Gcam Port for miui 9 - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

Can anyone provide me the links of those files that is necessary to use gcam port(protrait/HDR+) feature????

You can't. The used API is not supported by MIUI.

This works with MIUI except front portrait
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...018.177470874.41362666__A7.0-8.1_MI5S_v2e.apk

Even with HDR+? Wow, I never thought they would implement it.

Does portrait mode really work under miui running android 7?!
Also, is the image fluid and smooth while using the gcam you linked to under miui?
I tried an older version of gcam with eu miui running android 7 in the past, and it was nowhere close to the way gcam works smoothly under los (especially los 15.1 running androud 8.1). Under miui the image was updated in a chppy slow manner indoors.
If all works well, please send screenshots with your settings of gcam in all the menus.
I am only using los15.1 for gcam, otherwise I'd love to return to miui...

Very cute kid!
I'm amazed this works under miui... I thought portrait mode works only on Android 8. Have you done anything special to get it to work like that? Does the image refresh fast while using gcam?
Can you please screenshot your version of miui from settings?
This changes a lot - I've been using los 15.1 only for the gcam, and have missed the miui rom which I much prefer and the panorama mode and time lapse of the miui camera.

It works exactly the same as in LOS 15.1, at least the version I put in the link (MGC_5.1.018.177470874.41362666__A7.0-8.1_MI5S_v2e.apk). As you can see from the file name, this apk is special for MI5s, both for Android 7 and 8.1.. Same refresh speed, colors, focus, etc.
The only difference is that in LOS everything works, and in MIUI the portrait doesn't work in the front camera. I think it can be fixed with an extra zip, but I don't need it because it's not important to me.
As for the installation, there is nothing special about it. You can install apk directly on MIUI Global or miui.eu without any problems.
I recommend that you make a backup, install MIUI and try it yourself. If you are not convinced, you can restore the backup

Update: I did all the above, but found that this version of gcam tends to overexpose the images greatly. I returned to my twrp backup of los15. Q, installed this gcam and compared it to the version I use under los15. 1 and it still tends to overexpose, so I guess I'm staying with los15.1 for now.

It has no data like that in app info (look sc). I give you app settings so you can see what it has, advance menu is there, it has motion (option). And you can see what settings i use, othere settings give green in high light, and this is bes i could tune it.
You go on link i send you and search for all 5.xxx (for pecise version look at sc) version of app and install one by one (skip no settings one), and you will find. If i find time i will search.
I am using MIUI 9.2.1.0 Global Stable (Android 7.0).

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of android, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock android for your device.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit our Wiki.
Important Info
Information and installation instruction can be found on the LineageOS wiki here.
NOTE 1: The newest version Google Camera app in the play store does not fully support our camera hardware. You need to use an older version of the app if you want 100% working camera. You can download it from here and install it, then immediately go to the camera app in the play store and tap the 3 dot menu in top right corner and disable auto updates.
NOTE 2: I recommend using the newest radio and bootloader from the final factory image released by google (M4B30Z, Dec 2016). You can extract them from the factory image here, or use the ones linked below that I already extracted.
They can be flashed with fastboot.
Tip: If your device already has these versions installed, there's no need to reflash them. You can boot into fastboot mode and see the radio and bootloader version numbers.

why don't you try it for yourself instead of asking what is working or not. that's why there's a custom recovery called TWRP so you can back up and restore your data.

FEEDBACK SO FAR:
At first, most of Google made apps didn't work, had to reinstall them. CM Bug Report app keeps crashing at every restart. HDR doesn't work on Google Camera (it's there but it doesn't work). Theme Engine missing is a known fact, we'll have it in future updates. Many CM features from the settings menu, don't work, they are present and active, but no changes occur when using them. Battery charges slow as you can see from the screenshot.
The rest seems ok, after 3 hours of use.
Offtopic opinion. The Navigation dropdown with all it's quicksettings and whatever is a downgrade for me. Lollipop/Marshmallow had better looking system graphics, with floating navigation bar and notifications and nicer animations when pulling the notification bar down. Now it's just fullscreen flat thingy.
Had to take this of my chest regarding Android Nougat...but we have to blend with the evolution right?

Always on the latest updates. It updated by itself after booting, it's 4.2.xxx
Video recording works. Google Camera used to have a bug and it still does on CM13, but on the Nexus 4. When trying to slide to video, it force closes... Same on my tablet with an unofficial CM13, it's a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1.
I know the HDR doesn't work because usually it deactivates the flash when it's on, or the other way around (turning on flash disables HDR), but now it's doesn't do that and the flash works with HDR on and it shouldn't...
I think something like this was happening in CM12 and it started working after a few updates of the Google Camera and CM...
Still 3.2.045 is the last version supported in official stock rom so its ok

How do I enable Google camera hdr+ compabillity

I am using a Lenovo p2a42 on aicp 7.1.2. I tried to use hdr+, but it doesn't show up in Google camera. Is it because that p2 doesn't support it or is it possible to edit for example the build.prop and get it. Does it work on the stock rom?

Yes stock rom supports hdr
You mean Google hdr+(ported camera app from Pixel)???
I'm also looking for a working Google HDR+ camera app for Lenovo P2, would you please share it with us?
First of all, hdr+ works generally only on Pixel devices - so officially, no way to get it to work just by using the play store and downloading the app.
There is a ported version that works on SD820/821/835 devices, but this one doesn't work with the P2 as well, as the cpu isn't supported (yet?!?).
So, until then, no way to get hdr+ running on the p2

Actually it's working on redmi note 4 which has the same specs as Lenovo p2....same processor sd625 and camera sensor....so my question is, has anyone tested it with Lenovo p2(custom rom)?? Bcuz I don't want to root my phone without a working Google hdr+ camera app.....
I just checked that and while that seems to be true, it still doesn't work with the P2 ^^
Camera API2 is enabled, the camera also supports all manual modes (See attachment), but the Google camera doesn't work at all (See other attachement). You'll have to make do with the hdr mode of opencamera, which is fine, but pretty slow. Stil, the results are imho better than stock Lenovo hdr mode.

Thanks mate... by the way, which rom r u using.....which is the most stable???
Had to edit out the picture due to visible faces, so here is the "correct" second attachement - to your question: I'm currently using the AEX 8.0 alpha, works linke a charm; snappy, bug-free as can be, fine as a daily driver (other bugs like notification LED and not working fp-gestures also are in every other custom-rom).
So you could perhaps start with that.
Cm14.1 should be very stabile too, although I didn't try that one, so I can't give any advice there.

I think it should work with any custom rom. Dont forget to add mentioned line to buildprop.
Hm, HDR+ with the camera you posted works fine on my AEX 8.0, the Pixel Camera (also with hdr+) however, doesn't. So, what's the difference between yours and this one: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195922284
Edit: I'll correct myself and say that it doesn't works. HDR+ enabled and disabled give the exact same results, comparing that to open cameras HDR, there is a night and day difference.

If you don't like how custom camera performs in custom ROMs, you may want to try this. The flashable zip that you'll download will "install" in your preferred custom ROM the stock ROM Camera HAL.
What is this HAL?
Android's camera Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) connects the higher level camera framework APIs in android.hardware to your underlying camera driver and hardware. The camera subsystem includes implementations for camera pipeline components while the camera HAL provides interfaces for use in implementing your version of these components. (from source.android.com)
How to install:
Flash Magisk
From Magisk manager install the "init.d injector" module and reboot
Boot in recovery and flash Stock-Camera-HAL.zip
Reboot
Done!
Warning!
This zip will put your selinux in permissive mode.
Tested on Official LineageOS

Thanks! Just flashed this on official Lineage 15.1 and the difference is pretty big! I did two shots of the same location (before and after flashing), and then cropped the photos at the maximum zoom in gallery. The comparison is in attachment.
EDIT: I was using Open Camera app (with camera2api enabled)
Installed on the ROM Pixel Expirience . I did not notice any difference.
It doesn't work on your Xenon HD rom, so I move to your lineage release and works with Lineage camera. Thanks

Maybe because i was using a modded one.
Youtube Vanced was it's name.
To clear things up: the HAL won't simply "provide better quality" because it's from Xiaomi. They did close to none good things with the default Qualcomm camera stack. But what you'll really get is the access to HAL1, meaning the possibility to use typical Qualcomm/Xiaomi features. Long exposure, high framerates, all with default libs. Just MIUI Camera or Snapdragon Camera needed. BTW, the sample image posted here was sadly sharpened and purged from colors xD So that's rather an example of something sad.

Just visually, not technically :> By appearing "better" after zooming in, you get aliasing and halos as the side effect. If it were a small text, you'd notice that actually nothing changed about its readability. Sharpening mask is mathematically wrong and the only possibly useful algorithms are the ones which try to recalculate lost detail, for example something like Raisr.

I haven't tried the ROM yet (I want to do it. But.. idk). But I think that the problems is because the apn is not previous configured. You need to put it by yourself on setting. It's a mentioned bug
Everything works fine.

Oh yesss!! I didn't see it, but thanks tho, done it manually and works fine!
Does this ROM suffer from random reboots like the other pie ROMs? Is it overclocked?

@sic0 is right. The ROM doesn't come with APNs configured. You need to search up the APN settings for your specific carrier (i.e. if I had Verizon, I would search up "verizon apn settings android")

^^^ also wondering the same thing
ROM is working fine, I'm just missing the extra functions of swipe up home Button like turn off the screen and swipe back. About the issues, I've find that the wireless display ( wich I've enabled through build.prop) is not working, and that I got reboots while using the panorama mode in OpenCamera, and the ui gets a bit laggy sometimes, I've noticed some problems while using WiFi Direct app, but It seems to work mostly of times.
Keep the good work :good:
Thanks For The ROM !!!
This ROM is Smoother than the previous PE ROM i had installed
the camera works fine
QS torch toggle is working
[Edit: After the first reboot it doesnt work, it looks like disabled , using moto gestures]
i didnt Face any random reboots
[Edit: after installing any apk , it reboots , or enabling a new option like network moniter or something]
It doesnt show fast charging when a fast charger is pluged in
I cant install the google phone app from playstore like i did in the PE ROM
google camera v 5.0 that i used before didnt work on this rom [Edit: camera.hal3 was disabled , after enabling it , gcam works fine no green images ]
didnt face any unexpected glitches or lag
there is a weird glitch in dark mode , the notifications stay white , not the notification panel , just the notification
if theres a google camera mod you can suggest , plz do and Thanks for the ROM , i realy love the PE ROMs
Can i login into snapchat account ?

Best and the most stable Pie ROM
It is the best and the most stable pie rom for moto g4 plus. Everything works fine. There are no bugs and the camera is also working perfectly there are no green images. Battery backup is also good, performance is like stock, only the phone app takes 2-3 seconds to open it.
I have attached some screenshots. Just very happy with the ROM. It is best for daily use.
Newbie here
What is the difference between Unofficial Pixel Experience and the Official Pixel Experience ROMs available at their website? Is the maintainer not recognized by the Pixel Experience Team? Is that the reason for Unofficial tag?
Hi
I get the message "cannot find Magisk binaries", the install ends, but the ROM just stays on the bootloop. Any suggestions?
Nevermind: I just formatted the device the problem went away.
Regards

Have you got the 3GB or 4GB version?
Are the animations stuttering at times? Is everything running smoothly?
After passing 12 hrs with this rom, I could say that, UI is bit laggy, Apps opening take longer time than the usual, After reboot/power on, Display glitches (irritating). Otherwise everything is okay. Camera works great, Video recording too, Hope that next update will solve all the problems.

Trying to install GCam, where can I get the latest patched boot image?

I'm following this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-how-to-enable-camera2-api-t3851414
And it takes you to a thread with old boot images, and I was wondering if there were any ones that were more recent (i.e. January 2020 security patch). Or does it not matter if I'm using this method only to enable camera2api?
Thanks
Grab the latest stock Rom from here and download it (10.0.18.0 is Jan 2020) : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/fastboot-xiaomi-mi-a2-fastboot-images-t3824871
Then follow this guide until step 9 to get your own patched boot.img : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-install-magisk-proper-support-ota-t3836952
It matters which version of the boot.img you're using, if you happen to use an older version, your device won't boot and you won't be able to do what you want.

Search for my comment in the same thread, I described the way you should follow to avoid data loss. With my method you won't lose your data. But also if this is your first time unlocking the bootloader, you will lose data. If you've unlocked the bootloader before then you won't have any issues. Cheers.

Go to developer settings in the Settings > System. If you can't see it there, you need to enable it first. To do that go over to About Phone in settings and tap on the Build Number several times, until you get a toast notification saying Developer settings are enabled.
Once you're in the developer settings, find the USB Debugging option and enable it. After you connect your phone and execute "adb shell" command, a pop-up will appear on your phone saying if you want to trust this computer, tap yes then you'll be good to go.
EDIT: I believe you tried to use 7zip for extraction, 7zip can only extract 1 archive at a time and the file you downloaded is compressed twice (tar, gz). WinRAR can decompress the file in one go. Final files have no difference so use whichever suits you best. Don't forget to use my method while locking the bootloader again. Cheers.
Hey! Don't want to open a new forum so I'm just curious which version of gcam you guys are using? Can someone suggest me a gcam? The ones I tried all have some bugs (for example: random freezing, slow motion video lagging etc.). Or there's not a single gcam that has all it's features working on mi a2 lite?
Currently I'm using GCam_v7.0.009-v4.4.front.hdr.working.

There is not a single gcam that has everything working currently, there are 2 reasons for this and lags :
1 - Our CPU is old, so it can't handle gcams' processing that well.
2 - There has never been a single gcam optimized for our device, except for hass31's gcam port. But that gcam's version is 5.1 and although it worked wonders in Oreo, it has focus issues on Pie.
The gcam you're using produces the best results on this phone right now, at least the front and back cameras work. You can try Urnyx05's gcam ports version 6, those will have back camera working, but the front cam HDR+/HDR+ Advanced won't work. If you downgrade to Oreo, you can use hass31's port. Or you can flash a custom kernel on stock Pie ROM, which fixes the focus issues. If you only have Cam2API enabled with a locked Bootloader, I'd suggest sticking to the gcam you're using right now, because it's the one that works properly. But feel free to test other gcam ports here : https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

Thank you for your detailed answer! Guess I stay with the one I use for now. I'm a bit disappointed as the stock camera records slow motion but gcam don't ,but having an app that makes better quality pictures is more important. Shame xiaomi doesn't update their camera app so we could use theirs with Cam2API.

Yep, Xiaomi doesn't care about their AndroidOne devices, we learnt that the hard way. Meanwhile as I've mentioned the most stable gcam version out there is hass31's Mi A2 Lite optimised port. I'd suggest giving it a try, if you're willing to flash a custom Kernel on Stock. Because it checks all the boxes you've mentioned (including slo-mo), but it lacks Night Sight.
Not sure if anybody has tried this, sorry I don't have gcam enabled on my device so cannot test, but on my redmi note 4 that is almost the same hardware this one works really well
