Can I flash firmwares from another region? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Hello, so recently I got the A3 and noticed it's from Italy (language of first boot, manuals etc), however I'm in Greece... Normally this shouldn't affect Anything (and plus it's nice that Italy got Feb 2018's patches while Greece is still on Jan 2018's) however there is one app that installed its Italian variant that wouldn't work in Greece so I had to download the app from the play store (Samsung members) and some regional settings that defaulted to Italy. Sim works fine and stuff but I'm wondering if this will affect something... Anyway the model is SM-A320FL and it's unlocked... Can I flash Greece's firmware on it? It currently has ITV firmware... Also, which variant of the Greek firmware is suitable for an unlocked phone (The EUR one I imagine)
Also, will this void the warranty
UPDATE: I flashed the greek firmware, however after being disappointed that a lot of features, mainly in the camera app were absent, I decided to reflash italy's firmware and lo' and behold all my regional settings problems were fixed! Turns out that the Sim card fixed everything... I didn't have a Sim at the time of first getting this phone so it was sort of half Italian half Greek... Moral of the story... If you set up a phone from a foreign country, for the love of God do it with your sim card in the phone! For some reason Samsung pay is in italian but that's ok I'm too young to use Samsung pay, much less a credit/debit card anyway...

I'm glad! Thanks!

Yeah you're right... I'll probably return to italy's anyway since I'm a bit disappointed a few features like the camera effects are missing..

[Q] Changing CSC code to BTU.

Hello from a newbie & sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it anywhere for the 2014 edition.
I've bought a 32Gb LTE Note 10.1 2014 edition from Hong Kong and needless to say it comes with a heavily biased Chinese version of the operating system, now having read other fora, I have managed to understand how to flash the device using Odin, however I was after a UK (BTU) version of the rom, but what I have got is the Spanish one.
OK, I have no problem with it as I have changed all of the settings to use UK English, but I am looking for a way to change the CSC code to from PHE (Spanish) to BTU (UK) so that I can get any firmware updates for it.
The one thing I want to do is keep it as near to stock condition as possible, namely I don't want to root it (is that what it's called?).
Can someone please advise me how to do this please.
Thanks.
If you know how to flash the thing, just get a Spanish firmware from sammy mobile and flash it
I've also ordered a 605 from HK. I intend to flash this firmware.
I bought the P605 from Germany and it is unlocked but T Mobile branded. Can I flash the UK firmware ?
Thanks,
Halldor

@Ben81.
That despite it saying it's a BTU firmware isn't. It's the one I downloaded and is the Spanish one (PHE), I really do wish that those who provide these firmwares ensure that when they say it's from the UK it IS from the UK and when you do the flash it gives you the correct CSC code, when you plug it into Kies.
Thanks for the info. Will probably still flash that as it'll be better than the Chinese one!
EDIT: Installed it and can confirm it gives a PHE code.

Changing CSC on A520F/DS -- a couple of questions

Hi guys and girls of XDA!
I have recently bought a used A5 2017 Dual SIM on eBay and I am in awe with its battery life even after the Oreo upgrade.
However, Samsung does not sell Dual SIM models here in Germany, my model comes from Iran (CSC: THR)
I have read the forum, but I haven't found answers to my questions.
I want to flash a DBT version onto my phone ans I have a couple of questions.
1) I have a DS model which were never available on a German market. Will Dual SIM work after I flash and will I get updates after I flash?
2) The german version of (mono-SIM) firmware, which is available on Sammobile still has A520FXXU7CRH9 baseband. I have already updated to the -I9 one. Does that mean that I cannot revert back o the H9 and will have to wait until german phones get I9?
3) My phone came with a sticker "Middle Eastern and African SIM only". Both slots work with German (and some other) SIMs as of now. Will this setting revert back and it will be locked to those SIMs, if I change CSC?
4) If I will apply the Combination CSC from Sammobile , will I get access to every region-locked option without tripping knox?
Thanks in advance!
Alex.
Anybody here? up!
I don't know the answers to your specific questions - but if the dual sim (Iran) phone you have works with your german sims why are you trying to reflash it?
Is there a problem or something that is not working?
I live in New Zealand and have an imported UAE (United Arab Emirates) 2017 A5 with dual SIM and it works just fine. I havent tried the second sim, but have heard of other people that have and it works as expected. The phone doesnt have any UAE junkware. You are right - the battery life on this phone is great. I did find the always on display uses more battery that I like though. Really wish they had an option that just turned the AOD on when you got a notification (new email/text/missed call etc) but Samsung don't seem to want to provide useful features like this. I came from a galaxy Note 2 and miss that little notification LED
If it helps, I see that the A520F and A520F/DS do not have different firmware - I have searched and there are plenty of posts on this forum where people have flashed Dual SIM hardware with the 'standard' A520F software and report that the dual SIM functionality works fine.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series-2017/help/sm-a520f-to-sm-a520f-ds-t3704566
The DS model was never officially sold in new Zealand (the single SIM model was) but I have received the Oreo update and several security updates for my phone anyway since I bought it.
Hi, thanks for your reply!

I get 26-28 hours of norml usage.
However one thing that irritates me is why it loses up to 10% over the night? Everything is closed and AOD is off, too. Other than that I had to uninstall Chrome because it literally ate up trice as much battery as everything else added up, including screen.
Not sure about your overnight power loss - sounds a litle high...
I use my phone very little and usually only charge it every 4 or 5 days.
AOD uses more power than I like (I have seen 1% an hour mentioned and that is probably about right), so I switched that off.
Really annoyed that Samsung havent made an AOD setting that only enables the AOD on when there are notifications (Missed call, new messages). I would really find that useful.
Have searched all over but cant find any apps that will do this.
For those interested, here is what happened.
1) I have a DS model which were never available on a German market. Will Dual SIM work after I flash and will I get updates after I flash?
Basically, it is the same model and the same firmware. The "normal" firmware for a non-Dual-SIM market works perfectly with a DS model and gets updates via OTA.
2) The german version of (mono-SIM) firmware, which is available on Sammobile still has A520FXXU7CRH9 baseband. I have already updated to the -I9 one. Does that mean that I cannot revert back o the H9 and will have to wait until german phones get I9?
The main thing is that ninth digit ("7") because it represents the revision of the firmware. As long as it is the same, you can flash it. If not you will get a brick.
3) My phone came with a sticker "Middle Eastern and African SIM only". Both slots work with German (and some other) SIMs as of now. Will this setting revert back and it will be locked to those SIMs, if I change CSC?
It didn`t happen to me.
4) If I will apply the Combination CSC from Sammobile , will I get access to every region-locked option without tripping knox?
I did as follows.
I flashed the DBT firmware from SamMobile and got myself a british code because it is a standard one in this Multi-CSC.
Knox not tripped. But VoLTE and VoWiFi still not working
Then I found the Combination ROM (FACTORY BINARY) with the same revision as the firmware (See question 2 about the "7").
I flashed it, dialed some USSD code. Then menu appeared from which I could choose the product code.
I chose DBT, wiped the data and cache and voila, I had a DBT phone with working VoLTE and VoWiFi otb.
Knox not tripped 0x0 !

What stock firmware can I flash on my A5 2017?

I bought my wife a new A5 (2017) from my carrier last year. The model is SM-A520F/DS. The problem is that the phone came with UAE firmware but I live in Australia. I have searched everywhere but there is no SM-A520F/DS firmware for Australia. When the phone updates it is always UAE.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem but there is no VoLTE or WiFi Calling options because the existing firmware does not support Optus Australia.
Is it possible to flash a stock SM-A520F Australia XSA firmware even though it is a SM-A520F/DS? Will it trip knox or void the warranty or more importantly is it safe to do without bricking the phone.
I rang Samsung Support and was told that because the phone had UAE firmware I could not flash the Australian XSA firmware. Seems strange. Is that correct?
Anyone?

Please research before you commit to flashing though. Let us know

I had researched and it suggested that it would be fine as the as the SM-A520F was an international version with the same hardware on all SM-A520F phones that it should be fine to flash the Australian XSA firmware, however Samsung Support told me that it would not work and Samsung Service refused to do it as it would void my warranty.
My wife has now decided (it's her phone) that she doesn't want to void her warranty so isn't interested in going any further.
Thanks anyway.

Fair enough, mate. Each version is essentially the same anyway. Not sure that maybe OTA security updates won't come through as your localel will be different to the CSC on the phone. Not sure about this though.
All the best
I heard similar things with PC bios - so it seems possible to me (unfortunately)

It is part of the Vodafone firmware . You would have to flash unbranded firmware to remove the app . Is the phone network locked ?
If its doing no harm you can leave it there and just ignore it
The phone has no Simlock :
1 x Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Plus 5G SM-N976B 256GB Aura Glow without Simlock New OVP
Will i get all regular Updates from Samsung (like Android 10) or do i get the updates from Vodafone ?
I´m confused.
Thanks
In Germany there are a couple of branded Firmwares out which are provider based.
You own a vodafone Note10+ which means you get OTA (Over the Air) Updates from a Samsung based by the provider overworked Firmware (normaly monthly).
You have the possibillity to remove the app via ADB or you can unbrand it with a open UK Firmware Countrycode BTU (no provider stuff on it).
Your current countrycode should be VD2 (Vodafone Germany).
If you are able to read german there is one big forum in Germany for android devices, take a look at android-hilfe.
if there is no simlock on the device, its also not against a law to 'rebrand' it with an other firmware.
Before starting this take a closer look here or in other forums to inform you about flashing an Samsung Firmware with a tool called odin (for Windows).
you can download the newest firmwares on sites like sammobile.com.
But don't do it hastily until you've read your way into the matter!
This is my Firmware. Could I flash DBT or DTM without problems ?
The unbranded Firmware for Germany is DTM ?
1. Don,'t know if this will work without any problems, if you can read and understand German take a look on the Android Hilfe forum there is a thread discribing unbranding.
https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/...anding-auch-beim-note-10-moeglich.929549.html
2. Open Germany is DBT (which stands for debitel, now mobilcom debitel).
DTM is Deutsche Telekom which is also branded
On the other side, all this to only get rid of one app...
Have you tried to deactivate the app under settings - apps - three-point-menu (upper right corner) - show system apps.
Then Navigate to the app and tap on deactivate in app settings
since a couple of years branding (in Germany) is shrinked to one or two provider apps.
Also OTA Updates are nearly as fast as for the Open Germany DBT.
My last action in rebranding was on an Galaxy S7 so I can not say if debranding the Note10+ from VD2 to DBT works with out problems and afterwards fully access to OTA Updates.

Hello,
thanks for all this information.
I did get a Update for the phone already. It was the Securitypatch 1. November 2019.
I have a Deutsche Telekom Sim in the phone. It works without problems .
So i will get Android 10 sometime OTA with my Telekom Sim too ?
It´s not possible to stop and deactivate this App.
Thanks again for your help.
Sure you will get Android 10 also with this card, as soon it was released here in Germany for VD2

Hello,
i looked at Androidhilfe.de and followed the instructions at the thread https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/...anding-auch-beim-note-10-moeglich.929549.html.
I used SamFirm to find a BTU Firmware (2019-10-30). I flashed it with Odin (normal CSC )
and got a clean phone.
Now my note 10 + 5g is debranded. No more Vodafone App. I´m on XEF/XEF/VOD now.
Today there was again a newer Verson of BTU Firmware (2019-11-13)
I flashed that with Odin3 3.13.3 using homeCSC .
My phone got updatet with no dataloss.
So my problem is solved
Thanks again for helping.:good:
Had a similar problem with my DTM (Telekom) branded Note10+.
Just flash the newest DBT FW with the home csc and you'll get the unbranded version without vodafone apps.
Also you'll get updates much faster.

Is there a DBT Firmware for the Note 10+ 5G
I didn´t find one yet.
I had to search a bit, but couldn't find an unbranded version for the german market.
Also it could be difficult to get 5G with a different country firmware because it's new, regulations and stuff.
But you could flash at leats the DTM firmware, so you'll get telekom preinstalled apps

Question A52s - change CSC by factory reseting with a SIM?

Hi all,
I purchased an A52s 5G (SM-A528B/DS, snapdragon version) last week. I never had a Samsung before so I’m learning now about CSC and such.
I noticed that I don’t have the call recording function even though my country should support it (ILO). As it turns out the device has XSG CSC (I guess it’s a non-official parallel import).
I gathered information around the forums and I’m trying to understand if I can change the CSC by factory reseting and doing the device setup while my ILO SIM card is installed.
Apologies if my questions are stupid and the answer is obvious, but I couldn’t piece it together.
I’m trying to avoid tripping Knox to retain my warranty.
I read somewhere that ILO and XSG are part of the same multi-CSC group (OJM) and that it should work?
I read somewhere else that it no longer works on One UI 3.1/Android 11 versions?
I read somewhere else again that samkey may be a viable solution?
So should I try just by factory resetting the phone? Or try samkey? Or?
Is there any way to change CSC on the fly and avoid having to factory reset the device?
Thanks so much in advance,
Tal
I used to require a SIM to change the CSC but was able to do without it this time.
Doesn't trip Knox. There's a list of countries that details which have call recording built in.

To anyone who might encounter this in the future, My phone was bought trough GoMobile a parallel importer in Israel who didn't have call recordings available although the official one had.
I used SAMKEY in order to change the CSC into "ILO" the Israeli CSC and it worked getting me back the recordings and even had gotten OTA's after it.
I bought an A52s 5G on Amazon UK, and the model that arrived was a Romanian one. I find two things very odd: there is nothing outside the box to indicate that the device is not a UK one (product code would suffice), and when opening the box (which was untampered, as expected) it had a UK plug charger, adding to the fact that the device was destined for the UK market. The back of the device shows a sign for compliance with UK CA standards, and booting it first time, it greeted me in English. However, soon after I figured out the shortcomings and I found that CSC is set to ROM. Factory resetting the phone with a UK sim didn't make much difference however this time the phone greeted me in Romanian. While I've resolved the issue with.. the usual method, I find it dodgy and either the seller went to great lengths to hide the originating country or Samsung is creating these devices targetting Romania but actually making them look British, for.. reasons? Both possibilities are weird.

did you succeed? do you have call recording?
For some reason I've never been able to buy a Samsung that used a single sku CSC.
Even with ICCID locked devices they always shipped with the multi-csc/multi-csc2, so I've always been able to use a SIM Card to change out carriers unless the EFS/CSC partitions blocked it partially.
And even in those couple cases, I've always been able to cross-flash carrier firmware for that device to switch networks when need be.
This method even allowed me to use my AT&T locked Galaxy Note5 with T-Mobile Firmware. The only bug was the AT&T Modem's lack of hardware support for all of the TMO network bands.
Other than that. I even bested the Geek Squad at Best Buy...
This method worked on my A32x 5G.
