Is Semi-Adopted Storage Possible on HTC Desire 530? (on MM HTC in general) - HTC Desire 530 Questions & Answers

Hello.
After a few days worth of trying different apps, sending the same commands over and over, and reading everything I can find... I am still left with "Corrupt SD Card" when I try to have Semi-Adopted Storage. I have an HTC Desire 530 running Marshmallow stock ROM with root.
I have tried the method of partitioning using sm command through ADB, which will allow for functional internal, external, but mixed 50 will result in "Corrupt SD Card"
I have tried formatting the card with various Linux partition tools... But I can't figure out how to get Link2SD to mount the card.
I don't what I am missing, I am at a loss.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Phone keeps booting into fastboot

Hey guys.
I've been trying all night to partition 4GB SD card on my HTC Desire and got a problem. I'm getting stuck in fastboot, every time i want to reboot my phone, as I did normally before, i can not, because it boots directly into fastboot. I partitioned with Rom Manager, but have read all around that it does partition the sd card only to ext2, and you need to update to ext3 manually but I didn't know how, even if I read a lot of different tutorials. I can't even get into my froyo and mount my SD card to the pc
Now, can somebody help me get out of this mess?
Any help would be appreciated. Thx.
EDIT:
After reading many more posts lately, I've found out that partitioning went well and that showing 3.2 GB of free space on the SD card was right... Sounds very noobish though.
But, still can't get my mobile phone working, can't even put a new ROM on the SD card and flash it, because can't even mount the SD card on the pc :/

[Q] New SD Card causing rooted Desire to hang. Can't partition it either.

Hi
I'm having issues with sticking a new SD card in my Rooted Desire. I am running the NeoPhyTe Mod v1.8 Sense-FroYo 2.2 ROM, and it seems great (before I was running Pays Desire Rom which had the same problem).
My old 4gb card was partitioned with 512mb for Apps to SD (I can't even remember how I did this now, but I seem to recall it being really easy), and worked flawlessly. The new card can be seen in Windows 7 when I go into recovery on the phone and select mount USB Storage, and I seem to be able to get into it to format the card, but when I reboot, the phone hangs at the HTC screen. There is nothing on the card apart from the ROM I installed.
I've tried partitioning it in Recovery with ADB/Clockwork, but Parted will not load/work. I've tried...well, everything I could find over the last 4 hours to try to sort this out. It should be a simple task, surely!?
All I'm trying to do is put in a new 16gb card, partition it for Apps2SD and reinstall my backed up apps. I have been trying to do this since 9am (it is now 12.50pm), and my head is well and truly done in. Can anyone help? Please? I am at my wits end!
logcat is log
If you hang on the HTC Splash screen, a good place to start is always
Code:
adb logcat
Do this simple job..put da 16gb mem crd in card reader and connect with pc...partition it using paragon parititon manager or easeus partition manager...now freshly install a rom on this card..i m sure it will work flawlessly...n offcourse you can restore ur apps by transferring da backup to new card and restoring frm backups using backup manager or any backup software...

[Q] SD Card won't mount

Hey guys.
I have a HTC Desire and first started using Defrost and now i am using gingervillain.
After 2 days of searching the net for a solution, i'm >almost< giving up.
While trying to add a partition to my SD card (the ext3 one) somehow, the phone stopped mounting the card. I did this since the memory was running low and was told this was the way to go.
After searching this forum and googling, I've stumbled upon this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
Problem is i'm not able to get sdcard access. the command 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' does NOT give me sdcard access.
The sd card is fine, i can read it in a card reader @ work.
I'm using latest Gingervillain (3.1).
Can anyone help please? i dont care about the contents of the card. Just want to get the phone back working with it again (still works but with no card...)
Thanks in advance,
Nuno
Did you try formatting the whole card to FAT32 then starting again?
Hey! Thanks for your response.
Yeah. tried it severall times using the card reader @ work.
After so many hours i decided to risk it and installed an RUU. The HTC install fixed the sd card that it labeled has corrupt. It's good now.
Now i'm rooting it again following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
fingers crossed.
Thanks for your reply.
This thread can be closed..... hopefully!

[Q] Cannot mount SD Card - Many methods tried

Hello!
I have been a long time lurker and have been tweaking my phone for years.
Usually when I stuff something up, I can fix it.
That is not the case this time ;_;
This phone has been working fine for over 2 years without a reflash or anything done to it.
The battery died one Friday and the phone was not charged for 3 days.
It did not boot. HBOOT and Recovery were fine, but could not mount /sdcard in recovery
I ended up installing an RUU (Telstra_WWE_2.26.841.2). Cannot install other RUUs as sd card (Goldcard) cannot be read.
Android runs without recognising the SD card.
Recovery still does not recognise the SD card
Have tried:
- fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 (success, but did not fix problem)
- fastboot oem clearconfig
- S-Off and flashed different recoveries via Fastboot.
- 4Ext Recovery - USB Unbrick is ineffectual
- 4Ext Recovery - Partition sdcard correctly tells me the size of the sdcard, but then returns "Cannot read partition table"
- Two different SD Cards tried to no avail
This really sucks. I didn't even get to break my phone by myself.
Phone current status:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
RADIO-5.11.05.14
No suggestions?
- Strange, you ran the RUU from sd card though, so it must have mounted and read it? Are the two sdcards same brand? Do they work ok in another phone?
4EXT recovery is the best solution for this, surprised it doesn't work.
- USB unbrick doens't work at all?
- Can't partition either card? Have you tried completely reformatting first?
- Can't install any ROM.zip from sdcard?
If it still doesn't work, I'd try reformat and repartition using gparted, then full wipe and resintall ROM from scratch.

I ran the RUU from my computer because the SD card was out of action.
The two SD cards are different brands. Would that affect it a lot? They both work in card readers, card adapters, other computers, and other Android devices.

USB Unbrick does its little thing, then asks me to reboot recovery now. After reboot, I still get the "Error mounting your sdcard.." while 4ext is booting. 4ext then boots into safe mode.
I have completely reformatted and partitioned one of the cards in GParted running off a bootable USB stick, and that still didn't work.
Can't install anything from SD card ;_;

Without an SD card, is installing a ROM possible?
Playing with all the settings in 4ext at the moment. I'll keep y'all posted.
When I click partition sdcard, it says "There is 9xxxxxxxx MB of space on your sd-card", which is why I don't think it is a hardware error.
I then clicked file system check, and then Repair Filesystem.
Partition sd-card now says there are 0MB of space on my sd-card. lol.
what is this i dont even
-------------------------------
Rebooted, partition sdcard reads the 9xxxx MB of space on the card, so no problems there.
Trying to repartition it gives this error "Error re reading partition table. Please reboot recovery and start over."
Last bump.
I can't figure this one out to be honest. I really thought a complete reformat in gparted would work. Are you trying this using a card reader i.e. partitioning while not in the phone?
I'm beginning to think that the phone has a hardware issue reading the actual sd card, because both cards work in other phones and are read by computers / card readers just fine.
Last resort, if you can't run the RUU from the computer.
- Reformat sdcard to FAT32 only
- Extract the 2.3.3 GB RUU from the ROM.zip, follow Step 7 of Bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied at the top of Q&A, to run the RUU from sd.

The complete reformat and partition was done with the micro SD in an SD adapter in a USB card reader plugged into a computer. I couldn't do it from the phone as the phone cannot read the darn thing.

The only problem with the phone having a hardware issue is that 4ext recovery "sees" the card and tells me that I have 8 GB of space on it. However, 4ext cannot do anything to the card.

I don't think this will work because the phone cannot see the SD card. Even converting a card to a goldcard and trying to install an RUU does not work.
This is quite saddening ;_;

Click to collapse
But if 2 different sdcards work in card readers and mount in other Android devices, then logic says it could be a hardware issue with the Desire.
Just because 4EXT sees it, the fact that it can't mount it or do anything with it further reinforces this theory.

You need to try it though
2.3.3 GB RUU does not require a goldcard as far as I know. If you made a goldcard, that process may have gone wrong somewhere not sure.
Which is why a complete reformat, a single clean FAT32 partition needs to be tried.
Try Step 7, see if the phone can read the PB99IMG.zip when started up in bootloader

[Q] ViperOne on HTC One M8 - cannot use external SD Card :(

Hi there,
I have a question, which I've not been able to figure out. Maybe someone here is able to help me.
I am using ViperOne (v 6.1.0) on my HTC One M8. For a long time I have used a 64GB Micro SD card (SanDisk Extreme U3) as external storage. However, I am now finding that my internal 16GB of storage just isn't quite enough. I thought I had two options:
1) Create a second partition on the SD Card, and use that, along with an app such as Link2SD, or Apps2SD, to allow me to create symbolic links, and shift some of my installed apps onto the SD card. Or
2) "Adopt" the entire SD Card as internal storage.
Whenever I tried doing option 2--adopting the SD Card as internal storage--once the reformatting of the card completed, my phone would reboot itself (maybe there was a "kernel panic" type error, which caused the reboot??), and then it would get stuck in a continual reboot cycle. The phone would reboot, and then Android would report it was initialising X of Y apps... and when that had completed, it would reboot itself, and attempt to re-initialise all the apps...
I tried option 1) above--creating a second partition. This was generally OK, except that the second partition did not seem to get mounted when the phone was rebooted. This meant that apps which had been linked to the SD card would no longer work. Link2SD would offer to do a "quick reboot" (which, maybe is just a restart of the Android shell??), and after that, things seemed to be OK.
I wonder whether it is possible to create a script that is executed on *every* reboot, which will correctly mount the second partition. My basic Linux knowledge would suggest that a script in /etc/init.d should do the trick... except I don't think init.d is used/supported in ViperOne.
So... does anyone know a way to get things going for me?
Many thanks for your time,
Jon
