Unboxing/Review: PITAKA MagCase for Pixel 2 XL case and Car Mounts - Google Pixel 2 XL Accessories

I received the PITAKA MagCase for the Google Pixel 2 XL along with the car vent and suction cup mount. I have an unboxing, overview and review of PITAKA products.
The MagCase is really thin. I have a Caseology Parallax with Seidio Holster and with the MagCase int he Seidio, it bounces around. That's how thin it is. It's as if the phone is naked. I also have the Whitestone Dome Tempered Glass installed and the screen protector and case work well.
I have a Seidio dash mount that comes with thin magnetic plates like the MagMount. For the Seidio magnet plate, I sandwiched it in between the phone and the Caseology Parallax case and it works with the MagMount without a problem. The same for the MagCase with Seidio dash mount.

what screen protector do you have on the pixel?

Whitestone Dome Tempered Glass. Only the best!!!

Thank you for the review! I purchased this using your referral link. I received it yesterday and I must say, I'm highly impressed with the quality and how sexy it makes the phone look. It's got a nice, non-slip feel and you won't even notice you have a case on.
Do yourself a favor and splurge as I promise, you won't be disappointed.

I've gotta ask as I just came Across this case. Does it have more of a soft plastic feel like that of the old Motorola phones? (Droid Maxx etc) or more of a slippery plastic feel like the most others?

I thought videos were supposed to all external links lest we turn our house of den of self advertising Myself I would much rather see links to YouTube instead of seeing the video's all over xda, I mean if we don't stop now don't we already get pounded enough on us in advertising. Just saying...Right. ?

Has anyone used this with a case? The amazon reviews on this are awesome, but there isn't very much information on how well it fits with a case on it. Can someone that has it measure out the max width of the clips?

I will measure it tomorrow, but I have a Diztronic case and it fits fine. The suction cup on it is amazing too, very stable.

Awesome. I actually went ahead and ordered it. The amazon Page says there's a 3" max width, but one of the reviews also said that there's a lip on each of the clips and I'm wondering if that gets in the way. But if your case fits fine I shouldn't have any issues, being that I'm using the Case Mate barely case.

Here is a imgur album I just threw together, can't find a damn ruler.
The 3 cases I have are the Otterbox Commuter, Diztronic TPU, and Incipio Feather
http://imgur.com/a/w8obO
The otterbox is very snug, and I might not fully trust it on a real bumpy road, but otherwise there is no problem with the others.

Lateral or Vertical Belt Case?

Does anyone have experience wearing the HTC One on a belt? What would you say is more comfortable/practical for everyday use (including at work), vertical or lateral style? I wore vertical for smaller phones before, but not sure with HTC One since it's pretty big,
On another note, does anyone also have experience with fortte? Seems to offer a lot of custom choices, such as a snap-on closure or Velcro. More importantly, they offer a choice between a fixed metal belt clip (leather), belt loop, or a heavy duty removable ratchet clip (made of plastic). Which belt clip/style would you recommend?

I had some cases from Noreve.
And all I can say: clips - evil!
Belt loop only.
I use the otterbox defender to protect the phone. It works great. How ever the belt clip sucks. I have been looking for any belt clip that will work. Please help.

Good vertical case from ebay
I recently bought my HTC ONE and I have always used lateral belt pouches. Coming from HTC EVO 4G LTE is about the same size. I purchased a full body protectors like the ones from zagg but also on ebay and I have the vertical belt leather pouch which I was impressed of the quality and for 18 bucks and change it is really worth it. Here is the link to the pouch I got from ebay. I use this belt clip every day regular use and at work. I work in an office and sitting down for 8 hours with this belt pouch on does not bother at all. I guess it all depends where you wear your belt pouch. I usually wear mine just behind the front pockets of my pants. I would not wear anything in front or forward of my pockets because is uncomfortable.:good:

Edit: I have bought some other belt clips on ebay that states that are leather and good quality but after 3 months they start to peel off and the clips will start to come out. So far this one looks top notch build.

I love it, it works both vertical and horizontal I use it on my belt at work and hang it on my pocket on my Jeans on the weekends. It is snug and sturdy and has a decent kickstand.

I have always had vertical cases/pouchs before. I just got a hortizantal one. It is OK but I would prefer to find one that fits vertical.
The one I got was item 251337384318 on Ebay. It is a Rieko brand. The phone fits great with the otterbox Commuter. There is a little extra room in the case but not so much that the phone slides around. The case appears to be of good quality.
I am not affilated with the seller, I just wanted to let people know that this pouch will work.
Here is the ebay description.
"This XXL size case will fit your Samsung Galaxy S4 or S3 with a thick hybrid such as the Otterbox Defender or Armor series,or Ballistic phone cases
High quality PU leather pouch with velvitine interior that will protect your phone from scratches
Durable belt clip with added belt loops for extra security that will attach to belt or purse.
Easily accessible with magnetic closure.
Compatibility: Fits the Samsung Galaxy S4 or S3 (Universal for all carriers) with a thick hybrd case such as the Otterbox Defender, Armor, or Ballistic series. Also fits the Note 1 / Note 2 with a single layer protector.
Inside Dimensions: 6.0" x 3.4" x .65"."
I wear mine horizontally. Vertically is too long when you sit down and makes it awkward to grab at depending on the holster. Mine is from Platinum Series bought at Best Buy. Had the same one for my HTC One X and loved it. Latch is spring loaded so it is secure when it's holding the phone and easy to release/snap back into. Take a look into it, it's only about $40 for the case and holster combo.

Platinum case and holster is pretty good, indeed. But if you get the one with a kickstand, your compass won't work (magnet in the kickstand), so beware (there is a case without a kickstand, too).

Leather Cases

Would be great everyone can share the findings of leather cases for the Pixel 2 XL here...
So far I am aware of two
Belleroy - https://bellroy.com/made-for-google
-----------------------
Quite expensive, doesn't cover all sides
X-Level - https://www.amazon.com/X-Level-Vintage-Premium-Leather-Protective/dp/B0768JJ272
-----------------------
No volume cutouts, poor quality where inner material is visible.
I bought this case.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074CK7TFP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
ripped out the crappy pvc case ans super glued in the Spigen thin case.
https://www.spigen.com/collections/google-pixel-2/products/google-pixel-2-xl-case-thin-fit
So far its holding up and feel good in the hand for fake leather.
I bought the Torro premium folio leather case very nice and sturdy
Got this guy to creat a 2xl case for me.
I already got one for a p10 that is just perfect.
Waiting for the 2xl to be delivered..

Sorry cannot post links, but search etsy for twoneedlesleather a guy in Australia

the 2 best pixel 2xl cases

To be brief, I purchased 6 cases. Each had its advantages. The best case is the Spigen Tough Armor case with built in kickstand. It is a dual layered case but you can insert and remove the case while both layers are intact. Great protection and styling. Buttons are nice. Not too thick. I wish the side edges were smoother but I can live with it. Got it from ebay for about $17.
My 2nd choice is the Diztronic tpu case. It is thin and light. Nice to hold with a matte coating. Screen is protected by the edges. Styling is nice and simple. Buttons are fine. Not as much protection as the Spigen case and no kickstand but I like it's simplicity.
It goes for about $13 on ebay.
I like to switch off between the 2 cases.
Just wanted to post my thoughts.
The first pic is the Spigen Tough Armor
The 2nd pic is the Diztronic. It may also come in a hard version.
Thanks for giving your opinion, there are too many cases and little ranks ;D
If you want a tough case; the Otterbox Symmetry is amazing. It has the standard Otterbox protection, without all of the bulk of a Commuter case. It's a nice looking case without all of the cartoonish angles and lettering. I like it better than the Spigen Tough Armor (which is a very good case, BTW). I was able to pick up a black Symmetry case on Amazon for $19 (prime).
There are literally dozens of cases for this phone. The one I want and can't find is the Zizo Bolt Series for the 2 XL. I've seen the reviews on that case - and I'd love to have one. They make them for the standard Pixel, the Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3 / 3 XL.... but I haven't seen one for a 2 XL - which is odd.
If you happen to find one, please link it in this thread.
Thanks
Im all about the Spigen Case, Its been a great case for me so far.
I've been using Diztronic for a long time, at least since my Nexus 4. It is hard to top. We got the Spigen Tough Armor case for my wife's Galaxy S7 and discovered it was too thick for our car vent magnetic holder. I assume same issue with Pixel 2 XL version? I was able to snag a navy blue Diztronic before it fully went sold out, unfortunately on back order though so who knows, currently says Arriving Tuesday on my Amazon order.
In the meantime, I have a Spigen Thin Fit. It freaks me out as it is really too thin on the screen side. it is a good compromise for folks that dont want a larger case though. It also has a built in hole for my magnet for my vent mount.
Only recently got my Pixel, but I have a history of being quite fussy about cases, as well as being stingy!
I bought a slim plain hard back cover, which was fine, but then found this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caron-Fi...var=553503155444&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
It's honestly perfect. covers everything except the screen, but adds virtually no bulk, you almost can't tell it's a case. Doesn't mark or fingerprint either.

Does it cover the bottom as well? Can you share some pictures? And how much does it weigh?
It's absolutely perfect. Weighs virtually nothing. Looks like its part of the phone. Covers everything but the screen.

This is a brilliant cover
Bought one of these - cheap, feels really nice, makes the phone non-slip, stops it sliding out of your pocket. Shame it doesn't cover the top and bottom, but it's still a great case, and different from most

Case and holster combo?

I've always used a Seidio Surface case and holster on all of my previous phones, but noticed that they have gone out of business. Does anyone know of a company that is or will be making such a combo for the Pixel 5?
They're expensive, but I've used a Quad Lock case in the past. I used the bike mount with great success, and they have belt clips too. They're rock solid and cannot be accidentally removed from their mounts.

I finally have my P5, bought this case, and have ordered the Google wireless charging stand. Does it work with wireless charging?
While this is a great protective case, it's too bulky for my taste, the dust cover over the charging port is a pain to fold back to plug in a cable, and the phone release clip on the holster is very hard for me to manage with one hand.
I've been searching but haven't found anything close to the Seidio Surface case and holster I've used and loved on my previous phones. I've seen a couple similar ones for other phones, but not for the P5. If anyone finds one, please let me know.

At first I thought the holster lower prongs stuck out a little too much, but after using it a few days with the ultra hybrid case, I feel they make it easier to insert the phone. It's a secure and smooth phone insert and extract.
