Tab S 10.5 lte (t807r4) rom request. - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looks like there isn't a lineage os rom for this version. Any other nougat roms for it or anyone know how to build one? Thx

I had one of these and sold it because there was nothing you could do to upgrade it. I don't think they sold enough of this model for anyone to justify the amount of time it would take to build/debug a custom ROM. It can be rooted and TWRP can be installed but that still leaves you with a MM ROM. If you want a Tab S 10.5 with a custom ROM, you might as well sell this one and get the wifi only version.

I don't really see any reason why this device cannot use the other T800 or T805 ROMS. LTE may not work but everything else should.
It doesn't have a locked bootloader so should be a trivial affair to Install with TWRP.

You may be right. Mine had the touch screen freezing issue so I decided just to sell it (with full disclosure of the issue.)

When I try the t805 roms I get an error. I fugured the t800 roms wouldnt work because the t087x's have a diff cpu.

What error? As far as I can remember the T804r is an Exynos device. It's been a while so I may be incorrect on that? :silly:

I stand corrected, like I say it's been a while since I worked on the Tab S.

[Q] Any timeframe for CM11 or AOSP suppost for this tablet?

Not sure if this has been answered already, and Im very appreciative of all devs here on XDA, but ive been holding of buying this tablet because as I love samsung's HW, touchwiz is a big nono, and such a flagship does surely deserve a CM11 or AOSP support....the question is whether work has begun or not.
Cheers and thanks y'all
A CM11 port already exists. Don't hope for anything officially of course.

Which one? The T-700 or T-800? There's a mostly working CM ROM for the T-700, the T-800 has a port of that and most things work. I fear it's going to be a while, if ever, that we get a fully working AOSP ROM for the T-800.

any idea why? sammy's hw is usually a dream to work on and unlocking bootloaders and such was easy...what happened?
and im interested in the T-800 btw
I took a gamble on getting the 10.5 and it has been a pretty mediocre experience so far. There is an awesome AOSP Rom (which may be CM11 now) for the T700, but nothing for the T800 lately, it seems to be dead in the water. Suzook took the time to port it for us T800 users, but something he was doing was against the rules on XDA so that shut it down
Using ThunderRom now, but TouchWiz ruins the device for me. Also battery is pretty bad.
It is still an ok tablet but I am curious to see what will become of development on Samsung products since they are starting to use non Snapdragon chipsets on certian products now.

thats the reason why im holding back. I work at an electronics store and tried the tablet a few times....the software is so bloated and all those pseudo-magazine fx stuff they got going on is def not working. I really dont like how they change the overall feel of android, like placing the apps button on the bottom right, maybe intuetive but having spent 3 yrs on a CM rom, you get used to certain stuff. Also, with all this dev in HW, and touchwiz still feeling laggy, i dont see why sammy is continuing down this path
Just run Nova launcher then. No big deal.

And it's pretty obvious it's not just about the launcher. Touchwiz permeates the entire OS in a way that stinks up and clogs up EVERYTHING.

They have been using Exynos in the past way before they caved in to Snapdragon temporarily.
My guess is they're looking to squeeze more profits by using their own SOCs.

Apparently CM doesn't like Exynos processors, which the 10.5 has, so there aren't any official CM builds just ported ROMs. It's completely possible to get CM on the 10.5, as we've seen, we just need a dedicated and knowledgeable developer to work on getting the ROM to work 100%.
At least we have root to stop or remove the crap we don't need until an overrated or fix this and break that rom comes along....until then root, pull out what you don't want, and slap Nova on it.

That is a crutch that gives you the placebo effect of making it way faster. Bottom line it is TouchWiz that bogs this down, so until a true AOSP or CM comes out, you won't will see a major improvement.
It looks like dev is never going to happen for this tablet.

Any point to keeping Knox?

I bought my Tab Pro 10.1 in the U.S. and live in Canada so warranty is worthless to me, and I very much doubt I will get to BYOD where I work. Is there even the faintest value in preserving my device's virginity and not giving it the experience of a rooted Lollipop (assuming I like LP which I do)?

Nope. Even with a valid warranty, I found it well worth it to root and flash CM12. Stock TouchWiz ROM is crap.

But I don't know yet if it's worth it...

Differences between Snapdragon and Exynos Radios for USA - AT&T?

Hey all,
I have the option of buying the phone straight from AT&T or getting an international unlocked version. I know that the Exynos processor is better for performance for the most part, but how are the radio's/performance/battery life in comparison to the SD820? I live right by NYC so I have full LTE everywhere I go right now. I'm not worried about VoLTE if that's an issue, I very rarely use the phone to call.
Thanks guys!

If the Note 7 is like the GS7 Edge, then the Exynos version will have better battery life. Right now, no one really knows.
Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
One of the few reasons to go with a carrier phone is because they optimize the radios for their networks. S-820 devices use Qualcomm's X12 LTE modem which supports LTE-U. Exynos devices use Samsung Shannon 935 modem. Both support LTE category 11/12. They're the same modems used in the S7-series so look at their forums. Any happiness or unhappiness using either on AT&T would be the same for the Note7.
Im curious as well either getting the international version or Tmobiles version. I see the Note 5 international roms have alot more options and the processor is going to be better on the international variant.

Better battery life and memory management. Worse GPU is the general consensus.

If you can unlock the bootloader on the locked US versions that is. Even then I think exynos is better if you dont play alot of games.

I build exynos for the S6....games are not a issue on my kernels.
I just wish Sammy would of left the bootloader alone.
Hi Guys,
I'm tired of asking for more and more details and not enough answers. Can you guys help me come up with a bottom line?
If I need an unlocked Bootloader and custom development support and using the phone in the US on AT&T or T-Mobile, which variant should I get? The regular N930F or the Dual SIM version the N930FD?
Thanks for your help!

Snapdragon gets more development. But, Exynos is good. I guess it really depends on who builds it to be honest.

How do you figure that, my friend? Especially with a locked Bootloader on the SD?
With the international variant, you won't get Samsung pay if that is a big deal to you.

I'm basing this purely on the stock numbers testing. The SD has a better GPU technically.

Still a good buy?

Hi guys, I want you to ask if this tablet is still a good buy? I need it for drawing and can get a good one for 150 Euros. I know that there are no more updates, but it seems that some 7.1 Roms work good.
So...what do you say?

Had it for close to 4 years now, and still find it difficult to get an upgrade. Tab S3 just doesn't seem worth the extra money - maybe S4 will.
The software is lollipop, but very functional and quite smooth after some debloating.
If it's a WiFi only model, there's a marshmallow touchwiz based rom by bonuzz which is highly rated.

Thank you for your answer from the specs, I think it should do the job for some drawings. And good to know that the software available doesn't really suck thanks
You won't find anything better below 200 or better 300€, especially with a digitizer, and 4G is also not too common in tablets. And there are current LOS and RR roms good enough to serve as daily driver. Seems still not to be an issue that the SoC is only 32bits.
It's a good device, yeah, but since officially it got stuck on Android L, it's definitely started to lose support in software on the Play Store. Seems developers are defaulting to Android 6.0 as the compatibility watershed now. However, if you're OK with aftermarket ROMs, that's not a problem.

Rooting the Samsung Galaxy s20+

All of the U.S. Samsung Galaxy S20+ devices will all have locked bootloaders just like all of the other U.S branded Samsung devices so this device will never ever be able to be rooted correct.so if I want to do any rooting I need to buy a international version right? Thanks In advance!!!
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I'd say more or less that's probably the best bet but for sure is not 100% occasionally they find a way be it rare imo
I would never say never. I came from a Galaxy S7 Edge, which was eventually rooted when someone released an ENG kernel that could be flashed, allowing root. Of course it was super unstable and caused your phone to lag and overheat, but it was still a thing.
But yeah, the Exynos version is already sporting an unlocked bootloader and legitimate root. If you're really dependent on root, you want the international version. I bought my US/Verizon variant knowing I probably would never be able to root it in any kind of good way.
Why do you need root?
What do you need that doesn't have a non-root solution?
I am just curious.

No need to apologize. Some people have solid reasons for rooting. I was a crackflasher years ago, back when OEM skins were janky and lacked basic features. Custom ROMs filled a void that was desperately needed. Nowadays, OEM skins are significantly improved and offer a lot of customization and practical options.
Having said that, I wouldn't hold my breath for Snapdragon models to get a bootloader unlock. Snapdragon has become a tough nut to crack, and Exynos has traditionally been more mod-friendly. So if you want custom ROMs, get the Exynos model.
Edit: Before buying, you should know the Exynos model appears to get worse battery life than Snapdragon. So you must decide which is more important: Custom ROMs, or longer battery.
If you are in the US, you should also determine if the Exynos model supports all the bands used by your carrier.
