A desparate Redmi 5 Plus User - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Guides, News, & Discu

Just bought the Redmi 5 plus and is very eager to share with you guys my experience in using this phone.
Having used the stock global rom for about 1 week now, the performance and battery life are ok (thanks to SD625 chip but definitely not Xiaomi), in contrast ram management is utterly horrible (which can be alleviated by turning off ram optimization in under developer options).
One thing that really struck me by surprise is that the latest so called stable rom is still very un-polished, built-in calculator cannot be rotated, Mi player causes the video to stutter, the weather app does not have widgets, changes made to apps that autostart did not save after reboot...... All these poor experience causes you to want migrate to custom roms. But guess what!! Not only the kernel source has not been released, you can't even unlock your phone if you are on global roms (the notorious 86006 error, and thus far there still isn't any legitimate way to unlock devices on global rom.)
Still struggling to get the phone unlocked............

Hello
painfull but easy to do:

link your account

wait 15 days

same model and so same struggle...... But I finally made some progress, the key to binding the account seems to be installing global developer version, now my account binds with my phone. For now waiting for 360 hours before being able to unlock the device.... It is so obscure to have such a long waiting time.... Will report later on the progress of unlocking.

You sure bro you're device binded with MEG7 Model? Tell me if yes, I will be glad if that's true and definitely I will try. Just tell me the exact step + screenshoot your device model. cz I already tried installing Dev global with test point method and binding it but no result, still 86006.

Yes, I am sure that is MEG7 model, cannot upload screenshot now as I am redownloading all the apps from playstore..... Flashing a developer rom will result in formatting of internal storage so remember to backup all the important stuff before doing that....

And that's exactly his phone and problem

Did you use a Chinese VPN when binding? I'm on MEG7 and did it yesterday.
I installed global dev ROM by downloading from MIUI, putting on device internal storage and selecting from Updater app.
1) Log into Mi account on phone with existing account that has developer rights (or apply for this)
2) Install any VPN that has Shanghai or somewhere in China and activate (I used Flit VPN)
3) Enable dev and in there OEM Unlock and USB debug.
4) Bind account
I couldn't do this before I switched to MIUI Global Dev 8.3.29
Still have to wait for 15 days but hope this helps.

Exactly as in the video except if you aren't in China have a China VPN running when you hit the unlock request and get the 86006 error.
Also you can use any account that you previously had unlock permission granted on. No need to make another.

Try setting memory optimization to Middle or High. It gives you more zram, and that lets you have more apps in memory. Turn off miui killing apps aswel

Just a quick question; after waiting 24 hours do we need to associate again the account or just reboot into fastboot mode and use again the unlock tool?

Once u bind the account, u don't have to associate again, it should remain associated as long as u don't logout. And just wait for 2 weeks and u should be able to unlock it.

For me it worked like a charm with pre installed stock global version of MIUI. Phone received yesterday, followed the instructions (had a mi-account with unlock permission already from my Redmi 3s), phone was immediately unlocked. Flashed RWRP & Dot 2.2 and I simply love it.

Global Version Root/TWRP

I recently purchased a Redmi Note 5 , Global Version, I recently unlocked the bootloader, but wasn't for sure what guide method to use to flash twrp and root... I tried the one click root I found here on the forums, but it doesn't detect my device, even with usb debugging etc... So was thinking maybe b/c it was global and not china? Any help appreciated, thanks.
Install it normally via fastboot. For root, flash magisk. No need to complicate things with tools.

There's another guide where you sign in with second miui account on phone than sign in with second account on mi flash tool. But I can't create 2nd xiaomi account cause i only have 1 phone number. Xiaomi uses phone number to create account

10 steps to unlock your phone if you have trouble doing it. (Unlock Bootloader)

Hey guys, i had trouble unlocking my phone following different guides and now that i've done it, i thought i would share the steps i did so it may help other users.
Let's do this:
1. First turn off any VPN both on your pc and phone.
2. Download the mi unlock tool.
3. On your phone disconnect your main mi account. (we will create a new mi account that we gonna only use for the unlocking process)
4. On Pc create a new mi account with email only. (you won't use any phone number in the whole process.)
5. On Pc go to your email box and click on the link to activate your mi account.
6. On your phone add your new mi account account (it will ask you phone number just choose "other ways to sign in" and put your new mi account "email and pass")
7. On your phone go to Additional settings > developper options. and check the OEM unlocking.
8. On Pc go to i.mi.com they will ask you to upgrade your account. don't do it. instead click on the find device purple bouton. (it doesn't matter if it locate your phone or not).
9. On your pc let that window open and minimize it. Open Mi unlock tool.
10. Turn off your phone and boot on fast boot "volume down + turn on" connect your phone to your pc and press "Unlock".
Your phone should get unlocked instantly when reaching 100%. Press reboot phone.
PS: If you still having trouble you can create as many mi accounts as you want and try the different steps again.
Hi
Not working, created new account, added it to my new Redmi Note 5 for unlock, all step done, but had the 360 hours to wait message at the end.
Unlock process gets to 99% and then "Current account is not bound to this device" message. If I do that I have to enter my phone number.
Does it matter if I have a SIM inserted?
Ok, after chasing the magic unicorn and 8 accounts later I can say that I have my doubts that it is possible with any of these methods.
You really have to wait 15 days to unlock. This really lowers the value of this phone a lot.
PS.: You need the (official) Dev ROM (global/chinese doesn't matter I guess) so that you can maybe unlock it in 15 days. Otherwise you get the "Current account is not bound to this device" no matter what you do.

Other than that my friend got a new vince phone and unlocked it with those steps after 3 attempts with 3 different accounts. The third account made him meet the magic unicorn.

I already use the dev ROM otherwise I wouldn't even be able to bind the account.
I guess the problem is that you need an old account for this method.

To get to the 360h wait you need to bind your account. If you get the 86006 error you probably need to use one of the dev ROMs (Global or Chinese).

I used the old version miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10 (link https://www.xiaomigeek.com/download-mi-flash-unlock-tool.html) instead of the latest 3.3.525.23.

Note 5 pro (Indian) - multiple errors - need help

Hi all,
I am having very peculiar issues for which I need your help. I want to unlock boot loader of my phone. When i bought the device i was on 9.2.7 and updated to 9.5.6.0 (OEIMIFA).
The issues I am facing are :-
1) 86006 error for binding.
2) Tried to sync my phone with mi cloud and find device (as an alternate solution) but the website is not able to find my device. I have given all the permissions to all the mi apps but even then the my phone is not "connected" - it just shows "just a sec" on the website. Surprisingly sync works and has backed up my contacts and sms.
After going through all the mi forum and the xda forums, i think its update which has screwed up with the mi cloud or I have missed something in between.
Please let me know if something can be done as I am fed up with the camera focus issues in 9.5.6.0.
I have searched all threads and forums and no one had similar issues, even then if there exists other thread then mods please merge it with that one.
Thanks,
VK

Bro, just try unlocking your bootloader directly though mi unlock tool without binding account or anything, it will get unlocked as happened for various users.
Also dont forget to enable oem unlocking and usb debugging settings in developers section.

Question Unlock Bootloader - "Request parameter error"

Tried to unlock bootloader using developer option "Mi unlock status". Whenever I press the "Add account and device" always give me this error!
"Request parameter error"
Does it happen also to you? any ideas to solve this problem?
me too same error.
there are many users that happens this..
it seems only on global rom.
maybe we can flash chinese rom then unlock boot and the reflash global rom but the problem is that there isnt global packet rom at this moment
I have seen this happen to multiple people.
It seems to be an issue of the Global ROM
The best we can do is for everyone to report it to Xiaomi and wait for a ROM update I guess..
