Rom with always on display? - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Does anyone know of a rom that has always on display? I was going to go with codename phoenix but it has been discontinued and I don't know of another one.

Omni has it. Codename Phoenix is still being built, just no dedicated support. It's rock solid loaded with features.
Also, there is a substratum theme that supports it as well.

I believe it works in all the 8.1 Roms as long as you flash the OOS Oreo firmware.

As mentioned apparently you can enable this feature on the 8.1 only.
I use Always on Amoled from the store or glance plus. They both work well.

Yeah glance plus I use for me is the best solution i found but still some issues with glance but not big deal the final experience is pretty good

The Always on Display in OmniRom is flawless.

You are alright im not developer but probably don't have the same functionality as ambient display backed in a rom. Probably if you give all the permission and accessibility probably work as we want but i don't want to give every permission to the app im. Waiting for a good rom baked but for now it's ok

[DEVS REQUIRED] Is it possible to enable double-tap-to-wake function on G Pro?

I have always dreamed of having the double-tap-to-wake function on this phone. As far as I know, the kernel has to be capable of supporting this feature.
So I was wondering... Is it possible for any developer to modify or create a kernel that supports this feature? I feel that this will be very appreciated by the G Pro community. Also, if the is a hardware or any type of restriction, please tell me.
Thank you for your attention
Well Dan its all up to our master @Emmanuel U if he decide to integrate it.
Personally i dont think it's a good idea. I had it on 4.3 roms (back in days) with mserg kernel(i think),
and as a postpaid user dont need it. I had a lot of in pocket unlocks and some nice surprise bills
It would be nice as a possible enable/disable feature but prolly wouldn't use it... cheers :good:

You're right with the accedental unlocks, but it would be nice to have it as an option. I use a case that covers back and screen, so there are less probabilities for that to happen in my situation. I know it's not necessary, but again it's nice to have more options available. Best regards

I can look into implementing it, but I would never default it enabled or even encourage using it. Those kinda things like to suck up battery plus like you said, can have unintended outcomes.
I agree, I think it would be a cool feature to be able to enable/disable.. --- Anything on this yet??

I´ll try it thanks, but I would like to have it on AOSP CM based roms, that´s why I asked for a kernel.
Heads up
Just a reminder that I haven't forgotten about this request, I just haven't had enough time to develop anything recently. I'll try to get something going soon, but no ETA with school back in session

Well I've already implemented sweep2wake and doubletap2wake, I can look into that soon.
Edit: that seems to be a rom feature, like double tap status bar to sleep
Right we have doubletap2sleep but its th wake function that doesnt work i found an alternate method but it uses the proximity sensor and wakes on its own the pocket

Double press power button to launch camera

Okay, call me crazy, but I am positive that that shortcut was not present before. I have the latest security patch, no root, no bootloader unlocked, no custom rom. I double pressed it and the camera launched. I don't know if it has to do with hiding the stock Sense Home screen via adb. I don't know what I did. I don't find a setting or anything in the entire system.

I have only tried some apps but don't work
Yeah, I read it somewhere, it's one of the effects of disabling the HTC Lockscreen. Having the stock Android Lockscreen enables that double press shortcut.
I have a question too though, does the fingerprint scanner work on the Stock Android Lockscreen?
Question: how do I disable this feature?

Face Unlock much slower after today's update =(

After updating to 43 OTA 004, Faceunlock is no longer instant. now you see first the lockscreen flash and then UI slide in. I went back to 43 OTA 003, but same situation.
before it was just press powerbutton/doubletap screen and the screen turned on showing instantly UI whereever you left off. just like all the reviewers showed it. I dont have file to go back to inital firmware 001 .... :/
VERY DISAPPOINTING, it really breaks the "instant" feeling. hope they fix it soon.
meanwhile, no speed increase in fingerprint reader. still slightly slower than OP3.
UPDATE: solved - it is Nova Launcher with a custom wallpaper that caused this -> back to Oneplus launcher, set new wallpaper = FaceUnlock instant again!

thanks, ok then i did something to cause it... hm too bad
Here on 4.7.2 its also slow.
I had the same problem and factory reset: face unlock is back to being instant, and the finger print reader is noticeably faster. It is troublesome, however, that an OTA forced me to factory reset a 3 day old phone...
I have also reset after update but not solved.
I updated homescreen and lockscreen wallpaper with a custom one and experienced a slight drop on face unlock speed. Meaning that I was able to see the lockscreen for 1/10 of a second before the homescreen was there. I reverted the wallpaper choosing one of oneplus 's and face unlock speed was back to instant. Just a tip.
Works fine for me. I'm on FreedomOS based on Oxygen 4.7.2.

Smart Lock menu

Hi guys,
is there a way to get into the Google smart lock settings manually?
Unfortunately you will only see this menu by pairing a new bluetooth device, then you will get a popup regarding the smart lock settings.
This has been discussed a lot in the xiaomi forum, xiaomi just removed the frontend from all of their roms.
I tried a few apps like Smart Lock Launcher and Quick Shortcut Maker, but they do not work.
The build in feature in the lockscreen settings is only working for xiaomi devices.
Any solution?
No idea?
You're talking about MIUI? For the relatively short period that I used it, it looked to me as if Xiaomi had completely replaced the Android code with their own version that only worked with Xiaomi devices. I never found a way around it. It's one of the many reasons why I only lasted a couple of weeks on MIUI.
same
Likewise, seems Xiaomi only allows their own devices to be able to smart unlock the phone.
Google smartlock seems to be disabled.
I also don't get google map notifications on my lock screen.
Will be my last xiaomi device unless they fix this soon

Don't really know enough to do that - plus I hate having to tinker with things. Wish I went with the One Plus...only issue I had on my One Plus 5T was the issues with the sound recording on third party apps
On MIUI EU I found that if you pair a bluetooth device it gives you the option to enable smart lock for it then you can press back and setup smart lock for onbody / location however smart lock doesn't work.
Even when connected to the bluetooth device / at home etc it still wants a pin if you just try and swipe up.
Pretty disappointing

Question FaceID for pixel 6 pro?

Hi, i was wondering if its possible to port the face recognition option we used to have on older android versions as a mod on the pixel 6 pro. I believe they used the front camera.
Are there any accuracy problems associated with using front camera?
I just needed a faster option to unlock at work as my hands get kinda dirty and the FP sensor on pixel 6 is sensitive to dust unlike the one on my pixel 3 XL (RIP legend).
If there is a solution that exists already, please forgive my naivety and point me to the thread/discussion for it. Thank you!
I don't think there is currently a solution and I doubt there will be unless Google includes it later.
Can you use smart unlock, with your works WiFi? Or location unlock if it has that?
There were reports that FaceID is in the code, but that it was not used on the P6 because it drains the battery. Since the battery is not great as is, I can see the point. I also wonder how secure it is, as Apple uses dedicated hardware to ensure security (thus the notch), but Google seems to rely on the camera alone -- I assume it's a more secure unlock than the totally inon-secure fake FaceID unlocks on many Chinese phones, like Xiaomi.
On another note, I am trying to use my Garmin watch as a trusted device, but about half the time it doesn't work and the phone would ask for PIN. The trusted device implementation, at least with a watch, is kind of a joke, so I am thinking of disabling it at this point.
I am using Trusted Location. Seems like its working fine. Google 'begs' to have you turn 'on' location function for several of its niceties to work. So security joins the growing pile.

Trusted location is poor security, for many reasons.
Anyone at the location can unlock your phone, so for most of us it's not a solution.

Was about to say this. Wifi/Location unlocking when at work is not a good idea.
There is a reason why we lock our phones, and no human is perfect - you might forget it for a moment, or get distracted - whatever.
If someone doesn't care for security in any way (I am perfect & my phone will 24/7 stay on me, no matter what) then he/she/is doesn't need any sort of security active in the first place.

It can certainly be done, but you'll have to write some of the code for it yourself. There are a number of open source facial recognition packages available that you can leverage for this.

I work in construction and so there's usually no wifi at work. And the location differs almost everyday so that won't be a viable solution as well.

Nononono, wrong approach. You do NOT want to bypass phone security. You want to integrate into it. Android is an open source operating system, just find the code where the 4 included unlock mechanisms are defined (swipe/pattern/pin/password), and add your own in the same way.

Fax cus I'm sure that "don't turn off screen if I'm looking at it" feature uses battery and it's ALWAYS ON when you're on your phone if you turn it on. Face ID only on when you use it, how can that even affect battery ?

But is it a secure lock like Apple's Face-ID or is it a gimmick like on the various Chinese phones, that's more for "entertainment purposes only?"

Yeah but it would only be looking for one thing. Maybe all the battery used on image processing for FaceID adds up over the many unlocks during the course of the day. Thats why i am keen to have it enabled only while I'm at work as the FP works fine in all other circumstances.
