than 300GB so it won't take terribly long. I've uploaded probably 400GB which wasn't bad, and now my Google Photos reports taking up zero space.
I would go through the Pixel, as that would permanently free up 300 GB of space on your Google storage space (even though the unlimited original quality storage expires in 2020, per Google, whatever you upload before then through the Pixel will stay permanently free).
The only caveat is that hopefully your photos and videos have the correct EXIF photo dates, otherwise Google Photos may not sort them properly which is a giant pain. And along the same line, shortly after uploading a bunch of files, I noticed that they sometimes don't get sorted properly right away (I had like 1000 photos initially sorted as taken "today" for a several minutes after backing up.)
BTW, how do you get to level 4 in Google guides? Is that free TB still offered nowadays? Edit: nevermind, looks like they offer nothing for level 4...
The extra storage was a "thank you for working for us free" from Google two years ago. I took photos of every store I visited.
Can i attach a USB drive to my Pixel 2 XL and add as a folder for uploading images and videos?
What exif data is Google looking at? In my drive there was a folder containing photos with structure year -> month
Thats not the way to go?
Supposedly you can attach a flash drive to a USB type C male to USB type A female adapter, but I never tried it. Incidentally the Pixel comes with one of these adapters!
With regards to EXIF, I'm just referring to the metadata that's attached to each photo (contains date/time taken, location taken, camera used, etc), not the file name. Pretty much all digital cameras and modern smartphones have the correct dates embedded. But some devices don't do it properly, and if you saved a photo someone texted you, they often have no metadata.
If there is no metadata, Google photos may just use the date the file was created rather than the actual day it was taken, regardless of if the file name itself lists the correct date. This becomes a problem sometimes when copying files as the creation date sometimes gets changed to the date it was copied

Yep. I had this problem.
I can confirm that the little adapter in the box works as USB2Go. Just plug an USB memory in and move files. But how to upload to Google Photos if its not charging? I dont have splitter for that USB C contact.
Is there a way to make a network folder as a "local" folder on Pixel 2 XL ? That would make the process a bit easier.

Note10+ move from Samsung Cloud to Onedrive -> server fault

All,
Today I received the firmware update for my Note10+ that contains the OneDrive integration. As I already have an Office365 subscription with 1Tb storage in OneDrive, I wanted to move there for backup. However, when I go through the Microsoft account linking part (enter Microsoft account, password, security code, password again), the app returns to the initial welcome screen with a message: server fault, please try again later.
Anyone else who has this error, or were you able to link the Samsung Cloud to Onedrive yet?
I have the exact same problem
i got the beta UI today and i was able to log in on first try. unlocked 10+ . already had onedrive. i use the microsoft authenticator and i had no issues .
Anyone with this problem fixed it yet? @Kruxarn, @marctronixx, any of you use 2 step verification on your Microsoft account?

Problem not solved.
Yes, i use two-step verification with my Microsoft Account.
I can try without two-step verification and report back.
Update:
it works without two-step verification.

Thanks for your feedback! I will try soon, as I have reported the issue with Samsung as well. I'll wait for their response before disabling/re-enabling the 2 factor auth.

Seriously, what a disaster... Here my journey with the Samsung Support team...
- I initially made a call explaining the problem. The support agent told me that the integration is not active yet. I explained that a specific extra firmware was released in the Netherlands, explicitly reporting this feature in the release notes, so it would really surprise me if it was not available. The support agent then told me that the tech person was unavailable, but that they would call me back, the same day.
- I never received the call back, so I logged a question via Samsung Members. I got a response on that, telling me I had to send a screenshot and a log file (after enabling high level debug logging) on help.content.samsung.com
- I made a screenshot, but the log that was mentioned in a standard log enable procedure was not present on my phone, so I sent them again a clear description of the error, with a screenshot of the error, and a screenshot of the logs that were present, together with the question which of the logs shown they would need.
- This request was immediately answered that the samsung tech dept was going to look into it.
- Then I received an answer on the support site, telling me I had sent an invalid log file, and attached was the same procedure which was incorrect. I then looked for the 'reply' button. But wait.... THAT IS NOT PRESENT! You can only pose one question on which you receive an answer, but a customer is not able to reply to the thread again. No case numbers, whatever, to reference the question.
- So I called the support desk again, referring to the question on the support site. The response of the agent: "Unfortunately we can't see that, can you explain your problem please?" I then told her that Samsung first promised to call me back, which they didn't, and I told them that my problem description with the question about which logs to be sent, was not read at all (trust me, I am a tech guy, I know all about problem descriptions and logs) and I received a default reply instead. The support agent responded, "but we are not allowed to call back". After a few more words, she told me, "please hold on", and I thought I was put on hold.
- BUT NO! The agent actually put me back in the queue, as she probably did not want to talk to me anymore! So I ended up with another support agent, who I had to explain the problem again from start. I was again told that the tech person was not available. I asked if he could call me back when he was, but again it was confirmed that Samsung support is not allowed to call customers... Like WTF... They can't call back people who bought their most expensive flagship phones?? The support agent then advised me to call the Account department. I asked if she could transfer me, but of course, she could not.
- So I called the Account department. I AGAIN eplained the problem, and the Account guy told me that that made sense, as the Onedrive service is not available in Europe yet. I again explained that Samsung explicitly released a separate additional firmware update with this feature in the release notes. He told me that he would email me some information and when I have received the information, I could call back and I would directly speak to the person who knew all about it.
- At this point I was so pissed by how this went, I disabled the two-step authentication on my Microsoft account, and I could indeed connect to Onedrive!!! The only problem now is that the Settings give an error when backed up.
- But I decided to give them one more call to see how they would respond. And I indeed got the person on the line who her colleague referred to earlier. She told me she had sent me an email telling me what log to send. When I asked her the time and date of that email, she mentioned a time which was half an hour before I even created the request. As I own the email server on which the email should be delivered, I could check the logs there, and no email was received at that moment. She did mention the name of the log file though. However, a log file I have, that mostly resembles what was requested, was in a Gear folder and contains mainly logging about the Gear services. At this moment I told her that the problem was fixed by temporarily disabling the two step verification on the Microsoft account, and I asked her if the service was indeed unavailable in Europe, as her colleague told me. She told me that the service should be available.
Conclusion:
On all ways of contacting Samsung, there is no way in responding on a reply, whether it is in Samsung Members, on the support site, or via email. One answer from Samsung should apparently be enough, and Samsung actually does not want to talk to customers (as one of the agents just transferred me away). The support staff tells me there is no way to get in direct touch with the tech staff. There are no procedures for complaints, they are not allowed to call back customers...
When you look at how Samsung exposes their support (via Samsung Members, Facebook Chat, phone, etc.) it looks as they go the extra mile for their customers, but when you actually talk to them, you end up in a non-flexible inefficient non-motivated support maze....Way to go, for flagship fans....
Ok... I'm a little more calm now...
My apologies for my rant....
please, who migrated samsung cloud to onedrive could confirm if the files appear on windows 10 PC in the default system folders or backups appear in another specific folder? I have Xbox shared with a friend and I don't want him seeing my cellphone stuff on his Xbox ... Can the vault be set up to save things on it?

I got OneDrive connected (I did not want to say 'working'), but I can't find any backup related items in the standard OneDrive folders, except that the Gallery sync can go there (but only from internal memory, not from SD card). The only thing I notice is that when going to the Samsung Cloud settings page, various links go to the OneDrive app instead of Samsung folders.

Exactly, my sync was not working, I removed everything and redo the sync and returned to normal, really only appears in windows the gallery photo folder, the other things that backs up (files) does not appear, anyway I stopped sharing My Microsoft account with a friend on Xbox, I didn't want him seeing my photos and videos on his console.
I disabled this option and just went back to old fashioned Onedrive with camera upload.
Since 2011 I have had all my photos automatically backed up to the Camera Roll folder but with Samsung integration it puts photos in Samsung Gallery folder and no option to change that I can see.
I want to continue with my photos in the same Camera Roll folder and not have them go somewhere else and have to manually move them.

Does it use an app folder or need full access to the entire OneDrive account?
OneDrive for Business
I have an Office 365 account which includes 1 TB of storage in OneDrive. When I try to enble "link Samsung Account with Microsoft account" within the Samsung cloud app, and enter my Microsoft username/email its says no such account exists. I had this problem using the OneDrive app on my Windows 10 desktop computer as well, but I solved that by deleting the OneDrive app that comes pre-installed on Windows 10 and installing the OneDrive for Business app. I could then sign in and backup to OneDrive on my desktop computer. Now on the phone, I have no problem signing into my account with the actual OneDrive app that came pre-installed on the Note 10+. That app lets me enter my Office 365 account username/email and on the OneDrive app, but not on this linking page for Samsung cloud. Any ideas on a workaround would be appreciated.

I finally managed to get the connection working. It turned out that you can only connect using Microsoft's own Authenticator app. Using auth codes from third party apps give problems.
However, I ran into another issue. It turns out that the gallery sync to OneDrive does not support files > 1Gb. I had some video's I recorded, and they did not get synced. Samsung's response was: upload them manually to the OneDrive folder and they show up in the Gallery. But come on...
Hi to all. I am trying to connect Samsung cloud with one drive on my Samsung Galaxy S10e. The problem is that I have enabled two factor authentication on my Microsoft account and when I am doing all the steps the app keeps asking me for my password after the verification and it cannot pass that page and i cannot connect . If i disable the two factor authentication on my Microsoft account the app works well, but when I re-enable the two factor authentication after the login the app keeps saying that there is a problem and it cannot sync. Any ideas?

Hi I found a solution that works!!!!
Download the Microsoft authentication app. Remove other 2FA app from your Microsoft account and keep only the Microsoft authentication app.
Do a reset on one drive app on your phone (delete data from this app) and the re connect one drive using Microsoft authentication app.
Then connect you phone to your computer and copy all of your photos from your computer to the dcim folder on your phone.
Then move or delete the photos and videos from the Samsung gallery folder on your computer. Don't let any other files inside there. Let the phone make the sync.
There is a problem though. Samsung cloud cannot sync files like *.mov. Then check which files aren't sync. You can convert the files with your phone later by editing them within the gallery app.
Sorry for my bad English.
Hope it helps
