Official Glass Screen Protecter - Manchester UK - Help? - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Dear fellow 5T owners. I have had a bit of a saga with getting a glass screen protector fitted. I've been to three o2 stores in the UK that sell the phone and the official oneplus screen protector and at three stores they have stuffed up the screen protectors either with dust/bubbles/hair and i've spent hours trying to find a store that can actually fit one right. Anyone have any advice on anyone in the area who can _actually_ do it without ruining it?

Just curious, how much are these places charging/are you spending each time?
This isn't a reply that will answer your question as such, but I've had a bit of a saga with screen protection generally. I've finally (possibly) settled with am Invisible Shield high quality plastic film screen protector, as I just wasn't happy with glass ones. For me, yes they sound good in theory and look nice, but the highly reflective surface and loss of the beauty of the AMOLED screen put me off them. Not to mention the rainbow effect I had.
So my reason to respond really was just to throw it out there, have you considered a non glass protector? As I applied mine myself (a wet installation) in my bathroom full of steam from the hot shower and it's applied perfectly. It is even compatible with my case, though this was a cheaper case comparable to the Spigen Rugged Armour case, but unfortunately with that one it started to lift up at the edges a bit.
I am SO tempted just to go 'naked' though though I do like having this extra protection. My previous phone was the Galaxy S8 which only had 1 small light scratch from my cat walking on it, other than that I treat it well and I didn't feel the need for a screen protector.
Apologies again for not actually assisting with your question, though wanted to discuss the topic at the very least...

New Screen protectors?

Anyone else waiting for a viable alternative than the current screen protector available?
Flex HD and Zagg look good, but they have many drawbacks, and the adhesive protectors do not offer any full screen protection. I am aware that it is due to the curved nature of the gorilla glass but surely someone would be able to make an adhesive protector which simply curves around the edges? (the edges would be uniform on all S3's so I do not see a problem there)
Does anyone have news of any upcoming screen protectors?
I assume there is nothing to come then

wet apply screen protectors that cover the screen are going to be a soft material and hence more grippy and rubbery.
dry apply ones which are hard will only be able to cover the whole screen if they where made curved out of the factory to custom fit the S3. the cost for tooling and manufacture and for packaging will prob put off manufacturers making them. plus if they aren't the right curve or angle then it won't fit properly. so theoretically it is possible, but due to the complexity i doubt they will be produced.
forgive me if i am wrong but i think current screen protectors all come off one line when being made, then just cut to the specific shape for each phone. but if you were to make a custom curved one, then a whole production line would just be making those ones making it much more expensive.
I bought one from ebay...
XtremeGuard Screen Protector/Shield - Galaxy s3
I am not happy with the quality. I have ordered from them in the past and have had no issues. Now the material seems a lot thinner and my tpu case keeps pushing up the sides...So stay away if you are using a TPU case
I kind of asked similar question, but for now, there is none except for wet screen protector. If you are looking for a dry screen protector, SGP Ultra Nano Clear might be the best one. I saw this review, and it looks almost invisible because it's thin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741650
Had a Chat with Spigen, turns out they are in fact developing a new screen protector but as they are in talks with their manufacturer they cant give any solid details. Here is the Message they sent me:
"Dear XXXXX,
Thank you for contacting Spigen.com Customer Service Department.
Hi, my name is Diana from Spigen.com.
Thank you for your interest in our products! We are currently developing a new screen protector for the Galaxy S3, unfortunately, because nothing has been confirmed with the manufacturers at the moment, there is not much information we can provide as to what kind of screen protector it may be. However, please continue to check our website, facebook, and twitter pages for updates on all of our products from time to time.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Looks like we will get some good news soon, if we stay patient that is
Looks like we got our answer! http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...creen-protector-steinheil-curved-crystal.html
Old thread lol but ill bump it up. I have the Xtremeguard from ebay ($2 shipped) and its pretty good, lot better that the zagg ive had in the past, and alot cheaper lol. Almost no orange peel look (very minimal). It is indeed kinda grippy at first but after usage it smooth outs enough. Feels good now, still slight grippy effect but smooth while texting or whatnot
How about one that offers more than scratch protection. How about one that can keep the screen from shattering when dropped on gravel from five feet face down!

[Q] Moto X Screen Protectors ?

Hello Folks,
I know there are loads of screen protector threads out there but none of them are recent for the MotoX.
I have had an XtremeGuard Protector on my X for a few months, but the gummyness, orange peel and lack of screen sensitivity is killing me.
What are some good current options that are $15 or under ?
Thanks,
Pete
I'm currently using the SUPCASE Screen protector that came with my case: has everything I need to get it on once and only once(even comes with a lint remover film). Looks and feel great. I don't know what you mean by 'gummyness though, the only screen protector I would describe that has a gummy-like feel(especially when I pinch with my fingernail is the Skinomi brands.

I am using this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EVWX5VO/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and like it. If you get it - start applying from the bottom of the phone (near USB connector) because the cutout for microphone is small and more precision is required there than on top.
Thank you for the suggestions folks
What about the glass ones i hear people talking about, what are there advantages ?

I'll second these. I had the ArmorSuit and it was terrible. These are cheap, durable and don't negatively affect the screen.I've been using one for over 2 months and it still looks fine.
The screen protectors from Motorola are very good.

I bought a couple of the Mimeusa.com glass screen protectors, one for my wife and another for myself. Installed mine first, its a little different installing such a stiff protector, luckily i was able to lift it back up easily a couple times to adjust the positioning.
The wifes I installed a couple hours after, and it felt like it gave me more problems. didn't want to get positioned right, but eventually I got it lined up well.
The next day it fell off in her car while she was driving and got covered in dirt and dust on the adhesive side.
Mine is still on, after 2 weeks of use;
The texture is awesome! i hate most screen protectors, but this is glass and feels so good to the touch. you hardly notice its there.
It hasn't taken and scratches, and it does feel like fingerprints are less noticeable than on the bare screen.
I don't have a case of my X yet, ordered a bumper from amazon, but its not here yet.
I feel that the protector gathers small fibers easily at the edge. there are a couple of very small fibers that have worked there way just under the edge of the glass. They are hardly noticeable, especially when the screen is on.
I have not seen any new accumulation since the first few days, so maybe its more prone to catching the fibers in the hours / day after installation. I would advise avoiding pockets for 24 hours after installing this product if you can.
I will probably use this screen protector until it chips/breaks/gets too scratched up, and then go naked screen for the rest of the phones life.
If you are intending to spend $15 for a screen protector, might as well get a tempered glass one. I'm using this one: http://www.amazon.com/i-Blason-Motorola-Ultra-Thin-Tempered-Protector/dp/B00E0CUP18/
If you installed it correctly the first time, it should stay stuck and without any bubbles.

For those who have the glass protectors, do u feel they are worth the extra money compared to a good clear protector like the halo ? Do they cause interference with cases ?
What do u mean expansible sumonmolla ?

I would just like to throw out my support for Liquid Armor. I use it on all of my touchscreen devices, and have never had a scratch on a screen since, and it feels just like glass, without anything on it. The best part is that the one bottle can be used for several screens. Though if you don't use it in a couple months, the stuff will harden in the nozzle of the bottle, making it more difficult to use.
Edit: figured Id throw in a link. http://www.amazon.com/Dynaflo-LIQUID-ARMOR-Universal-Microfiber-DYN-LA100SP/dp/B007EZ3EM0

+1 on this stuff. Been using it on my last 5 phones in the family. Especially great since the wife and I usually are yearly on replacement devices

Disclaimer: I posted this in a couple other threads, but I wanted to try and post it where I know we've been discussing tempered glass screen protectors.
Here's some pictures of the redesigned i-Blason protector. As you can see, there is now a cutout for the proximity sensor. The corners also fit the Moto X perfectly (their old design fit perfectly too). Very happy I finally have a protector that FITS and where the proximity sensor won't be blocked! I liked the i-Blason until I had started having proximity sensor issues because I had dropped it several times, and it never once cracked, unlike the MIME, which cracked the very first time I dropped it.

i have tempered glass on my moto X ( mimeusa.com/product/moto-x-ghost-glass-screen-protector/ ) since january.
it was very easy to install and the feel is wonderful. my only complaint is that when you drop your phone, it can crack. better a crack on the protector than a scratch on the device, right? my phone has been pretty suicidal lately, what w/ jumping off tables, so it has accumulated many cracks on the protector. i am replacing it (with same ghost glass) and also buying a bumper case ... that may make a difference in the life span of the protector.
this is my first glass protector and yes i like it. on previous devices i used zagg screen protectors and was VERY HAPPY with them, but when i ordered their protector for the moto X, i found that they must have screwed up on the device specs, as the film didn't even cover the entire viewing screen. UNACCEPTABLE! i will not go back to their products.
I had the MIMEUSA and was very happy with the feel of the MIMEUSA, but it didn't fit properly. The corners were too squared and extended over the screen. The edges were also suppose to be beveled to prevent chipping but mine seemed like they were beveled out, leaving a lip on the glass. This all led to the edges chipping and eventually a larger break.
I ordered the i-Blason to try it and am very happy. The fit is perfect, its quite a bit thinner than the MIMEUSA, and it feels just as slick and smooth as the MIMEUSA and the glass screen. I would recommend the i-Blason over the MIMEUSA. And the i-Blason is only $17 on Amazon making it about the same price as the high quality plastic protectors.

Screen protectors

Hi Everyone,
Long time off the forum as I haven't had a phone that has warranted any use of this wonderful site.
Picked up a Moto G yesterday and I was wondering what people experiences with and without screen protectors for this device have been. Last "proper" phone was a Galaxy S2 and in the two year it survived it picked up a couple of small scratches, only one of which was visible enough to annoy me and it was dropped a lot, screen down.
My question to you all is that do I really need a screen protector is is this modern Gorilla Glass good enough to warrant not bothering.
Thanks!
(Sorry admin if this should be in Q&A but it feels more pertinent to this forum)

I havent used a screen protector for a while now, feels better and i haven't had a single scratch.
with the gg3, i can't see a reason to use a screen protector. until now, I don`t have any scratches too
I am using matte protectors. I feel more comfortable having one of them on my moto g
i've used a matte protector but the screen looked bad and i took it off.No need for screen protector, only sand can scratch it.
My Moto G fell down one time and now i have like a 3 mm scratch in the display, since then i used this kind of protector http://www.ebay.de/itm/Motorola-MOT...y_PDA_Displayschutzfolien&hash=item3f30f9ff7c and it works best for me
Well, I managed to scratch up my screen within three months of purchase. So I use a tempered glass screen protector and it works pretty well for me except for a crack, the result of it falling screen first twice in five seconds. ?
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
While the Moto G has great protection from scratches thanks to Gorilla Glass 3, you'll eventually get scratches if you are in an environment where there is sand. Sand will definitely scratch your display, so if you get some sand in your pocket and whatnot there is a high possibility of scratches. I purchased anti-glare screen proctors as I use my phone a lot outdoors and it works great.
Gorrila Glass is still glass and has the risk of damage, either scratches or worse. So its a matter of reducing risk, not a matter of 'do I need it or not'. Perhaps the risk depends on your use and habits, but its always there.
Me personally, it always seems logical to use one. If it can save me from a expensive repair, a ugly scratch or a decreased value in case I want to sell it... why not? I never experienced loss of touch screen functionality.. Especially the tempered glass ones are nice.
Look up nanocoating spray on ebay. This is whats inside the phone but they have a liquid developed for screens that supposedly makes the screen 5 times harder and scratch resistant and water repellant. Molecoat on ebay looks good and they have a video on youtube (thats what sold me) chinese auction but you can get it for $10, thinking about trying it. I always had a screen protector on my phones but hate how it takes away from the sharpness and color from the screen with the "hd clear' ones.
I only use tempered glass protectors. I've abandoned film altogether. There's just no substitute for glass.

Scratched OP3

Hi
While I was waiting for my tempered glass to come, I ended up with a scratched phone. The weird thing is that I was very protective with it, but who knows what went wrong. Anyhow, the scratch is pretty small and on the top left but it is deep enough in order to be seen from a bright wallpaper. Do you have any idea how to hide it as much as possible or any anything else? (Google is a mixed bag of opinions)
Thanks
PS. The tempered glass has yet to arrive. :crying:
PS2. It is pretty damn expensive to change the screen
I ordered a origibnal OP tempered glass protector with my OP3. The quality was pretty crappy as it splitted at the side after 3(!) weeeks. I googled a lot and it seeemed that nillkin.org sells the best screen protectors. I ordered 2 and after a month they arrived from the other end of the world. DON'T BUY that crappy protectors from nillkin.org as they don't fit the screen at all! I'm very upset and they regeret to give me my money back. Nillkin.org betrayed me for nearly 30 bucks!!!
I'm using the phone without screen protector for about a week now and the feeling is just awesome. I don't care about some scratches as for the first time I can see and use the full display size.
I used my HTC One S without protection for about 3 years and it only got 1 noticeable scratch. OP3 got a 2,5D display and infact all screen protectots will be crap. Its sad but its true.
Sand I find is the most common pocket content that's hard enough to scratch gorilla glass things. (most keys and coins won't)

Tempered glass screen protector

As we all know, nowdays glass screen protector is probably best way to go.
OP will sell their official protector as they did for OP5 (already on the site). In this case you would expect top quality accesories and we all know how it went with 5.
For me it was no go with protector for ~20 euro that cuts off ~1mm on each screen side.
Here is my question, how it will go this time? how do you think? Maybe someone can provide some insight from their own sources?
As for now, from what i managed to find: it will cut less screen or even nothing (hope).
Later on, please also post your alternatives from 3rd party.
I actually think they might have an easier time with them, they can just produce a protector that covers the whole front of the phone now (No home button/FP Reader) which should reduce any stress fracture areas and make it easier to produce. Due to the change it might be some time before we see an official one.
Judging by the collection of crappy protectors produced for the OP5, hopefully the 5T won't have protectors that only adhere round the edges.
Honestly, I've been quite disappointed by the OP own's glass screen protectors.
After trying a few of the aftermarket ones (Ozry and co.), with varying mileage, I finally went nake.
Still curious to see how that's going to work on 5T.
W!
I dont need the curve screen. Give me the flat one Oneplus! Tempere glass on OP5 is a nightmare.

Same here. I still have to find a TGSP that doesn't have the rainbow effect and that covert the whole front of my OP5.
Have tried multiple ones from eBay and all of them have the stubborn rainbow in the center of the screen.
I officially hate those curved displays.
When I remember my first OPO, and than my OP2... ah, nostalgia.
I honestly love my oneplus branded tempered glass on my OP3 and OP5. The "it blocks pixels" thing is WAY overblown. Yes, you'll lose 1-2 rows of pixels, but it doesn't affect useability at all. They cover the whole screen, use adhesive on the entire protector, no halo effect, and if you use a oneplus branded case, the seam between the protector and case is so tight you can't even tell the phone is in a case.
10/10 would recommend to anyone without hesitation. I've tried a lot of the aftermarket stuff and it's all trash.
I have ordered the op5t glass however I'm sticking to the plastic protection that comes with device

Our friend here got it before me. Good to know tho, look 4:03. Mine is at home aleady, after weekend I will write mine opinion.
Anyone have experience with these people and what they offer :
https://www.moutfitters.com/
This morning, I applied my OnePlus branded tempered glass screen protector. I really like it, although there is one spot next to the volume rocker that will not stick down, causing a small halo effect in that spot. I can only see it when the screen is off, so I'm not going to worry about it. This screen protector feels very nice, especially compared to the plastic one that comes on the phone. I recommend that anyone looking for a quality screen protector, buy the one from OnePlus.
I bought the op glass screen protector and the sandstone case when I ordered the 5t. I will keep the factory applied screen protector as long as possible, but its nice to have a back-up. I do think it is cool that the supplied case acts as a guide for installing the op glass preotector.
I too bought the sandstone case/tempered glass protector combo and must say the fit and finish is superb. The screen protector went on perfect thanks to the supplied case acting as a guide and it is 100% bubble free. With the screen protector in place the sandstone case mates perfectly and you can tell they were designed to be used in conjunction with each other. The case looks good and gives the phone a nice grip but I highly doubt it offers any thing besides scratch protection. I will be switching to a more protective case as soon as a good one is available.
From my Google Pixel and Oneplus 3 experience, the official case and screen protector was the best. It's a little bit high on price but it will protect your device longer lasting and like the charm. So, this time for my upcoming OnePlus 5T, I'm going to buy 3D tempered glass screen protector.
