Wireless charging - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I had a Pixel 2 non XL, but I returned it because of the screen issues. I'm planning on pre-ordering an S9, but I'm a little worried, because I have read a lot about wireless charging issues on the S8 and Note 8. Do you think they fixed this in the S9?

Don't know if it's too late to help, but my son has an S8 and no problems with wireless charging. My S9 wirelessly charges fine on both a regular and a fast wireless charger.

I never had any wireless charging problems on my S8 plus, and I have no wireless charging problems on my S9. I guess everyone's experience can be different though.

[Q] Q: GTP 8.4 Wireless Charging?

I've been searching the interwebs and went to the Samsung store at Best Buy (mistake) and haven't been able to find a concrete answer.
Does the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 have wireless charging? Qi? Actually any of the new galaxy tab pro line?
The back is not replaceable like other galaxy devices so an aftermarket replacement back with wireless charging is not foreseeable correct?
Thanks for anyone who can help!

It does not have wireless charging. It would take a week to charge it even if it did.
I remember having the Palm Pre wireless charging puck and yes, it was slow. Even doing other things while having it wirelessly charge (watching a movie, playing a game, tethering) would slow the charging rate down to the point where it would actually discharge because the power drain was higher than the charging speed LOL
I had wireless charging on my nexus 7 and loved it. Yes it was slower but it was nice to not have to fiddle with USB cables in the dark. Batteries usually last the day so I just had to put it on at night. If bought 2 Nokia Qi chargers at att when they were on sale for $25. Now they are just collecting dust.

I have a G Pad and have a QI USB wireless charger receiver, basically plugs into USB and stick the coil on the back plate with sellotape haha!
The great thing about this is it can work on phones that don't support QI.
I have got a case off eBay to hide the receiver (it still chargers great) through the case.
I'd say the maximum charge distance was maybe 5 - 7 mm.
It is slow. About 13 - 14% an hour. (Stock was 9%)
I drop it on QI pad at night and its 100% when I get up.
I sometimes put it on when I go out and whatnot. I love it!
I can deal with the charging rate, because its a lot more convenient, I'm one that fiddles with USB cords haha!
Still use USB for phone but converting to full Wireless slowly.

Wireless Charging Issues

Has anyone experienced issues charging their GS6 Edge+ with Samsung's Wireless Charger (EP-PG9201)? I own two of these and used them with my GS6 Edge (non-+) without issue. Picked up the Edge+ yesterday and charging is erratic on both pads. I see that other users have reported similar problems (see below for links), but none of the comments proffer answers that I find acceptable. I am most interested in hearing whether you think this might actually be a hardware issue that is effecting some of the new devices (but not all) and whether I should therefore replace my phone while still within my 15 day window with T-Mobile. Responses from those with both the Edge+ and the Samsung Wireless Pad noted above would be greatly appreciated. I will also note that some users have experienced problems with the phone not recognizing the OEM Fast Charger (I do not presently have this issue) and am thinking that perhaps that the fast charger problem and the wireless charging issue might be somehow related (e.g., perhaps there is something wrong with the power circuitry on these devices). See below for more details on the wireless charging issue.
In short, more often than not, the phone simply doesn't charge. It connects to the charger for anywhere from 15 seconds to 5 minutes, then disconnects and the Samsung Wireless Charger blinks blue which is code for "hey buddy I'm not charging there is something wrong". Per other XDA forums, this problem also appears to be creeping up with the Note 5 (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/wireless-charging-issues-t3185669/page2
The most notable rumor/response is that the older charges simply aren't compatible with the Edge+, and that we are all supposed to wait until the new Samsung charger (see: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EP-PN920TBEGUS) becomes available. A lot of people who took advantage of the Best Buy free Samsung charger deal (which came with the older model pad that I have) are now getting told by both Samsung and Best Buy that the deal included the wrong charger and they have to wait for the new one. I have trouble swallowing this as an acceptable response because the phone is supposed to support both Qi and PMA wireless charging STANDARDS out of the box, and therefore compatibility shouldn't be dependent upon using a particular generation of wireless chargers so long as they support those standards. From what I can tell, the new version of the Samsung pad is notably different in only one regard -- it sports faster conductive charging so they are adding "Fast Charge" to the device branding.
A YouTube user captures the problem in a video (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfiGk6C3Yso), and the video comments note that the problem is not just limited to the Samsung charging pads. Other users who commented on this video claim to have contacted Samsung and were also given the "incompatible charger" response.

I believe it is the charger and not the phone. I use a cheap lukalake wireless charger and no problems at all with it. I did put my phone on the Samsung wireless charger at the tmobile store and didn't see any problems with that one either but I wasn't able to keep it on the charger for 15min which is when the problem starts to happen as people have stated here
Itan charger here with no issues when placed just right on the charger. I have ordered a different Itan charger that has three coils so that placement should be easier.
That thread is speculative as well and just confirms that something is awry.

Inclined to agree that yes, perhaps it's just a terrible charger, but it worked flawlessly with the GS6 Edge. Obviously the + has different coil locations given its size and perhaps the old Sammy pad just struggles with it. A shame because I invested in two of them.
I had posted in similar thread about this. I have an edge plus and bought the wireless charger same day. I spent 2 days with the blinking blue light. I called Samsung. Tech support told me they could send me a new charger. I told them it was a fairly widespread problem and I do not think that was the correct action. I asked for a supervisor and after a few minutes she told me the plus is not compatible with the current wireless charger. For the plus you need the soon to be released adaptive/fast charger. If you look at the wireless charger box, just about every new phone is listed as being compatible EXCEPT the edge plus. I returned mine and am waiting for the adaptive to be released

I have the newest fast charging samsung pad and I am having the same issues. I have to remove my case and it usually takes 3 attempts to place the phone correctly before it will charge When I use a cheap 9.00 charging pad it works instantly and charges fully no issues..I think the problem is the samsung charging pads.
Will the fast charging pad work with the Samsung thin plastic bumper case made for this device?
I just ordered one of these which hasn't arrived yet. I'm just wondering why that if my Galaxy S6 came with an adaptive fast charger for the house, then why don't they have the wireless charging pad version?

Choetech Wireless Fast Charger

Got this to use with my Note 5 but have had success using it with the Nexus 7 as well. I have a video here
https://goo.gl/SHlM2Z
I have multiple wireless chargers. $3 cheapies, Samsung OEM, Spigen 3 coil wireless, and now this. This is by far the best one out of all of them. Just the fact that it has worked fast charging is great because you don't lose the charging speed that typically comes with wireless charging.
I tried this with a Note 5, S6, and a nexus 7. Worked well on all those devices with zero issues. The charger is heavier and feels sturdier than the other ones I have. I'm guessing whatever is inside to enable fast charging must be a pretty dense set of components.
Not sure if it's 3 coil but connects without issues every time. So far I haven't had an issue of having to mind it around to get it to connect. Tried with and without cases and haven't noticed a drop in charging time.
Definitely picking up a second one to leave at my office.
Hi,
does it mean that the fast charge is available with the Nexus 7 ?

Looks real nice

Solve Your Fast Wireless Charging Issue

I used lots of wireless chargers and fast wireless chargers. Most old fast wireless chargers worked well on my old Note 5 and S7E, but didn't work for my new s8 and s8+. Some stopped after a short working, while some never worked. Even my old Samsung fast wireless charger did that issue. I felt very frustrated. Then I bought a new CHOETECH stand fast wireless charger and got it received yesterday. Luckily, this one "fast charge" well on both my S8 and S8+, as well as my Note 5 and S7E.
I found many people have the same issue, so I share the stand fast wireless charger link here: https://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-Wireless-Charger-Charging-Qi-enabled/dp/B010B6PSMC/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Samsung Galaxy 8S Wireless Charging Issue Solved?
Use a Samsung Fast Wireless Charger with the Galaxy 8S phone with an Otter Box case. When I first got the phone charger worked fine with the phone in the Otter Box case, which has a rubber skin. Began having issues after 4-6 weeks and began removing rubber skin of the Otter Box case. That may work for a while, but recently had to plug the charger in the phone to charge it. I noticed that all issues seem to disappear if I leave the wireless charger unplugged while not in use. If I only plug it in to use it, then I can lay the Galaxy 8S with the Otter box case on the charger with no issues. I wonder if a charger is succumbing to some EMF resulting in some week capacitance affecting the wireless charging. MMMM. Glad it seems to work....for now.

Heat issues?
Yes mine has stopped working as well. The night i had it on the charger it only charged 20 % and both the phone and charger were hot. I have the samsung fast charge with the padding. It only worked for a month. Called samsung and doing a warranty exchange. Gonna sell the junk once i get the new one.
Anyone have any experience with either one of these? They look like they same charger, just rebranded.

Did you do a warranty exchange for the phone or charger ?
I have three chargers and starting yesterday, none of them are charging my s8.
I factory reset and still does not work. Cable charging does work
It does not even recognize being On the wireless charger.
Samsung says I have to send in the phone.
Any suggestions? It is only 3 weeks old

If you have a thick case then it might not charge. Try without. But yeah i did a warranty exchange. Make sure you have proof of purchase and call the number on the box. I told them that my phone only charged 20 percent last night and was very hot both the phone and charging pad. And also tell them i have tried on my wifes or whom ever you want to say, wireless charger and it works just fine. Just so they dont give you crap.
I bought it from them 3 weeks ago!!! Just a week over the exchange time so I have to send it back.
Is it still waterproof etc when you get it back?

I've purchased the Pleson and it works great. I have a Spigen Neo Hybrid with no issues fast charging.
The best thing about the Pleson is it turns off the LED charging indicator so you're starting at a bright green nightlight all night long.
Highly recommend it.

I've had previous models that would stop fast charging but continued slow charging. I can't explain it... but if I unplugged the charger and waited a minute or would start fast charging again.
Not sure why this works...

Wireless Charging LG G7

Background :
One of the reasons of getting the LG G7 was placing it on and off (for top ups). I did not dwell (yet) into getting a separate wireless charging pad (and I haven't really been charging it much that ways yet either). I stumbled upon my lost Samsung Wireless charging pad which I used extensively on the S series earlier (unable to post link as I am a new user). Please google Samsung EP-PG920I Wireless Charger.
Questions and Concerns :
I once started charging it wireless from 3% or so and observed that suddenly it would stop charging on its own. It would not start charging again until it was lifted and placed again and again in some time it would stop charging. I thought it might be a one-off issue and tried to do the same the other day and it did the exact same thing all over again the next time as well. I'm assuming it has something to do with the charger pad. I did read somewhere that the phone has its cut off if it reaches a particular temp while charging and wondering if that is what is happening ?
Has anyone here faced the same issue ?
Is anyone here using the wireless charging option extensively and have no issues whatsoever ? If yes, please specific make / brand / setup in use for charging. Also please specify if the phone has been successfully charged say more than 50% on wireless.
Looking forward to discussions on the same.
I don't use wireless charging.. But from what your describing, it might just be time, to purchase a newer one.. I would hate to think, that the Samsung works only with Samsung.. But nothing would surprise me these days..
Bump!
No one using this feature ?

I don't have any issues with it. Are you sure that the power brick is providing enough power. It should provide at least 5V 2amps in order to work. I use the stock brick to power my wireless charger. If it's not that go to a retail store and find a wireless charger to test on.

Appreciate your response. I used my stock g7 adaptor on wireless samsung charging pad. So it is basically pumping out as much as required. Not sure if it is the charging pad which is at fault for not able to handle it maybe ? (Which actually is not its fault?). Pls post details of what setup you are using without any issues. Unfortunately, I havent seen any big retail (or small) advertising or even having wireless charging pads on display for me to walk in and check this out. In India this concept has not caught up and not many are interested in this feature. Many might have the option but still not use the feature.
Your EP-PG920I doesn't support Qualcomm QI charging at all. It doesn't support even new Samsung devices like S8 or S9, it supports S6 and S7 only.
Samsung supported at that time only WPC 1.1 standard and no Qualcomm QI. That's why EP-PG920I isn't full compatible with your LG 7.
I have no problem with QI charging. Use any 15W QI certified fast wireless charger like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H783993/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZgejCbRN366QD

Much appreciated with the explanation. I guess I have a better understanding of this now. So while it does actually charge it is not the recommended way and the issue faced is because it ultimately breaks midway as not fully supported cause of the limitation. I will give one of the better chargers and the QI certified fast chargers a go.
I use original Samsung Fast wireless charger, model is EP-NG930BBEGWW. Its connected with original Samsung S7 fast charger. This wireless charger work without any problems with S7 Edge, S6, S9+, and G7. In specs: FAST CHARGE (Compatible with Galaxy Note8, S8, S8+, S7, S7 Edge, Note 5, S6 Edge+) / Qi (Compatible with Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Qi certified devices). Only "problem" with G7 is it charging slow. Very slow - from 5 to 100% maybe 3+ hours. But this is no meaning for me, I charge my phone at night. I read G7 doesn't support fast wireless charging. Here in other thread people said support fast wireless charging, but it isn't.

Just like the case in mine it may be working but not completely. From the specs I see it has a max output of 1000mA that may be the reason for slow charge (i guess)
Yes charging slow but I don't have your problems with charging. Stop or anything else you write. Maybe you have to get other wireless charging pad.
