Screen saturation not balanced - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi there ,
I've got a new redmi note 5 pro yesterday. Took a day to set it up and transfer all the data. My previous phone is redmi note 3 and I find it's display way more balanced than the note 5 pro. Particularly the greens are very dull.
Is that just me ? Should I have to run to the service center?
Thanks in advance

Same here.... I thought I was the one having this problem.
Whatsapp chats look very bland. Overall it ain't nice.

Ya whatsapp green is not dark

Not only whatsapp green or facebook blue every color is bland. Will post a pic of redmi note 3 and note 5 pro side by side. It's pathetic.

I have a RN 3 Pro, RN 4x and a relatively new RN 4 (SD 625).
The Screen of the RN 4 is much worse than the first two devices. Xiaomis new Displays aren't as good nowadays on their budget midrangers.
If you compare recent youtube comparisons, you will see, that the new RN 5 Pro screen seems be even worse, but a Software update could probably fix this.
Check this video out and look for the color reproduction, especially the green colors.

I checked in the display settings and saw something as "Contrast And Colors"
All the settings provided doesn't do much difference. Assuming either display unit is flawed or some adjustment has to be done in the software

I don't think it's flawed. It might be a more softwarish issue than hardware. Hope Xiomi corrects it with a update ASAP.
Meanwhile must search for a workaround.

Ya the same problem exists with me .....

Yep. Let's wait and see

Use standard setting it better

Same issue for me too. Green is not solid green. Blue is not solid blue. Looks so dull.

I personally experienced it too when i played games and watching videos, color saturation seems washed out in some games like in PUBG the grass and trees looks dull and sometimes i cant see my friend, i can only see the name running around.

Has there been any update on this? I got the phone yesterday and like you all noticed how desaturated the screen appears compared to my old Elephone P9000. Is this a white balance issue or what? Clash of Clans seems like it's got a opacity filter over it.

honestly I got my device yesterday and I thought the same. but after using it all the time .. I just don't see it any more, it looks fine to me now. I don't have my redmi note 3 anymore for a comparison. I still hope there will be custom kernels soon with color calibration like on radon.

Same problem noticed here - had old Redmi Note 3 side by side with the 5 - white is so much whiter on the Note 3!! Looks like a step backwards.

It's not the display it is the software. I had redmi 4prime when i shifted to Note 5 Ai, both Indian and International version believed
to have same display, i immediately noticed faded green and yellow colors. Not only the colors, but also at 40pc redmi 4 prime was way brighter than Note 5 AI at 70 pc brightness. I was so disappointed then I decided to try LOS 15 and immediately it fixes the whole problem. Not only it was brighter, just like redmi 4 prime, but also it fixes its colour contrast. However, later I rolled back to Miui 9 since Los wasn't stable enough and it had many bugs. Now I am counting on Miui 10 hope it would fix the bugs.

I am also a bit disappointed with the colour reproduction. First I thought it is pleasant to the eye, but after some time now I feel it's a little dull.

Huge color problem in Redmi note 5 pro. But if I switch to second space then Colors are amazing but If I switch to first space then Colors become to bland.
Guys any solution for this?
Please help

What ?????

Ok..... I hope some if not all of you can start to post homescreen pics right here.... let's see what you are talking about...
I going to post a few... and you tell me if you think these are really dull... IMO... They look fine to my eye considering this is not a SuperAmoled screen..
I can't wait to see what your devices are producing.. I would not want my colors any more saturated than this.

That's a reproduction of the signal not a reproduction of the actual screen.

Isn't the M3 8 inches, the M2 is 10..?
EDIT - Ignore me, the M2 comes in 8 and 10 inch versions... duuhh... I don't usually bother looking at 8" and under, useless to me...

Wow, so you'll work on cm / LineageOS for this device now? Epic if you do, there's sources released for this device too
I've had this tab for a week now, and so far I've been really pleased, the battery life is great because Huawei has a built-in battery saver mod that closes almost all apps and processes when the screen is off, the standby drain is almost nonexistent. I upgraded from an iPad Mini 2, and I'm really loving the bigger screen, I don't play any graphically intensive games, so the performance is more than enough for me too. The screen is also very good for an LCD panel, the colors are vibrant and blacks are black
Only 2 cons I've found so far is that the display is a bit warm-toned, this doesn't bother me because you can adjust the color temperature from the settings under display (I think the adjusting feature is there for the exact reason). The other con is that the build quality on the displays part is not the best, if I'm holding the tablet up, the display can be a little bit detached from the body and make a small sound when pressed on to, meaning the attachment is not perfect at certain points
But otherwise the build quality is great, and the price to value ratio is one of the best ever in my opinion, would recommend this to anyone who uses a tablet for media usage and light gaming :good:
But the
I,ve had mine for 6 months, excellent if a little-limited power wise (CPU/mem) Screen on time for browsing is for me 8+ hours & easily 6 for 720p video streamed over wifi & a little longer if stored on the tab. Screen is bright/clear and very good. Sound is awesome for a 10" tab. I got this to use alongside my old Nexus 10.
You're better off buying the Mediapad X2 as it has a much smaller footprint.
HUAWEI MediaPad M2 8.0 device just crap, I hope no one will ever buy that kind of crap. Nothing works, does not updates.
I went for a tab s2 , every thing is going good except it's speaker quality , I'm still getting used to it's 4:3 aspect ratio but I still prefer my old note 8 16:9 aspect ratio

Anyone coming from the oneplus 7pro? What are your thoughts missing anything?

Just checking anyone coming from oneplus 7 pro. Are you missing anything and what are your thoughts with regards to the performance of the phone and in hand feel?
There are a couple of things that I notice/miss from my OP 7 Pro, screen smoothness I definitely notice, the other is I occasionally get a stutter (I am using lawnchair v2 beta so this could be the reason). With that aside I have not even turned on my OP since I received my Note 10+.

? So why have you not turned on the oneplus ?
I had a OnePlus 7 Pro and a S10+, the OnePlus sat on my desk most of this time I owned it, sold it last week. While the OnePlus was smooth the in-hand feel absolutely killed the phone for me. I have large hands and that phone always felt like it was about to fall.
It's just not as nice in the hand as the S10+ or the Note 10+ even through the Note 10+ has a bigger screen.
This is coming from somebody who's owned almost every OnePlus phone made and the last Samsung I own was the Note 4.
Other than the 90hz display and the ever-so-slightly higher overall performance, I have only tinkered with the OP7Pro to try out the open Android Q beta.
While I don't think the Note10+ 5G is leaps and bounds beyond the OP7Pro, I prefer the slightly wider screen, additional Knox features, always on display, fast(ish) wireless charging, Dex over USB in Windows 10 and of course the 5G radio when I'm in Atlanta to play with stupidly fast speed tests lol.
Am missing mostly root and the ability to use themes for all apps like Gmail etc. It's a right pain looking at that white screen and there aren't any options to them all apps without root I assume?

Yeah, when I bought my S10+, Snapdragon version, I was a little weary about buying a non rootable phone but with all the customization you can do on them nowadays there's really no reason to root anymore.
Hmmm... Can't decide between Hex and Synergy. Anyone recommend one over the other for theming?
I miss the 90hz screen refresh rate and phone size was perfect for me on the oneplus 7 pro. After a few days i got use to the note 10 again but i had the exynos/snapdragon variant. I recommend getting the snap version its faster then the exynos but of course you dont have the root options

I recommend Hex. Couldn't never get Synergy to work properly.
Only thing I miss is the screen smoothness. I have exynos version of note10+ 5g. Sucks to be in Europe. But unlike s10 exynos this updated one feels a lot faster. Oneplus still very slightly faster at opening apps but not as significantly as it was when compared to S10.
In overall I do enjoy note I just wish it had slightly rounded corners.

Have tried synergy but having some issues and not sure if these are related to the app or our note 10. For the life of me I can't seem to theme both the status bar and apps. I can only either theme the status bar notifications shade and not the apps or the apps and not the status bar, no matter what I do! Any suggestions as this is what I want to theme
I miss the completely full screen experience of the 7 Pro (i.e. no camera cut out meaning I could stretch videos as much as I wanted).
I slightly miss 90Hz refresh, although I still maintain this is a bit of a gimmick feature until frame rates make it more worthwhile.
I don't miss the weight of the 7 Pro.
I don't miss the complete lack of firmware updates for the 5G "flagship" variant
I don't miss a camera that couldn't focus properly
I don't miss having to plug my phone into a cable every night because OnePlus "don't believe" in wireless charging
I don't miss being scared anytime the phone was near water (a sink etc.) because OnePlus think IP ratings are "unnecessary"
I don't miss phantom screen touches and random OS crashes making me reboot the phone almost daily

Pixel 2 XL or Samsung S8+? Help me decide.

Hello guys hope you are doing well. Guys I need your help. I'm looking for phone, just for my secondary to be honest. But I'm in a difficult situation to decide between pixel 2 xl or s8+. Both are in the same price range in used markets in my country. But pixel has been my dream phone since it was released. My main consideration is the camera and display. Of course, the pixel camera is the winner, but how about the display?
How it compares to Samsung oled? Any major issues with pixel 2 display? I read that it has something called blueish color, is that true?
Is there any other problem that maybe I need to pay attention to?
Thanks...
The display seems to have two issues. The first and best known is blue shift, where turning the display at extreme angles to sight causes the screen color to take on a distinct blue hue. This particular concern, despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about it, is I feel overblown; all OLED screens have blue shift to a degree. The second concern is black crush, where dark gray elements of a picture are rendered as black. I personally haven't noticed this particular issue, but I'm sure it's there. I'm also sure I'm not going to worry about it.
If the screen is more important to you than the camera, get the S8 as it has the superior screen. Otherwise get the P2XL.
Everything above said is correct! However i have never looked at my display from an angle so the blue tint issue is not there for me.
Black crush and smearing is the only thing i feel an issue but thats only at very low brightness.
If you ask me go for 2xl as it is fast, fluid, has a great camera and guaranteed Android 11 update. You will love the pixel experience.

I just passed the 2-year mark and no burn in issues. However, I baby my devices, and burn in is a bit setting dependent. Set brightness to 100% and burn in will develop over the space of a year, as it did on my Nexus 6 when my roommate used it. I had to use an AMOLED screen fix utility to lessen the intensity of the burn in, but even today the navigation buttons of the N6 are noticeable as dark spots on a white background.
TL;DR: After two years, no issues, but burn in is something to keep an eye on.

Having owned both I can easily say this is the better phone. If consistent performance is a deal breaker for you, this phone will make you much happier. The camera also blows the s8 out of the water. The display on mine is actually really good. It's kind of a lotto unfortunately. The earlier manufactured ones were much worse however so if you can check that at well might be beneficial for you.
I've owned S7 edge for one year and then I jumped to Pixel 2 XL, which I have been using for 2 years. After updating it to Android 10 it feels like I have a new phone in my hands, plenty of new things combined with cstark's camera mod we get Astrophotography mode, which is superb.
Screen has never been a major issue for me, anyway choosing saturated colors on pixel settings is mandatory for me.
With pixel 2 xl, you get a far better camera and dazzling fast smartphone. This is definitely the choice for me.

Mine is an early October 2017, 1st release 2 XLs and like others have said, I've taken care of it and it has served me extremely well... Well enough in fact that I skipped the 3 XL and the 4 XL and will wait for the 5 XL (or whatever is next in the Pixel lineup).
My battery is still great, speakers still loud and crisp, buttons still snappy, and if I wasn't missing the new development that comes with a new device, I'd probably run the 2 XL until it died.
You. Won't. Be. Disappointed.
Be sure to give us a full report in this thread, of your decision and experience with whichever device you choose!

120Hz QHD Update?

I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of any further updates on when Samsung will finally enable 120Hz on QHD. If we can use this thread to post updates? Do you think they're gonna wait until after the Note 20 phones are announced/released? It would suck to have to wait that long. FHD+ is fine but we know it would be great to have these displays blasting all the way.

It will arrive when 25w charging will be enabled on S10 series phones as promised by Samsung last March.
Its a marketing gimmick.
Forget about it! It's not going to happen. If you want 120Hz on QHD you need a S21.
Every other Smartphone that support 120Hz or even 144Hz get released with that option.
WTF Samsung. You are the Panel maker and supplier to all of those company's and they manage to bring those feature at day one.
I'm telling y'all it's because of the Exynos 990. They can't enable it on SD variants and leave the Exynos users behind that would reveal and confirm that the Exynos is crap, and would result in complaints which Samsung is trying to avoid.
its not gonna happen mate - sorry !!!
that was just rumours spread around to make people buy the phone thinking they can get it later
but as you can see they have issues with [email protected] so no way they're going to release it for QHD
It's probably not going to happen perhaps due to battery concerns. Could possibly be ready Note 20 series.
Nevertheless it's a top phone when I consider overall phone factor.
I've reviewed oneplus 8 Pro oppo find x2 and initially I did notice the difference qhd and 120hz refresh rate however several days later I've come back to my s20 ultra.
One thing I would have advised samsung to screw trying to perfect million camera lens wasting millions on testing tweaking but utilize resources to focus on getting the screen right. Hit it out of the park.
Having said that I'm back to my s20 ultra now for several reasons I'll do a comparison of all three thread maybe.

It's probably not going to happen perhaps due to battery concerns. Could possibly be ready Note 20 series.

There is a hardware limitation of 120hz display on s20. You can check anandtech website for the same. It will never get QHD 120. Wish they make it variable and use combination of 48,60,96,120 to improve battery. I am ok with 120hz FHD but I think due to this implementation we are unable to run many games on 120( till now) that runs fine on other devices.

There's issues with 120 on FHD? I haven't seen any on either the S20+ or this Ultra?

Hardware limitation? I thought the SD865 is rated to support up to 144hz?

Not with the processor but the way it it all implemented
It lacks MIPI interface.

OK everyone. We established it's not gonna happen. Aaaaaand? Are we just gonna accept this fact? Let it slide? Shouldn't Samsung get **** for this?

I think the **** they should really receive first is the fact that the screen is green when 120hz is enabled... LOL
I've disabled 120hz since it's so noticeable, even with the latest updates. For now, I'd rather have 1440p than 120hz.

Which S20? I don't see it on my Ultra even at low light
From photos I've seen it looks like some have defective panels it was so noticeable

Think they're referring to the Exynos version. I'm in the US, SD so no green issues with mine. I've spent a few minutes trying to replicate it but couldn't see any issues. @Nightwind Hawk did you mean to say you disabled 120 because it's NOT so noticeable or that it is? If it is noticeable, why disable it?
Not to suggest that I don't believe that one source about this being a true hardware limitation on these phones but I'd prefer a more authoritative corroborating source to confirm this. In any case, it sucks that we don't have QHD with 120 but at the end of the day it doesn't kill the phone for me.
OP8 Pro has QHD @120 but screw using a phone again with that much of a damn curve on its display. I can't stand the curve on OP phones. If OP made the display on that 8 Pro FLAT, whoa...

I haven't noticed any green tint issues even with 120Hz at the moment I'm running mine in 96Hz so don't really notice any must be luck of the draw.
Guys this thread is about 120Hz @ QHD and not that green tint issue! There is a seperate thread about that issue... please discuss that issue over there.
Although who cares about this thread? Samsung isn't going to read this thread and decide to release a update.
Yeah can't work plainly due to exynos processors being unable to keep up with it.
not happening people
https://www.sammobile.com/news/why-galaxy-s20-will-probably-never-get-120hz-qhd-resolution/
Its interesting the Asus ROG 2 suffered from a red tint @ 120hz... Now the S20 suffers green tint @ 120hz..

note 10 plus snappdragon issues over exynose version

hey there
its been a while since ive posted in here
so lets cut to the chaise
Ive bought a snappdragon version of note 10 plus because i wasnt going to tolerate the heat and battery drain issues but now i noticed that the camera performance of this version is really (i mean reallllyyyy) a step backward from my last s10 plus which was also running ion exynose cpu
so anyone of youu guys have the same problem? let me say thatt my problem is mostly about color renderition which is very cold and muted compare to the exynose version
i will be glad if anyone have a solution for this problem or if anyone else experienced same problem

Iknowthesnap and exynos do manage photos differently unfortunately that is not a software issue but how the CPU processes the images themselves (Sensor being the same betweeen versions)
That said the resolution is specifying saturation and other in pro mode and even then sharpness and treatment will differ.
Sorry mate, that is a processor issue, same happened on the S6 Series an still happens between note 20 US / EU Version.
Personally i prefer the US version and the snapdragon imaging treatment but the difference is real and there is no workaround.
All smart phones are lousy camera platforms; too light, poor handholds and control interfaces.
That said you need to know a camera's limitations and learn to see through its eye.
There is no perfect camera; all have weakness and strengths.
Lol, my ancient Canon 20D is a better cam than my 10+ in many situations. Mostly because it is a camera body made just for that.
If you haven't noticed, the zone metering on the 10+ cam is excellent...

I think he mostly talks about the wam and saturation tones. This happened on the galaxy S6 when updating to marshmelow.
In the previous software the camera would saturate images and with warmer tones. After the update the saturation dropped and the tones got colder.
In the same range as for sharpness and saturation Exynos and Snapdragon are super different. The exynos has less sharpness on the images than the Snapdragon and color tones merge better I think there's some smoothing on them.
They kind of look dirty on the Snapdragon, sharpness is way higher but tones are warmer.
Tradeoffs

Pro is a pain
Try turning off HDR (rich tone).
I have no issue on my Snapdragon 10+ like is described by the OP. The colors are very close to being spot on.
Could be a software, firmware or hardware issue.
