LG G4 Flash Stock ROM Problem - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have LG G4 and I flashed (upgraded) it through LGUP from 5.1 to 6.0 a couple of days back. This is what has happened.
Before Flashing:
Hardware - LG-H815T
Android - 5.1
Software - H81510p
Baseband - MPSS.BO.2.5.c3-00072-M8992FAAAANAZM-1
Kernel - 3.10.49
Build Number - LMY47D
IMEI - 357766060879504
After Flashing:
Hardware - LG-H818
Android - 6.0
Software - V20a-OPT2-HQ
Baseband - MPSS.BO.2.5.c3-00101-M8992FAAAANAZM-1
Kernel - 3.10.84
Build Number - MRA58K
IMEI - Same
This is what the problems are:
1. The phone turns on but the screen stays black all the time. There is one way to turn on the screen and that is by removing the battery and plugging it to the usb cable and when the screen blinks for the missing battery indication, holding down the power button and inserting the battery. This way the phone turns on as if it has no issues.
2. The internal storage is showing 22gb instead of 32gb.
3. I am unable to flash (upgrade or refurbish) the phone through LG Flash Tool 2014, LGUP and LG Bridge. All softwares partially work through the process and according to my analysis give an error at the point after establishing connection with the mobile when its the time to access the internal storage for writing system files on the phone's storage.
4. I am unable to conclude the model number of the phone because before flashing it was H815T, after flashing it is H818 and when I connect it to LG Bridge, it shows the connected phone as F500K.
5. I tried to unlock the bootloader of the phone by visiting the LG Developer site and when I came down to filling in the information of the phone like IMEI and Device ID derived from the instructions outlined, it does not accept H815 as the model number against the Device ID of my phone and secondly does not list H818 and F500K in the dropdown options.
I don't know what wrong have I done in my life to end up in a situation like this???

Hello there,
To solve this you need to edit a H815 tot file(if u dont have one download here https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24723757092307739) in a Hex editor(here a portable version of HxD wich i prefer http://mh-nexus.de/downloads/HxDde.zip, just download and run).
Open .tot in HxD, then you CTRL+F for "xVLG-H815" and replace H815 or whatever your tot have along with 'xVLG' to the model your phone is being recognized as(F500K in your case).
Almost done, just save and flash in LGUP using refurbish option

LG G3 D857 Bricked. Cant fix that by normal TOT flashing

Thank you for watching this message!
My brother's phone is LG D857, he tried to change to D858HK, then that is fail and I dont know how he do that, that phone was bricked.
Then I tried to recover his phone to be D857, and that was work.
HOWEVER, he tried again, wanted to make that to be D858HK.
I have no idea what he did the last time.
I tried to help him by using the same method.
That phone can work in Download mode.
But cant work normally.
Finally, I surrender.... because I'm not good for that.
Let me tell you about the situation and what I tried.

sorry you had problems
the error is one of the drivers lg
you should plug it into one of the main USB ports on your PC.
or rather entering device manager and re-assign drivers to ports.
Have you downloaded the lgup for lg g3 and g2?
Drivers are installed, USB debugging is enabled, LG PC Suite OK.not sure what else there is missing.
Download : lgup-g2-g3.zip
Solve it FIX
good after I found the problem LGUP
roms apparently change the model of the device as it changes cm11 to build Cyanogenmod 11 xx
AOSP - to AOSP rom 2 etc.
the solution would be to install a stock rom clean no matter if v10 v30 etc. The important thing is not having changed the model number and manufacturer.
I hope I have helped and sorry
that includes cloudy fa's roms

Hi !
How do I do all the above ?
My PC recognize the phone without problem, but LGUp won't start unless I "select a known model"... (LGUp window shows : Model = Unknown ; COM Ports = [COM5, CloudyG3] )
Problem is that my phone is softbricked after installing a new ROM, and I can only enter download mode (not even recovery). I just want to downgrade it and reflash a LG's stock ROM (or whatever ROM that would make my phone actually work !!! )
Can you help me do that ?

LGUP "UNKNOWN" and FlashTool failure with LG G3 (and possibly others)
When I downloaded and installed LGUP with the DLL installer stated to be for the LG G3, the program did not recognise the phone, reporting it as "UNKNOWN". The LG FlashTool also failed, reporting the IMEI and PID as NULL. After spending a lot of time on this, I twigged that the DLL file in the LGUP model directory was for the 8994 processor; but the G3 has an 8974, quite different and incompatible. I located the DLL installer MSI file for 9874 devices, uninstalled LGUP and the DLLs from Windows add/remove programs, ran the 9874 DLL installer and reinstalled the LGUP program, and everything worked.
The file is, amongst other places, on https://uptoandroid.com/download-lg-up-tool-for-lg-smartphone-latest/. Do not download DLL files for LG G4, LG V10, LG G3, LG Stylo, filename LGUP_Common_DLL_Ver_1_0_28_5 .msi, but instead For LG phones based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 SoC, filename LGUP_8974_DLL_Ver_0_5.msi:.

After Unbrick LG G3, sim is switching between detection and undetection

Hi,
Have a strange situation with my device LG G3 D855 32G.
The device keeps on loosing connection to the sim card. In the hidden menu, when I run a basic test I see "Usim - Pass" and then switched to "Fail" back and forth.
I don't get a message that there is no sim card.
This started couple of days ago, my device crashed during Android version update and was bricked (with no download mode).
I followed this thread below after downloading LGD855AT-V10e-EUR-32G.zip (tot file).
[GUIDE][FIX][DISCUSSION] LG G3 Hard Brick Recovery.
I managed to get a download mode only after restoring also Cache, System, Userdata.
Then I used LGUP to install D85530B_Global.kdz (Marshmallow).
Anyway, now the device is installed and working but there is the sim card issue.
During the unbrick process I noticed that the Main Board is D850 while the sticker is D855 (I purchased it from an Amazon seller as new).
Also, the retail box of the device show IMEI and S/N which in a look at the internet doesn't fit but the android menu show me the IMEI on the box.
Does it mean it is refurbished?
Can it be possible to install D850 and Forge the IMEI so it will look like D855?
Can it be that the device is looked after the update and there is a SIM verification issue?
In my differential diagnosis:
1. One of the partitions didn't write well when using the BoardDiag_v2.99a tool and then LGUP.
2. SIM socket issue. which not correlate to the fact that the device is new and SIM appears and disappears constantly, even with out moving the device.
3. There is a conflict of board and android version which cause a sim verification issue.
Your input will be welcome (Technical terms are welcome)
Thank you all in advance.
Insert a 4-ply paper with SIM, for me works!
You have a faulty modem installed on your device which is giving you problems.
Try flashing Modem 21C, everything works perfectly with it for me.
Use lg g3 test point on board and force it to go in qhsusb 9008 mode.
Then use smart boot diag v1.3 and its AP_CHIP folder and select d850 model in that app and select yes and yes and yes.
It will booting. Now flash last d850 rom for your country and remember to use flash tool 2014 and cse mode. And flash the rom twice.
It will be fixed.

[Partialy Bricked] H815 - how to get to stock

Hello Guys
My friend ask me for get a Lineage OS to his H815 with Nougat. I agreed as I made few successful changes from stock to Lineage OS with Samsungs and older LGs (like L3 E400). But G4 is really more complicated, more than I expected . Firstly I wanted to unlock this phone with FWUL, so I download a VirtualBox emulated image with FWUL and after it boots I opened SALT program and it detects the phone. I made a basic backup and then I choosed Unlock G4 (UsU). After that some windows pop up. Last window was a pre-checking, when the bar gets to the end window closed and nothing more was happening. So after almost hour of waiting I just turned off the phone - I thought its all. After that while phone is booting I have those messages in the left top corner:
[820]-----------------------
[870]
[920] Secure boot error!
[970] Error code : 1009
[1020[ OFFICIAL !!
[1070]
[1120]-----------------------
Its booting, but only sometimes its normal boot, most starts are with bootloop, sometimes its start after 10 restarts, sometimes after 2nd restart, sometimes after plug in/plug out USB cable it starts boot normally (connecting cable only to phone, not to PC), sometimes only thing that helps is to take out the battery. I made full wipe to be sure that its not a software problem, but only thing I achived with that is fact that phone has a Nougat and now it have a Marshmallow. It is (was?) H815, but now model name is LGLS991 (?), it gets very long until it shows software version (V20g), IMEI is unknow, even when I type *#06# I get the null response.
I can get into recovery, can put phone into download mode. But i'm not able to do anything to get LOS or a least Nougat.
I've read many, many tutorials how to get G4 working properly after unsuccessful unlock, but nothing helps. What I've tried:
1. Flashing stock Nougat for H815 with LGUP, installed USB drivers, proper DLL, set com to 41, but when I trying to flash, after a 4% i get error: KDZ file is invalid. Downloaded few KDZ firmwares, dont belive that every single one is invalid, there is something wrong with LGUP or with settings, but I cant find what
2. Flashing with LG Flash Tool 2014: tried both normal flash and cse flash and always stoping in the same moment, with "Connection to server failed. Try again in a moment". Read many tutorials about this error, none was helpful in my case.
3. Flashing with LG Flash Tool v1.8.1.1023 and a TOT file, but after select of dll and tot file and press the yellow arrow I get an error: "Failed PreviousLoad()"
Tried all this methods on second computer but without a luck.
What else can I try to get this G4 working properly? Maybe try to install some rom from stock recovery? But which rom will be ok and dont get things worst?
If you need more info dont hesitate to ask. Would be very greatful for any advices .
you definitely didn't read enough... go to read again the UsU thread and as you've read the whole tutorial, you can also read the whole FAQ and the OP, because 90% of what you pointed out in your publication (which incidentally is in the wrong section) is explained there.
A quick advice: Don't try to flash any KDZ/TOT again.

LG G4 H815 on stock 5.1 simplest upgrade to 6 or 7

Hi folks,
Back again after a long absence...
I'm in UK, just bought this phone (from China)... looked good, even though old now and seems good so far.
But, some apps that I want to use won't run on 5.1... some that I would really like to have will run on 6, others may need 7
LG Bridge identifies the phone, recognises that there's a software update available, downloads it and starts the software install but the update gets to 9% then fails, with message "Phone cannot update"
I've enabled Developer options and USB debugging
Build number is LMY47D, Software version = H81510h, Security Software version = MDF V1.1 Release 5
Checking for 'Software Updates' through 'Update Center' on the phone returns the message "Your device is up to date"
From reading several threads here, it looks like there may be a couple of possibilities: the laptop I'm running LG Bridge on only has USB 3.0 ports - one of the threads said somewhere "USB 3.0 will not work". Is that true? Anyway, I'll try LG Bridge on another laptop with USB 2.0
If that doesn't work, I guess I have to use LGUP which will wipe all the data on the phone (so I'll backup first) - I think I can do this without having to root; I'll check whether I have to go through the OEM unlock process described here
That thread is from 2016, though, so if any of that is now out of date, I'd be grateful for any advice, links to most up to date info, etc.
I'd like to get to Android 6 with mimimal hassle / risk / wiping of data, then see if I really need 7
Many thanks, in anticipation,
Ian

Hmmm... other laptop is all USB 3.0 too
A bit more info from LG Bridge, which failed again:
-----------------------------------------
There is an update available
Model: H815
New version: H81520P (06.28.2018)
1.65GB
-----------------------------------------
Phone reboots to Download mode - shows Firmware Update screen, which sticks at 0%
LG Bridge:
- downloads the software update
- update fails again with 9% on LG Bridge update progress screen
- reports "Your phone cannot update"
- suggests: disconnect USB, remove battery from phone, reconnect, retry
- doesn't work
- LG Bridge won't close, reports 'software is busy'
- process has to be killed in Task Manager
Download LGup. Download the h815 20p KDZ and flash it by lgup.
You could download 20p from here for example:
https://leech.binbash.rocks:8008/stock/LG/h815/20p/
--> h815_20p_ARB0_0314.kdz
Thanks steadfaster
Still a bit stuck though...
I've tried a couple (I think... maybe more..?!) different versions of LGUP I found...
Definitely LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi, and LGUP_Dev_Frame_Ver_1_15_0_6.msi
That last one didn't work as it required registration and login
Phone was recognised first time in store version 1.14 and upgrade process started:
---------------------------------------
LGUP[H815] store version : 1.14
Upgrade selected
File Type
Bin File
h815_20p_ARBO_0314.kdz
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Stopped with Error:
Error Code = 0x2000,
TOT antirollback version is smaller than the device version
I've been reading various threads for several hours today, and trying various suggested solutions, including:
- adding a 'common' folder to LGUP in Program Files (x86) and copying LGUP_Common.dll there
- downloading something called Uppercut.exe which Norton prevented from running, identifying it as malware..??
- changing properties of the Port the phone is connected to
None of which have worked; I got the 0x2000 error on one attempt.
LGUP now doesn't see the phone 'properly'... comes up as 'Unknown model' and 'says' I have to connect a known model before it will do anything...
So, a few things to check:
Do I run LGUP in windows? (I think I read somewhere it's specifically designed to run on Windows)
Which version of LGUP should I install and use? [A known good link would be really helpful ;-)]
Do I connect the phone (USB / MTP) while it's running normally, or boot it into download mode first? Took me a while to even get there... and that also didn't work...
Many thanks for your time and expertise

Yes the dll is needed to make lgup work. There are various threads here including proper instructions (iirc)
I've read several more threads here - after searching for everything on LGUP - and taken a few steps trying to get this to work... no joy so far:
- restored Windows 10 to state before I originally installed LGUP... to be certain I do it as described here, installing LGUP_8994_DLL_Ver_0_0_3_23 first then LGUP 1_14_3.msi
- downloaded and ran uppercut.exe with LGUP (I had to disable Norton autoprotect to do this as it (mistakenly..?) identifies uppercut.exe as a heuristic virus
Doing this means LGUP sees the G4 H815 correctly: it was seeing it as an unknown device before I took these steps
Ticked Refurbish in LGUP, but couldn't select the .kdz file... Refurbish was looking for a 'Tot' file
With the phone still connected (MTP and USB debugging enabled)
- selected 'Upgrade' in LGUP
- loaded the file 'h815_20p_ARB0_0314.kdz'
- failed at 9%, with 0x2000 error

Seems I might've run out of options here... wondering if I need to go down unlocking route... maybe try FWUL --> SALT --> next steps..?
I need to go back to your original SALT thread, steadfaster, to remind myself of the steps, but can I still install stock ROM (h815_20p_ARB0_0314.kdz) if I go this way..?
Or do I have to go with a custom ROM after unlocking..?
So I'm looking at using SALT in mAid (and maybe I'm being a bit dumb here, but I think it's just ignorance in its true sense) but I cannot suss out how to get mAid installed onto a USB flash drive... nor can I see a version 4 of mAid, which would be called mAid rather than FWUL, so I'm not clear which version / which file I should be using anyway..?!
Just used Rufus to burn FWUL_v3.1_x86_64_persistent.img onto 16Gb USB drive... let's see...
--> installed that FWUL_v3.1 onto USB
--> booted successfully..! (no surprise to you, I imagine, but I was v. pleased to see linux running on this laptop )
--> started SALT, connected phone in DL / firmware update mode: saw phone, lots of details, incl. ARB version = 2
--> KDZ button: message comes up something like: "To flash firmware use KDZ + Flash option" but I can't see or find that, so I stop for tonight (getting late), plus I can't access my internal drives through FWUL, it's asking for authentication and I don't know what's required...
--> copied the .kdz file (h815_20p_ARB0_0314.kdz) onto the USB

FWUL 3.2(!) is the latest supported FWUL version. 3.1 has issues especially with SALT which cannot be updated on FWUL 3.1. So either use FWUL 3.2 or mAid 4.0 which can be found beyond the nightlies link in the OP.
The FWUL thread explains how to flash FWUL / mAid: install and start balena etcher.
If rufus worked then good use it - just keep in mind it is not tested nor supported.
Also consider joining one of the support chats which you can find in the FWUL thread (Telegram or Matrix)
Got myself into a bit of a muddle but I've worked through and sussed a couple of things out...
(First lesson: it really does pay to read more..!)
I hadn't understood the difference between persistent and forgetful - obviously hadn't read enough of your FWUL thread, i.e. the FAQ in post #4 - so couldn't work out why it looked like balenaEtcher was trashing my flash drives, making the free space unusable..! Sorted now, and have FWUL3.2 forgetful.
In any case, I've booted from USB versions of both mAid and FWUL 3.2 today
=> I haven't managed to work out how to access unencrypted data partitions on a HDD on the laptop I'm using (Windows is on NVMe SSD)
=> I copied the h815_20p_ARB0_0314.kdz file onto the USB drive that I'm booting FWUL 3.2 forgetful from, but couldn't see it in FWUL file manager...
=> SALT connects and gives the detailed info re the phone that may explain why I haven't been able to flash firmware update with LG Bridge or LGUP
=> I still don't see an Extract + Flash option in SALT - should I..?
SALT gives these details re the phone:
Device model = LG-810
Firware (laf) = H81010o
Firmware (system) = LGH815AT-00-V10h-GLOBAL-US-AUG-17-2015-ARB02+0
Carrier: ATT
Country: US
UsU: no
GPT compatibility: H811
LAF protocol: 1000001
Battery level: 100
AntiRollBack: 20 (not sure if that was 2.0..?)
(plus IMEI and Serial)
- Does the fact it's actually an H810, with ARB 2 explain why I haven't been able to update firmware..?
- Do I have to unlock now to be able to update..?
- Or try different firmware..?
Many thanks for your help with this...

open the file explorer and you should see your windows disk in the left panel. click on it and it should mount (asking for the FWUL/mAid login password which is always: "linux")
> => I copied the h815_20p_ARB0_0314.kdz file onto the USB drive that I'm booting FWUL 3.2 forgetful from, but couldn't see it in FWUL file manager...
the USB stick is fully managed by the OS and so you cannot use it to copy data etc. use another stick or usb hdd disk or access your windows drives (see above)
> => I still don't see an Extract + Flash option in SALT - should I..?
yes and no. The "Extract" button for KDZs is there always. Flashing not. SALT is not meant to be used by the average user to flash. there is a way when needed but as it is dangerous it is not enabled by default

yea congrats! you have won.. this is a so called "Frankenstein" device! Pls take the time to read UsU FAQ #21. when SALT shows h810 like it does it is at 95% a H810. to be 100% follow that FAQ but usually it is as it is shown.
this is bad in many ways: no one actually can say what the guy did with your phone, for sure flashing another bootloader stack to make it boot etc. but what else? nobody then that human knows. this can have a lot of site effects later!
> LAF protocol: 1000001
that means you could use SALT for flashing if ever needed. if you flash MM for example this will increase to a higher number where SALT cannot flash anymore
> AntiRollBack: 20 (not sure if that was 2.0..?)
you have to switch to "develop" in SALT (thought I had said that?!). Read the SALT faq how to do that. After that the ARB should show up correctly (in your case just "2").
this ARB + model and LAF firmware all together results in 100% that this device is NOT a h815. if its really a h810 stays at "only" 95% though
> - Does the fact it's actually an H810, with ARB 2 explain why I haven't been able to update firmware..?
yes
> - Do I have to unlock now to be able to update..?
the h810 (assuming it is one) is not able to unlock officially. the only avail method is by UsU. If you want to go with a custom ROM then its your only option. If you want to stay stock.. well hard to say. as said above anything you do normally to a G4 might not work or break things in a Frankenstein.
For example you could try flashing a H810 MM ROM and see if LGup let you do that or not. again that might make things worse and now that it is clear that your ARB is blown (never the case for a h815) you have to ensure that you do not flash any ROM with a higher ARB then 2. Otherwise you will not be able to unlock by UsU if you ever want to do so.
as you can see there are no clear instructions how to proceed. all depends on your own risk level and what you actually can live with. assuming the device is a h810 you could unlock with the h810 UsU files and then work with that device as it would be a h810 (i.e. flashing h810 ROMs). Will you have any issues that way? No idea.. its a Frankenstein
in any case I would recommend before doing ANYTHING ELSE - regardless of what (UsU or not, other stock ROM versions etc) - DO A SALT BACKUP! Start SALT -> Backup -> Basic. This contains all required files needed for restoring essential parts of the system (e.g. bootloader, modem etc) but not the Android ROM itself. If you wanna backup that too choose "custom" and select everything except "userdata" and "cache". that one will take way longer obviously and you need enough disk space ofc. again it is good having access to your windows drive or if that does not work another USB stick/disk.
Last but not least: SALT -> Advanced menu -> Debug log -> UPLOAD button: this is the most easiest way to share the SALT log which is a good idea usually.
Excellent..!
Thanks a lot for all your help with this...
I might just put up with it as is for now, since the reason I got this was as a cheap replacement for a Xiaomi A2 lite which the touch screen stopped working on - so I've recently spent two weeks with no phone which wasn't a disaster, but inconvenient... maybe wait until I get that Mi repaired then decide whether I want to try one of those possible routes.
Thanks again... I bought you a drink..! (donated on your server)
