Fingerprint not responding - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

My S9's fingerprint reader sometimes doesn't react. Neither does it unlock nor does the swipe down function work.
In order to get it working again, i have to reboot my phone.
Anyone else with that problem?

I got this for the first time today

Bobbed into samsung store which has the Apple equivalent of the genius bar he said there is a update coming out Friday for unlocked devices which hopefully will sort the issue out and if it then continues then it may need a replacement but seen as so many of us are having the issue he thinks it's software related fingers crossed

I had this issue once yesterday. Fingers crossed.
I hope it's software related as I really the phone.

It's a known issue, even some youtubers and reviewers addressed this. Apparently it can be fixed by turning off finger sensor gestures.
So obiously its a software issue, lets hope that Samsung will fix it asap

It happened to me 3 times now. Really annoying. Firest time I thought I didn't set my lock parameters correctly then the phone suggested a restart. After this, it happened again, and now, reading this I feel relieved.
Waiting for the update.
Regards!

you're not alone people!
same goes with russian unlocked S9+

I had this happen to me at least once a day.
Getting annoyed. Thinking of exchanging my set.

Popped in here just to check, as this keeps happening to me to. Hope the fix is out soon.
Had a similar issue on my Pixel 2 XL. Switched to the S9 only to find the same thing happening

I hope its a software issue.

I have the same issue and it's mostly when the battery drops below 20% approx.

had the same issue on my g9+ and my girlfriend has the same on her s9... also tried factory reset, but it didnt help.. :/ we sent s9 back to samsung.. so we are waiting to hear something from them..

Disabling swipe to open notifications via scanner works.
Update have just arrived. Installed- shall see soon whether it works or not

I've updated today to the latest version and it seems ok so far.

I have pre-ordered SGS9+ and FPS is faulty since day one. I have read Android forums and tried all solutions along with disabling gestures.
Sadly it still behaves like pice of sh!it.
Cheapest Xiaomi that lies on my shelf has blazing fast sensor that never failed. Samsung one rarely works, finger recognition is below any criticism.
And yesterday's update haven't fix anything related to sensor only the face and iris. Seriously I'm waiting one more week and I'm returning it.

My finger print doesn't unlock myphone when screen off. I have to use "intelligent scan" to unlock. So did you return your phone?

I am getting the same issue. Came from LG V20 where fingerprint was in the sweet spot. Never had an issue it instantly unlocks my phone. S9+ is driving me insane with the 2 step unlock.

Backlight sometimes doesn't turn on when unlocking?

Has anyone else had this with their G Pad?
When you knock on, or use the power button, the screen will turn on (you can see the lockscreen, unlock and run things etc) but the backlight looks to be extremely dim or not on at all! Locking and unlocking brings it back to normal, and there's no issues using the device at all after this, just this random occurrence occasionally. When I say occasionally, if I was to lock and unlock constantly to test the issue, it'll happen maybe once every 10 tries. So far I've only noticed it when I go to unlock it after being locked for 30+ minutes.
I know there are bleeding issues and blue line issues and the likes, but I've not seen this one before. Just don't fancy it being a duff unit!
I have a similar issue... With my device this only happens if I try to turn it on immediately after the screen goes off. It seems to me more ROM related than a hardware issue, but I can't say for sure.

Yeah, the more I see it the more I think it may be software related, but reluctant to do a restore on the tab in-case it's a wasted venture. I still can't find anything online, but mine is defiantly more likely to do it after longer periods of time. Had it three times in a row yesterday morning!

I have had this since day 1. Though I have also been custom romming since day 1. I can't remember if this happened on stock. But would love to know if these units are defective or if everyone get this.
stock rom same behaviour
Hi just in case someone is still wondering, i have a stock g pad and it shows the same behaviour... sometimes (especially right after locking) when i unlock the backlight doesn't come on. Locking again and unlocking works in this case.
Same here, was happening on stock and it's the same issue on Mahdi rom now.

Unfortunately not! I've got rid of the G Pad now (barely used it after a time. ) but after getting a IVSO cover for it which locked/unlocked the tab for me, I rarely saw it! I turned the pin/swipe lock screen off too as it was a faff to open the case and then unlock the tab, so maybe turning security off did it.
Thanks for the reply I have a feeling its a ROM issue. Mine did it yesterday so I tried an experiment and stuck it on charge and it instantly went to normal brightness. If it was a hardware fault I would have thought it wouldn't alter no matter what.

Got a LG G4 yesterday, having touch recognition issues.

Hey so I got an LG G4 yesterday and started noticing the screen not recognizing all of my touches, especially the double tap to wake and swiping from the edge of the screen. I have to tap twice very obviously, at a certain pace and deliberately hitting hard; otherwise it takes multiple tries to get it to work. Even then it's still not 100% accurate. I did get my first ever glass screen protector with it as the Telus employee recommended it so I'm not sure if it might be the cause? I don't want to peel it off as it was like $30 and if I peel it off and it still doesn't work I'm out $30 if I decide to return the phone.
I tried using an app someone recommended on here for changing the responsiveness of the screen to no avail. I also downloaded a touch testing app that definitely shows the missed touches all over the screen every few touches. I'm wondering if getting a replacement could solve my issue or should I be looking at choosing a different phone altogether?
Thanks!
Why did you bought it without testing the phone.. I did go to store and install every software i know and check everything then i got satisfied and bought the phone.

It seemed fine checking it in the store, I assume a product to work, not be cynical and assume there'd be issues. I also hadn't heard of the touchscreen issues as all the reviews I saw said it was awesome, period. I'm just trying to hear from people whether this could just be a lemon or is this really widespread?
Try to factory reset the phone..

Sensors not working

So, I bought the Huawei watch in November 2015 and everything was working fine till Thursday last week. Thursday is when I bought the new HTC 10, so I had to factory reset the Huawei Watch in order for it to sync with the HTC 10. After doing that and syncing with the HTC 10, I have noticed that none of the sensors on the watch work anymore. By sensors I mean pedometer, heart rate sensor, gestures etc.
I have done a factory reset several times and also tried pairing and syncing the watch with other android phones, still the same result.
Can someone help me please, as this looks like a software problem as the watch has not been damaged or anything and it was working absolutely fine before I did the factory reset.

Yep, it still did not work, I just sent it back to Amazon for a refund.
Must be a software glitch. Mine started acting up a couple of days ago. At first I noticed the screen would go to sleep although I had "Always on" on.
Today I noticed that neither the pedometer nor the HRM are working...
Same here.. for few days already hrm pedo and gyro? Not working. Never installed an update tho.

Has to be a software glitch if many people are facing similar issues, all the hardware sensors cannot just go faulty all of a sudden.

Any solution to propose or did it just start working again on its own? Mine's sensors are still dead...
i just did factory reset using the recovery. then after that still not working. then tried paring to other phones. 3 phone to be exact, then it started working. im pairing it to the original phone now no issues again so far.

Nope, never. Always remove it before showering. It's supposed to be waterproof to 10m as well.
I think it has something to do with the latest android wear update, since all the issues started around then (for me it was May 19th). It cannot be a coincidence that everyone's watches started going wrong around that date.
just restart your watch then try again.
I have already restarted/factory reset the watch many times to date and still no luck.
Me too sir how i can do for make it work again
Dear all concerns ,
Now , my watch can touch and i just install to 6.0.1 version but i can't using Heart rate sensor and another sensors anymore How i should to do ?
Thank you so much for kind support
I have the same problem, the sensors do not work. Some solution? Restart factory settings I have done several times. Thanks

Last I have seen that Huawei has made a deal with Samsung to use Tizen. They are not happy with Google not letting them customize Android Wear.

I know it is a problem with the android wear app. Does someone know how to fix it accept to the returning solution?

Unresponsive touch screen...

Has anybody noticed an intermittently unresponsive touch screen after the latest OTA? I haven't had any problems since they fixed the original problem way back when.
It goes completely unresponsive and I have to reboot several times to get it to work until it stops again. I'm assuming this is a hardware issue on my end since I haven't heard anybody else talking about it but I just wanted to make sure.
I think I will try a different kernel and/or ROM to see what that does.
Hi,
I have the same issue here, it started a few days ago for me. Up till today I just had to reboot but now it seems completely blocked... I will try again later but this is becoming really annoying
.
I had the same happen to me about 2 months ago. Happened around an OTA.
In the process of trying to replace it. Tried flashing recent factor images but no luck
I've had exactly the same issue as described. Hardware buttons work fine, but no response to touch. Started intermittently and got progressively worse until there is no touch response at all.
The first time this happened, I contacted google support, and they arranged a replacement. That was in June.
The replacement device has now developed the same fault, which progressed in the same way as the first device.
Just got off of the phone with Google support, and my second replacement is now on it's way.
Fingers crossed for 3rd time lucky.
Same thing...
This has started to happen to me -_- replacement is on its way. Doesn't seem like the problem is being fixed more or less just addressed...

Ditto here. Just received "refurbished" (was actually new--factory wrap, unopened) replacement unit two days ago. Had my initial Pixel C about 10 months with zero issues. Then, a couple weeks ago, touch responsive became spotty, typically cured by putting tablet to sleep and waking. Progressively got worse until no touch response whatsoever. Physical buttons worked fine. Factory reset, tried flashing prior OS versions, etc. Nothing worked. Stock / unrooted.
But, Google customer service was very cool about the replacement.
How were everyone able to contact Google Support? I have the same problems with the touch screen, but am not able to find a way to contact Google about it. I had bought mine straight from Google Store.

Top right hand corner, "contact Google" > https://support.google.com/store/troubleshooter/3070579?hl=en
I had the same problem after an OTA Security update yesterday. Booting into recovery and erasing cache fixed it for some time, then problem reappeared. Can be fixed by repeating the procedure. Seems a software problem to me.
Same problem. I can't even get it unlocked now as nothing registers.

I guess this is just a hardware issue because it happened to me twice and both times Google provided me with a new tablet. The only advice I can give you is to contact the support because in my opinion nothing can be done at our individual level...
Will they still replace out of warranty? Purchased Dec 21, 15. Tablet had been flawless until yesterday.

Hmmm I highly doubt it, but you can give it a try. Did you try to factory reset yet, just in case?
Yes, initiallyit was slightly working as of Wednesday and I factory reset. No change, but it registers no touches now so I can't even unlock it.
Google is getting me a replacement so I thank them greatly for that.

yeah, google did the right thing by shipping a replacement, bill3508. i just hope whatever hit your device is isolated.
2 issues I've come across lately with my Pixel C tablet:
1. Touchscreen unresponsive
The tablet has lost touchscreen responsiveness. When I touch the screen, nothing happens. Buttons pressing ok - it works.
I have connected the device to the PC by Vysor app. Using a mouse from PC I can manage. I tried diagnostics in programming options (I've turned on show touches on touchscreen and localization of the pointer) but no touches detected however mouse moves yes.
Rebooting didn't help - many trials. Safe mode neither.
I haven't done a full recovery to factory settings yet. I am afraid of loosing USB debugging mode. Looking foreward to finding software resolution before warranty replacement.
2. Power button doesn't light up the screen - possibly backlight fault (software?)
After few trials with power button the screen shows up. Sometimes I try reboot but the problem returns. It is randomly, sometimes after one pressing power buton, sometimes lastlky after few trials withe few rebooting.
When I put the tablet on light (a lamp or sunshine throug window) I can see the view of the screen darkly. So there is the view but without brightness.
Android 7.1.2, N2G47D
I have the same problem now.. However I've noticed the following: When the device is in the case which covers the screen and has a magnet, the problem will persist. If removed from the case and left for a day outside, the problem is gone (so far at least). I will return the device for a replacement and hope google can replicate the issue. Anyone else using a case with a magnet?
Yes I have the same problem and also a magnet case. But for me the problem is not gone, after removed from the case and left for a day outside .
Now I get a replacement from google.
Should I now no longer use a case with magnet? Is the case the reason for a broken pixel c?

Problem with moto z play fingerprint sensor.

Hi
I am facing a strange problem. Sometimes fingerprint sensor doesnot work. On touching no vibration and screen does not unlock. I have to press power button, enter the pin and unlock. After that it will start working.
Anyone facing same problem?
Any solution to this?
Is it hardware problem or some configuration issue??
No such problems on my MZP , try to remove registered finger prints and add them again - or make a phone reset . Or clean finger print sensor with dry cloth .
Faulty fingerprint sensor
I've had the same problem with my Moto Z.
It eventually stopped working completely and was no longer showing as an option in the Security menu.
I sent it for checks/repairs and got a new device sent.

How many weeks/months did it take to fail completely?
My Moto Z Play also requests the pin every now and then. I thought it does that because of all those modifications like Xposed and screwing with services and receivers...

Three or four weeks I think... It gradually became worse.
It completely failed a few days after the end of my 1-year warranty, but after explaining to Motorola that this was going on for few weeks they agreed to fix/replace it under warranty
