how to put custom ROM ???

.Hey guys I'm new in this world of rooting ...maybe know someone how to put Omega 7.2 ROM into the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 SGH-I317M. ????

First off there is a Q&A section for questions. They don't go here.
Second that's an international rom you can't just simply flash it like the roms in the Development section. This link can tell you how to port it but if you are new you probably shouldn't try it.

NightHawk hit the nail on the head. It would be best for you right now to read up and learn as much as you can about how the forum works as a whole and how development and custom roms recoveries etc work in general.....Here is a good place to start!

My note 2 is on its way,in the mean time ill be reading alot.

A lot of us would suggest you take a bit of time to read up on what you will need. I short a safe bet is to read twice and flash once. Doing any sort of flashing will void your warranty and you run the risk of damaging your phone. Granted most mishaps are fixable with knowledge and experience. For you however, having a bootloop or a soft brick would not be fun.
I suggest you get the proper drivers for your version of the n2
I suggest you read up on how to root the note 2: read the entire thread...yes it is repetitive,but at least you get an idea of what can go wrong and how to fix it be reading what happened to others. Then decide on what recovery you would like....read up on cwm or twrp and how to install them properly. once you have done all that...then it is time to flash a custom rom.
I think I would recommend you do a bit more reading before deciding wether rooting and flashing a custom rom is for you

There is a lot to absorb when first looking to install a custom rom. I'm a visual person so I like youtube a lot. When you find the forum that suits your particular device, there will usually be a thread something along the lines of "all you need to know about (your phone here)". My own method of learning was to make a list of each individual task that I needed to do and then youtube it to see someone doing it in person so I can get an idea of what it looks like.
Usually the steps to a custom rom are:
1) Root:
methods can differ among devices and developers (youtube your phone for root)
2) Install a custom "recovery"
will typically be either Clockworkmod or TWRP. I've only ever used clockworkmod but people say good things about TWRP also. Make sure to have all your ducks in a row and are confident about each step you will be taking. Skipping a step or doing it incorrectly can cause serious headaches and can derail you for hours trying to figure out how to fix it if you are not already familiar with what to do.

well done and i completely agree, but for someone who's so new you musn't forget to install the drivers for the device you have onto your pc or laptop or whatever is going to run Odin for you.... no drivers is the easiest and fastest way to ensure your shiny new device is on the short bus to not working right
it is often overlooked and ppl presume that they just do it - installing the drivers that is - and it's often mentioned in the rooting thread, but only in passing.
if you do not have the proper drivers your 700+ dollar device will not last long so do yourself a favor and make sure you have them installed properly and that your computer detects the device properly
when you plug into odin you should see a yellow background with COM and a number in it (changes depending on the usb port you are plugged into) if you don't have that, don't click the start button cuz you gonna be in the hurt locker in all likelihood even if you follow the instructions to a T.

I'm relatively new to all of this, only rooting my Evo, and now my Note 2.
I cannot stress enough how correct all the previous replies are. Read everything you can about your device and rooting in general. Use Youtube. Use this forum, use any information you can find. Learn the language(it can be tricky). Learn as much as possible and ask questions....just make sure you look for the answers before asking them.
Once you feel comfortable, the Devs do a solid job of making it easy for us, follow the steps and you should have success.

[Q] Root injected ROMS and CLEANROM

Hey guys,
Im a recent android convert after having bought an iPhone on the first day it was available, and almost all revisions since. I bought my Note II just before Xmas and cannot believe how satisfied I am with the new OS and the hardware.
Now in the android world, I'm lookign to gain the full functionality of multi-view by rooting and installing CLEANRom. However after reading all the guides I still have a couple questions.
1) By using the root injected roms (Im on Rogers), will the phone be ready to accept CleanRom? Im just unclear if root injected methods allow a custom ROM to be installed without any issue. If not, is there an alternative or easier rooting method that will allow cleanrom to be installed?
2) finally, due to my noobness, Im just wondering if there exists a very clear guide (perhaps with a video or picture step by step) that uses as few acronyms as possible (im still getting the hang of the jargon) for first root injecting/rooting a note II/similar phone and also installing a custom ROM?
Also, as Im a mac user, any tips on being able to carry on this on a mac would be appreciated. As it stands, Im boot-camping windows XP using a virtualizing software with windows 7 to be able to do this.

It sounds to me like you are looking for a "laymans terms" description on the physical mechanics of installing a custom ROM. Here is a link to a post where I gave the best instruction I could to install a custom ROM (in this example the jedi rom) for someone on att. Most of the steps will be exactly the same for Cleanrom and I think there will be seperate instructions for Rogers in the actual Cleanrom thread.

as a fellow Mac user, you are pretty much going to be frustrated and pissed off when trying most Mac methods to root. I dual booted mine with Windows 7 just for the purpose of screwing around with my phone(s).
I don't know about root injection or whatever. I know I used Odin on Windows to flash a single .tar file and that gave me superuser, and my cleanrom 4.05
There are several ways to root and it seems there are different methods here and there. It is quite frustrating at first.
http://galaxynote2root.com/ is a good site and I believe it is the same guy that has made like 60 videos for the Note 2.
There are different Roms and people sometimes try different ones. I like the cleanroms by scott. Just search for scotts roms on google and it will take you to his site.
You will have to do a factory reset on your phone first. It will erase everything and bring it back to how you got it out of the box. Reset won't touch your external sdcard.
I don't know how anything works with virtual windows. You may also have to download Samsung drivers to get the computer to recognize your phone.

Hello, this is the first time posting on this forum and relatively new on the android platform after jumping ship from blackberry. So, i have afew questions i hope you guys can help me with.
1. I heard/read alot regarding rooting to bring out the full potential of an android(s4) phone. What is the full advantage of rooting my phone? How does granting administrative access affect my phone performance?
2. I often see the jargon of bloatware on this forum, what does it exactly mean?
3. What is the function of ROM?

Rooting your phone gives you access to do anything you want ie (Apps 2 sd) that the phone dosent permit you to do.
A ROM is just a different feel, and its a faster alternative in upgrading your android ios. (S4 has touchwiz, can change it to Htc Sense)
Bloatware is a bunch of unnecessary apps that Carriers know youll never use but have it just cause. Its annoying and it takes up space. Rooting allows you to delete these apps, cause if its not you wont be able to remove it.

I was wondering if there is a sort of rooting guide for dummies out there. I want to root my phone to get rid of some of the bloatware that I will never use, and also to delete the annoying start up and shut down sounds. Other than that, I'm happy with Touchwiz so far, but I suppose adding custom themes would be fun.
I rooted my last phone (Samsung Vibrant) over 2yrs ago and don't remember how I did it. I know I installed a custom ROM, but don't remember how to do that either. I remember following a really good guide with pictures and step by step instructions though. It's early days yet with the S4, but I really hope someone will do the same kind of guide because it's very helpful for those of us who like to customize but don't have the time or knowledge to seriously get into it. When I look at some of the threads on rooting it just seems like a foreign language to me!

Try the motochopper method - the guide is pretty simple and self explanatory however if you're on latest kernel then rooting is a no go as of now

Thanks I looked at that and it seems straightforward, but I'm concerned about what to do after the actual root. Things like how to back the phone up in case I mess it up, how to delete things, how to add things. Also I find a lot of the terminology confusing... not quite sure what all the acronyms stand for either, like ODIN or CWM, or what each thing does exactly. As far as the kernel... as far as I know nothing has been updated. I got the phone on the first day it came out so I'm assuming it doesn't have the latest kernel. How would you find out? Not even sure what the kernel is or what it does :\ I would like to find out though!

^^^then you might be on an earlier kernel version anyway trying to root by motochopper method won't brick your device even if it doesn't go successful so no worries.
ODIN is the same software that service centres use to revive your bricked device - as a matter of fact with Samsung drivers, a usb cable and stock rom downloaded from online sources like sammobile, you can revert almost any instances of soft brick. Simply saying ODIN will flash back factory/stock rom anfd make your device as it was when you bought it. And yeah flashing via ODIN and all are more or less same procedure for all Samsung devices
Cwm is a custom recovery. If you don't know what recovery means it might be worth googling for better understanding the concept as even my knowledge is limited and my explanations might fall short of your expectations

with regards to rooting my s4 which is running on 4.2.2 jellybean, does motochopper actually brick my phone? In addition, can i root my phone to remove the bloatwares and afterwhich, unroot my phone again, with all the bloatwares already permanently removed? Is it possible to download the full list of softwares of the s4 online such that if i accidentally remove an important software, i will be able to restore it. As I am someone who is not into very much customization and over-clocking, i believe i dont need my phone rooted for custom ROM right? I can use stock ROM when my phone is unrooted and clear of bloatware?

#1. Locate GS4 box, place phone inside box.
#2. Return to store and get iPhone.
Serious tho. Best thing you can do is READ. SEARCH and READ. SEARCH and READ.
If you are unsure about something, READ again. Most questions have already been asked and answered.
If you find yourself lost......SEARCH and READ. Believe me this is this most useful advice you will ever get here.
Stuff is so easy now compared to when android 1st started. I remember rooting my G1 on a terminal prompt and installing recovery with wicked long commands. Now everything is automated and the hardest (NOT) part is reading the step by step instructions provided on almost every mod and tweak.

[Q] [Sprint - SPH-L520] Need some pointers.

I recently signed up for a new Sprint contract and got a free Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (Sprint model -- SPH-L520) however, everything I can find relates to rooting the GT-I9195 and GT-l9190. All I want to do is root it to be able to run apps that require root, I don't necessarily need a custom ROM loaded on it.
I do know some programming, though the languages I know probably wouldn't help much for this, and consider myself an advanced user of many desktop and server operating systems (Windows, Linux, some BSD). Although I am new to Android I'd like to give it a shot, if it's not too far out of my reach.
I'm really just looking for good starting guides and some tips from the pros. I've done a lot of Googling and researching on these forums but I haven't really found any guides that starts from scratch. I'm am willing to take the time to learn even if it takes a while.

I know this may seem redundant, but make sure you have the correct Samsung drivers installed (reinstall them and restart your pc). Make sure your PC recognizes your phone in debugging mode.

Newbie! Zenfone 2 now rooted...now what!

Hi all,
I have a zenfone 2 that I have just rooted....so now what?
Basically I wanted to optimise my phone so I am able to disable annoying notifications which are greyed out (although since rooting and checking this it still greyed out) I want to remove bloatware and I would actually like to customise my own android system, starting from a 'vanilla' base where I can build it up myself.
I have also read that I need to install a android recovery programme on asap after rooting.
So sorry about this but I really do need 'stupid' instructions as using hi tech words will just baffle me. lol
I have played around with computers in the past and learned about them so this is the phone stage now!

Hi Kerry,
First thing you should now do after rooting your device would be flashing a custom recovery that is specific to your device (make sure your devices boot loader is unlocked first). This will allow you to make a backup of everything just in case anything were to go wrong, flash custom ROMs and useful zips. You can pick your favorite custom recovery such as Team Win Recovery Projects custom recovery (TWRP), Clock Work Mods custom recovery (CWM) or Philz Touch recovery based off of CWM although personally I would recommended twrp.
There are multiple ways to do this: Using the TWRP/CWM recovery installer from the play store or the more complicated way of flashing it from your computer. If you were to choose to install TWRP from their app on the play store (grant it root permission) you can select your device from the supported device section within the app, pick the latest recovery, hit the install button and let the app work its magic. If all works correctly you can now reboot to recovery and you will see TWRP is installed. Now you should create a backup to be on the safe side and you're good to go!
To best optimize your device I would recommend installing a custom ROM (look up custom ROMs for the Zenfone 2) and install the zip through recovery. (make sure to pick the right ROM for your device and version otherwise you may soft brick your smartphone) Now with a custom ROM you can better optimize your device and fully customize it to your liking. Make sure to look up custom ROM installation instructions for your device for better detail.
As far as removing system apps/bloatware you can use a "root app delete" tool from the play store but be careful what you remove as some applications are required!
Make sure to take your time and be careful when attempting any of these things and be careful what you modify! Just remember that no question is a stupid question as we all have to start somewhere!

I also went ahead and checked the TWRP app and the Zenfone 2 is supported so it looks like your good to go. All devices have a different method for unlocking bootloader (some don't even have locked bootloaders) but this is an official bootloader unlocking method for the Zenfone 2 from Asus itself. I suggest following its directions and you should be able to unlock it this way.

Ok I followed the link but now I am confused. I have version ww_2.20.40.63_201......
Apparently I need a later version. What started off with just adding an APP means me doing other things before I even get to that point (hence the confusion! lol)
I never updated the phone via OTA as I was told it would invalidate my warranty and also I have killed a phone before using that so can you walk me through please...if you have the time....or could I just check if I have it unlocked already??
I haven't even gotten to the part where I create a backup...tee hee

Hi sorry for the late reply, I'm in Canada so it was 2am when I was last talking to you so I went to bed haha. Anyway as far as unlocking the Zenfone 2's bootloader I wouldn't have experience unfortunately as I'm using a Nexus 5. The easiest way to go about this now would be to go to your device specific forum and find a way to unlock it there.
The following way to unlock the bootloader requires you have ADB installed on your PC. This is a guide for installation on Windows :

BTW as you mentioned "updating may invalidate your warranty" things like rooting, installing a custom OS, unlocking the bootloader, installing a custom recovery and other things like that all (in most cases) void your warranty.
