Verizon branded note 8 on straight talk, can't receive text or voicemail notification - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Extremely looooong story short. 3 Sim cards later from straight talk, no help from their tech department beyond factory resets and/or it's Verizon's fault.
I can't receive texts of any kind, but can send them. No voicemail notifications. I put my wife's sim card in the phone from her s8+ (tracfone splash screen but Verizon branding?).....And it receives texts just fine. My sim in her phone same problem...Not receiving texts. Data and voice work fine. I assume it's bum sim cards? Please help!

Also....forgot to mention .....with a previous sim card they had sent me last week I was out and about and all of my missed text messages came pooling in all at once. Then later on they quit working again. I live in a very well covered area so I can't imagine it has to do with towers, as I previously mentioned my wife's phone has no issue at home with the same type of sim. I have switched between the network types several times, gsm LTE, global and such with no luck.

Which APN are you using?

Go to your APN settings. Add this one:
TRACFONE.VZWENTP
This should solve your problems . Delete any other APNs you have listed before that and save the one I gave you.

That's the APN I'm using....as far as I can tell it's the morons at Straight talk.....I believe it's the sending out outdated sim cards coming from the warehouses. I bought a Verizon sim card from Wal-Mart and the circuitry is visibly different from the one I got in the mail, yet both of them are cdma (verizon) compatible. The same packaging and everything. After another hour on the phone with straight talk it's I working. Receiving texts and voicemail notifications. Now I can't use mobile data while on the phone, but this seems to be a setting in the phone itself that Verizon has set up....not sure. Any input poeople?

Flash the unlocked firmware and call it a day. I have at&t straight talk and I'm using a Verizon note 8 on the unlocked firmware. I couldn't get anything to work on the Verizon firmware

"Can't be completed as dialed" using Tmobile prepaid

Hey guys, I picked up a T-mobile galaxy S3 over black friday, and have been trying to use it with wifi calling for the past few days. Here is what is happening: I updated to 4.1.1 as soon as I opened the package. I setup the phone and then tried wifi calling. It worked the fiirst call, but later when I put dial in the number, within 1-2 seconds I get a "Your call cannot completed as dailed" message. I couldn't even dial 611 for customer care, but I could call my voicemail.... So after talking to customer service, I was told a new sim card would likely fix the problem, so I went to a T-mo store and got a new sim. They tested it once there, and it worked for the first call. I got home and it was doing the same thing as before, telling me my call couldn't be completed as dialed. On a whim, I put my wife's postpaid T-mobile sim card into the S3, and lo and behold, it worked, every time, flawlessly. I switched my prepaid sim back into the phone and it reverted back to not working again. I called up T-mo and talked to someone who finally referred my case to some engineers, but its been 3 days and I haven't heard back.
If I lived in a place with a good T-mobile signal, I wouldn't care, but I get less than 1 bar, and my data is edge, so I kind of need wifi calling. I've noticed when first booting up with my prepaid sim, I sometimes get the Reg99 cannot connect erorr, and the Err01 "Invalid certificate" error. But then the wifi calling later shows connected with a blue phone symbol saying it is ready to make calls.
I can sometimes receive calls over the wifi, but I can never make calls, only to my voicemail. I find it odd though that my wife's postpaid sim works just fine, every time, but my prepaid doesn't. Even though they are both the latest sim model number TM9190 or whatever.
If anyone has any ideas or solutions to this, please let me know.

I'm guessing my issue is a very rare one. I don't really see Nything else on the forums about it. Anyone have any guesses? Or anything I can test.

[Q] MMS on SIM 2?

Hello all,
I just got my ZE551ML Zenfone 2 (US) on Friday and have been running it through it's paces. One of the big benefits for me was going to be the dual sim functionality. I was looking forward to using my work SIM in slot one (since it has a big data plan) and my personal SIM in slot 2 (for personal calls, texting, etc.). I have been unable to get my personal sim in slot 2 to send or receive MMS messages, however, which may be a deal breaker. I've tried adding APN's, but they disappear after I hit save. Has anyone managed to get MMS working on SIM 2?
Anything that requires data on the second SIM will not work as it's not supported. In short, no MMS and no internet in SIM 2. Only voice and texts work.
Only SIM card slot 1 can access 3G/4G/LTE data. SIM card slot 2 can only be used for 2G service which include voice and basic text messaging (Not multimedia messaging services MMS or internet browsing).
Sincerely
ASUS_USA

But WHY!? Why no mms option?
It has never been written in any specification of the Zenfone 2 that sim 2 is not data ready.
It is explicitly mentioned 2G including Edge and GRPS...
i.e. 2G does not mean no data but only slow data...
Asus is hiding this information and this is a fault.

Agreed. Asus should explicitly say, "only voice and sms, no mms" -- since many non-tech oriented people don't think of mms as something that uses data. 2G does indeed communicate *very slow* data to people, not, "no data at all, including MMS."
Same issue. It is configure conflict. Reset apn to default then make a new one for your provider and use that one . Delete other one.
Deleting or resetting APNs will not allow mms on sim 2. Sim 2 only supports voice and text.
Yes I agree with u. The mms is looking to sim2 because of apn misconfigure. I use strgth tlk wth att. When I put in att sim it configures apn for att . Apn must be configured for strght tlk to use att. A new apn must be made and used. If u reconfigure att apn an internal mess up seems to occur.

It seems this issue is with phones that are unlocked and the person is installing their own sim provider. All presetup phones from asus don't have this issue

I didn't see they are using 2 sims. Most post of the mms on sim2 issue are a single sim user. Thought this was one of those. Sorry.

AT&T Incoming Call to Voicemail. AT&T users I need you help

I need AT&T users to test this for me. On my wife's 5X on AT&T it seems like every call goes to voicemail first but if you call back it will ring. Could someone test and see if they are getting this? If not do you know how to fix? Thanks
I'm receiving calls just fine on mine. I'm on att trough net10 though so I'm not sure if that's different.
I'm on AT&T and no trouble receiving calls for me.
So odd, spent some time with att on the phone. My suspicion is that when a call is coming in since we do not have volte it drops to h+ which has a weak signal and goes to vm... When will att allow volte for not att phones?! Thanks all
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
if you haven't yet, I would reset/flash as new without sim and then reinsert sim and go through setup as stock. No google voice or hangouts or forwarding and see what happens.
my 5x hadoffs between lte and h+ happen a bit depending where I am at my house, and I don't have any problems. MY last thought is check airplane and do not dusturb, but still. I would start at the beginning.
maybe you've already done this.

I also have AT&T, and no problems receiving phone calls. I had to get a new SIM card when I got the phone (nano SIM to replace the micro SIM that I had used in my old Nexus 5). I noticed that the APN that was the default on this phone is "ATT Nextgenphone", instead of the "ATT Phone" APN that my old Nexus 5 used. The old "ATT Phone" still shows up as an option, but I figured that I'd just leave it as is (on the "ATT Nextgenphone" APN. I don't know much about it, but from googling around, I believe that this APN is for VoLTE. (http://developer.att.com/technical-library/apns/apn-descriptions-and-characteristics). Might want to check APN settings and see if you can change it to Nextgenphone.

Thanks but hers is also on that apn. I'm going to send it back to google and try a different unit. According to everything I have read VOLTE is only available on AT&T if you have their specific phones. I hope that changes soon but if I'm wrong and you are getting VOLTE please tell me. Of course the easiest way to test is to turn off wifi and while you are on LTE have someone call you and see if it drops to H or H+ or if it stays on LTE. Thanks!
I am am also having this same issue. People trying to call me are getting call failed messages and they have to dial 5 or 6 times before the call actually connects. I did you get a solution?

Text message w/o pic on Verizon Sim2

Bought 5t a few days ago, just found issue on Sim2 Verizon. I have ATT on sim1, Verizon on sim2, set sim2 as default data, text, voice. I understand is 3G CDMA for Verizon. When someone sent text message with pic to Verizon#, I received text w/o pic.
Then I remove ATT from sim1, has Verizon in sim2 only, I got pic with text!
Put ATT back to sim1 and set data default, sim2 Verizon voice/text default, received text only, no pic. However ,text with pic received when sent to ATT#.
Anyone has same issue?
Try using Verizon's message plus text app. It works even over WiFi and may solve the data stream issue.
If you need to get sms from both lines and message plus doesn't get the att then try something like Textra. The issue is that MMS needs the carrier data connection.
It does work! Thanks
I have the same carriers in the same slots and Textra, but AT&T as data and it's in a 3T instead of 5T. Everything works awesome(haven't noticed the lack of band 13, guess I'm lucky that my area uses the other Verizon bands). Only bummer is when I MMS comes through on Verizon, it's kills my AT&T until it finishes downloading and then goes back. But not that big of deal since Verizon is my work number primarily for calls. Wish there was a fix for this. But I can't give up root, stock Android, dual SIM and unfortunately Verizon is chosen by my employer. First world problems. Wish 1+ would just stick band 13 in there!!!! It can't be that much more expensive.

I got 4G working on Verizon!

To preface this... I still cannot make calls, as those use CDMA, but I have data. I use google voice for calls anyway, so having no cdma is no skin off my back. This will probably work for the Pro or Mate 20
What I did:
Through Verizon chat, I requested specifically that the agent put in a request to add my IMEI to their database. I told them I know the device isn't supported and that I won't be able to make calls, and I am OK with that.
I added this APN information: https://apn.gishan.net/en/apn/verizon/huawei-mate-10
I turned OFF carrier aggregation
I then put in my tmobile sim for a week in the other sim tray, turned off the vzw sim, and let it sit for a week. I only enabled the sim slot a few times throughout the week, and today it finally worked. My guess is it took them some time to add the IMEI to their database.

I'm interested in using the Mate 20 X on Verizon too and also use Google voice but I see the Mate does not support LTE B13 700c. Is that an issue?
