Request: Paranoid Android For the LG G4 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With the advent of a bootloader unlock coming within the next few days for all LG G4's (thanks to steadfasterX ) I'm excited to finally resurrect my LG G4's ; one currently on Marshmallow just being awesome and one on Lollipop with the dreaded bootloop but stable with the 4 Core Disable. I'm excited to see what sort of development will happen from here on out but also know this is just the beginning for all those individuals who have been stuck with a locked bootloader. I was hoping to see Paranoid Android or a variant thereof available for the H815 to flash but it doesn't seem like it's available. I find Pi control invaluable over the standard stock navigation and while it's possible to use with LMT on Lollipop (which is what I currently do) I was hoping to see a rom with all or some of AOSPA's features. If it's possible this is being worked on or if I may ask that someone consider developing it I know me and a few others who have been waiting for the time to unlock our bootloaders would be greatly appreciated.
Here's a link to the last thread I found on the subject https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/paranoid-android-returns-t3395210

Hi new to LG G3

Need some help.
I se development of roms are a bit slow here when you are used to galaxy s4.
But still the LG firmware are very good i must say. I read that CM is on its way once the bootloder thing i fixed.
So now my question. Is there a stable recovery for the G3?
I am happy with the G3 it is a top notch phone i think and I hope development will explode.
Take care.
Only varient with stable recovery is tmobile...everyone is arne't as lucky due to the locked bootloader

What She said plus I don't mean to bust your bubble but the unlock bootloader thing. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. There is a way to get tethered TWRP recovery but it involves ADB side loading and things of a more advanced nature. For now I would recommend Xposed along with G3 tweakbox and Nova. It's a winning recipe.
Hope this helped.

[Q] Anyone with Xposed working on G4?

I'm about to buy the international version of LG G4. And wondering if anyone has had any success with installing Xposed with no issues.
Also would appreciate if anyone can please direct me for the most safe steps to root the G4
Thanks in advance :good:
i got bootloop with xposed.
there is good rooting guides if you look in g4 threads.
Sent from my unlocked and rooted LG-H815
Too bad :crying:
I'm kinda obsessed using xposed & GravityBox, extremely looking forward to get xposed work on LG G4
If anyone knows the trick, please keep us posted .. and I will .. :good:
From what I recall back when I was running GravityBox on my Nexus devices, it is only supported on Nexus and AOSP-based roms. Pretty sure even if we get Xposed working on the G4, you won't be able to use GravityBox on the stock LG ROM.

Not sure if it would matter as far as this case goes, but I was able to run GravityBox on my Galaxy Note Edge (which was on a modified stock TW rom, so no AOSP-Base), Not sure why it would run on TW and not UX.....but then again, who knows....I guess the whole point is moot if we can not find a way to even get Xposed running in the first place.

Thanks for your reply. I was reading almost all threads about rooting the G4, however, haven't yet found anything about rooting version H818. Please let me know if you have any idea about a successful rooting method for H818.
Thanks in advance ,, :good:

As you know, you must unlock your boot loader before you can root your G4. Mine is the international or EU model H815 unlocked and rooted back in May. Take heart. It is easy. Key points are: a visit to the LG support site. Then can make your way to the Developer section and register to receive the bootloader unlock code. LG will try three times to dissuade you but will in the end email you the code. Once done the process is "irreversible" and will always show bootloader ulocked (on the boot screen). LG say they have listened to customers (a dig at Sammy and the i-sheep) and have started to roll out the unlock code globally. Yours may be listed already, if not it soon will be. It's been a month now so register / monitor the site. Once you unlock, you'll find step by step method of rooting your G4 here on xda. I posted one myself but thread was closed as there is one there already. Your next query will probably be a lean deodexed ROM or to install Xposed. Sadly, no news on either of those for the G4. Hopefully a bright spark will crack those soon.

That's not accurate, you don't need to unlock the bootloader to root the device. There is root available for most variants in the dev section and none of them save the 815EU and H811 (TMo) variant have an unlocked bootloader available. The H815 you have to get unlocked via the LG support site as you mentioned and the H811 is unlocked by default from TMo.

On the G3 we had a module called G3 Tweaksbox which did a lot of the same things as GravityBox, and more, specifically designed for the G3. We can hope the same happens with the G4!
Long live XPOSED and G3 (G4) Tweaksbox!

Android 6.0 Marshmallow: Will E986 get it?

So I was wondering if my phone is "young" enough to get the marshmallow update and after a lot of googling I could not get a clear answer...
I own the LG Optimus G Pro E986 and it is almost 2 years and 9 months since the manufacture date and its current OS is Jellybean...
I searched on some sites and found out that LG will allow the marshmallow update on LG G phones first, if I remember correctly, but is LG still updating Optimus G Pro phones? Is there still a way I can get marshmallow? Also do you know any good ROM (marshmallow or lollipop) for the device?
Thanks
Don't expect anything from LG, especially not for EU and Open variants.
Some variants got their KitKat update in 2014, Korean variants (F240 models) got their Lollipop (5.0.2) update last year and that's pretty much it. LG doesn't plan and won't push any further updates for this device, especially it is now more than 3 years old. Hell, they gave up on E98x variants after a year My E988 got an initial 4.1.2 patch first day I got it, and no updates till April of 2014 (KitKat 4.4.2) and... Silence after that, so yeah, not even a full year of updates and support.
Your best chance to get some sweet Lollipop is to flash some of custom ROMs available - you can choose between stock based and AOSP based. I was maintaining SlimLP till recently it became obvious there will be no more updates to their Lollipop repos, and now I'm using custom CM builds. Marshmallow is a dead-end, simply too much stuff for this device is broken/obsolete/non-existent, and it has almost 0% dev interest because of that, locked bootloaders and LG's 30-variants-for-one-model idiotic policy.
So, if you want to keep your device 100% working, keep it on 4.1.2 or try to find a KitKat KDZ for your variant (I had to flash mine manually, LG's OTA didn't even offer KK update, and I didn't even knew there was a KK update before LG's PC suite prompted it). If you don't mind occasional bugs, glitches and crashes, move to custom ROMs (keep your jellybean as base, root it, if not rooted already, "unlock" with Freegee, flash TWRP).
Thats true... As a device its awesome and I am really satisfied by its performance but LG suddenly "forgot" it, like it never existed. I have installed cm12.1 nightly on my E986 but yeah there are some issues (black screens etc.)... so I will test it for some time and I will think if I switch to stock ( which worked smoothly and no problems) or not.
My last hope is BlurOS project which was started by a team in Vietnam's XDA and they are about to create Murshmallow ROM for LG GPro series too.
So whoever is interested please vote for it here (after you become member of the group)-> https://m.facebook.com/questions.ph...o-bluros-support-lg-t3372926&refid=9&_rdr#_=_
Also check the XDA thread about BlurOs ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-pro/general/please-register-to-bluros-support-lg-t3372926
Try running CM 12.1 with Wild kernel (blackouts are fixed, not sure about flickering, haven't used that one in long time), or if someone else made a CM-compatible flashable zip of kernel I've used for Slim (I've fixed all display issues - no blackouts, no flashing, no glitches.. zombigrn made flashables of older kernels for BlissPop, not sure if they'll work on CM).
I saw that thread but I'm taking that with a reserve. I managed to get some Marshmallow ROMs to boot, but RIL, sensors, camera, NFC.. god knows what else... all broken. Not a job for one guy who just knows his way around and isn't a pro. I'll keep this phone as long as possible, and if someone with enough knowledge to fix those issues emerges, well, more ROMs on our way. But from current state of things... This device simply got it's EOL really, really quick. Too bad, it's still pretty good phone, but either way I'm looking towards an update - something cheap, unlocked and with good AOSP-based ROM support.

VK810 - Marshmallow

I understand the OTA has been out for some time now -- but is it still the case that the flashable files have not been released? A .tot would be really nice right about now.
If stock LG Marshmallow has come out for the VK810, I wasn't aware of it. When I had checked a week or two ago via the official tools, 36B Lollipop 5.0.2 was what it was downloading.
I sure wish Marshmallow or 5.1.1 would come out for it. If it has come out, I'll jump on that ASAP.
We do have a 22B TOT thanks to another user, I have in the same place as the KDZs in my signature below.
If anything new would come out, it'd most likely become available as a KDZ. If/when I'd have time, I'd make a flashable zip.
Edit: I just checked with the official tool and still the latest KDZ it wants to download is 36B. I'm on 24A KitKat right now (very debloated) since it works so much better than Lollipop 5.0.1. The temptation isn't enough for me to restore 36B stock to see if there's an OTA from 36B to Marshmallow. The VK815 LG G Pad X8.3 has Marshmallow, as do all the newer LG tablets, but I don't think the VK810 does. If you have any information I haven't seen, or a link to a KDZ, please let me know. @invisiblek has made CM13 for the VK810. I have a thread for it in the General section, since I don't intend on supporting it and I don't think Invisiblek is prepared to either until/if he gets more bugs ironed out. I can't use it as a daily driver, as much as I'd like to, though.
Thanks for the info -- annoying that its been abandoned.

You're welcome!
I agree. Also annoying that it doesn't have LG Backup like all other LG devices have since after the 8.3 came out, although the VK810 source code has code for LG Backup.
Another user on here got rid of his two VK810s and bought two VK815s, partially so he could have LG Backup.
I got mine for free as part of a deal, there's always a reason they give away certain tech...
Yep, and tablets in general, especially the ones not super primo, are often neglected. After all, my VS985 G3 was free within weeks of when I got mine, at the same time as the tablet, and it's gotten three builds of stock LG Marshmallow, albeit the VK810 is at least 4-6 months older than the VS985.

US Cellular MM root projects?

I realize that the USC version really isn't in anyone's Todo list, but was wondering if anyone has been making any effort to find a workaround for either an unofficial bootloader unlock or prerooted system image that would work in the us991 variant? Best outcome would be an unlock allowing TWRP and custom ROM use, or at least root and Xposed usage on the stock MM. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I surely hope so..I love my g4. I brought it over to TMO, and have no issues other than having to buy a new battery as original was falling after almost 4 years of service. I've honestly not feeling the need for a new phone, it's fast has decent storage, a gorgeous screen and the design makes it easy to hold even with it's screen size. My only worry is I've been following his posts and they are all focused on the other unlockable versions with nary a mention of my poor us991 lol
