Flashing official Jelly Bean factory image

I own a GNex from Vodaphone Spain and all I want to do is network unlock it but keep it as close to factory status as possible. If I flash the official 4.1.1 image from google, will I still get OTA updates?

So I would have officially done nothing since I'm already running on 4.1.1 right?

Flashing a ROM, bootloader, recovery, or even a new radio won't network unlock your device. The files responsible for the locking of the network reside in a different partition (called EFS), that can't be modified by flashing something. It needs a different hacking of which I personally don't know anything

Yes but I need a rooted rom in order to access that partition. I have unlocked phones before. But, in lieu of what you're saying. Theoretically speaking, if I were to unlock the bootloader, flash a rooted rom, network unlock the phone, and the restore it to factory settings with google's image, the network unlock should still be in place shouldn't it? And I should get my OTA updates.

Cannot Seem To Install Custom Recovery. Rooted And I THINK Bootloader Is Unlocked

Cannot seem to install custom recovery. Rooted and I THINK bootloader is unlocked.
Hi everyone, I'm in dire need of help.
I believe my bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted using the one click method. But no matter what I do I can't seem to get a custom recovery installed. Please help me and advise me on what to do.

After you unlock your bootloader the splashscreen when booting has a WHITE background, not black. Unless you have seen and replaced the splashscreen then you haven't unlocked the bootloader and you can flash until the cows come home but it won't do any good...

Ah you're right. My bootloader isn't flashed after all. And even that isn't possible for some reason, neither the unofficial or official way is working
Oh my God, I don't know how but the official bootloader unlock tool just worked! Victory!

Congrats, just be aware now though that you are without warranty and won't be on the OTA list from ASUS...

Official unlock tool or XDA unlock tool?
Once you unlock using ASUS's tool it removes you from the update server or so it has been said...
You can still download from ASUS site and flash through recovery but it generally don't get OTA's...

Having an unlocked bootloader does not interfere with accepting an ota, root, exposed , TWRP recovery and any other alteration will cause the ota to fail.

You have to reflash stock. Root and TWRP will cause OTA updates to fail.

Why would you take a chance and end up hard bricked? I gotta bang my head against the wall as you already have TWRP installed and you can flash my nougat stock 7.1.1 rom which has the July 1st security update.

Oreo Update unlocked bootloader

Do I need to relock the bootloader and go back to stock recovery in order to receive the 8.0 update?
Not sure. I think that once you have unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP, you are unable to receive any more official updates, I could be wrong though.
Hopefully not lol
You will receive OTA as long as you're not rooted, this is usual with basically every phone.
