Unending trouble with system partition for hydrogen - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

hi guys, I am having trouble with my MI Max having 32GB internal memory.
From it's behaviour for last few days I have inferred it's system partition is the culprit.
On stock miui rom, it gives msg that encryption unsuccessful and I need to factory reset it. But even after doing factory reset it shows the same msg.
Its with locked boot loader but referring one thread I could install twrp latest version on it by replacing recovery image in stock rom and flashing with mi flash tool in edl mode.
So with two I tried installing few vision rooms like miui eu ROM, RR and crdroid based on Oreo. All the rooms while flashing fine error E1001, saying system image not updated and flashing failed.
I even tried repairing file system, fixing file system, Channing file system to fat, exfat, ext2, ext3, ext4 and f2fs several times (from advanced wipe menu) but things are not improving. Even tried formatting data partition as it's suggested at few places.
I am out of ideas after spending few days trying to fix it by flashing several times.
So please if some one can assist in resolving the issue, I would really appreciate.
Thank you in advance.

You need to format data not wipe . Go to twrp choose wipe , format data and type yes . Note, by doing this you will lose all of your data if you want to keep it make sure to save it to your PC or USB drive.

As discussed yesterday on unofficial LineageOS (nijel8) thread the nand is damaged. You need to delate partition, compact unallocated space & then recreate the exactly the same partition. That way it won't be on the same spot & it will work.
Use a PC with an partition manager.

Tks a lot for the reply. It gave a ray of hope to me. Though I am hearing modifying partition on android device for the first time to fix it. That too for bricked device and to do it on PC. Is there any thread guiding about it? Would read a bit about how to do it in order to not mess things up even more.

It's still ain't bricked so you can do this relatively easy. When it's bricked EDL programmer for used NAND chip used is needed.
So take a deep breath, see the exact size & type of the partition, delate it, create a new one exactly the same (type, size & name).

The tool I gave you URL is very good documented and with plenty examples & user guides available all which can be found on the site, it uses graphics GUI so it's as easy as it can be. So if you are inexperienced read/watch first how it's done. After you are done flash what you want in TWRP.
Best regards.

What I meant to ask is, how to access partitions of mobile on PC? I have used partitioning app on windows but never for android device. Anyway, as u have clued, I shall try accessing partitions with mobile connected in edl mode.

[Q] Time for Warranty claim

Unfortunately today on my display appeared a yellow vertical line from the battery icon up to the very top. This has to be a dead screen.
Since I have bought the device my GPS does not respond at all no-mater what I do...
Therefore I decided it is time to return it to ACER for a warranty repair. Of course I have unlocked my device and installed every possible tweak that exist here in the dev forum. So I want to ask if there is a way to return the device totally stock as it was out of the box or if the unlocking and rooting does void the warranty?
Thank you
HOW TO GUIDE:
1. USB Driver Acer A100 http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/USB/USB_Acer_1.000_A32H_A.zip?acerid=634486286202185014&Step1=Tablet&Step2=ICONIA%20TAB&Step3=A100&OS=a08&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6
2. Unlock mode + Recovery required (search for this in dev Forum)
3. Download Official ICS (also in dev forum - use the 300MB version, for me the 250MB didn't work)
4. Copy the file to the Integrated memory of your A100
5. Enter recovery(HOLD power & Vol+ > after vibrate release Power and wait) and install the update.zip by scrolling to it (if you are not sure what to do just read or watch youtube on "how to navigate in recovery")
6.Wait until extracted and then reboot system
7. Wait until everything is brought back to stock
I really need some help because I have to return it soon...I just want to wipe it clean as it came from the factory, without anything on it.
Please help me

Supposedly the stock ics official update.zip will relock it and put back to Acer factory status.

I would be very pleased to get help from you!

I want to add that after I updated to the official ics, as by many guides, I made a nandroid backup. So it was in the very beginning before I began optimizing! Should I just restore this backup?

You can but you'll still have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery. I'll try to find some time but right now I'm short and 13% battery lol

I think you can use ad to wipe the recovery and lock the bootloader-
Sent from my A100 using XDA
I truly thank you about trying to help me and giving me suggestions but what is "ad". I am as much of a "hacker" as I could follow the guides in this forum. I am not familiar with the basics and all the hard work behind every new ROM, Kernel, tweak etc... Therefore I really need some kind of a guide or few steps.
For example: if I download the official ics from the dev forum > run the recovery > wipe clean(as by the books) > install the official .zip would that be a true factory reset - locked, no root , no "NASA" stuff
thank you

Sorry, XD. That was spell check in ice cream sandwich. Meant adb.

Put the update.zip on your SD, hold volume down and power, it restores to stock ics.
The stock official update.zip is around the forum someplace. Maybe in the dev forum.

P.S. I just do NOT want to brick my device, better ask first
Another question/problem: I went to recovery and prepared to run the >>>System Nullify: Nullifies /cache /data /system. THIS DELETES INTERNAL SD!<<<
When I choose to use a zip from SD card it opens the devices integrated memory, BUT when I use a zip from Internal SD it opens the micro SD card. So does that mean it will erase everything from my INTERNAL SD = micro SD(external), dew to recovery internal sd is the external sd....very confusing!
So what happend, I ran the script than I applied the update.zip(from external SD, extracted successfully) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307046 FULL PACKAGE
and now I am stuck at ACER logo with bootloader still UNLOCKED!
What are my options?
P.S. I have tried the http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/tablets/2011/Acer/ICONIATab/ICONIATabA100/ICONIATabA100faq9.shtml FACTORY RESET but as soon as it started to "Erasing Userdata..." , reboots and I am again stuck at ACER UNLOCKED MODE logo...
I am now with wiped clean FlexR but I do not know how to install the official ICS?! What should I do?

My nullifier only does internal no matter what's mounted. Its hard coded to do /data which contains /data/media which is internal. It does not do sdc or external or any other partitions besides /cache /data /system. So basically no, it couldn't unless your recovery mounts external to one of those mount points, which none do unless its been changed.
Tldnr doesn't do external no matter what.

TWRP "unable to mount /data"

I was going to flash a new rom, but every time I try to wipe, I get a failed message. I doesn't wipe dalvik cache and also gives me the message above (TWRP "unable to mount /data"). Anybody know how to fix this.
Did you try to factory reset in bootloader (corrupts internal memory on modded phones, so don't do it).
Try connecting to a Window PC, find the device on Device Manager and format the internal memory.

If TWRP can't mount it, I don't think it will be able to format it. I'm not sure formatting by PC will work either, but its worth a try.
A more complicated solution was posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54885875&postcount=23
But I can't personally vouch for it, so use your discretion. I've seen this issue crop up a few times now, you would think there was a more uniform solution by now . . .

My suggestion to just connect to PC and format via Device Manager worked for this guy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/im-to-die-fix-t2852003/page2
So hopefully, you will have the same luck.

IN TWRP, select Wipe, and pick the option to Format Data. See if that helps.
Install CWM recovery instead. Go to the Mount and Storage page, and choose "format /data and format /data/media" option at the bottom of the list of options. This option doesn't require CWM to try and mount the partition first (which would fail due to encryption), but just does a straight format. After this, you can install TWRP and flash a new ROM again!

You haven't stated what your specific issue is, or any details about your phone (CID, Android version, etc.).
If you have TWRP installed (which corresponds to the original topic of this thread), you can format the internal storage by going to the TWRP "Wipe" section and tapping the button "Format data". This fixes many cases of corrupted internal storage. But you haven't stated what your problem is.
If that doesn't work, on your PC, you should be able to format the internal storage like any other drive. At least that worked for the person I quoted over 2 years ago (Post #4 above). Hard to remember such details from so long ago.

Whoa! Just slow down, take a breathe, spend a few more minutes describing your issue. Otherwise, it makes it difficult (impossible?) to help you. One jumbled run-on sentence isn't going to help matters. It doesn't really take much more energy or time to type proper sentences (get to a real keyboard, if you need to). But the way you've posted, certainly makes it hard to understand what you are trying to tell us. Also need a lot more details:
How exactly did the problem start? Did you just recently install TWRP, or has it been on the device for a while?
What version number TWRP?
What happens when you try to install a ROM, or wipe cache/Dalvik in TWRP (outcomes, specific error messages, etc.).
How exactly did you come to have no OS?
Also, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

Hello, D0ping! Thanks for responding.
A few questions before I go ahead with your recommendation:
1. Will there be limitations or problems later like I won't be able to use the storage or something?
2. Custom rom, root, etc will work like normal, right? I'm using Lineage 16.0 (Android 9) on X9006 with TWRP.
3. By "unification of memory", do you mean that the internal storage becomes one whole unit, used for apps, files or both?
4. What exactly are LVM and Chinese Unified Storage Method?
5. This process is to make the two internal storage units become one, and it will not interrupt other areas in the phone, correct?
6. The end result of this process gives me 16gb storage that can be used for files which also stores apps, instead of the old way which keeps the app data in system which cannot be accessed without root?
7. Additionally, in that post by brownboy1289, the screenshot of the software he linked shows some kind of unusual typewriting along with some Chinese at the bottom. I don't know Chinese, so it won't be an issue, right? Regards.
8. Also, I read in Reddit where some people said something like some roms won't be supported ("I don't know if CM12 supports it", "No, CM, doesn't support it."). Will this be an issue for Lineage 16.0?
Hey Dude, a lot of questions.
I give you short answers:
1. No
2. Custom Roms and magisk work fine
3. Yes, internal storage becomes one whole unit.
4. They are different methods. I prefer chinese method. I cant explain the difference.
5. Yes
6. You will get 16gb storage. You can use them for apps, files, pictures or anything else. I don´t know where those apps are located but with root it should be no problem.
7. Sorry link of the screenshot isnt working. If you follow the steps and read the posts of thread you will know everthing.
8. Lineage 16.0 has no problems. I have installed it on my find 7a.

Thanks for this! I am trying to do it now but I have some issues. There was one point when I tried to go into fastboot by clicking Volume Up without the battery. It worked at first but then I decided to just unplug the phone from my laptop and ended it. I think something happened and it bricked, I tried to do it again but the screen is black for fastboot mode (without battery). When I put the battery in and try to go into fastboot, it works and shows the screen. But without battery, there's black screen. So in the X9007_Android5.0_16G_20150520 program, I took out the battery and tried to proceed using this black screen fastboot mode and for some reason the timer goes until 10 seconds then it freezes. Nothing happens after that. Video: https://streamable.com/jq8cdd

I wanted to try again from the start after seeing how it works so I just unplugged it assuming it wasn't going to cause any issues. From then, the fastboot screen doesn't show at all when I connect the phone without battery to laptop. My phone is not entirely bricked, just the bootloader / fastboot isn't working properly. I still have the phone in its normal state with Lineage 16.0 and all the apps/data, etc (I haven't wiped anything yet). Is there a way to factory reset/repair/reinstall the fastboot thing in my phone?

Luckily your phone is still working. Maybe a factory reset can resolve your problem but I dont think so. I see no other option than replace linage with the original os. After that you can give your memory unification a next try. Afterwards you can flash TWRP and Lineage (with patch).

Question, Galaxy a50 broke internal storage after flashing TWRP

Hey there,
I have the Galaxy a50 SM-A505Fn and I just broke my internal storage by flashing TWRP and Multidisabler.
First, I should note that I am completely blind, so I use TWRP with ADB in CMD.
First I tried to root my phone with a patched boot image, using Magisc, but that didn't work, so I switched to TWRP.
After flashing it with Odin and booting into the recovery, my pc saw it as Galaxy A50 and the folders inside it were literal giberish and I couldn't paste anything in it, so I switched to a micro SD to flash Disabler and that worked surprisingly well.
Note, I did the wiping before that.
After the disabler worked, I rebooted into TWRP and used the command to reboot into recovery, as I was instructed, then the phone booted up just fine.
I set it up, and gained root with Magisc manager, but after connecting it to the PC to get the sound files I wanted to change it was still giberish and didn't let me make folders or paste anything into it.
The card also looked like it had the internal storage files like you would see on any phone, it had like 256 KB used on it from 2 gb it is formated at since I used it for a pi before and didn't have time to fix the capacity on it back to 64, but again you can't put anything onto it while in the phone.
Any help on how to make it work like normal?
Also apps don't see the storage properly either, so I can't use it for the reasons I rooted it for.
Thanks a lot.
After reading about it, it seems that the storage is encripted.
I managed to flash Infinity os on it, but the thing doesn't talk since it is missing text to speech, so I wanted to flash a zip to make it talking.
After rebooting into twrp, again, still encripted.
Got the zip onto my card, but doesn't flash, which is fine since that can be fixed, but I can't really do anything to fix it.
Does anyone know the command to format data?
twrp format data doesn't work like in the TWRP guide.
Any ideas?

Did that already, that is how I flashed a rom on it, but was still encripted.
The rom said that there is a problem with my device, but it set up just fine.
I am back on ful stock right now and it decripted, I might try it again in some time.
The only things I want from root is to be able to change system sounds, to add haptic feedback which I already did and tweak it so it works faster.
If I could change the sounds without root and without event sound that would be awesome and would let me stay on stock.

Good thing you got it decrypted back again, i have had kind of the same issue with internal storage decreasing drastically multiple times, as far as i understood it happens when i install patched AP with magisk then install multidisabler and reboot it without formatting the whole device, maybe try that when your root next time to get past the internal storage issue. Note that mine was in android 9 and device storage was not encrypted unlike yours.
And as a suggestion, if there's someone near you who can help you with actually rooting your device with magisk rather than TWRP it will be much easier.
Regards

I've got the patched image for AP from a friend, also patched TWRP, but it did that after flashing auto disabler and wiping everything, so I still don't get it.
Anyway, it is back for now and I will have to see if it breaks next time I install twrp on it.
