any one uses the China MIUI 9 ROM on a Mi6 and can share recommendations? - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

I'm considering changing ROM to Chinese and want to know if someone from the "West" uses it regularly?

I don't think so, at least not without modifications to the original chinese rom. Not only the rom is chinese, you can't change region settings. And some apps refuse to run on chinese locale.

I'm using xiaomi.eu rom. It's based on the chinese version of miui but made for europeans.

You need to add Google Play Services and the chinese rom is only in Chinese and English.

I do, because I like the virtual SIM option. I also sideload Google Play Services and remove some bloatware. Works like a charm!

As Chinese, I don't recommend you to switch to chinese rom, There maybe many functions only used in China, your apps maybe innormal to work.

I haven't used Google Pay because in my country it's no use.
However, I have played around with it before and I got it to run. Did you pass both safetynet checks? If you do you should be able to make it work.

Honestly, I have been using it for over 6 months with minimal problems. I am also rooted, which allows me to remove bloatware or other functions that I really don't need.
The only problem I have encountered is the OneFootball app, when it updates throught the Mi Market it crashes on launch. But this can be fixed by disableing auto updates and just updating it through the google play store.
Battery life is also SO MUCH better on the Chinese Stable / Developer ROMs, but I still can't figure out why exactly, I suppose it has something to do with Google Play Services.

i've tried 14, 15, 16, google pay never works. I guess the main issue is from gapp.. but no idea how to find right gapp to use...

The way I installed is through a restore of a backup from Allbackup, the standard MIUI function. If you want I can upload it.

Download and install the xposed installer first and download zip through it.
- Install Magisk
- Go to Download section, search for xposed
- Install the xPosed installer for Magisk given in the text link
- Install the suitable framework
works and does not get kicked out by ROM updates.
Xposed doesn't work on miui 10 for our device. It gives bootloop.
I believe SELinux has to be _permissive_

I have seen you referring this microG many times with much admiration. The only microG I know is a small app required to sign in YouTube vanced and the older og YouTube. But of course you are talking about something much more complex. So what is that much useful that microG and fake gapps offer? I predict that it might need a lengthy answer so a summary would be good enough too.

Raptorddd, it is not possible using xPosed modules or framework on MIUI based ROMs. I was merely answering the general question if it can be installed on the Redmi Note 5. That question did not ask for MIUI.
To make that clear once again to all other users:
- MIUI uses a special framework that does not allow working with usual xPosed framwork
- Oreo AOSP and LIneage based ROMs do install and work with xPosed.
I have never used Gapps on my Redmi Note 5. I have microG on all my Oreo ROMs based on AOSP and Lineage. The easiest are Havoc and Aosip, these happen to be the two best ones at this time (for me). I have packed the Google Sync adapters and all microG modules in two zip files that I can flash from TWRP. That way the somewhat tedious installation of microG is vastly simplyfied when changing ROM. Nanodroid in the thread includes items I don't want.

well lets say its a lite version of google play services.. means more battery and also i can feel more responsive and snappier once you remove it. the only thing i log in is my google account for playstore.. microg replaces playservices.. that has like 300 services and and maybe 20 are on. while microg has like 7 or so.. on and less then 20 services..
i just want longer battery and more performance.. with microG that guy said on link that he added the signature to miui 10. i have not tried it yet.. easy way is magisk module or in nougat roms that are deodexed... oreo is odexed so cant patch it.. they are working on a patch that woks on oreo.. also 9.0 pie has problems i assumed rom is deodexed.
Gapps is a major contributor to battery consumption, most of the services are calling home functions that ensure Google gets also the last bit of where you go and what you do. Google Play services ensures this still happening in particular when there are non-Google apps running. Over the years it has been developed from an acceptable application framework to ensure location, notification and app service functions to a heavy prying tool. It is important for Google, which that is why it's force updated.
Google is making app developers disabling apps functioning, if no Google apps are installed, even though the app would work perfectly fine without.
That is where microG comes in. It is a not always a 100% replacement, some apps such as Google maps work only partially with microG, though there are alternatives for almost everything. https://shadow53.com/android/no-gapps/setup-guide/microg/
Tried to flash Xposed today only via Magisk 17.1v
Ended up in bootloop for MIUI 10 Developer ROM.
P.S.- Reflash the same zip via Recovery to uninstall and get out of boot loop
Some are claiming Xposed v90-beta3 is working with MIUI 10 but i've tried and it just results in a bootloop or booting to TWRP.
Has anyone on here had any success with xposed and MIUI 10?
Doesn't work, I tried and it too ended up in bootloop.

Xiaomi EU (MIUI) Update and Google Maps

I have recently updated my operating system to the latest stable by Xiaomi EU (by updated, I mean I have wiped and fresh installed the latest one).
All is well however the official Google Maps app is "not compatible with your device" now in the Play Store.
All other apps install just fine along with some other Google apps I use like Translate.
Does anyone know why this has happened?
I have also wiped and fresh installed previous versions of the Xiaomi EU builds in an effort to get this working but no luck.....Weird because it no longer works on builds it HAS previously worked on..
Thanks for reading, and thank you in advance for any feedback.

It seems a Google bug affecting chiron. Just change device's fingerprints. I choose Pixel 2, but you can use Mi Mix 2s, as you wish. You should be able to update or install Google Maps.

You are awesome, thank you.
Kinda unfortunate about the bug, means no matter what ROM we use it's gonna be the same. Hopefully they fix soon.
I have the same issue... but help, how to change device's fingerprints?

I just checked the play store and the bug seems to be fixed!
If you still have the issue, download a build.prop editor and change the device's build.prop file.
You'll need to change the parts which state the model of the phone for example "device name: chiron"
By changing this to something like "Polaris" (Mix 2s) instead of "chiron" it will trick Google.
Edit: You will need to be rooted. And I recommend BuildProp Editor by JRummy Apps
It's solved!

Any Signed ROMs rather than MIUI for Redmi 5A?

Does this phone has any signed roms? i.e. so that we can use Google Pay or Netflix like apps without installing Magisk (or rooting the device)?

Question Cannot use Google Pay on rooted Poco F3

Hey I have a question that really bothers me that I cannot use Google pay on my rooted poco f3 with stock Redmi K40 MIUI ROM.
I already hide all my google apps with Magisk hide and tried multiple times.
I also read something about changing my device fingerprint using `props` command in terminal but I failed to find Redmi K40 or Poco F3 on the list.
Is there anyone who can help me ? Thank you ^^
You can try the package "MagiskHide Props Config" from the built-in Magisk repos.
There is a lot which can be configured with that package, but there should be no need.
The documentation is (thankfully, for an Android project) quite extensive.
I already installed it and I don't actually know what to do other than change the device fingerprint from there, which I can't find poco f3 in the certified device list.
So my question is actually: Is there a device fingerprint of POCO F3 that I can directly replace on my ROM and use?
I'm not an expert for this topic, but are you sure all the Google Play apps (Play Store, Play Framework etc) are working correctly?
The only time I had a similar sounding issue was when I played around with microG and Nandroid.
I might look more deeply into it if i find the time.
What rom are you using? Im on rooted miui .eu 12.5.2 and all works as normal.

how did you root your china rom?
flash gpay sqlite fix
Have you checked both options for hiding Google pay? Also, have you hidden the magisk app itself by renaming it in the magisk settings?
Once you done those things, if they weren't done before, you may need to clear cache/data from Gpay in order for the app start a 'fresh' and not be 'aware' of root - but that's just a guess... i don't use Gpay, but i've just tried it on ArrowOS with root, all i did was hide magisk app itself and hide Google pay from root as per image

Yes, themes with .mtz extension I downloaded from browser don't work, and in EU most the themes are in Chinese words.. I actually prefer MIUI more than AOSP, but MIUI gets more complicated like for example to set permission for battery optimization, need to set per/app in the Apps page and Battery Saver page. Sometimes the permission page in Privacy will not change then must go change manually.
My Mail app crashes all the time in EU 21.9.
For the new feature of 21.9, did all your apps get set Autostart automatically? Was it due to the update or originally all the apps are set to Autostart by default?

The status bar will be my least worry, the one that really keeps me on my toes all the time are the unnecessary apks installed in system with part of the name being "theme", and there is plenty of those files. The theming is complicated too, you don't even know where they hid the theme files. I tried to look for guides in official community forums, no luck. Another thing, is it just me or do you feel that the system Dark Mode is actually Black and not Dark? I mean, if other apps could tell the difference then Mi can't be so careless right?
