fast charge issue? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Previously coming from S8 & Note 8, while playing power demanding games plugged in it would hold and charges just fine but now it's barely gaining any. It says "fastcharge" but doesn't feel like it at all... anyone having similar issue?
I been on 4% past 30mins or so while playing Lineage 2 Revolution. Sometimes, I would lose 1~2%!

I have the same issue. I am charging S9 via cable with quick charge 3.0 adapter in my car. Some times it charging fast but sometimes it discharging even in idle. I found that it can be related with phone heatup. In sunny weather phone is warm (battery temperature about 40C-42C) and phone not charging. If I put phone in shade then it start charging in 5 minutes

[Q] Battery problems: not charging when in use

My 12.2 Tab Pro loses about 10% charge for every hour in use: about right, I think. It takes about an hour to charge about 10% when not in use: rather slow in my opinion.
When I am using my Tab while connected to the mains, it will not charge. In fact, it loses about the same amount as when it is not being charged.
Using in this context is reading books (Kindle), reading newspapers (PresReader) and web browsing.
I have tried USB 3 and USB 2 plugged into a mains plug, and USB 2 directly connected to a mains plug. I have tried different cables and plugs. They all behave similarly.
Should it not charge when in use?
Are you using the Samsung charger and cable that came with your tablet?

Amongst others, yes.
I have same problem with mine. Battery can die super quick from 100%, then a restart shows it with 60% (as example) battery. Are you rooted? I've seen others with similar problems, but no answers. Thinking of sending back to get fixed

Are you charging it from the computer?
Mine doesn't take an hour to charge 10%. You probably have a defective unit.
If it takes an hour to charge 10% using the stock cable and charger, there's a hardware fault somewhere, be it your cable, charger or the tablet itself.

USB ports do not provide enough current to charge these devices. I understand that, when on, the power drain exceeds input from USB sources. I use AC with adapters rated at 2 A. I also have a car charger with that current rating that plugs into the car lighter. USB ports, whether in computers, cars, or airport lobbies are useless.
If you are using wall plug rated at 2A and are not charging, then one of the 3 components is bad (charger, cable, or phone).

I'm also having the same issue . I have left it plugged in ( wall outlet ) and off for an entire day and it still wasn't charged 100% . I am rooted .

I bought my Tab pro 8.4 in June 2014. I use it about an hour each day and charge it when the charge drops below 30 percent.
Recently I have noticed, it takes all night to charge. This should not happen. my Ipod touch charges in less than 1 hour and its an old version 3, (6 years old or more)..
I am using the wall plug that came with the unit, to charge it. It should not be taking 12 hours.
This seems to be a problem with these 8.4's.
there are a number of possible causes: bad battery, port, charger, power source, too many apps .... you might want to read this guide on how to fix an Android phone that doesn’t charge (or discharges) when connected to a power source to help you identify the cause and fix it

I have the exact same issue with My Galaxy Note Pro. It will not charge while in use and the battery drains extremely fast even with most all settings turned off and screen brightness turned down. I turn the tablet off every night to charge and the charging speed is extremely slow. I am using all Samsung OEM cables and chargers. Ive tried USB 2 & 3 cables with no noticeable difference. I am going to do a factory wipe and then closely monitor the power useage. Im starting to think that there is an issue with the Note Pro based on the sheer amount of users reporting the same or similar problems.
If anyone has figured out the culprit behind this issue, please pass it along!
Battery indication issues
I have the same problem with charging the Note Pro 8.4.
After some investigation and multiple tries it seems very much that the reported battery level is not in line with "reality".
It happened numerous times that while the tablet was on and charging, the battery level did not go up or only 1% every hour or so. After reboot the reported battery level was much higher.
I decided to throw some apps from the tablet which vastly improved the battery level indication and more or less seem to work as expected. I know from previous experiences with my Note 2 that some apps/widgets can wreak havoc on very basic functionality like charging. For example the stock picture frame widget on the old Note 2 had the effect the charging icon did not update. After reboot of the phone it was much better. Removing the widget solved the problem.
All in all carefully check installed apps/widgets on the Note Pro (8.4) because the firmware does not seem to cope well with certain apps/widget combination whatever that may be...

Oem charger heat up the phone?

I just bought an use xl. The oem accesories were never used seems he was charging the pixel mostly in his car. Now im using the official oem charger and cable and heat up the phone like crazy. It does say rapid charging but even the time went up to 3 hour estimated time to fully charge which is crazy. Now using a galaxy s7 edge dock charge and some spare usb c cable i had the phone does not heat up,. Charge in quick charge and it take like an hour and 20 minute to fully charge..... Im i missing something here?
Charging time left is not static it changes with temperature. If your phone is already reached 42 45 degrees which generally correct it slows down charging. And also it heats up if you are using your phone during fast charging intervals which is first 20 min. Also even when you don't use it, it heats up because of wake locks (charging). Also i realize a hot climate is a factor. For oem charger it can reach 3 amps so it is normal for heating and most other chargers supply less so it does not heat up. Soo it is like a design problem you can charge your phone super fast but it will heat up so charging speed will vary but i think in the end it will still quick enough.
Why do you think they advertise quick burst charge instead of quick full charge ?

Wireless charging stops at 100% and wont restart

HI can anyone tell me if there is any way to resolve this. I think is has started since doing the upgrade to Android 10 earlier this week.
I normally put my phone onto the wireless charger before going to bed and I have noticed recently that when I grab it in the morning the battery percentage is sitting around the 90% mark. I initially thought the charger was not able to charge to 100% but on further examination I see that it indeed charged to 100% after I placed it on the charger and then the charging stopped and the phone ran on battery until I removed it in the morning.
I confirmed this this morning by replacing it on the charger and watching it charge (like watching paint dry ). The charger light was blue while charging, when the phone hit 100% the charger light turned to green but after about 30s it completely switched off and so too did the indication on the lock screen that a charger is connected. Removing and reseating the phone started charging again.
It definitely looks to be software related as I did not have this problem last week. I just wanted to ask if anyone here has noticed this and knows of any workaround?
For the record I am running fast wireless charging with the samsung wireless charger that came with my wifes S8, that charger works perfectly with my older Note8. I have also tried switching to normal wireless charging speed with no success.

Unplug the charger from its power source and plug it in again, causing it to 'reboot'. Let us know the results. Note, there is an option to set the wireless charging to NOT be fast during certain hours of the day. I set mine so it charges slowly while I am sleeping - to put less stress on the battery. Your charger may be a little old as well if you got it with a note 8 or S8 - ?

IMO this is a good feature to stop the wireless charger cooking your battery.
Maybe turn down your AOD brightness or something, to use 10% within a couple of hours of being idle is pretty high. Maybe turning off fast wireless charging would extend the charge time so it finishes nearer to when you wake up could help too.
Thanks for the feedback however it does sound like workarounds for an issue that should not be present (apart from rebooting the charger which I will try when I get home).
For me wireless charging should act just like wired charging in that when it reaches 100% the phone should essentially run off the charger now and not use battery at all. Every other phone with wireless charging that I have had worked that way, this is just plain stupid.
Willhemmens its not a couple hours, looking at the battery graph if I go to bed at 10pm and put the phone on the charger it pretty much hits 100% around 11:30 and then is at 90% at 7am, so it is 10% over 7 hours which is ok in my books, but reality is that during this time the phone has another source of power that it can and should use. It did before I applied the Android 10 update.
I have had this issue every now and again, and I found that rebooting it takes care of the issue.
An update. This morning I tried my wife's wireless charger and when the phone reaches 100% it continues to show the charge icon. Put my wife's note 8 into the wireless charger and it exhibited my problem.
So it looks like this is a problem with the wireless charger and not the phone.
Thanks for the answers guys I am of to try buy a new wireless charger
edit - New charger solved the problem.

Question Heat whilst charging Pixel Watch

I'd just like to find out if anyone else has found that whilst charging that the watch can become a little hot?
Yes, it gets hot when charging, it's fine after a few minutes tho.
Should be fine
For me the issue was that it got hot and stopped charging. Some other people commented that it depend on power source, if charging of pixel power adaptor or charging from laptop. I didn't test with laptop yet, just limit to short charging so it doesn't get hot, because it will battery if it gets hot too often.
gets nice and warm for me, totally normal for wireless chargers, especially in devices this size. Never got so hot as to be uncomfortable to wear right after charging.
Yeah, charging with for example Samsung 25w charger, watch gets hot after 40% of charging and stopped at 90%, charged with laptop, no issues, not so hot. So it depends on charger.

Question Max charge not working anymore?

Hello!
I have been using RM8P for the past 2 weeks and everything was fine, the 65W EU adapter charged it really fast, however today I noticed something. I noticed that when I plug in the adapter to charge, the Maxcharge logo appears and the percentage displayer starts to rise fast, however after 1-2 seconds it slows down to normal charging speed, like if it was only a 20-30W adapter.
Why? How can I fix it? Restarting the phone did not help. I am on the latest OS for EU (3.19) .
Maxcharge logo is displayed but the speed drastically descreased ...
I checked several times while charging and I noticed that sometimes it speeds up and sometimes it slows down... why? Why is it fluctuating ?
What is the battery level when you plug in? My understanding of charging tech is that it is not always full speed from min to max. If you're sometimes plugging in above that throttle level it may go slower.
Then again, I'm not 100% on new charging tech. My RM8 has yet to arrive.
In my experience, it's not the phone but the charger. With my old op9pro it happened more than once, the charger started failing, you could get another 65w rated charger and check with accubattery the power delivered by both chargers. Down here they shipped the phone with the eu charger and a standard American charger rated "65” the eu Nubia charger goes to 64/ 65 watts without issues (I use an adapter to connect it) , the bundled one even though is rated 65 only gives 45w, sometimes 39, which is a bit annoying but it doesn't bother me, as long as I can charge it while having a shower or when I'm having breakfast before taking off, it does the trick, this thing is so good, battery lasts me 2 days
