DirecTVnow app rooted with Magisk. - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Magisk Hide doesn't seem to work on the DirecTVnow app. Has anybody else been able to watch shows on a rooted device?
Is anybody rooted using only SuperSU and can turn off Superuser and watch shows? (This works on my Galaxy Tab S2)
I attempted to root only using SuperSU before and my phone went into a recovery loop. It would not boot back into Android.
Any other solutions are appreciated.

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the exact same issue on the exact same device.

Have you tried magisk hide? It's in the menu of the magisk app

Forgot all about this. Using latest Magisk and Hide I am able to use the DirecTVnow app. Although just updated to Pie and Magisk won't yet pass safetynet check so Hide may not work on some apps.

I'm using Magisk version 16.7(1674) and Flash Kernel 3.01 on Pie. Magisk passes safety net and I can use the DirecTV app without problems.

[x Force] Installing Magisk Root & Universal Systemless Interface

Had issues installing the latest SuperSU, turns out an old version needs to be installed then updated
Found no mention of Magisk and the x Force so gave it a try. Works beautifully and just wanted to share
This is what I did for reference
Download:
Latest Magisk zip from here
Latest Clark TWRP from here
Have a clean boot, bootloader and system image see this guide here - Also follow this guide for obtaining adb/fastboot if you don't already have it
Copy the Magisk zip to your SDcard
reboot into fastboot either by holding the power button and volume down when booting or via adb
Code:
adb reboot fastboot
Temporarily boot into into TWRP
Code:
fastboot boot C:\twrp-3.0.2-0-clark.img
Select the install option, then navigate to the Magisk zip file. Swipe to install. Wait
Reboot
Install the Magisk app from the play store - official guide said there would be a stub app but i didn't encounter
Reboot again to get Super user access - Note: you can install modules like xposed at this point through the app.
Thankfully my banking app tap to pay works when used with Magisk Hide enabled on it so I am very pleased

Maybe™
My banking app uses google's inbuilt SafteyNet library to detect root and from my understanding that is also how android pay works as well. Magisk's hide function seams to bypass this detection even though on the main screen of Magisk management app the SafetyNet check fails.

Absolutely it is !!!
You are rooting your phone.
BTW, I've been running Magisk on CrashXXLs ROMs since they first appeared last summer. There is a Magisk module available to allow the ROM to pass SafetyNET.

With the very latest CrashXXL ROM from a few days ago, Magisk 14.0 passes SafetyNET without the need for any additional modules, or at least it does on my EU xt1580 :good:
If you are coming from stock MM-6.01 on the X-Force, I can strongly recommend the CrashXXL 7.0 ROM as it is rock solid, works with TWRP and has auto-updating disabled (which is a good thing if you don't want to accidentally brick your rooted phone). Moto are not really supporting the X-Force, so there is absolutely no reason to stick with stock as there will be no official Oreo update.
Your other option is (unofficial) LineageOS, however, when I tried it a few weeks ago, I found it extremely unstable, particularly when running TomTom! Therefore, I cannot recommend LineageOS for the X-Force.

Magisk on Nexus 5x

Is anyone using magisk and have Android pay working with root on the 5x ? I've been looking for a thread and can't find how to do it.
Unlock bootloader
Flash stock image
Flash TWRP
Reboot
Download magisk Manager and zip
Reboot ?
Will root apps work now with Android pay?

Do I need to flash SU or just magisk
Got it working. Shows Superuser PHH's not the SU by chainfire. Some apps are not working as well with superuser vs SU, but at least everything seems to be working. Every now and then Magisk Manager bug and it shows loss of root. I'll try Android pay sometime today if I can
Could you make a quick guide on how you got magisk installed correctly?
I had some trouble when i tried it after updating to 7.1.2 yesterday and ended up flashing supersu instead. thx

If you have custom kernel, flash the stock one or that came with the Rom from recovery. Then flash Magisk 12 zip file from Magisk Thread and flash it via recovery. Then reboot and download Magisk manager ....
Is there any reason why Magisk wouldn't work with a custom jkernel? I've installed Magisk on top of pure nexus ROM with ElementalX kernel without issues before.
I'm running SAOSP with Magisk and Franco Kernel and I have root and Android Pay works. That's all I flashed. It had a hard time passing Safety Net when SuperSU was installed. So just flash Magisk without SuperSU. And I guess Android Pay can detect if you have an unlocked bootloader so Franco Kernel is used because it hides that.
I tried Android Pay twice. First time didn't go through, said on the vending machine failed. Second time worked. I checked Android Pay and see 2 charges, does the one that didn't go through just drop off eventually ? Also both charges are much higher than what the actual price was, but I assume this is just a temp charge.
I have elemental X kernel. Works fine. I decided not to mess with SU. My other apps work, plus I've tried asking Chainfire before questions about his apps he's made and he never responded. Not cool, I did buy his apps too, not just freebies.

All of my Android Pay charges initially show up as a $1.00 pending charge. After a while, they post as transactions for the full value of the purchase.

A50 Magisk Modules/Substratum Themes (ROOT)

Here we can discuss about the various magisk modules that are compatible with the Exynos A50 ( A505f/FD ) and also about the substratum themes that can be applied safely without any bugs and bootloop.
Magisk root has been available for the A50 since a long time now, the procedure to flash is very different from the previous versions as we dont have a stable and compatible Official TWRP from the March Security Patch.
( FOR MAGISK ROOT - A50 EXYNOS , GO SEARCH FOR " MAX LEE A50 ROOT" ON YOUTUBE )
And of course , if you have successfuly rooted your device with magisk you will want to start using Substratum! This thread can also be used for the Substratum themes compatible with the Galaxy A50.
* MAGISK Modules tested on A505f/fd
- Viper4Android FX Legacy
- Google Product Sans ( System wide font )
- xmlpak - a road to vendor apps
- Youtube Vanced Magisk Repo
- Energized Protection
- App systemizer
- Debloater
- DNS Switcher
To be updated everyday*
* SUBSTRATUM / Themes tested
- Swift Installer
To be updated everyday*
Do you know if Substratum works for this device already? Also, have you tried any and magisk modules like xposed? I recently rooted my A50 and im very curious what it can handle!
Is it possible to have full camera2api working by editing build prop after rooting?
And than unroot to have OTA?

Earlier today i tried substratum- complete one ui mods *from xda* , after applying my mobile was restarting on its own so had to disable substratum from magisk to fix the issue. The problem is that it is hard to know what is compatible with the Galaxy A50 as there is hardly any development.
But i am sure swift installer will work just fine, will give it a try.

You need to boot into magisk root by pressing the volume up + power button everytime you boot your phone for a working magisk.
So when you uninstall a mod from magisk and it restarts you automatically boot into a normal boot where you wont have root. For fixing this when you uninstall the mod and reboot your phone, hold on the volume up + power before the samsung screen shows up and till the samsung bootscreen comes. Then you will have a working magisk root , you dont have to flash ap on odin again and again.

Yes, once we have a working twrp and custom rom then we are good to go.
These are the few magisk modules that im currently using on A505F
Swift Installer works perfectly on A50, the best way to get a true night mode on all the apps.

I got Adaway working using these options

Hi tried above steps, it asked for reboot, but after reboot still hosts are not enabled..
Try adguard app instead once. See if it is able to modify host or not.
I am having the same problem with adaway. Have tried the above- no dice. Anyone else getting things to work?
It works with systemless hosts for me also!
Yeah it works works with systemless hosts enabled. Both on the app and magisk. I had a similar problem but it's sorted out now
AdAway 4.3, Magisk Canary (newest build) with systemless and works great (default dir for hosts). Thanks for info.

Problem with BHIM UPI and Adaway on rooted 10.3.2.HD65AA, OP7T India.

I am on 10.3.2, rooted with Magisk Manager version 07f712a1 and Magisk 87de0e7a. These are the version numbers I can see when i open Magisk Manager. Magisk Hide is enable for banking apps mainly, systemless host module is enabled and Magisk package name is also hidden.
Most apps needing root are working fine and most Banking apps requiring root to be hidden are also working fine.
However BHIM UPI is not working, I get a message of root detected after putting the PIN and it does not open. If I uninstall or clear storage and register my mobile again, it gives the root detected error but still logs in. However as soon as I exit and open again, it does not log in. Any way to get this working?
Adaway had been working properly but now it is not able to update hosts, says Root permission not granted, even though in Magisk default permission is Grant. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, change options in Magisk, install F-droid version but nothing works. Systemless host is enabled. I have restored a working app version and data using Titanium backup so ad-blocking is working. But unable to update with new host file. How to fix this?
Did you try to remove root and root again? Maybe something with Magisk isn't right.
For BHIM UPI I have no idea what that app is but there are a lot of apps that use really good root detection which Magisk can't fully circumvent. It could be that this is the case here

BHIM UPI is a Banking App.
I am currently on Magisk Canary and also having problem with Adaway. I tried to change channel to Stable and the manager changed to version 7.5.1 but Magisk remained Canary version. When I tried to install the latest stable version the installation fails so I had to revert back to Canary version. If I clear storage the Manager comes back to Canary version and then I am able to install Canary Magisk version, it installs properly.
How do I properly uninstall Canary version Magisk and install Stable Magisk, maybe this will resolve the issues.

Is this meant as a reply to my post? My issue with Adaway on Magisk Canary is that suddenly it is not able to get root permission.
So it worked before? I had to mess with the systemless hosts to get it working. It didn't have issues acquiring root though.

I would advise to use the stable Magisk version. You can either flash the Magisk uninstaller via TWRP or uninstall Magisk in Magisk Manager and then flash the stable Magisk version in TWRP

Afaik only for custom ROMs. Otherwise, you can still remove Magisk in Magisk Manager and then patch the boot.img with the stable Magisk version or you remove ALL modules first, then make an OTA update to your existing version.
Then patch boot.img and flash it via "fastboot flash boot.img".
@jesrani What was the solution finally ?
Yea I'm having the same issue, tried everything i could and even using 'hide my applist' and it IS working. Its just that all apps except BHIM just won't even open now.
