Zoomed video as default in all apps? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

1. Some apps seem to not have the ability to pinch to zoom video. Is there a way to have zoomed in those apps?
2. For apps that already support zoomed full screen video, is there a way to set that as the default?
Thanks!

No way around this annoyance!!?!

Unfortunately some haven't offered that feature.

Is there any fix or a way around camera rotation when uploading?

This is super annoying, I tend to shoot video/pictures vertically, because I like to just use one hand. It seems that when I play my gallery back through the phone, the picture looks right, but when I upload it to facebook and etc, the video or picture is rotated sideways.
I hate having to go into PS to re-rotate it back, is there a fix or a setting for this?
facebook should auto rotate pictures to the way they were taken. Either there is a problem with your facebook app, or there is a problem with your phone's gyroscope, and it's not recording the correct orientation in the exif data of the picture
Thanks for the reply. Hmm, it seems that it has always been this way. But I do notice that facebook does have a rotate option upon loading a pic/vid.

[Q] Choose area to be pictured?

Hi,
I would like to know if it is somehow possible when using the camera to choose only an area of the picture to be photographed? I know you can crop a picture after having shot it. What I want to know is if it is possible to choose only a definite area to be pictured, so already from the camera interface as a preprocessing step.
The reason is that I want to picture graphics in a book but I would like to selectively photograph only the graphic without the residual text on the page.
Does anybody know an app able to do that? Thanks

Click to collapse
Use the zoom feature of the camera to zoom in only on the graphic?
Otherwise, there are a bunch of camera apps in the Play Store. Maybe one of these allows cropping before capture:

why video apps do not utilize the entire screen?

Slingplayer, Xfinity, MX player etc...aside from Google Play movies, I have not found a video app that uses the full 6" screen. Slingplayer and Xfinity leave what looks to me to be over 1/4" of the screen on the right side blacked out. Is this universal or an issue with my phone? Is there a setting somewhere I haven't found to force full screen for video?
I am completely stock 8.1 at the moment...I don't think I should have to do something via adb like forcing immersive mode for something like being able to use my whole screen to watch video???
thanks for any and all input
I think this has to do with the apps themselves being updated to support the aspect ratio. As of now some apps support it and others dont, in time they will update.
It's likely because our screen is 1440 pixels x 2880 pixels (an 18:9 ratio). Most video conform to the regular 16:9 ratio. Because our screen is slightly wider than traditional, there are basically three options:
- Leave empty space as unused on the left/right side of the screen, which is default for most video apps that would otherwise be full screen. The video remains properly proportioned.
- Stretch the video to fill the screen. This would cause slight distortion on the video.
- Zoom the video to fill the screen. This causes you to lose a tiny bit on the top/bottom of the image, and might result in a tiny tiny bit of loss-of-clarity. But the video remains properly proportioned and unskewed. You can zoom in on YouTube videos with a pinch gesture to see this in action.
I'm sure that some more apps will likely adapt similarly to YouTube, but it may take some time.

Video player with integrated zoom

Hi guys,
The original video app does not allow the pinch in - pinch out to zoom in the videos, am I right? I can see an option that messes up the aspect ratio, but no zooming.
The pinching thing works great with youtube, though. Do you use any video app that works with the zooming options without messing up with the aspect ratio?
Thanks!
Use MX Player https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad
You can pinch in and zoom to get the perfect balance or keep clicking the button in the bottom right corner to get to the crop option (same as YouTube)
Thanks for that, exactly what I wanted.
Cheers
I´ve also used VLC player, it let´s you choose between different aspect ratios

Fullscreen

Hello everyone,
I did some searches on this and all I can find is i have to pinch the screen to zoom, problem is with apps like youtube and hulu the zoom cuts off the top or bottom of the video.
Is there a way to get fullscreen without cutting off the video?
I went into settings and fullscreen display but no apps display in there
