Available internal storage on SM-G532M - Samsung Galaxy J2 Questions & Answers

Good evening
My aunt has a Galaxy J2 Prime SM-G532M. This phone has 8 GB of internal storage. Here I show a few screenshots with the phone status.

Unfortunately, the phone barely has free space, the strangest thing is that the available space even after deleting all the deletable apps, deleting cache, and running the DELETE DUMPSTATE/LOGCAT thing, is a bit less of 1 GB. Here I show some screenshots of how the space has been used, note that currently there are only 23,3 MB of free space
I even tried a hard reset, thinking that it would delete some unwanted and hidden files, but it didn't help.
Is there any problem with this phone? or does it really have so little available internal space? I know that this phone has an SD card inserted, but this little space available doesn't even allow to update the apps.
Thanks

Yes, this phone has very little space available, the OS takes more than half of those 8 GB this phone claims to have.
You can set up the SD as adoptable storage via rooting (with an app called Rooting Essentials) and it does help a little bit, but don't expect it to help you install too many apps because not all apps can be moved to adoptable storage.

I spent more than 2 days to root this phone (g532F nothing different), well I would say it is almost impossible. Since now I've learned that latest official OS can't be rooted, it requires samsung tools pro at least V27.4 which is impossible to find the functional one (you know what I mean).. I tried everything else it either get in bootloop or freeze anyway. Well I used couple of android devices with root but this one made me really pissed off.
All we need to do is rooting the device and making available adoptable storage, that's all. But it is not that easy.. For this phone really I would say go to hell samsung..

[Q] Internal memory full

Hello everyone.
I'm running Oxygen 2.0.1 with A2SD enabled.
My internal memeory seems to be almost completely full though i have nothing installed in it.
I cleared the cache a look through almost all my apps, but i really can't figure out why i have no space left.
Usually i have more than 100MB free space even with many more applications installed, so something must be using all my internal mem.
Do i have to clean my internal memory each time i flash a new ROM or something like that?
When you flash a new rom you do a factory reset and clear dalvik cache. As for your memory being almost full, depending on how the a2sd script works and what it puts onto the SD card, data can still install to internal memory. Like the dalvik cache. If you can, use a file manager to see what is using memory.
Sent from CM7
could you please tell me how i use a file manager to check what's using my memory?

Use root explorer. It will show the space available on each nand partition.

Okay thank you all guys.
I bought root explorer and look around a bit, and ofcause i came across the dalvik-cache.
The Dalvik-cache is nothing less than 85mb, which is pretty huge right?
is there any way i can shrink the case/is it possible that the cache contains information from my old rom, which does nothing else than using the space?
You could wipe it through recovery then reboot and see what it looks like then..

Yea thank you.
That's probably what i'm gonna do

I have a problem similar to this, but I had installed Intercepter-NG, and forgot to tell the program to use my SD card, and it filled up the internal memory with logs.
Now I can't get to the logs, because I have lost my USB cable.
Is there a free program for the Galaxy Y S5360 that will let me look in Internal Memory and delete the logs??

You don't need your usb cable to browse your own phone
There are many free programs, search the play store for a file manager...
Uninstall some apps if you need to make space
Or...is there an option within this interceptor app to delete the logs directly?

HTC HD2 512 running out of space?

using HTC HD2 512MB version, with MIUI.COM installed into the NAND
Questions:
1) I went to setting, and check the disk space free for the phone, adding up the disk space used, and free space, I only have 250MB in my phone? Why? How do I see 512MB in my phone?
2) How do I make the SD card the place to install all applications? like making it default?
3) When an application has been installed onto the phone; it says "30MB on Phone" and I hit the button "move to SD", and after moving, it says "140kb on SD" - what happen? Does it mean that it couldn't move the application from phone to SD? Or file size reported incorrectly?

Wrong Thread. You have to post your question in here:
HD2 Android Q&A and General
1)And also this is a stupid question!
If you flash a Rom in NAND then your free memory will not be 512MB because the Rom you flashed takes up your NAND space to start the system and start working! Logically!!!!!
2) If the Rom supports a2sd or data2ext then you can install several apps in SD card to save space.
3)Another stupid question. Well this is Normal.
There are several applications that can move to SD to save some Internal memory. Not all applications can move there though because you may corrupt them e.t.c.
misunderstanding of question (1)
my phone should have 512mb in there; after installing MIUI + apps to the NAND; a quick calculation total (used + free = 250MB only!)
what happen to the rest? (512mb - 250mb = 262Mb)
Download Titanium Backup from Market press on Overview and you will see your 512Mb space along with Free space and such!
okay, let me try

please bang your head in the wall and search google, this ain't your personal forums for finding if your phone is defective or not.
as for your case, your phone is normal, please keep in mind, hd2 is not native android phone, we are still running on the os.nb partition on windows phone (atleast on clk, dunno abt magldr as its closed source)and within that partition, we have other partitions for kernel, recovery, settings and cache.
so please stop posting such idiotic questions. and just try to think or atleast google before wasting our time and getting flamed upon by some stranger.
i know that google is our friend; but for a person who follows the miui tutorial to flash the rom into the device,
how could we have known what is going on? and what search terms to search?
FYI, I've tried searching for someone who has asked the same questions in xda, but couldn't find it,

Seeing that you already know a few of forum rules, that makes you look even more idiotic having posted a question in development section. I wonder if the mods were just playing around while they created the Q&A section.

[Q] Internal storage on tommytomatoes Classic Rom

I'd love to post directly to the thread in the developers section to ask this, but until then, can someone testing The Classic v0.0.9 let us know how internal storage is with the latest update?
I'm currently on Classic v0.0.6 with a substantial number of apps moved to SD card with Apps2SD Pro, and still only have about 47 mb of available space in Internal Storage. Just wondering if the latest version has more/less/or about the same amount of internal storage than v0.0.6?
Thanks

I'm running 0.0.9 and have a ton of free storage, however I'm using dta2sd on a partitioned SD card. I'm not familiar with apps2sd pro.
sent using a freaking pigeon, with a note tied to its leg.
Apps2SD Pro just moves part of the app. Data and cache still stay in the internal storage of the phone for the apps. If you use a lot of apps you may want to partitioned your sd card and flash dta2sd. This way the app and data will be moved to sd partition. You can even move the cache if needed. Hope that helps.
I wasn't familiar with dta2sd. Just read some posts stating that this rom already has it. Should I move the apps back to phone using Apps2SD, uninstall Apps2SD, then move to apps back again with dta2sd?

Is your sd card partitioned? If not you must do so to use dta2sd. Just make sure to backup all data from your sd card to your pc before doing so.
Sorry. I did mean to include in earlier post that my SD card is partitioned already. Thanks for all of the help.

Then all you need to do is go into terminal emulator. Type su. Then type a2sd reinstall. This will activate A2SD and move your apps and data to the sd partition. This is if the rom you have has a2sd baked in already. If not you will need to flash it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715938
Thanks, this worked for me as well!
I'm not sure if it's related, but after flashing DT a2sd, I was able to reinstall the google search box widget on Classic Rom. For some reason, I kept getting errors about a month or 2 ago. So I tried to uninstall/reinstall. For the past month or so, when tried to reinstall/download from Play, I kept getting error message.
Thanks again for this recommendation on a2sd.

This is by far the smallest internal storage usage I've had with any ROM. I also have my SD partitioned
and use ROM Toolbox's App2SD...
...and I know its off subject but I would like to share...
...this blows away any battery life I've had with other ROMs and kernels and tweaks.
sorry, missing link

Why do I keep getting insufficient storage available all the time and deleting ODEX?

Ever since I rooted my phone I get this "insufficient storage available" when downloading apps or updating them all the time now. Looking around the web there seems to be 100's of fixes but the only one that seems to work for me is manually going into date/app and deleting the offending app .ODEX file.
Please realize I have plenty of free space on my internal and external SD card. I found that 90% of the replies to this type of thread is "Oh you probably need to free up some space". No, I have many GB free on all my storage. I don't need to free up any space for a 6MB app.
So my question is why is this happening so often now? I'm on a stock ROM, never flashed anything.
This problem is becoming really annoying.
No replies? From teh googles this seems to be a ramped problem no?
Seems like tons of people are experiencing this.
Odex is a part of file compression. You might've messed something up if you're deleting odex files. I'd try flashing a deodexed stock-based rom.

No, this has nothing to do with rooting, the system creates .odex files naturally.

Ok, so we have some sort of mystery? I simply rooted my phone now this problem is occurring. What else could I have possibly done? lt didn't happen before now it is happening. You're saying its not because I rooted, strange.
BTW this post might be coming off as snippy but I'm not tying to be snippy.
I have no idea. I used to have this exact issue with my evo shift and certain apps. I would have to go in and delete the odex file before I could update the app

I've run into this issue several times. But not on a Stock Rom. First off I will suggest you stop deleting odex files. This will only cause issues down the line. As for the "insufficient storage available" . Look into what apps you have installed. Whenever I ran into this issue, it was usually a rogue app. Eating up space. On a few devices it was caused by restoring data for an app. Have you tried clearing data for the Play Store ? What I had to do in one instance was, clear data for the Play Store. Then completely uninstall it, and reinstall it.

Yeah I have plenty of free space, talking gigabytes. 9GB free on the phone and my 64GB mirco has 45 free GB. That is not the issue. How will deleting odex files create further issues? I've cleared data on the playstore app, have not completely uninstall it, and reinstall it. I'll give that a shot next time this issue pops up.
Strangely enough I have not seen this issue in like a week. Maybe it fixed itself? :fingers-crossed:
Thank you for the suggestions.
Do you have the app "lucky patcher" installed? I had the same problem. If this is the case, go into the app, then the menu, then select trouble shooting.

Smaller storage than announced

Hi there, I just wanted to know why the **** motorola announced that Moto Z Play XT1635-02 would come with 32GB of storage but it just came with 23.85GB, as you can see in the picture I'm not lying, it's just 23.85GB.... is there any way to fix it? Hahahahah I know that I can use a sdcard, but is there any other way?

Because it does come with 32 GB of built in storage. But if course with nothing that has any storage you wrong ever get the full capacity. In the case of every smartphone and other computer, part of that storage is already occupied by the system and its programs. And the only way to change anything would be to remove the OS but then you just have a useless brick. You should learn stuff like that before asking those questions. Or what do you think where the OS lives?

The installation file is just 1.5 GB. All inflated, installed and compiled is roughly 10 GB big. But that's not much for an operating system. iOS takes up about the same space, Windows even more. Just think about what needs space. The system partition with all the system apps (Google apps alone are already about 700mb only as apk files. Installed is most likely more), cache partition, bootloader, recovery, kernel, OS and much more. And it most likely includes some extra space that's empty at the moment but part of partitions you can't install apps to to have enough free space for future versions since with about every major update the OS becomes a bit bigger. Otherwise the installation process would need to include some form of dynamic partition size changing like it was included in windows mobile but probably wouldn't be that safe

I thought that's logic... Sure, they could ship it as a 10 GB image, but not everywhere you have fast unlimited internet speed. That's why even Microsoft leaned to make Delta updates for the big upgrades that only contain stuff that changed. That's why OTAs are mostly under a GB with the security patches taking only a few dozen MB
