upgrade firmware 2.41.401.4 specific question - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hello, I want to update the firmware from 2.41.401.4 cid_34 s/on to the latest oreo one.. I have a custom rom right now.. and want to understand what my options are
. Should I update to a version like 2.41.401.41 and then update through ota/manually to oreo firmware? Can I flash immediately the latest oreo based firmware? If I flash the RUU I am back to stock? Thank you and hope this helps others with the inquire. Couldn't find this specifically through google/xda.

Going to Oreo you should wipe data so the best and cleanest way to do this would be to flash the 2.41.401.41 ruu. After flashing this RUU your phone will be completely stock. After that just take the OTA to Oreo. If you want to flash a custom ROM you will have to flash the latest twrp followed by ROM.
RUU can be found here.

Thanks so much both of you, I was on 1.53.401.13 and was having a nightmare trying to update my phone using windows!
I put the rom on my SD card and updated, just waiting on the OTA update now. Very very happy and relieved it all worked fine!!

[Q] Are OTA updates important even though I'm running a custom rom and recovery?

I have an international model HTC One M8 and it's currently rooted with S-ON, has TWRP installed and I'm using the ARHD Custom ROM.
I know to receive OTA updates I need to be on stock rom and recovery but is there any particular need to get these updates?
ARHD is updated quite often and I usually just dirty flash and sometimes clean wipe and flash the newest version of the ROM. Will I get all the updates I need through the rom or do I need to reflash stock and stock recovery and get OTA updates before flashing the newest version of the custom rom?
Also, a side question. Should I S-Off my phone? Are there any benefits for a regular user such as myself?

If you're happy to update when Mike releases a new version then just go with that - he uses the new OTA to update his ROM so you'll be getting the same benefits. Just make sure you flash the new firmware package to get the FULL benefits of the new update (new radio, kernel, etc)

So on the downloads page of ARHD website (sorry can't post outside links yet) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694917
Say there was a new firmware update and a new version of ARHD to match. I would go to the firmware collection link and browse through to get a zip of the latest firmware, flash that first and then flash the newest version of ARHD?

Yeah, when ARHD 7.0 comes out (based on 1.54.401.10) then it'd work best with the corresponding firmware package

5.0 and kernel

OTA will upgrade your firmware. If 4.4.4 has rolled out for your version, go back to stock ROM and recovery (if not so already) and you should be able to OTA.
You likely won't be able to OTA direct to 5.0, unless you OTA to 4.4.4 first.
Ok, but i forget the most important things on my first post. I have unlock my bootloader and i'm on viper 2.5. So i think i can't get Ota since i'm on custom ....

HTC one m8 three UK help

hi eeveryone, I have the xtc one m8 branded 3 UK, unlocked, and wanted to know if the official Lollipop update is out yet from 3, as for a technical reason (s-off), I have to wait for the official firmware update to 4.xx before updating (if I remember now I'm at 3.xx)
because i have on board an unofficial ROM, I don't want to risk to go back to official just to find out that 3 UK has not yet released the update. Technical help on the 3 UK website is basically useless...
many thanks

To answer your question, yes .. 3 UK already on lollipop with version no. 4.20.771.2
hi again, long time since.
i would like to upgrade my phone to latest lollypop as it is starting to playing up a bit and need a bit of help. been reading on various threads but i'm a bit rusty on how to do it. just done a nandroid and titanium backup of current rom if things go wrong.
at the moment this is what i have
CID H3G___001 (three uk)
- custom rom android revolution hd 22.1
- android 4.4.4
- baseband 1.22.2133xxxxx
- build n. 3.28.401.9
i found this nadroid backup for my phone,
2.22.771.5_ckpv5.zip
would it be alright to just flash this in recovery, then get official fw update OTA and then, when on the latest fw, reflash the latest custom rom?
or should i flash
One_M8_3.28.401.9_odexed
thanks for your help

What is your hboot number?
Does it say anything after OS on the bootloader screen?
You need the stock nandroid that matches your firmware (hboot, etc.). Then after you restore that, install the corresponding stock recovery in order to OTA. After OTA, install TWRP again, and the desired LP custom ROM.

This won't help you. Its the unbranded Euro stock ROM. You need the 771 stock ROM, to match your CID in order to OTA.

If it's the Stagefright patch update for lollipop it's better you didn't find it before S off because I've read their having problems getting S off with this patch applied. If your talking about updating from kit Kat to lollipop it should still show in your phone as an OTA or in HTCsync when you hook your phone to your computer for backups. To update though either way you'll need to reflash your stock recovery and unroot. Luckily with S off I'm pretty sure you can leave your boot loader unlocked when flashing stock Rom unlike those with S on. HTCs site should have the stock zip for your model to download. We do in the U.S also. but it's in the RUU format. Then you just download the zip and flash it using ADB/fastboot but first you'll need to first find and flash your stock recovery I believe then unroot then flash stock zip.
thanks for repplying but it started to find updates again, guess it was maybe server issues or something

Update

I am a newbie from Sweden. Got help with rooting and installing twrp v2.7.0.2
Want to change my android 4.4.3 to 6.
What about firmwere?Does it come together with a new rom. Think I want Wolla or LeeDroid.
Please help!
Take your time and read..
Every rom has instruction on what minimum firmware is required.
Leeroid is great, you wil need to be on 6.xxx firmware for best results..

No, firmware is never flashed with a ROM. And 4.4.3 firmware is too old to run any of the current ROMs. So you need to update firmware.
It would have been best to update firmware while still stock, as you will need to go back stock in order to OTA and update firmware. That is, unless there is an RUU for your version M8, in which case you still need to relock bootloader RUU to update, then unlock again, and flash TWRP again.
